This book is very helpful and it is a companion to the Curves Book(which I already have). This book makes it easy to follow your plan when you are on the go.

4-0 out of 5 stars exercise!
I attend curves for women. I skimmed over the book but did not use it and still achieved good results. The book may be helpful for those who have a lot to lose. I would like to say that the machines, when used propery, are good. Weights are not needed BECAUSE THEY ARE HYDROLIC! The whole point of the machine is so that you push yourself. And to one person's opinion that it was only 30 seconds, how muchgood could it do, well push yourself, keep up your heartbeat, work the machines the right way, and stick with it. The more you work at something, the easier it gets, so push yourself again. My mother and sister used the book and found it very helpful and had even better results than me. Even if you don't "diet" your health will improve due to the exercise. The book was made to be incorperatied with the Curves exercise. So i would recomend doing both for the best results. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book!
One of my favorite things is this book tells of which I love to see goes into practice for this country is the Chinese tradition where the doctor pays the patient if he gets sick and the patient pays the doctor if he stays healthy. With that alone there could be a great change in how doctors in this country treat their patients. They just wouldn't be puppets to the drug companies. Many interesting things covered in this book about the FDA, vitamins, Calcium and modern medicine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This book is very informative, with extremely useful advice.I strongly believe that the use of calcium as outlined in the book will help the body heal itself.I have a question for the registered nurses who have discounted this book:How can you sleep at night knowing that everyday you go to work you pump into your patients highly toxic medications, which has deadly side effects??I'm sure you all know that drugs covers up the symptoms and does absolutely nothing for the underlying cause of the illness. Please stop being hypocrites.

5-0 out of 5 stars Watch Your Food
The book, Death By Diet is an excellent book. It is full of very basic down to earth information on our relationship between the food we eat and the health of our body. All adults should read this book and learn from it. If we followed the recommendations in this book we would have healthier bodies. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars For beginners; non-n00bs should listen to the podcast
I'd been vegan for about 8 years when I read this book. It was amusing and I liked the style (I, for one, love making fun of overaged hippies; their belief that they invented social progress can be pretty annoying.) But there's not much in it for experienced vegans.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Easy-to-Read Helpful Book
This book provides the basics of many useful tips and changes you need to make to be vegan, all in a very informal tone. It was an easy to read book with everything helpful you need, from listing common animal-based ingredients to places where you can get non-leather or fur materials.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for vegetarians too!
Well written book with many bases covered on veganism and the ethics of diet. This book is helpful for vegetarians, vegans, and really anyone who wants a better understanding of the topic and what their food choices mean.Vegetarians who read this book will realize that vegans are on the same team but better players and can aspire to be vegan or at least as vegan as possible. This book is a particularly good resource for someone who has chosen a vegetarian or vegan diet for ethical reasons (primarily) and wants to know how to handle the `hell' of other people with their misinformation, pre-conceived notions, and generally negative attitude toward vegetarian / vegan dietary choices. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference Book
I've been experimenting with orthomolecular nutrition for several years, and found Dr. Haas' book to be an invaluable resource. He gives ample information about each vitamin, mineral, etc. including deficiency and toxicity symptoms. It has been a very useful book.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is an excellent book!
Emotinally eating is nothing new--we've all done it, we'll probably do it in the future. The problem lies in the fact, as this book suggests, that we can overcome it and get onto better eating habits. Inside the book, I found invaluable information and want to definitely pass it along to others. This is one not to be missed! Another good one I've read and got a lot out of, as far as losing weight, is "Fatass No More".

5-0 out of 5 stars UNIVERSAL TRUTHS(with a Small Side of Silly)
It's been a long road to get to today.Same as all of us with these disorders.Tried everything, always failed.Always got to that point on a diet where an overwhelming "need" to eat just one more little bit lead to a full-blown, raging, ravenous inhalation of everything edible in sight, a trip to the store for more, and a promise to start again tomorrow, Monday, or on the 1st, or after the holidays are over, or after my birthday, etc. ad nauseum.
5-0 out of 5 stars So glad I found it
I would recommand this book to anyone that eats because of stress, depression, bored, etc. This book made me really think and gave good advice to realize why I eat the way I do.

