5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
The book was in great condition, better than expected, it looked brand new. Fast shipping as well. Thanks

5-0 out of 5 stars I was surprised that this is such a good book
When I see Suzanne Somers I just see Chrissy from Three's Company and all that snorting and dumb blonde-ing!I never paid any attention to any of the Suzanne Somers books because I figured this was just another celebrity attaching their persona to something. My library happened to have this on the shelf and since I had some time to kill while waiting for my daughter to pick out her books I decided to flip through the recipe section since I knew it was a low carb type of diet and I do atkins.I was very interested at what I saw so I checked it out.I have been totally shocked at how easy and terrific her ideas are and in fact her philosophy is quite interesting too.I am really impressed.I have a totally different viewpoint now of Suzanne Somers.I love this recipe book so much I had to buy it so I"d have a copy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, great recipes!!
My husband & I just started the South Beach diet.Since Somersizing is a very similar concept (similar to Atkins too), I thought I'd check out these recipes. The book explains the concept of cutting out sugar & sugar forming carbohydrates (anything containing white flour). I looked into the other somersizing books & this one really has the best recipes. So far I've only tried a few & they were very delicious. The cream cheese pancakes & balsamic dijon chicken are yummy.I also bought Somersweet, some of the recipes call for it, but you can use Splenda or other sweeteners instead. All of the recipes in this book are appealing as well as healthy. And they are fast & easy to make. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Cooking for an Army?
I am not a vegetarian but I would like to become one.I bought this book because it offered balanced vegetarian breakfasts, lunches and dinners - just what I was looking for. However, the dinners are HUGE!Of course, a person does not have to cook every dish on the menu, and she does state that, but the whole reason I was drawn to this book was I wanted a book that would say, "Here eat this and you'll get all the nutrients you'll need as a vegetarian."I did not have a problem, as one reviewer did, with the idea that I would need ingredients from dinner, for example, for breakfast the next day.In fact I liked that idea. The first fall menu is:Miso Soup, Brown Rice, Aduki Beans, Sauteed Carrols, Onions and Squash and Cabbage Salad.Doesn't that sound great? For this meal, she writes that you will need TWO 2 or 3 quart covered pots, a 4-quart pressure cooker or 3-quart covered pot, plus a skillet or saucepan.Do you have, or usually need, that many pots?I don't.The next day after cooking this dinner, you use the left-over rice for breakfast, the left-over aduki beans for a soup for lunch and the left-over sauteed carrots-onions-squash in a dish of fried rice with vegetables, also part of the lunch.I like that but I would have to make the lunch for the next dinner because I just don't have time to spend over a half hour cooking a lunch.I will screw up my courage eventually to try to see how I can use this book, perhaps even buy some more pots and whatever, but I wish someone had written a review warning me about the cooking vessels needed to do the menus as written.(Waffle iron needed for breakfast number three, by the way.)

2-0 out of 5 stars different from what i expected...
this book was not what i expected. it may be a very good book for those who cook or intend to cook 3 meals a day. But when i bought this book, i thought it was about making a full balanced meal at one time. this book is set up a bit differently. it gives instructions to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner all at once. the breakfast needs some bit of dinner leftovers, the dinner requires some part of lunch leftovers and the lunch needs some ingredient from the breakfast. So in order to make one meal, you have to make all 3 meals. so if you just want to come home and cook a single meal of dinner, then this book is not for that.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic ... A good place to start
With this book, I started at the first fall menu and started cooking my way through it. It's been totally doable. The recipes are so simple and laid out with directions of what to do first, second etc. that preparing entire meals with dessert gets faster with time. (She includes a healthy dessert in most of them.) I have noticed a couple mismarkings that would've affected the whole dish if I hadn't caught them, and while some of the recipes are really wonderful, others are just plain yuck! (I know it's health food but sometimes it goes too far!) As for flavor, it's definitely on the side of the old "healthy" stuff. If you're looking for the creative haute-cuisine vegetarian/vegan stuff you can find today, this is not it. However, the meals make me feel good and satisfied. They are so balanced, I find I don't crave sweets afterwards. The suggestions for what to do with the leftovers are really useful. Also, if you are nervous (as I was) about using all of these strange ingredients, the directions are simple enough that you'll become a pro in no time. One more thing - my complexion has really improved since I started using this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it for years
I have been using this book for several years now.The lasagna recipe and oven baked fried chicken are wonderful.I have made so many of the recipes and they are all very good.Highly recommend.

