3-0 out of 5 stars TOO COMPLICATED
WAY TOO COMPLICATED DIET TO FOLLOW
5-0 out of 5 stars common sense or not?
I lost 5lbs the first 2 weeks. I regularly eat very heathy, but need to exercise more(or at all), so i was suprised that i lost the 5lbs just from eating a little healthier and have managed to keep it off. I think it is a good book if you are interested in learning better eating habbits, if you eat poorly. Alot of it is common sense about portion size and eating the right foods for your body to function properly. I don't think you need all the suppliments that she wants you to take, a good multivitamin doesn't hurt though. I didn't follow through after the two weeks because of my schedule, but i do plan to give the rest of it a shot. I think if you need something to jump start you to eat healthy and get rid of all the junk you eat than this is a good way to go. If you really like your junk food than this book is not for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ann Gittleman is great.
This doc really knows her stuff. While you might need to have a high IQ and time to digest.... She is very very informative.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE NEW GLUCOSE GENERATION SHOPPERS GUIDE
EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR.VERY INFORMATIVE AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND

4-0 out of 5 stars More U.S. Products
Readers frustrated by the lack of information on common U.S. -based foods in some earlier editions will be pleased with this updated listing. Mostly generalized foods ("graham crackers, plain") and some U.S. brand names ("Snickers bar, regular") are included with glycemic index, common serving size, available carboyhdrate (carbs-fiber) per serving, and glycemic load per serving.
1-0 out of 5 stars Of little value
I bought this book with "The new Glucose Revolution: Low GI Guide to Diabetes." Compared with the other book, getting this one was superfluous as both books contain essentially the same information (I don't know if this is the case for all books of the series). The guts of both books consists of a table of GI values, total carbs and GL per serving. This table is preceded by a short introduction and discussion, and then followed by another table of food classes with individual items ranked by low, medium and high GI values. Both books have these features, but I did notice some differences in GI values given for the same food item between both books. Why is this? Was there originally an error made in one book and corrected in this one (this book was published later)?

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars this does work!
I was feeling a little lost when I started this diet. I have done them all: Atkins, Thurmond, Weight Watchers, and so on. You get the picture. They all work, but with the exception of Weight Watchers, they all got boring or were intolerable. How long can one go without one's favorite foods? Also, at middle age and female I found it harder to shed the pounds, even with my 5 days of cardio. I started this diet about 8 weeks ago and I really like it. I have lost 16 pounds and still loosing. Moreover, because you eat every three hours I don't find that I am hungry. The best part is I can still incoporate my favorite foods on this plan. I really find this one doable. The best part is I find myself in situations where I eat out a lot. With this plan, that too, can be done. The only area for improvement, at least for me, is he does not stress the exercise aspect in the book or indicates only 8 minutes will do. I do much more than 8 minutes daily, which I believe is necessary for weight loss and good health. However, overall, I really like this way of eating and will continue to do so once I reach my goal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Way of Life... Not another Diet
If you are looking for a way of life instead of another diet, I suggest you read this book.Since being on the program 6 weeks, I am down 16 lbs.I eat every 3 hours, which includes 3 balanced meals, 2 snacks (I suggest the 3 Hour Diet Bars), and a treat.I find I don't have the lose of energy half way through my day and feel much, much better.Because I am never starving, I can easily walk past temptations without giving it a second thought.I perfer an apple over a brownie these days! This from a former junk food junkie!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Not another diet book.
This is an excellent book that deals with the reasons why people overeat, not just another diet. Most people do not overeat because they're hungry. This book actually teaches people what hunger feels like again. It also incorporates good nutrition and increased activity.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm Losing Weight and I'm Not On A Diet!
I would give this book 10 stars if I could! I had done every diet known to man, and I lost weight, but I kept putting it back on.I realized that "diets" don't work for me.I had completly given up any hope for attaining a lean figure. How could I live without Starbucks Mocha Chip ice cream in my life? Then I read "Am I Hungry" and my life is turned around!Michelle's easy step-by-step methods have taught me how to understand my hunger and eating cycles, and also how to give my body what it needs and wants.I have lost 16 pounds in a few short months and I get to eat ice cream, too!All I need to ask myself is "Am I Hungry?".

5-0 out of 5 stars Hope for Overeaters!
This book has changed how I look at food! The hands-on, practical strategies presented in this book make sense and are definitely attainable. Each chapter is broken into sections that help develop intuitive, intentional, instinctive eating skills; teach us how to learn to move our bodies again; and how to make healthyfood choices, empowered with a knowledge base of what we really need to fuel our bodies! This is a powerful program, no shame or guilt and all food fits! So take charge of your life and your health, you can do it! I also highly recommend the seminars! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars LISTEN!!! for anyone who read the reviews about Dr. Young's lack of cred
This book is full of amazing health advice that, for the most part you already knew (you just didn't know exactly why it was healthy). Yes this diet, if followed word for word is difficult. WHO SAYS YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW ANYTHING WORD FOR WORD. Fundamentalist religious people don't even follow their book of choice word for word. Take what works for you and make it work for you. Super hydration, and green supplements are essential for our malnutritioned society. Eat more green vegetables. Eat higher water rich foods. Lower your intake of refined sugars (and fruit juice that averages 50 grams of sugar per serving!). Are these pieces of advice that need credential backing. Listen, If you asked ten ivy-league educated doctors their opinion on any given health issue, you would get ten different answer, maybe more depending on what drug company they are more closely linked to. BE LOGICAL. The majority of this book is irrefutable. The rest, as with any new theory you'll have to exercise faith. Which, by the way is what you're constantly doing with western medicine.

5-0 out of 5 stars change your life
With the changes today in how we view our health, this book is great. The need to understand how we can control our own health is without so many drugs and is within these pages.