5-0 out of 5 stars 100 ideas in 100 days of intimate personal education
In her attempt to deal with the crisis of overeating and obesity, the author took a long shot at the psychology of such unrestrained human behavior. She started by defining the place of food in people's life, the rule of conscious behavior, and the body's response to over eating. She then tackles the motivation, emotion, and triggers that master such behavior and proposes distracting gimmicks to modify eating behavior. Finally, she hopes for long term adherence to a new healthy pattern of behavior that she strove to construct.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for the neophyte, nothing new
This is a good book to have if you know nothing about nutrition and want to learn some of the basics. You can collect all the basic information here through general Internet research. True, it's nice to have it all in one place in a logical format, but I really expected much more detailed advice for a book targeted specifically to endurance athletes than 'you need to manage your carbohydrates over the length of the event'-type advice. Not worth the money in my opinion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to digest (sorry!) and helped my riding a lot
Ryan's writing is clear and effective. I had some of the basic concepts, but reading her book really clarified how to eat before, during, and after long bike rides. Since reading her book I've set a number of PRs for long rides, due in large part to changing my pre-ride and recovery eating habits. I strongly recommend this book to any endurance athlete who wants to feel better while running or cycling. It's the next-best thing to seeing a nutritionist in person (which I also recommend).

5-0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile Sports Nutrition Book
As a coach, I want my athletes to not only be training well, but using sound nutritional strategies.

2-0 out of 5 stars Low Calorie, Complex Carb, Low Glycemic Diet Book
Denise Austin's book, if you follow her plan, will help you lose weight. It comes from keeping calories very low (fewer than 1500 a day), eating complex carbs and protein, and exercising. There is nothing here that a person cannot get off the internet for free or in a fitness magazine from the grocery store.Austin has "daily dozen" exercises, which are a cross between yoga moves and calisthenics, and she says 30 minutes of walking a day is also necessary. Duh. She also points out the the Daily Dozen are really for people who are sedentary and not those who already are pretty fit. Another thing that bugged me was that she "tried" the low-carb diet for ONE day and it made her tried and cranky so she KNEW that it was bogus. Well, I'm not saying Atkins is the way to go, but when I went off sweets for a month I wanted to die either by my own hand or someone else's -- I was so miserable with headaches and mood swings that I thought I was hitting early menopause, yet no one would tell me that I should keep eating Hostess Ding Dongs if they make me feel better.
3-0 out of 5 stars Lots of info, not enough good recipes
Denise is great with providing a ton of useful information in this book. The recipes weren't as appealing as I thought they would be. I read the book for the first couple days that I had it, but haven't opened it since. The recipes really did nothing for me to actually attempt to make them.

1-0 out of 5 stars If anyone eats 1300 calories...
you are going to lose weight.I don't care what you eat.I was initially attracted to this book because I agree that eating "no carbs" is a gimmick and nutritionally unsound. But to claim that diabetics can eat small portions of white flour and sugar is like telling an alcoholic they can just have one glass of wine.Irresponsible! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Why Your Child is Hyperactive
It may have been written 25 years ago but my son was a totally different child within a week of following the Feingold Diet! It's been weeks now and even he is willing to follow the diet because he says he likes the way he feels. I am so glad I will not have to put my 5 year old child on drugs that will alter his personality. This is a must read for anyone looking for a way to fix the problem and the long term affects of hyperactivity. Doping your child may be the easy way out but doesn't address the cause. This may not help all cases but it's worth a try.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Feingold diet saved my child's life
Dr Feingold's theory is that bad behaviour and/or learning disabilities in otherwise bright children is caused by artifical colors and flavors. Although it may seem too simplistic, it is the answer IF you, as a parent, are willing to alter your lifestyle by reading ingredient labels and preparing food that is normal, natural and healthy. A child cannot do this on their own! But you will save your child's future and maybe your own sanity. A must buy!

