5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Cook book for everyone
I use this book daily for recipe ideas. All the recipes I have tried have been excellent. The different flavors and variety and information is perfect for anyone. You don't have to have cancer or be a cancer survivor or care taker. The recipes are wonderful. The Magic Mineral Broth recipe is just the best. I use it often as the base to making rice instead of plain water. Everyone who have tasted my rice have just loved it. The broth can be frozen and I at times drink it straight instead of teas. It is full of vitamins and minerals that the body needs. Try it for yourself!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone loves this food
I love the soups and the other food I have eaten from recipies from this book. I am just a friend and have eaten dinners with those who needed to eat the food prepared these special ways. I don't have these issues myself. I would choose these yummy selections over and over. They are as good, or really, far better than regular recipies. This is top notch eating regardless of the reason they were invented.

5-0 out of 5 stars Caregiver's Hidden Secret
This an excellent book.I bought it for my mother-in-law who has pancreatic cancer.I am a nutritionist and she looked to me for some assistance. My main concern is to just keep her appetite so she keeps eating.I happened upon this book at a book festival and was pleasantly surprised. The recipes were nutritious, not complicated and had aroused all of the senses--she loves the smells and the tastes of everything we make. While she was researching specialized diet books that gave her a list of foods that she should eat, this book brought it all together. It bridged that gap.It also has some wonderful stories inside. It should be given to all cancer patients but then again, I find myself making these recipes for my own family--We love it just as much as she does!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The best for machine bread!
I love this book! I needed a bread book. When I decided to omit wheat and gluten, I ordered several cookbooks. My main problem was baking a loaf of bread. I got the packaged mixes, but the taste was all wrong. I tried several recipes on line, but they were written for hand kneading and I have a bread machine lifestyle.
5-0 out of 5 stars Its title says it all - "The Best"
I can't believe no one has written a review for this excellent cookbook yet.I just finished making the Banana-Pineapple Muffin recipe this morning and couldn't wait to taste them hot out of the oven.I have made several recipes from the authors' previous cookbook ("125 Best Gluten-Free Recipes"), so I know how good the recipes can be. But I was still surprised at how "normal" the muffins looked and tasted. The texture looks like they could have been made with regular flour instead brown rice flour, sorghum, and flaxmeal!I've been baking gluten-free breads and muffins for a year since being diagnosed with Celiac Disease and I have had the most success when using the Washburn & Butt cookbooks. I especially like their bread machine recipes--always tastey. My favorite so far is "Henk's Flax Bread" which tasted like whole wheat bread. I can't recommend this book enough for beginners. And besides the bread recipes, there are loads of recipes for all kinds of meals you can make for the entire family. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eat To Beat Prostate Cancer
David Ricketts is back again, and better than ever!In his newest cookbook,
5-0 out of 5 stars This is the one
Eat to Beat Prostate Cancer is an excellent resource for many folks. It is NOT just for those dealing with prostate cancer. It is chock full of interesting and tasty recipes which include a variety of soy products. There is a full complement of recipes ranging from appetizers to desserts.Any woman who wants to include soy in her diet to deal with menopausal symptoms, any person who wants to decrease the amount of animal protein in his/her diet or any parent who wants to include high quality soy protein in the family meal plan should invest in this resource. It is much more than just a cookbook.I have purchased many soy based cookbooks over the years looking for something like "Eat to Beat..."This is the ONE!Thanks,David Ricketts.

When it comes to eating, I'm about as carnivorous as a T-Rex.However, after hearing about diet being linked to (prostate) cancer and all, I decided to add a healthy component to my diet.Prior to getting this book, I considered holding a pack of tofu or soy milk as severely compromising my masculinity. And I still do. Nonetheless, the benefits that have come from my change in diet are well worth it!I've shed a few pounds and feel great.Ninety-nine percent of the recipes I've tried are easy and delicious.Speaking of easy and delicious, I've impressed a couple of my dates with these recipes.Although I still eat like a T-Rex, from time to time, I feel confident that (prostate) cancer won't make me extinct.Cheers! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
I was very pleased with this book.Helpful information and lots of recipes.I would purchase this book again for someone else facing the LOW SALT issues.

