4-0 out of 5 stars Great book, but I wish it didn't have steaming and blanching
I would ordinarily return a raw cookbook that had instructions for steaming and blanching, but this one at least says those steps are optional, and the remaining recipes are very good.
5-0 out of 5 stars no matter what you're eating style, you'll love this book!
As a kid, I spent very little time in the kitchen so I never learned to cook from my mom. In a rare moment, I once asked my grandma for her recipe for apple crisp. (Neither my grandmother or my mom used many recipes. They just mixed a little of this or a dab of that.) What she told me would never have been edible had I undertaken to make it. I keep the card I wrote her brief instructions down on for memories but I cook because of people like Renee who write instructions and measurements I can follow!
5-0 out of 5 stars If you buy 1 raw foods book....Buy this one!
I have read several raw foods book and must say this is the absolute best one I have seen.It is much more than a cook-book.

4-0 out of 5 stars The New Detox Diet:
Good information and clearly mapped out.Knowledgable commentary and practical applications.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome,simply Awesome
This book is well written and easy to understand. It really explains how and why to detox. It actually has daily menu plans that you can actually use. No wierd foods or herbs just everyday food you can find at your local grocer or farmers market. I have read many books on detox and this is by far the best I have read. I finally can start detox rather than just reading about it. Thank you Dr Haas, BRILLIANT

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!!!
As physicians, we are used to prescribe and trust only on pharmacotherapy. This book gives you a medical approach to nutrition therapy to add effective counseling and a scientific approach to your patient's nutricional issues, in order to add a new therapeutical tool to your daily practice. obese patients? it is just not enought to say "cut out haburgers, eat more salad" a problem-oriented anamnesis and special physical measurements must be done. Wanna know the diference between a diet for a COPD patient and one with arthritis? this book gives you the theoretical basis as well as the "for dummies" approach

4-0 out of 5 stars Can't Live Without It
This book is the required text of my dietetics coursework time and time again and thus I use it extensively. At first I resented the very large and heavy book, but more and more I find myself turning to it for answers, even for things that aren't school-related. My university has a book rental program. Previously I'd only rented the book, but now, as I sit inbetween semesters, I find myself missing it terribly. The moment the bookstore opens I will be buying this book for keeps.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lazy Americans are fat
Why are Americans so fat? According to this dope, it's because of fast food. Which is an easy way to shift the blame from ourselves, our laziness, and our lac of discipline and blame those mean corporations for offering us all sorts of alternatives that we can accept or decline. Gee, I wish Mommy Government would outlaw unhealthy foods and unhealthy portions! Then everything would be right with the world; after all, no government has ever consolidated power over its people and then abused them. Right? People shouldn't have to make decisions for themselves! It's not fair to ask us to use our brains and decide what's best for ourselves. Someone else should take responsibility so we can just sit around watching television shows and playing on the Internet.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you liked "Super-Size Me!" you'll love this book!
I cannot begin to tell you how often I chuckled outloud! While much of the information that Spurlock presents is startling and eye-opening of a seriously disturbing nature, he does so with a healthy dose of comic relief.I believe that this book is something that every parent, teacher, administrator and politician should read and read again.Anyone concerned about what we put in our mouths and call food, especially with the health and well-being of our youth, will want to read this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Out of Date?
This five year old PDR Family Guide to Nutritional Supplements, first edition, Dec. 2001, is an excellent consise book and easy to read. However it is out of date when compared with PDR Health on-line. To get started this book is good. To get the latest information from PDR one has to go on-line and combining the two can be confusing. I'll not order until the second edition is released.