4-0 out of 5 stars The best
I own quite a bit of cookbooks, and already this is tattered from kitchen use. My husband and daughter love the desserts in this book. It takes a little extra time but the carrot cake is excellent. So is the Italian pot roast. I'm a tweaker when it comes to receipes, but I didn't with this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars yet another glowing review
OK, I couldn't help it. I was browsing for another of Sandra Woodruff's books and decided to add my two cents. I have used this book for 8 years. While dieting I have fended off ravenous family members who swore they would not touch "diet food" with a ten foot pole, yet devour the fat free pizza, calzones, chicken enchiladas, and sticky buns like they were in heaven. My son is now almost 19 and still loves this food. Sandra Woodruff has a gift for making healthy food everyone's preferred choice. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Super market meat??????
Jo Robinson has done the research and it is enlightening. We have come so far from the days of the family farm and we haven't a clue.I am not a vegetarian but you can bet I won't be eating supermarket meat any longer, especially chicken (including eggs).Read the book to find out why (with scientific studies) organics, even more importantly pasture raised meat products are healthier for us.It is a quick and easy read because it does not take long to uncover the truth. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars useful book
this is a very useful book.It explains in detail how to make bread by hand (which I don't need because I have a breadmaking machine ... but it is useful to understand this even with a breadmaker). What I really like is that the wheat bread recipes don't include white bread flour like many of the other bread book that I purchased.

1-0 out of 5 stars not for bread makers
I bought this book doing a search with two phrases, whole grain and bread machine. The book promises to easily convert her recipies from oven to bredmachine. She only gives a few pages that vaguely tell to modify the recipies, but not ecactly how. Judging from previous reviews, this book must have some merit. It is not for a bread machine owner that likes simple and direct instructions.

5-0 out of 5 stars There's nothing like home-baked bread.
A splendid cookbook, by now reaching classic status. This book is exactly as advertised, chock-full of delicious whole-grain recipes with not a single 'half white, half whole' recipe in sight. (So many other whole grain books dissappoint in this area, with their idea of whole-grain being a quarter cup of oat groats mixed into white flour...)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great recipes from a truly spiritual and creative chef.
I just finished reading your book "Raw in Ten" and I was very inspired by the approach you took, your philosophy and alignment with green and holistic living, which stretches across multiple disciplines. You really go in depth to illustrate the principles and benefits behind raw food from your own experience. I appreciated the additional material related to green living like rammed earth homes, and the many websites you included for our reference. There were some minor editing and proofreading mistakes, but then again the imperfections made the book feel more real to me, that a human wrote it.
5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
The Food here is fast and taste incredible. I am new to raw foods and this book has many recipes my children will EAT!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars Love Bryan Au's Book and his upbeat attitude!!!
Bryan Au's enthusiasm and love for what he does shines through in his beautiful book "Raw In Ten Minutes"!!! Bryan gently and passionately encourages the reader to buy and eat not only Raw Food as many books are now doing, but even better, he promotes eating Organic Raw Food which is incredibly wise and sensible!!! Bryan is very grounded in his beliefs and manages to reach the reader through his book with excitement and conviction and persuade us that this new and healthful way of eating is not only the best possible move one could make for one's health, but also simple and very realistic!

1-0 out of 5 stars Yikes! Errors Galore!
This is an amazing cookbook but for the 100 or so needed corrections that Whole Foods has listed on its website. I could read this book for hours, it really has some delicious and creative healthful recipes. Unfortunately, I've learned not to go beyond READING it, as I've wasted grocery cash and time finding out that the proof (reading) was not in the "putting" for Whole Foods editorial staff! Wait till the much-needed revised edition comes out!

