1-0 out of 5 stars Junk
I planned to write that this book is useless, but it is actually worse - it is downright annoying. Unless you are interested in how Lance surfs the net after a training ride or who his girlfriend is, you will find it far too vague to be of any value.

4-0 out of 5 stars A "must have" for every cyclist
Lance's name and picture on the book's cover has the major selling appeal. However, it's also the book's drawback. Why? The book says that "inside you find the exercises, ridind schedules, endurance builders, and mental tricks that brought Lance back to the pinnacle of cycling". Sorry, but you will not find this in the book. The book is obviously written by Chris Charmichal, not Lance. You will find in the book every aspect of cycling a beginner should know. An expert that lacks training discipline will also find the book very usefull. But as mentioned before, you will not find Lance's training regiment to win Tour the France. If the book have had the following title, "The Chris Carmichael Performance Program for Cyclists", it should have earned 5 stars. As a "Lance Armstrong Performance Program", it earns just 4.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nutritional Enlightenment
I have been fighting with my weight all my life. This book has taught me how to stop fighting uselessly against my body and start working with my whole self to achieve well-being. Really enlightening.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes sense!
A refreshing change from other "nutrition" books, you'll find yourself rethinking your attitude about food.David's focus is more about HOW to eat than WHAT to eat. This book is a different approach than you've probably encountered before, but if you read it and give it some thought, I think you'll conclude that it most definitely makes sense.5-0 out of 5 stars A Recipe for Holistic Eating
One of the traps which many of us fall into when we become aware of the relationship between nutrition and health is that we establish a set of dietary rules according to which we label foods as either "good"or "bad."Once a certain food has been assigned to the"bad" category, we might even become critical of ourselves andothers for desiring or eating that food. The more zealous we are in ourconviction that we have found the one right way of eating, the more limitedwe become in our understanding of food and our interaction with it.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable
I liked the book and found the information helpful to couples. It is also a good read if you are single and looking to improve your relationship skills. I didn't like that fact that the positions are only described, even stick figures could help some of us who are more visual. Still a good book.

I've been operating on a diet of sex for some time now, so it's no surprise that I'm irritated by this author's claiming it as her own discovery. Am I obliged to credit this author for the many pounds I've shed since I began my substitution program?

Editorial Review

If you've been a yo-yo dieter for years or if you can eat a pound of pasta at one sitting, this book may very well be an eye opener. In simple--but never condescending--language, it explains the roots of carbohydrate cravings and teaches you how to normalize your insulin levels to prevent future food binges. Regulated insulin levels in turn help to temper serotonin levels, so food cravings and mood swings are prevented. The authors, both research scientists (one a health psychologist, the other a pathologist), have lost and kept off a total of 200 pounds between them. They've based this book on nearly a decade's worth of research, during which they've helped nearly 80 percent of their patients lose weight and keep it off for at least a year.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A TREAT WHEN YOU EAT !
I like this book very much ! I followed this diet with a friend and she an I were trying to lose weight . Guess what, THE DIET DID WORK ! The book tells you what you have to eat threw the course of the day with foods that are low in carbohydrates. You can decide which meal of the day you choose to have your goodies (TREATS).For EXAMPLE: If you want a Treat for breakfast it can only be with that meal. You can decide when you want to eat your treat, either it be lunch or dinner its up to you. But It will only be that one meal of the day that you choose. You CANNOT eat your TREATS in every meal. Of course, we incorporated EXCERCISE which also helped in the process to lose weight. I'm the type of person who likes VARIETY, so I have many books on diet and nutrition. So when I get bored with one diet I can choose another. When I do find the BEST diet for me, I will tell all you readers out there about it! Stay motivated and be forever fit!

2-0 out of 5 stars I'll Pass On Carb-Loading One Hour A Day
When you have lost weight, it's a very natural thing for others to be curious about how you lost your weight and kept it off. Whenever they have heard me tell my story, read my blog or book, or found out that I did it on the low-carb lifestyle, one question invariably has come up from time to time:
5-0 out of 5 stars A life saver
I've been reading reviews written by others and am a little irritated by some people putting this diet down.Everyone needs to understand that not every diet suits everyone and that just because a diet doesn't work for you does not mean it is rubbish or stupid, that's plain immaturity.Everybody is a complex being with different physical, mental, psychological and emotional needs.I can say that in my case if I hadn't come across this book in my local library on a day when I was feeling particularly tired and drained in every way,I don't even know if I would be alive today!I had been suffering from bulimia for two years bordering on anorexia. This book changed me and my life 10 years ago.I am and will be thankful forever.Thank you Dr Richard and Rachael Heller :-) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Something I Understand
This book was recommended to me by a friend. I was skeptical about the practicality of the "minimal effort = maximum weight loss" plan that is stated on the cover. But this book is not about minimal effort or maximum weight loss. It's about a practical approach to developing and maintaining a lifestyle that will result in a heathier body. Isaacson and his co-authors provide details and specific guidelines for a simple, logical plan of diet and exercise that even I have been able to follow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely
This book is different from any diet book I've ever read (and I've read them all). It emphasizes small changes for slow, long-term weight loss. This isn't a quick fix. Each week you add one small change to your eating - for example, in the first week, you're to drink 16oz of water every few hours. The second week you add another small diet or activity change and so on. 5-0 out of 5 stars one of a kind
Great book, easy to follow, and great reasults. You will love it. ... Read more