5-0 out of 5 stars I use it in my healing practice, and nursing practice
Note:First of all, there are 2 natural remedy PDRs, one for Nutritional rRemedies and Supplements, and another specifically for Herbal Remedies. You will NOT find herbal info in the nutritional PDR, nor nutritional supplements in the Herbal PDR.
5-0 out of 5 stars Brim Full of Information
Tired of getting your supplement information from the vitamin shop clerk? This is state of the art stuff. Finally here is a book that both the lay person and the physician can safely turn to. The author has no axe to grind. He neither overstates nor understates, but is carefully objective in his presentation and allows the evidence to speak for itself. Dr. Hendler brings to his subject an open mind, wide ranging intelligence, and a rigorous training in all of the relevant disciplines. He refuses to be a shill either for entrenched medical orthodoxy or starry eyed alternative approaches. The result is a cornucopia of information. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lunch Lessons will open your eyes...
I commend Ann Cooper and Lisa Holmes on their approach to raising awareness to our Nation's archaic method of feeding children.Ann Cooper does not only preach about the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) needing major reform, she is out there in the trenches taking action. This book brings attention to benchmark school systems and provides ideas to help foster change. This is a great read for parents who want to know what is going on in the changing landscape for School Nutrition;Extremely beneficial for school food service providers in hopes to get them on the "bus" to reform;A must read for School Administrators that hold the "purse strings" which dictate our childrens diets; and for anyone else that is concerned with the growing epidemic of childhood obesity and lack of "real food" that is promoted to children.

4-0 out of 5 stars another great product from david
I am a great supporter of David Kirsch, his products, his books, and his DVD's. His advice is data driven on what works for your body as a life style, not a "lose it and forget it" quick fix. The exercise routines give the most "bang for your buck" because he combines movements; all of which are the best moves that specific body part. The "core program" routine is not just legs, arms, back, core, or cardio. It is "all of the above"! Don't worry about eating boiled chicken and steamed veggies for the rest of your life. His recipes provide diversity and flavor. I highly recommend his supplements as well. I know that David will include everything you need, and nothing you don't. Read his books, and buy his DVD's, your body will be healthier and stronger.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous timely information
I have been following the SuperFoodsRx food recommendations for about a year now. Not only did my borderline thyroid problem vanish but also over 30 pounds. I feel healthier and look younger than I did 10 years ago. I was excited when I saw the Superfoods Healthstyle audio on Audible.com where I get most of my audio books. I have listened to the combined SuperfoodsRx and Superfoods Healthstyle several times now. Thank you for giving me the tools for a healthy, vibrant lifestyle.
5-0 out of 5 stars A vital part of the road to great nutrition!
My research has indicated that their are four principles of effective weight and blood sugar management. They are (1) Nutritional balance, (2) Eating foods with a low glycemic impact, (3) Eating foods with a lower energy density and (4) Regular Exercise. This book and its companion "SuperFoods RX" are definitely the apex of nutritional balance. The recommended foods are also highly supportive of the other principles.
4-0 out of 5 stars Tasty Tidbits
What I really liked about this book is that it shows you how to incorporate the "superfoods" into your life in small everyday ways, in addition to complete recipes. If you're like me, you have lots of cookbooks and health books with recipes that sound good, but you hardly use. I don't want to make a complicated recipe every day. Pratt and Matthews show you how to introduce the health benefits of these foods into your kitchen and your life seamlessly, including simple food preparation tips and "mini-recipes" as well as more standard recipes.Things like: mix cinnamon and cocoa and sprinkle on fruit; or mix pomegranate juice with selzer and lemon for a refeshing antioxidant cocktail.Worth it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
2-0 out of 5 stars This book wasn't that terrible, but...
It wasn't very good, either. The gist of the book is this:
4-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice
I can't say any other adjective for the book, other than it's nice. It seems sugar coated to me, because obviously she has suffered more than she leads on. OK, i see that the results are fantastic, but still, i just can't believe everything she says. But I hope that's exactly what she went through, because it's very motivating. (I think, because for those people who didn't lose as much weight, it can be pretty stressful) As for the recipes, I didn't try them yet, but other than that I think it's good resource. But not for the Gastric Banding! Only for Gastric Bypass. Though some suggestions may apply to both. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Is a Week in the Zone worth your money?
I read it and learned much, including how all the so called experts disagree. He makes it inderstandable, easy to digest (no pun intended) and well worth the price and the time it takes to read. I have since passed it on to a couple friends. Good investment to be sure.
4-0 out of 5 stars This is really all you need to learn The Zone
Don't bother with the longer books unless you want to get down and into the scientific data behind the Zone. And don't bother with the cookbook because it's absolutely horrible. This book explains the Zone and how to get there, has a few sample menu's (that should be used as guide's only) and a list of food 'blocks' in the back. It's all you need to get going.I highly recommend this book, and the Zone diet in general.I have lost 15 lbs in the past 7 weeks. It has been 7 easy weeks with 100% contentment and 0% hunger & struggles.I could not be happier.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Zone Cliff Notes version
This little book explains the Zone diet in a quick read and avoids the long clinical approach found in his other books.I went from 209 pounds to 151 pounds with the principles of this book. Once you understand how insulin works against you to store fat,and learn the right amount of protein and carbs your body needs to maintain your ideal weight, you can begin your journey to eat in the zone and lose weight. It has been my eating guidelines for almost 10 years. It is well worth the trouble to learn to treat food as a drug.

