5-0 out of 5 stars A 'must' for any serious culinary or home organic cook's collection.
Plenty of books on the market cover organic foods and health, but THE ORGANIC COOK'S BIBLE is a resource which goes beyond recipes to offer a survey of organic ingredients and how to choose, store and prepare them. Home cooks and chefs receive a guide which covers meats, dairy, herbs, spices and more, with an A-Z arrangement for quick and easy reference, and a survey of over a hundred organic foods, from flavor and nutrition benefits to storage, what to look for, and top varieties. A 'must' for any serious culinary or home organic cook's collection.
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!An absolute must have reference book
I borrowed this book on an impulse from our local library.I was pleasantly surprised at how thorough and easy to use this book is.It is an absolute must, whether you are into organic foods or not.It covers everything from fruits & vegetables, meats, dairy, grains, pasta and nuts.
5-0 out of 5 stars You need this book.
This book answers all of my questions about produce: the organic factor, (which tells you whether a certain product is sprayed heavily with toxins when you cannot purchase organic), nutrition details, seasonality, what to look for when buying, preparation, and uses.

3-0 out of 5 stars Eating for Acid Reflux
Good information on acid reflux. Many of the recipes had ingredients that people with acid reflux can't use....like tomato paste with (as tolerated) in the recipe.I found only six recipes for my family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
I love this book, it gives you everything you need to know about GERD, and the food in the cookbook is delicious!! I reccomend this book to all GERD suffers out there!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing recipe section
Excellent background information on the disease. One of the most complete descriptions and reasons why certain foods cause problems. However, I was very disappointed with the recipe section. I was expecting recipes for dishes that did not include foods that can cause heartburn. Instead, there were very common recipes, many containing several ingredients that GERD suffers should avoid, with instructions such as"if you have problems with onions, leave it out..."How helpful is that, really!? ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Creatively delicious recipes for anyone.
I found this book as a Low Carber looking for almond "flour" recipes. Even though the book wasn't designed for low carbers, I found the recipes cross over very well and those that don't will with just a few simple substitutions. I am so happy I ordered it. So far, I have made Classic burgers: with extra lean beef and we can't stop eating them, very moist and lots of flavor, The tacos: Clean and light, not laden with heavy spices and I love the topping of tomatoes and scallions. Cranberry muffins: for low carb... I just replace the honey with dark agave nectar and wow are they delicious...no one will ever miss the flour. I can't wait to try the souffle bread, the decadent onion biscuits, the gourmet pizza...etc.Jody and Jenny also shine with their creative use of vegetables as stand-ins for pasta and potatoes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Love this book!
This book has been wonderful for the SCD diet. The food is a treat. Each recipe that I have tried has been delicious (I've only had the book a week or two).Thank you to the authors! What a wonderful contribution.

5-0 out of 5 stars great cookbook
The great thing about a McDougall recipe is the spice blends. Mary McDougall really knows how to put spices together to make things delicious. I highly recommend this and other McDougall books.