This book is good!It gives practical measures to losing weight, including diet and fitness.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Beginner Reference
For those of you new to nutrition. This is a good foundation for a generalized understanding of basic nutritional concepts.Good overall reference, clearly written and simple to understand.Packed with sound information about fat loss and maintenance.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor editintg hurts credibility
Although the book may contain some very good information, the poor editing makes it hard for me to read. As a magazine editor, I probably notice these problems more than others, but I find them very distracting. I may change my rating once I've made it through the entire book, but as it is, I'm having trouble reading more than 2-3 pages at a time without putting the book down in annoyance. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read
This is the most influential book I have ever read and touched me in a way no other book has.Literally, it changed my life and the way I see our diet and our world.John Robbins is such an excellent writer. This book along with the PETA video "Meat your Meet" converted me for good to becoming a vegan.I have given copies to family, friends, even patients. It is a fact that so many health problems are CURED and or PREVENTED with a vegan diet.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book everybody must read!
I read the version in a different language. My husband can only read English so I bought him this book. He first felt bored when he read the first several chapters, all about characters of animals. Then he seemed like he was addicted to the book and tried to finished it. After he finsihed the book, he told me he wanted to eat vegetable. Since then, he is more vegetarian than I do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Oldie but a Goodie
This is a great book.John Robbins starts with one farm animal at a time and tells how that animal is sentient, can be characterized with what we might call human qualities, and then tells how that animal is treated on the factory farm. Each chapter begins with a quote you can use to further your campaign against factory farming.

4-0 out of 5 stars Raw Food Diet

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource for Raw Food Nutrition
This book provides a straight-forward approach to a raw-food diet, and the changes required to maintain the health of your pet through the process. It also helps to have someone who can assist you in locating the ingredients locally, but Schultze provides all the requisite information that you will need.A great resource to go to when you get a nagging question, or have a concern.Try not to let people talk you out of trying the diet, as you WILL see changes in the health of your pet; many veterinarians that I have spoken with are not particularly supportive. My 2 y/o Lab has a softer coat, clearer eyes, and better muscle tone since I have started him on the diet. This diet is slightly more expensive than feeding dog chow, but the reward of having a healthy, happy pet far outweigh the associated costs.Good luck, and enjoy your pet!

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST cookbook!
I love this cookbook!
5-0 out of 5 stars Great ideas for kids meals!
I have "First Meal" by the same author and that book is equally as good though in the first few sections of both books the meals are the same. In "Superfoods" it seems like there are some meals I would not make for my son because I'm not sure how healthy they are but she fills the chapters with cute ideas to make food more appealing to kids! Love the author and the ideas!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring!
I don't know about you, but peanut butter sandwiches meal after meal, with an occasional dose of macaroni and cheese, just doesn't float my boat. How do the kids stand it? And is there anything that we can do to get them out of the chicken nuggets rut?