5-0 out of 5 stars Met my expectations for a low fat cookbook.
Met my expectations for a low far cookbook.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not What I Was Hoping For
This cookbook contains a decent variety of recipes, but seems more geared towards low fat cooking than low sodium cooking. If you're casually trying to reduce sodium a bit this may be fine, but if you're on a very strict diet many of the recipes probably won't be acceptable.I found many of the recipes a bit unimaginative and lacking excitement, being perhaps geared towards people who find mild picante sauce too spicy. And the book itself sounds like it was written by a government lawyer trying to avoid litigation with frequent use of awkward terms such as "acceptable vegetable oil" in recipes. There are better choices out there. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Splendid!
This book really surprised me. So far ALL the recipes I have tried I have found amazing and as the carb count is included in each one it is really easy to organize your menus! Everyone should have one of these! The only thing I would change is I would include pictures, although this would probably make the book more expensive...

2-0 out of 5 stars Don'teven try!!!
Tried several recipes from this book...they were quite basic but turned out ok.

1-0 out of 5 stars all recipe no substance
I ususally enjoy Christina's books, however this book was very disappointing. It lacks her usual commonsense approach to health and food and instead focuses one chapter on ancient chinese knowledge of the 5 elements applies this to food and modern day malady, and that is it.The rest of the book is recipes, which I have noticed she tends to reuse in her other books. This is the worst book out of her series, I reccomend skipping this one altogether and going for GLOW and cooking the whole foods way