5-0 out of 5 stars MIRACULOUS TOOL NEEDED BY PARENTS/GUARDIANS
Dr. Feingold's book saved my sanity in 1985 through this book!My daughter who was absolutely unable to follow directions, orlisten for more than one minute is just the beginning of descibing her challanging behavior before applying this book to her life! She was so hyperactive it meant a day of running around in circles, running up a wall, jumping off of furniture, absolutely "crazy" actions constantly. Our lives with her were sheer he--: trying to go out in public, attend religious events, visit friends/relatives, go to the park or groucery store meant an exhausting, unpleasant experience!I had taken her to a nutrionist, allergist, & psychiatrist to find an anwer and help.No specialist was able to help.I bought this book figuring that we were running out of hope; let's try it. I read this book and began following Dr. Feingold's methods exactly as he writes.Within four days my daughter's behavior changed into a normal functioning small child. My mother came to visit us on the fourth day of the Feingold Diet and was upset thinking that I had heavily medicated my daughter because her behavior was totally normal for a child her age!!!!!I explained what I did:exliminating all foods and starting fresh from scratch and slowly reintroducing foods. My daughter has NEVER been medicated for hyperactivity or any behavior disorder. We only fed her what was well tolerated.THIS BOOK IS A MIRACLE TO OUR LIVES!!!!!!!From 1985 to today has been a wonderful experience with my daughter!!!!!!She has been very successful in school (including college), sports, popular, and a pleasure to be around!!!!!This is the complete truth.I hope that other parents will take the time to get the book for the child who is "uncontrollabe, hyperactive, or unfocused" and follow it!The initial few weeks are difficult but it is worth every ounce of energy utilized!!!!!Please, for your sanity and your child's acceptance get and practice Dr. Feingold's methods to your child's life; it works!!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Worth reading
This book does come off as a bit redundant but that's what it takes to really get the message across; after all, this guide doesn't teach you tricks on how to get your kids to eat, it teaches the PARENTS how to feed properly. Therefore, redundancy is essential. I can't honestly say that I am "generous" with salt or fat but I support Ellyn Satter's attitude towards these issues. Pressure or restriction in ANY area typically causes rebellion. This book isn't just about feeding, it's about educating our children by changing our own attitudes.

5-0 out of 5 stars From food struggles to pleasant meals in 2 days
Two days is all it took for us to go from a struggle with our 15-month old at EVERY meal, to having happy, pleasant family meals where our toddler actually eats a variety of foods.

My Dr. recommended this book to me when my daughter was seven months old, and it saved me from going down some very dangerous roads!

2-0 out of 5 stars There are better books out there
OK -- I should start out by saying I'm not a college student. I'm a 44-year-old who's always struggled with my weight and read just about every diet book ever written. So, although much of the advice is good, I've seen almost all of it before. But I think what bugged me most is that the book is very repetitious and padded -- she gives the same tips and the same "Friends" and "Foes" food lists over and over, and if there's one thing that drives me nuts, it's a padded book! There's lots of white space and big colored blocks, too.The useful info could have been condensed down to about 25 pages. Also, I think some of her natural/ herbal rememdies are bogus.Echinacea was recently proven to be absolutely worthless in fighting colds -- and I think those test results were printed over a year ago, before this book went to press. She also makes magical claims for grapefruit and herbal teas, none of which I think are true.I'm surprised that a doctor's daughter would include this stuff.
5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Dorm Room Diet - Solid Lifestyle Approach for All Really
Oz talks sense. From the first chaper, I was hooked. She suggested making a minor change for the first week. I cut back on one soft drink per day - from 3 down to 2. That was quite painless. I also took her starter tips - drink water before meals and don't eat closer than 2 hours before bedtime. Again, those were minor and didn't crimp my style.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, well-researched, the only book you need!
I can't praise this book enough in terms of its accuracy, density of valuable information and practicality. It says everything that needs to be said concisely and addresses the "gotchas" of going vegan.
5-0 out of 5 stars More than just a cookbook
If you're just starting out with your new vegetarianism, this book is your guide. If you aren't vegetarian yet, this book will tell you how and why to do it. But it won't shove a veggie agenda down your throat; it presents the good and bad aspects of carnivorous, vegetarian and vegan diets fairly. If you're a vegetarian gone astray -- you don't eat meat, you just eat chips and junk instead -- this book will get you back on track.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for the beginner or long-time vegetarian
I bought this book when I first decided to become vegetarian when my chemistry professor recommended it to me, and I could not be more relieved that I had this book for the first months of vegetarianism. This book tackles common myths associated with being vegetarian (like you won't get enough protein or iron), hits on every essential nutrient and how to incorporate it into your diet and why each nutrient/vitamin is so important, tells you how to handle those awkward social moments of first announcing, "I'm a vegararian!", has a nutritional needs analysis for every stage of life (from pregnancy, infancy, teens, and senior years), and even includes a few great and simple recipes designed by the same nutritionists that write the book (the banana-walnut pancakes are my absolute favorite!).This book is a must-have for any vegetarian who wants to be well-nformed about the vegetarian decission, and for those who want to develope or fine-tune a healthy diet. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Greattoolforhealth!
This is a value filled book. We consider it a needed reference book in our kitchen. It has a huge amount of nutritional information. We had to have it as a reference book after discovering it at the library.Plus, Amazon.com has it for the best $ value as well!