2-0 out of 5 stars Not what the title implies
This book is designed for mega body builders who want advice on taking lots of supplements in order to bulk up and obtain the type of physique shown on the cover. It is not very good at explaining how to get maximum nutritional value from food in order to more efficiently burn fat, which is what I was hoping for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book that introduces sound advice and concepts
This book is largely Dent's take on the Macro Nutrient ratios i.e. how much of our food intake should be Carbohydrates, Protein and Fat. In Macrobolic Nutrition these ratio's are 45% Carbs, 35% Protein, and 20% Fat.
5-0 out of 5 stars Macrobolic Nutrition
This book is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to learn more about how important the types of food we eat are when trying to sculpt a lean and muscular physique. It comes complete with Glycemic indexes, nutrient breakdowns, and caloric intake charts for people over/under 15%bodyfat, active/sedentary, breakfast, lunch and dinner meal plans. The best part about the diet is that it doesn't restrict anything. Without giving away everything the nutrient breakdown goes 45/35/20- carbs, protein, fat. The book gives detailed descriptions of when the best time is to take in your nutrients, and supplement recomendations. Given that Dente runs his own supplement company that isn't surprising, but the advice is solid and from what I've heard his MHP product line is top notch. As a personal trainer I have been recommending this diet to my clients, (but actually getting them to follow through is a different story). Try it for yourself and you won't be disappointed. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book even if you are not pregnant!
This book is a gem not only for its balanced nutritional information, but just as a GREAT cookbook. Have you ever had a cookbook where you can just pick it up and EVERYTHING you make is fabulous? Well, this is the one. Recipies are easy to make and quick for busy people. The salmon with papaya salsa is out of this world! Whenever I make something outstanding, I always say to my husband, "Guess what cookbook this came out of?" This book has made preparing for pregnancy a culinary delight! Thanks Jones and Hudson!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great nutritional info.
I love this book! I am trying to conceive and I bought it so I could start eating right. I am a healthy eater anyway, but the book offers useful info. about why you need certain nutrients and how much more of each vitamin and mineral as well as how many more calories you should be eating. There are also many good recipes. I have made only 2 so far but both were yummy. I highly recommend this book to anyone pregnant or looking to start trying to conceive.

5-0 out of 5 stars What works works.
When I was growing up in Upstate New York, I was skinny.I hated being thin and could pump iron and eat all day to no avail. Then, I grew up.I aged.By my mid-twenties I had packed on 40 pounds (over my college years). While people still thought I was thin, I wasn't.I should have been happy, but I noticed that carrying this extra weight around was wearing my joints and me out.I could exercise and lose weight, but barely walk because of the shin splints (from running).
3-0 out of 5 stars No secrets here
Yes, another diet book. This one attempts to slim America by sharing the "secrets" that have worked for this Park Avenue diet doctor and her clients.
5-0 out of 5 stars Get this book if you want success!
Like many women, I have lost weight many, many times, but keeping it off has been difficult. In January, I went back to my popular meeting type weight loss program, but this time I started to read everything I could on the topic and incorporated many of the ideas I learned on my own with my program. I've enjoyed a lot of success and sense strongly that this time the weight is going to stay off.

This is an excellent book. It is a "must have" item for anyone wanting to improve the functioning of their brain. I purchased one copy of his book for myself and another copy for my best friend. I feel certain that I made a vey wise choice in purchasing "The Miracle Brain"

1-0 out of 5 stars Wrong Stance on Important Topic
Dr. Murray condons the use of Sucralose and Asparatame, pg 45. There is so much scientific data showing how harmful these pervasive substances are, it is unconscionable to approve their use in ANY way.
5-0 out of 5 stars Informative and Helpful
"Healing Foods" takes a holistic approach to health, starting with the food we put in our bodies.I found "Healing Foods" helpful in pointing out what kinds of fruit are best bought organic.Organic watermelon for instance is better than conventional watermelon due to its high absorption of pesticides etc.I wouldn't say "Healing Foods" is a bible, but it's a good reference on healthy living.Because it's a reference book and not a guide book, it requires you to have something in mind.If you have say "hazelnuts" in mind and you want to know how best to store them and what they're nutritional value is, then the book is helpful."Healing Foods" is not, however, a substitute for proper medical attention and especially acute medical care.

4-0 out of 5 stars Grenerally good book
I liked the presentation of the book. It has a list of all different kinds of foods and then gives the benefits.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspired
Years ago, I picked up a book called "The Only Diet There Is."After reading it, I considered it too New Age and outrageous to really help in the battle of the bulge. It dealt specifically with how thoughts and negative emotions were keeping us all fat.It spoke about the pursuit of pleasure, toxic thoughts, forgiving others, ourselves and finally letting go of the obsession with weight. There was no science to it, just a book of affirmations urging us all to change our thoughts/feelings from negative to positive in order to lose the weight.Good book, but seemed so WAAAAY out there that I never fully gave it a chance.Besides the fact that it had no science to back it up.I wanted a program that worked!
5-0 out of 5 stars Profound
I found every page of this book to be profound. I found myself saying "yes!" out loud, and marking up the pages. These metabolic powers are things that I've known intuitively for so long (and have practiced most of them), yet have never seen them articulated anywhere--certainly not in a "diet" book. Thank you, Marc David, for freeing people from the misery and deprivation of typical diet and weight loss programs. I'm promoting your book on my site, because it reflects my own weight loss philosophy, and I want my site visitors to read it!

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