5-0 out of 5 stars An improvement over her last book
For four reasons:1. No fish- thank you!Since she does, to some extent, market herself as a vegetarian, it doesn't make sense when she includes fish in her books- especially when she doesn't eat it herself.2.She gives a very detailed explanation about the elements in the macrobiotic philosophy and what foods have which elements. It's complicated to plan your meals around those guidelines, but sometimes it's worth it.3. She offers a section at the end on home remedies, some of which were previewed on her show and some of which I saw for the first time here. Her weight-loss drink really DOES work, as does her kidney drink.4.I thought the recipes in this book were better.I think she made an effort to make this book more accessible to the general public (a delicious recipe for pecan-pumpkin squares come to mind) and it really shows.5-0 out of 5 stars Eat Healthy and Love It!
Since I discovered this cookbook, I've enjoyed cooking and eating like never before!I chose to go on a macrobiotic diet because of some minor health problems, and Christina Pirello's two cookbooks have made the transition virtually painless. This is saying alot because I previously ate meat, dairy, and sugar on a daily basis.I can honestly say that with these cookbooks I haven't missed them! I've also entertained using this cookbook and gotten rave reviews from friends who are great cooks but enjoy using a lot of unhealthy ingredients. To quote one of my guests, "If this is macrobiotic, then sign me up!"Try the Black Bean - Squash Soup, the Creamy Mushroom Soup, and the Mediterranean Vegetable Paella, to name a few.My husband also loves this food.I feel like we're eating the healthiest diet on the planet and loving every minute of it.Thank you Mrs. Pirello! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
We love this book!We have made many of the recipes that have all tasted great and are healthy. We also gave it to everyone for Christmas and they all love the recipes too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple and practical
This book offers a simple way to start eating healthy. I've been interested in gourmet food and cooking for years and then became a student of Ayurveda. Though the concepts of Ayurvedic eating are introduced in the beginning, and the recipes follow ayurvedic guidelines, the book isn't complicated with hard to understand terms. Best of all, the preparations are wonderful for a taste-discriminating Western palate.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best cookbook I've ever owned!
This cookbook is filled with healthy and delicious recipes. It is well-written, with easy to follow directions and ingredients that are readily available. I really like the 30-day meal plan that is included; it takes all the guess work out of menu planning. While I was not a vegetarian before I began using this cookbook, I am now! The food is so delicious and high enough in protein that I don't miss meat at all--although for you die-hard carnivores, there are many recipes that have meat-optional directions. This book has everything from breakfast foods through desserts and these recipes have gained approval from my toughest critics: my 10- and 14-year-old sons. Although not diet food, my husband and I have both lost weight since we began following the 30-day plan. The food is so nutritious and satisfying, that our junk food cravings have been greatly reduced. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for healthy and delicious recipes. Enjoy! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the the best
I agree, this is a must have for anyone following a low salt diet.Who says food has to be tasteless???I learned so many cooking ideas from this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Gem for Low Sodium Cooking
I bought a copy of this book about 25 years ago when a family member was put on a low sodium diet. It was a great beginner's guide to managing a low sodium diet, with lots of helpful tips. But even after I no longer needed to cook low sodium, I continued to use many of the recipes, just because they taste good.I finally gave my copy to a friend who was starting out on low sodium, and now I miss it. I think I'll have to get a new copy for myself, just for the recipes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Low Sodium - NOT Just Low Salt
"Low sodium" does not mean just "low salt"! We were amazed to find how much sodium is hidden in processed foods we never associated with salt. This book helped explain how a low sodium diet can alleviate water retention in the heart and lungs for my mother, who suffers from diabetes, congestive heart failure and cardiopulmonary disease. Not only were the recipes easy to prepare (really just modifying preparation of the foods she already likes to eat), but it also included ideas for substitutions and where to find them. It is so nice to see her able to move about without shortness of breath! But the immediate payoff is the quick weight loss as she sheds pounds of accumulated water from edema. I purchased the book as a gift and I think it's the best investment I ever made. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Low-fat with flavor
I reach for this cookbook over and over again, and I've yet to be disappointed by one of the recipes. The comments are helpful, the recipes easy to follow, and the results are always tasty. I read one reviewers' complaints about the pealla recipe, but I've made this dish several times for dinner parties, and I and my guests have always been pleased. The book offers a wonderful way to enjoy low-fat cooking without sacrificing flavor. It truly has become the bedrock of my low-fat cooking library.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good if you know what you're doing?
A comment on my earlier review: I was going to use the author's recipe for paella until I read it more carefully and then I found that most of it went against the grain so I didn't. I understand that recipes for paella abound and that hers may be to other people's taste but it wasn't to mine. In the name of fat reduction she suggests that if the reader cannot get Spanish chorizo, but only Mexican chorizo, the reader use "light smoked sausage" (p. 154) because Mexican chorizo is "swimming in fat" (p. 144). While it is true that chorizo is quite high in fat, there is only so much of it in any particular serving and it is absolutely indispensable. Paella would just not be paella without it! Furthermore, she uses 2 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves and 1/2 pound boneless pork loin chops for 8 servings, in addition to 1/2 pound large shrimp. 8 fresh clams, 8 fresh mussles (understand that this is 1/4 chicken breast half, 1 oz. of shrimp, 1 mussel and 1 clam per serving and 1 oz. pork chops), and artichoke hearts, etc. (p. 144-145), and she says to cut the chicken and the pork into CUBES! While this may be fine for some, I could not do it this way. I omitted the pork entirely, and used what I prefer: bone-inchicken thighs with skin (I would use 1 per serving)), and I left them whole. Also, I omitted the artichoke hearts which I didn't think would work well enough, and I used more saffron than she says is necessary and no matter what recipe you use, I suggest that you use saffron to taste. Also, I would not (although one could) cook the chorizo in the stockpot with the rice-I panfry it. If the way I make it increases the fat content to some extent over the way she does it (her recipe has 7 grams of Total Fat and 2 grams of Saturated Fat per serving-but at 5' 3 1/2 inches tall, I know fromthe website of Dr. C. Everett Koop that I can have 50 grams of fat per day, so I don't know what the fuss is about), I think that that is vastly preferable, especially since one does not have paella every day. I am wondering what to do about the other recipes in the book about which I know nothing...