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost Baked
To be a reference, a book must have a decent index! So many publishers overlook this point. Having read through volumes of data, I remembered seeing interesting points but had a devil of a time locating them again. I had to literally leaf through the book a second time with sticky notes. Don't count on using this book as a reference. Do count on it for comprehensive nutritional information. (Just parse the dogma.) It is the best book I've read to date on nutrition: readable, thorough and pragmatic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lead a lifestyle of health and well-being through nutrition
I have read the first edition prior to this one and it was such an informative book that I bought myself the second edition.Researching nutrition for years, I must say this has to be my favorite out of all other nutrition books I've encountered.Of course each book has its own purpose and flavor, but if you want a good entry book into health and overall well-being (for yourself and/or your family) driven by nutrition, this is the one you need.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for experienced runners!
I was looking for a book to help me make better choices with my diet that would help me tone up and energize my runs. This book is geared toward people who used to run and would like to get back to it or people who want to run. I am currently pulling down 30+ miles per week and most of the examples were running 16 miles per week.
3-0 out of 5 stars Still reading
I'm still reading the book but this seems to be a book suited for novice runners or even walkers. The "running" plans described in the book are really plans for walking and walking/running. When you have gotten to where you are running, she leaves you hanging.
5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for
I wanted a simple plan to follow with simple tips to help me feel my strongest when running and this book was perfect for that. It's also great for anyone who runs and may want to lose a few pounds. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this CD
I've only used this CD for a week but I know it's working. My cravings for sweets and potato chips are gone. If you knew me you would know how big a deal this is for me.Aside from that, the CD is wonderful for relaxing the body. I've reccomended it to several family members, they are just waiting for their copy to arrive. you can use this CD for many things you would like to change in your life. you just have to have the desire to do so. Expect change and it will happen.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless and Ineffective
I'm embarassed to have purchased this. I tried it and it has no effect.

5-0 out of 5 stars Take Controlof your Eating
I've been listening to the CD's for three weeks and there have been a lot of changes for me in how I approach food and eating.I have tried to control my emotional eating for years and now for the first time I can. I feel like I am in control and not always thinking about food. My appetite is under control as well and I'm losing weight.I love knowing I can put on my headphones and get the support I'll need.I don't don't know how it works, I just know that for the first time I "feel" really differently about food, eating and how that should naturally work in my life. I recommend these CD's to anyone struggling with a weight problem, poor self-

2-0 out of 5 stars Needs a more clear diet section, this was not worth buying
I have read on Hypothyroid and this is not the book I was looking for, as to help me to speed up my metabolism.I would like to find a book that just is plain and gives examples of diets and foods to eat.Disappointed....

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for info, not all of it worth following
I was so excited to get this book and I read it like a bible. I tried many of the things that Shoman suggests. Some work, some don't. I think that's her point--it's all about trial and error for us hypothyroid people and what works for me may not work for you. She merely provides as much info as she's gathered about what's worked for some people. I'm glad I read it--not many of the things worked for me, but it helped me understand my condition better. Recipes weren't great--rather plain. I've been doing Sonoma for a couple of months and have lost 20 pounds--much happier with that diet and it's working! Sonoma fits the guidelines Shoman sets out very well. Worth trying