5-0 out of 5 stars .. most often taken off the shelf ..
In an 8 month battle with the health effects of years on the standard Western diet, this book is now the first off my shelf of cookbooks.(McDougall Quick and Easy is second).
5-0 out of 5 stars this is one good program!!!
we happened across the mcdougall program through anthony robbins.we were total dairy and meat addicts and believed that it was really good to eat lots of it.however ,we did a 10 day challenge and cut it all out ,and have never looked back....blood pressure dropped, weight dropped, muscle tone and energy increased.we now have perfect skin and the whites of our eyes are now perfectly clean....so we are hooked...don't worry...he does say you can have a "feast food" on a special occassion, so you aren't going to have to never have your favorites..but you will discover an efficient well body that you never realised you had!. book is great... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the Cholesterol Lowering Books-- No Contest!!
This book is set up in an engaging, straight-forward manner and is easily utilized by those with both a lot of background and those with relatively little. It is comprehensive, has a respectful and upbeat tone and is filled with ideas which are very achieveable. The recipes are a bonus -- so far every item tried has been delicious.A real hit at our house.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beyond your average cookbook. Nice surprise!
I loved the way this book was put together. Along with tasty recipes it gives you the nutritional benefits of its ingredients so you get a reason why it's good for you. Not just a cook book but a great reference guide for every day healthy living.A must have in every kitchen. A+ read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Creative and Tasty Recipes
This book has quickly become one of our favorites.Recipes are clearly written and not overly complicated. The nutrition information given for each recipe makes it easy to incorporate into our Weight Watchers routine. Some folks may not be familiar with tomatillos, but you must try the delightful Tomatillo-Avocado sauce(p. 174), which is scrumptious with crab cakes and everything else! We have found that the seasonings are on the mild side - if you enjoy herbs and spices you may want to increase the recommendedamounts in the recipes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive system of cleansing which includes many delicious recpies
This being one of the more niche books of the raw/living foods genre, it was not until I had been at least two years into it had I bothered to pick it up.
5-0 out of 5 stars Thought provoker and verypractical
Having had oral surgery and not being able to eat solids,I came to this book looking for liquid diet suggestions. While the Salad section (and others) are of no use I found the soups and beverages recipes have a variety and originality that was most impressive and certainly perks a jaded appetite. Although the book is of limited use to me personally, what I have been able to obtain from it still makes the purchase well worthwhile. I recommend cancer patients using alternative therapies to aid their recovery, have a close look at this book. The LifeFood principle is a valid extension to alternative medicine. However it must be emphasised this is a recipe book, based on the Lifefood theory-(the theory of which is dealt with extensively in first few chapters)- it only refers to health benefits in a general way.)

5-0 out of 5 stars The proof is in the eating.
Tonight, I had the honor of dining at the home of a raw foods chef, who served a meal of such heavenly, incredible deliciousness, I had to ask where he found the inspiration to his dishes. He showed me this book, and as I glanced through it, I decided immediately that I MUST have it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Diabetic cooking

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Just Good For Diabetics!
I bought this cookbook recently to give to someone just diagnosed with diabetes and spent a good deal of time reading the recipes, myself. It is a good cookbook for anyone who is interested in eating healthy. I copied some of the recipes for my own use. I particularly liked some of the chicken recipes as well as the recipe for black bean soup. Each page of the book is divided into thirds so that you can mix and match different foods as you plan your meals. When you get past that initial barrier of figuring out what is going on with the book, you will like this cookbook tremendously. There is a wealth of information here to make us all healthier eaters. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amust for every busy sports family
I have owned this book for 1 year and it is well worn. The concepts are easy to understand and make sense. I have loaned this to our swim coaches and the mom of our local High school football star. The recipes are easy to prepare and most important...taste good. I really like the section on Team Dinners...lots of great suggestions. Buy two right away because people borrow this little book all the time.

5-0 out of 5 stars This one gets used
This gets more use in our house than any other cookbook .It's very basic and simple.Common sense stuff.I'm not known for my cooking, but this book is easy for me to use and put out quality meals that taste good and that middle school kids will eat.My daughter and her athlete friends are on board (sometimes) with the concept of eating well to improve performance, and they use these recipes themselves.I actually made the granola and it's awesome.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not what I had in mind.

I am not a diabetic.I got this book because of the "heart healthy" part of the title. The loaded baked potato soup is wonderful as is the broccoli soup. Those are the only 2 recipes I've tried so far, but they are well worth the price on their own, in my opinion.
5-0 out of 5 stars D & H HEALTHY COOK BOOK
ONE OF THE VERY BEST BY A VERY WELL KNOWN AUTHOR

1-0 out of 5 stars Sugar in almost EVERY recipe.
I was completely disappointed in this book and in fact, threw it in the garbage.I expected to find recipes to supplement my current bland diet, but upon examining this book, I found sugar to be in almost every recipe, including main courses, not to mention the deserts. This would be fine for someone who is simply trying to lose weight, but not for a diabetic.Especially one like me who is Type 2 and needs to strictly control their sugar consumption.I don't feel this author understands diabetic eating nor diabetes itself, as not controlling it properly can result in blindness and loss of limbs.I do not recommend this book for anyone who takes their diabetes seriously. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars No weird foods or ingredients!
Being new to the gluten-free diet I have been very disappointed in the majority of the GF cookbooks. The ingredients are often a challenge to find, are expensive, and frankly just taste gross or have a funky texture. The more ingredients that are different from what we "used to eat" the more disappointing the outcome.Of all the cookbooks I've tried so far (8 of the "mainstream" ones) this one has the most familiar ingredients and "normal" foods. My 5 year old has enjoyed everything I have made from this book so far and has been excited to eat something GF that actually tastes like what he used to eat.The recipes are simple, fast, affordable, and best of all we actually enjoy food again!THANK YOU CONNIE SARROS!