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific cookbook with healthful recipes!
This cookbook is divided into sections each with recipes from soups to salads, entrees and desserts from a different international cuisine (French, German, Hispanic, Italian, Middle Eastern, etc.) complete with nutritional analysis for each recipe so that the reader can see just how many calories, protein, carbohydrates. cholesterol, sodium and total fat (broken down into saturated, polyunsaturated, and monounsatured) all expressed in grams or milligrams per serving, except calories, and use his calculator to compute the total number of calories and/or fat gramsper meal, if he needs to. There are mouthwatering color photographs of some of the recipes grouped together in two different partsthe book. Last recipeI tried was forthe Turkey Rolls with Prosciutto and Cheese (Italian). Because it is quite high in calories (408 per serving) I omitted some of the ingredients (flour, bread crumbs, egg substitute and bread crumbs). I liked it (although I didn't know what I was missing because I'd never had it/made it before) The author is good enough to say that it is traditonally made with chicken breasts so if you want to make it with them, you can do that too. Next on my list that looks beautiful-Chicken with Forty Colves of Garlic (French) and their Paella (Hispanic). Also Chicken Piccata (Italian),Aegean baked Fish (Greek) and Couscous with Lamb Stew (Middle Eastern). Highly recommended. Wouldn't want to be without it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars True to title
The title is absolutely true. But it's fairly easy to simply leave out the eggs and add a little dairy. That's all she's done.To nearly every recipe.Page after page after page.If you haven't baked much, and if you have no dairy intolerence/allergy, the book could be helpful. If you're a long-time baker who's looking for some insight on how to continue baking with a restricted diet, don't waste your money on this book.Pick up you're old Betty Crocker or Joy of Cooking, look at the recipe, take out the eggs, add some dairy as binding, and voila, you've got this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book with kid friendly recipes.
This book makes baking without eggs easy. When my son was first diagnosed with an egg allergy cooking seemed very intimidating.I didn't know where to begin. This book has recipes for foods that any child will eat.My daughter who has no food allergies is a very picky eater and even she will eat everything that I make from this book. This is the only cookbook that I have found that eliminates just the eggs.I have tried many of the allergen-free cookbooks (those that eliminate dairy, wheat, nuts, gluten, eggs, etc.).My kids don't tend to like the things I make from those cookbooks. If its just eggs that you need to eliminate then Bakin' Without Eggs is the best cookbook to have.I only wish Rosemarie Emro would publish a second book.

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing book
We've been using this book for about 5 years now.My daughter is allergic to eggs, milk and nuts. All of the recipes I've tried are great, but in particular, there is a wonderful recipe for "loaded chocolate chip cookies" that is better than anything I've made with eggs and butter. Now my daughter has something she can share with her friend that doesn't "taste funny". ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Odd first food meal ideas
This book may have been ideal for British parents, but it just doesn't seem to work as well here. Some of the menu ideas are really odd, like mackerel and vegetable mash, chicken with leeks, lemony fish, and moroccan lamb with couscous. Not exactly standard dinner ideas for the 9 to 12 month olds I know.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great ideas but require a once over before use
This book has many really good, original recipes. A number of them our 18 month old really liked. However, don't bank on any one recipe and always have a back up plan like Gerber meals. Some of the recipes were too tough for our baby, and some of them she simply did not care for. This comes from the individuality of course - some babies may have more teeth than ours, some less, and some may like some things our doesn't. Bottom line is don't expect your child to like everything here.

2-0 out of 5 stars Recipes mediocre, more work than they are worth
I liked the idea. I was drawn to it because of the title and thought it would give me good ideas for healthful food for my little one. It didn't.
2-0 out of 5 stars Just
I was excited to find an organic cookbook for babies and toddlers, hoping to find some new inspiration and/or healthful recipes for my 3 kids (all under the age of 4).I did glean a few new healthy ideas from this cookbook, but was really surprised about some of the things suggested to feed a 4 to 7 month old baby. For example, I can't wait to try the hummus recipe for my 4 year old and 22 month old.The recipe isn't that original in any way, it's more that I hadn't thought about making hummus in awhile. But, one of the first recipes suggested to make in the 4 ot 7 month old category is a rice cereal with raspberries and strawberries. For a baby that young??Yet, off to the side there is a note saying something about needing to remove all seeds from fruits because babies at this age cannot process seeds comfortably since they are so young.I don't know many moms willing to pick the seeds off of strawberries. Most of the recipes for young babies contain multiple ingredients, including olive oil, oregano or other spices and I have always read/heard that you introduce one food at a time using the 4 day wait rule in case of allergies.Much of the same is found throughout this age category of recipes.
4-0 out of 5 stars Inventive food to feed your toddler.
I think every food book tells you something different on the subject of nutrition, and you can add this one to that list.I think it would be impossible for any author to keep current every piece of advice the 'experts' in America dish out.As a British author you can bet she didn't even consult them.Nor should she have.I find it interesting that many of the reviewers didn't even consider that fact in their reviews.