2-0 out of 5 stars I really wanted to like this cookbook....
...but I have to agree with the other reviewers who said that the recipes fall short. Many of them sound absolutely delicious, but I have found many errors and in recipes where there are no obvious errors, I often have to make adjustments to the seasonings or ingredients (for example, I made the Lemon Tahini Sauce tonight to go with the baked Falafel Balls...the falafel balls recipes is missing a step, and the lemon tahini sauce calls for way, way too much tahini and the end product is not what the recipe describes. I could fix both mistakes, but I shouldn't have to).I wish they would do some heavy revising to this cookbook, because it has so much promise.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but.....
I have mixed feelings about this cookbook. While I love shopping at Whole Foods, and this cookbook does indeed remind me of what I see while shopping there (unique ingredients, fresh vegetables), some of the recipes just haven't panned out (no pun intended). There is a kids section in the back and I have so far tried two of the recipes. Tomato Clouds, involving a meringue mixture stuffed into tomatoes, and Fluffy Cottage Cheese Pancakes. The tomatoes did not puff up into meringues on top like promised, and the cheese mixture was very liquidy when eaten. The pancakes were delicious HOWEVER the recipe only made 6 small pancakes and yet called for 1 1/2 tablespoons of SUGAR!!! For children, that is insane for breakfast and I can only assume that was a typo. So this cookbook has some very unique recipes and is fun to read (no photos), however I am hesitant to continue to try recipes when I am already a little disappointed in the results. Worth mentioning is that it is chock full of instructions and information about organic eating. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great recipes for those with multiple food allergies
My 2 year old is allergic to eggs, wheat, nuts, and dairy, and this is the best cookbook I have found so far. There are tons of suitable recipes to choose from, directions are detailed yet easy to follow, and the results are quite good, especially when you compare them with store bought versions (ugh!). Clear explanations of what substitute ingredients do and where to get them (egg replacer powder, anyone?). To save time, I buy pre-made gluten-free flour at my local health food store rather than making it as the author suggests, and the results have been fine so far. Worth every penny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cooking Cruelty-Free as well
This is a wonderful cookbook.I was a bit worried at first when I saw that some recipes called for gelatin.Vegetarians and people wanting to avoid exposure to mad cow disease probably would need to use something else, I thought.I made an item and substituted agar flakes. It turned out okay, not the greatest.I have since left the gelatin out and had great results, so do consider leaving this item out and experimenting if you don't wish to consume certain products.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Allergy Cookbook yet.
I have tried many allergy cookbooks and this one is by far my favorite.Every recipe that I have tried has been very good. My diet eliminates wheat, dairy, eggs and soy.Cooking Free has many, many recipes without these ingredients.Soy is used some but you can usually substitute something else.Once you gather up the different types of ingredients used you will be set to make many very good things.I was able to find everything at either my local health store or Co-op.I would highly suggest this book to anyone with restrictions in your diet. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars "Chronic Heartburn" Is a Sweet Dish
In an area filled to the lid with cookbooks of every taste and portion, "Chronic Heartburn: Managing Acid Reflux and GERD Through Understanding, Diet and Lifestyle" is a welcome and well-prepared arrival for gastronomical considerations little served at present. For anyone who suffers heartburn, and thereby tends to view the kitchen with some trepidation, "Chronic Heartburn" is a gateway to culinary freedom and delicious experience. As enjoyable to read as it is written and researched, the book offers everything: causal information of acid reflux (including informative diagrams), treatment options (including herbal ones), lifestyle modifications, guides to foods that hurt and heal, charts for effectively managing heartburn, and over one-hundred recipes, from soups to smoothies to main-course meats and seafood. Among my favorites: grilled halibut with papaya salsa, Russian-style borscht and mango chicken. As one who, like many, does suffer bouts of heartburn, I've come across few books that so effectively take the worry out of dining.

4-0 out of 5 stars One Complaint....
This is a great cookbook, I use it frequently and for the most part have good success. However, the nutrition information for each recipe is lacking, protein/sodium amounts are not listed and the fat content is not broken down.Other than that, it's a great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just had to write a reveiw about my favorite Cookbook...
An avid reader, I don't write reviews about any books, none-the-less the "Cooking" kind.We ladies who love to cook and eat are prone to buying many cookbooks only to be disappointing and donated to the local Thrift Store. But the pages of this one, and the sequel, "More, Healthy Homestyle Cooking" are well worn and lovingly revisited nearly every day. They are unique in that they teach you a different way of making meals that are not only easy and healthy but, as many others here have said, taste absolutely delicious.
4-0 out of 5 stars I use this book quite a bit