I received this book in Feb., but started with the first week of recipes. Most of the meals have been good, some have been excellent. They seem to be right in line with low glycemic diet guidelines.Several meals that claim to serve 4 didn't serve 3. I have skipped some meals, but have tried several new herbs and vegs.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book to enjoy, use, and learn from
Please don't race to the kitchen with this cookbook. First, sit down and enjoy reading Simply in Season. Within its pages you will find philosophy, an ingrained dependence on God, wonderful ideas, a challenging new way of considering food, and, of course, a lot of tasty, tempting recipes which will feed the body and spirit with nutritious food.
5-0 out of 5 stars Useful tool in the kitchen
I got this book in a box set with two other World Community Cookbooks. This is the one I use the most, and there are great recipes for every season-enough to inspire readers to adopt local grown, in-season cooking practices. Doing so is supposedly good for the planet, because if enough people do it it means less gas burned to transport produce across country or from overseas. This is a great recipe book for CSA subscribers or habitual farmer's market shoppers.

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful format more than makes up for a few bland recipes and dated nutritional advice
I own several cookbooks intended for "solo" cooks, and this is my favorite of the bunch, no contest. The recipe formats are simple and easy to follow, and most of them can be carried out by an inexperienced cook with minimal difficulty and fair-to-excellent results. Furthermore, most of the ingredients called for here are easily found at any full service grocery store; the results are often quite economical. Anyone on a tight budget would do well using this book for a mainstay. The design is a bit soft and feminine for my taste, but I recognize the nurturing vibe being expressed here, and it doesn't cloy or irritate me the way serious self righteous Mennonite cookbooks or hippie tomes like "Diet For A Small Planet" do. This is a great cookbook.
4-0 out of 5 stars wonderful
Great recipes. Every dish has the nutritional information. Plenty of fresh ingredients with imaginative combinations. I've made plenty of them and most of them are good. Truly a standout. Pictures of the entrees would be nice though. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Macro for the Undecided
During the 1960's, Michio and Aveline Kushi popularized macrobiotics in the States, and this practical, well-written book is a good introduction. I chose this as a present, after browsing through Amazon.com for a book that combined recipes and macrobiotic concepts. As I discovered later, the balance of easily prepared recipe and basic macrobiotic concepts reflects the balance that "macro" devotees achieve through their diet. The gift recipient, Buree-Kan Kobayashi (name used with permission) confirmed that Aveline Kushi's book I chose wisely.Although Buree doesn't strictly adhere to a macrobiotic diet (he's more of a California vegan/macro/fish/almonds guy), my friend commands a basic understanding of macrobiotic concepts and principles.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
As a newcomer to macrobiotics, I absolutely loved this book and have used it every day since I bought it.It outlines easy, quick basic recipes that anyone can make - most of which involve few basic ingredients.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book to get
For me , it was really a very good choice to get this book, and I recommend it to averyone who has to follow a special diet for diabetic, and also anyone who want to learn to eatbetter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great info and recipes made with real food
I was impressed with the extent of information about diabetes and cooking that preceeded all of the recipes. What a great resource this has turned out to be for me. I have enjoyed several of the recipes very much and was especially pleased to find that they include more nutritional analysis than other cookbooks I have (including saturated fat, sugars and fibre). Lots of recipes low in fat, sugar, salt and cholesterol and lots of real, whole food instead of processed foods and chemicals. I think this book was worth every cent and recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thumbs up from me and my mom
My mother loves it and I love it too. I first ordered this book as a gift for my mother who has type 2 diabetes. After enjoying the recipes that she made, I went ahead and picked up a copy for myself at the local store seeing as I can use a good dose of healthy eating. Of the main dishes we tried, I found the servings to be quite filling and the recipes were easy enough to make. I also found the sections about diabetes to be very helpful and easy to understand. Hopefully I'll be able to avoid getting diabetes like my mom by following the advice of cookbooks like this. Definitely gets a thumbs up from us. ... Read more