2-0 out of 5 stars cheesily monikered
& very fruit based. not for the serious health juicer, but i suppose it's alright. still haven't made anything from it though -- not enticing enough. hmmm...

3-0 out of 5 stars Needs Help[
I was looking for a Juicing BOOK With a lot more Info and
3-0 out of 5 stars BAD puns and plenty of them.
I have a feeling the book could have been 500 pages long if they'd come up with more bad puns. A lot of the combinations are obvious, although the book is attractive and the cover photo is beautiful and it's helpful for beginners. The recipes calling for a couple tablespoons of superfine (baker's) sugar are bizarre -- I definitely didn't buy a juicer to consume refined sugar!

5-0 out of 5 stars Works well if you follow the instructions
I bought the book for a family member with Fibro who was nearly an invalid. The improvement was immediate and dramatic. She follows the diet guidelines in the book faithfully and now has her life back.

1-0 out of 5 stars A DUD
I thought that this was going to be a cookbook with delicious and new recipes. It was a dud. There are no nutritional guidelnes, no ideas. It is not worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars I enjoy this cookbook...

5-0 out of 5 stars Eye Opener
This book was a real eye opener for me.I had no idea about some of the topics discussed in most of these chapters. No diet or lifestyle change works over night, and I think that this book helpsexplain that in the simplest way.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK, for what it is.
This is the same stuff one finds in the women's magazines at the checkouts or maybe this is where they may have got some of their articles. The "why do you eat" quiz was my favourite part of the book & helpful.I have lent this to other friends & they liked it as well.Evidentlty they don't buy women's magazine .All in all a so-so addition to my library.

2-0 out of 5 stars Maybe for someone with more control!
I didn't find this book very helpful at all, I think it would be more helpful for someone with more control over their eating. For someone who struggles with deeper issues with food however, not very helpful. The suggestions are good, but it's just not that simple for everyone, as much as I tried! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My new "cooking bible"!
I LOVE to cook and have always done a lot of Tex-Mex, Mediterranean, Indian, Asian, etc.Thing is, now I'm caring for my elderly parents and my dad was placed on a 2g sodium diet *gah!* so I needed to make a little adjustment.
3-0 out of 5 stars Keep it or return it? I'm sitting on the fence...
I looked through nearly every page last night and the book is back in the bag with the receipt ready to be returned.Although I don't think it's a "bad" book, it's just not what I expected. Not all of the recipes are truly "one dish" and it's got a heavy emphasis on fish. The recipies in general are not typical meals I would be overly enthused to make--or serve. We are not picky eaters but I can't imagine making some of these recipes and serving them without expecting a negative reaction from my husband. We might try at most a half dozen of the recipes but we're not likely to repeat them. So, I think it's best I return it.

4-0 out of 5 stars good book...worth a look
easy to find ingredients...some everyday recipes and some for enertaining...overall a good book...but I still prefer Moosewood and Enchanted Brocholi Forest! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Oh Soy!
I am amazed how people who obviously haven't even read the book are making negative comments.HELLO!Did you know that at LEAST 75% of the soybeans in THIS COUNTRY are genetically modified?!?!?!?!?And you think that is good for you.Wake up people. If you are interested in changing to a soy diet or are on a soy diet - you should read the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book MUST be something
Came here to buy the book after yesterday's reportage about dangers of soy in San Francisco Chronicle. Had no plans to write but given the sheer hate spewed by so many nasty vicious reviewers this book has to be really something!!!I'm a believer in the right to free speech but a lot of these 1 star reviews sound like slander. Joseph Mercola, Larry Dossey, Doris Rapp, Kilmer MacCully and other authors have read this book and would not have recommended it without good reason.

1-0 out of 5 stars This book is propaganda, don't buy it
The publisher of this book also publishes a book about the "fallacy" that saturated fat and cholesterol cause heart disease.Saturated fat and cholesterol have been demonstrated in study after study to cause heart disease. This publisher is nothing more than a shill for the meat and dairy industry. ... Read more