Years ago, Suzanne Somers lost the chance to appear on a hit television series because she was "too chunky." That missed opportunity started her on a "diet roller coaster," trying all kinds of diets. I was very disappointed in this book even though it was a miniature. Some of the pages were blank, having not even been printed.I figure the book was a total loss of money spent.

4-0 out of 5 stars Eat as much as you want.
Sticking to the diet in the book I lost 35 lbs in five months.I find, interesting the fact that I can eat as much, or even more that I need as long as I keep the named proteins and carbs separate. This is the second copy of the book I have purchased and did so for my son and his family. He needs to lose about 20 pounds. I suggested that he follow the book suggestions very strickly and he should attain his goal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eat Great, Lose Weight- It really is THAT simple!
I am about to get married in a year, and as usual, I am looking for any way I can to slim down for that perfect wedding dress.Just a few days ago, I was sluggish, and depressed after going on Jenny Craig and failing at it.I went on Jenny Craig at age 16 and was uncannily successful, almost 10 years later, I decided to try it again, but to no avail. It just didn't fit my life style anymore, and I had a REALLY hard time refraining from cheating, and incorporating resturaunt and "non-menu" meals to fit my plan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Readable, in-depth discussion of nutrition and metabolism.
Currently, many people are becoming seriously interested in the role of nutrition in human health. Fortunately, there are many good books on nutrition and health for the interested lay person. But once one begins to understand the extreme importance of nutrition for achieving and maintaining good health where can a seriously interested lay person turn for more detailed information? The answer is to this book. Yes, this book requires some serious study, but it is quite well written and does not require a degree in chemistry or biology to follow. A dilligent lay person can gain much valuable information from it. If you are really serious about understanding the role of nutrition in human health I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best advanced nutrition book I know.
If you want (or need) to go deep into nutrition, this is the book. Very well organized and researched information. Covers in depth nutritional physiology and biochemistry. I used this book in an advanced undergraduate nutrition course and I consider it one of my prized possessions. If there is a better book on the subject, I would like to know about it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best biochemical nutrition textbook!
I am a graduate student who majors in Nutrition. This is a best biochemical nutrition textbook I ever read! What I like about this textbook is: (1) relatively light weight (575 pages) for this type of textbook, yet very comprehensive. It contains from basic physiology and biochemistry to a current field such as antioxidant nutrition; (2) a large amount of well summarized figures (almost every page has al least one figure); (3) plain English; (4) each chapter concludes with annotated bibliography so that you could use this book as a sort of literature review on a specific field; (5) well-made index, so that you could use this as a sort of encyclopedia of nutrition. Title says "advanced", but I recommend this book to undergraduate students who look for explanation on the biochemistry basis in the nutrition field. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Business Behind The Bulge
Whether you eat fast food or not, it is likely you still purchase your foods from the supermarket. For everyone who eats, 'Fat Land' is a must-read.Greg Critser uncovers not just the fast food industry but the slaughterhouse and meat packing industries, the soda industry, frozen foods, corporatized farming, and how these factors 'weigh in' at supermarkets and in school lunches.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not a compelling book; simply a research paper.
This was summer reading for the MTSU/Murfreesboro, TN community; the MTSU administration attempts to pick books with usefulness in a broad range of departments and fields.
5-0 out of 5 stars Enlightening and revealing
I consider myself a healthy eater and ordered this book because the title caught my eye.The book is based on extensive research and is interesting, enlightening and sad all at the same time. After reading this book, I'm convinced the new four-letter-word is HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) and I've tried to eliminate it from our pantry.I only wish everyone could read this book, as I think it would help to deal with our problems of obesity and increased medical costs.A great read! ...