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing. Amazing. Amazing.
I have never written a review for Amazon before. Never had a reason to. But Everything Vegetarian is simply the most AMAZING cookbook out there. My husband told me that he would be happy to eat vegetarian meals if I fixed them. So, not being a cook in any way, I set out to find recipes I could try. I must have purchased ten cookbooks. Most are decent. Some things good, some things not so good. But EVERY SINGLE recipe in Everything Vegetarian turns out perfectly. Most recipes have a Mediterranean touch, using toasted cumin seeds and the like. And Mr. Weinstein explains clearly each step in the recipe. There is never a question of "What does THAT mean?" or "Where would I find THAT ingredient." He tells you everything. I genuinely wish I could find this man and kiss his feet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Has a ton of things I can make
I'm not a vegetarian, but I eat very healthy. This book has a ton of things I can make and my whole family will eat.Worth the price just for the Saffron Rissotto on Page 139!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Commentary
Even if you never use a single recipe from this book, the amusing commentary blurbs make it worth reading. Jay Weinstein has a great sense of humor which is shown in several little textboxes throughout this cookbook.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book
3-0 out of 5 stars Is It Me or Is This Mediocre?
Over the past two decades I've been a huge fan of both the Moosewood cookbook and the Enchanted Broccoli Forest - eagerly gifting them to friends who profess having even the smallest interest in cooking vegetarian foods. While these books are a testament to how great vegetarian food can look, taste, smell and satisfy - once my metabolism slowed down I needed something with a little less emphasis on fat for flavor. As a member of WW I found the WW Versatile Vegetarian cookbook lackluster and uninspired - so I turned to the Moosewood Collective in hopes of finding LF veggie happiness.

5-0 out of 5 stars COOKING WITH THE SUN
THIS IS A VERY GREAT BOOK FOR ANY ONE GETTING IN TO SOLAR COOKING. YOU WON'T BE SORRY. DANIEL T. SHANNON

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Basic, but Thorough
This is a well written, friendly book that teaches solar cooking without being preachy. The directions to make the cookers are reasonable...The recipies are also good and well organized for the different kinds of cookers. As energy prices skyrocket, these kinds of cookers can really help save you money, keep the environment a little cleaner, and keep your house cooler. (You can bake with these things - and you don't have to bake yourself along with the cake or run the a/c to cool off again!) And though the sun doesn't shine all the time, it's free, and even in California, you'll be able to keep cookin' right through the rolling blackouts while not heating up the kitchen!

4-0 out of 5 stars A great book with many workable designs and complete plans
This book does an outstanding job of outlining exactly how to construct and use solar cookers. The designs use available materials and no special equipment is needed. Most solar cookers in this book can be built in a fewhours, and the reflector size can be modified to provide adequateheatunder even cold, cloudy conditions. A first choice if you are interested inpractical uses of solar energy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars CHICKEN FAJITA SALAD - BUY THE BOOK JUST FOR THIS!
I just received CRAZY PLATES and made the chicken fajita salad for Memorial Day.While putting this salad together I was beginning to have my doubts. But fear not, this is a fantastic tasting salad and I definately plan on making it again.
5-0 out of 5 stars great food with good size portions
I'm on weight watchers and I like the weight watcher's take out tonight book but I feel the portions are just a touch small, this book however is great. The taste is good and you will actually get full plus another thing I like about the book its that it not a bunch of non fat ingredients like non fat cheese or sour cream etc... I also like that the entire book uses the same spices so you do not have to run out and buy a bunch of different spices. I've only had to purchase coriander. Plus it gives you a whole bunch of little tips and inspirations on every page. Out of the 9 low fat or weight watchers cookbooks that I own this one is by far the best. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A corrector to my faults.
Shortly, as I see it, is the best for beginners.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not recommended as a first macrobiotic book
Michio Kushi is considered one of the fathers of the macrobiotic philosophy to life. This is a valuable book because it includes much information about the rationale of the eating philosophy. It does have recipes, but is more of a philosophy of eating and cooking book. I would recommend purchasing a cook book by Christina Pirello ("Cook Your Way to the Life you Want" or Cooking the Wholefoods Way") or Kristina Turner's "Self-healing Cookbook," in order to have access to a wider range of recipes that include more easily found ingredients, to complement "The Macrobiotic Way."

5-0 out of 5 stars The Title Says It All -- Use This Book For Healing Recipes
I turned to macrobiotics after learning of wheat and sugar sensitivities. My list of foods was so restrictive that I wasn't sure what I would be able to eat -- or if anything would even taste good!
5-0 out of 5 stars Very fast shipping and just as described.
Thank you for the quick shipping and the great book. Barbara M.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Book (in any edition) for Healing Yourself with Food
I have owned this book for more than 15 years and refer back to it often. Like the other reviewers, I can't say enough good things about this book. I especially like the way the information is organized.