5-0 out of 5 stars a PH Miracle for life
I have been following this program for 2 1/2 years. I was dealing with numerous health challenges, some quite serious. I started this, quit drinking coffee, soda, eating meat and have never looked back. My extreme acidreflux was gone in a matter of days. I lost 28 pound in just under 3 months, my rosacea I have suffered with for 5+ years is completely gone. I have strangers tell me how beautiful my skin looks and I no longer have flare ups, I get facials, peels and go in the sun! My liver and digestive system are working again! This program may sound complicated, but it is not. It is the simplicity of it that makes it work. And puts all the responsibility in your hands for your health. I have fired my Doctor!

Editorial Review

"We have been trying to feed our hurting, longing hearts with physical food," writes Gwen Shamblin, registered dietician and founder of the Weigh Down program, which emphasizes "God's power--not 'will power.'" This book offers instruction on how to eat only when physically hungry, how to "nourish the soul with a relationship with God," and how not to confuse different hunger urges. The diet plan teaches you not to overeat by letting you eat exactly what you want, but much less of it. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Appetite control book
This book is all about controlling your appetite. Stop eating when you are full. This book is written from a Christian perspective with also recommends prayer and diet as part of your spriritual life. The author recommends eating only the best part of your meal and leave what you do not want on your plate. The most important principle of all this book teaches is STOP EATING WHEN YOU ARE FULL. This one principle alone boils down what has caused our obesity epedemic in this country, not knowing what it feels like to be full. The author teaches you what hunger feels like and how to use it to guide you eating. This is a huge part of the weight loss puzzle, I would also recommend the following that taught me how to lose 60 pounds and keep it off:
1-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware -- Wolf in Sheep's Clothing
If it were possible to give an author zero stars, I would have. This book is seriously flawed for two reasons:
1-0 out of 5 stars BEWARE
I was doing the new change series and felt something wasn't right.Found out on the internet it's a cult all the way. This book is the mildest of all her teachings.Let me tell you if you don't do it her way you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. It's all so subtle when you sit there week after week and watch the dvd's it's all about her and her son and so subtle Remnant Fellowship the only called out ones. You'd better get in the arch or you are not the true followers of the Lord.Well Gwen we are saved by Grace through faith,it's a gift from God,not of works so no one can boast! That's all she does is boast how sinless or tries to be sinless she is and her perfect Remnant.I have been talking to several people that she has judge and judged hard and it makes me sick! Just look up on the internet type in Gwen Shamblin and you will judge for yourself what this Weighdown teaching is all about.Judge not least you be judge and why do you look at the speak in your brothers eye when all the time you have a log in your own eye?I never heard anything about God's Grace it's all twisted scripture. There's fruit all right in these peoples lives well other cults have fruit too! And the really overweight people if they are totally honest with you they starved themselves to get the rest of their weight off.JUST BEWARE!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE Diet!
Dr. Gallands book was recommended to me by a friend and I decided to give it a try because I was at my wits end with all the diets out there.I had tried Weight Watchers, South Beach...etc, and always lost a few pounds but gained them back and then some. After following Dr. Gallands diet for 10 days, I had lost 11 pounds. My skin actually felt smoother and my energy levels went sky high!2 months later I am down 20 pounds and have no intention of stopping. The recipes are easy, the foods are delicious and my cravings for refined sugar and flour are completely gone. I now look forward to snacking on fresh fruits and vegetables and I can even go out to restaurants and choose healthy, delicious foods.I don't look at it as a diet anymore, I look at it as a lifestyle change. This will be the last diet book you will ever buy.Trust me, If I could do it, anyone can!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Fat Resistance Diet by Leo Galland, M.D.
The Fat Resistance Diet by Leo Galland, M.D. explains how important curing inflammation is to our over all health and how to do it with food, the side effect of this type of diet is weight loss. The book has daily meal plans, recipes, including a shopping list and lists of healthy food. The Fat Resistance Diet has exercises for stress reduction and to strengthen the torso for flexibility, which improves posture. Leo Galland, M.D. gives the reader the newest medical information and a step-by-step plans on how to become healthier. I highly recommend this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fat Resistance Diet
While the book was easy to read, preparing the food is quite time consuming if cooking is not something you really enjoy.Convenience foods aren't anywhere on this diet.Everything is fresh and requires lots of chopping. For the most part, my husband and I like the foods. However, during the first two weeks of the diet I felt that I was constantly Shopping for products, Preparing food, Eating food, or Thinking about preparing the food!!! It was stressful! And after all of that work I only lost two pounds in the first two weeks. The author says you will loose six to ten pounds in the first two weeks.I've kept up the diet (four weeks now) and it has gotten easier to prepare the foods.I have lost a total of four pounds now.The biggest change for me is cooking breakfast. In the past I typically ate cold cereal and a piece of fruit. This diet requires that one set aside time to prepare omelets and frittatas for the morning meal. While time consuming (if you are in a rush in the mornings) these breakfasts taste very good!In these four weeks I've tried some new foods. I am eating foods that are good for my health.Just wish I had lost more weight by now.I only wanted to loose 10 pounds. I intend to continue this diet. ... Read more

It has been 28 years since I was diagnosed with Celiac.Back then there was little information and fewer products available for living gluten-free.Reading this book would have been very helpful to me then, and I may have been spared much of the problems I encountered along the way.Even the Dr. who determined my disease made the error of telling me that after the villi had repaired themselves, I should try gluten again!

Greens consumed in this form are easy to take in and make the cravings go away, the mood swings go away, the hair thick, and the skin smooth and firm. The greens also pump you with energy, and amazingly cause weight loss, even when you consume as many calories as before.I cannot sit still because of my renewed vitality, and my best friend who also drinks the green stuff just did her mountain bike trail ride in record time.Victoria just might solve the healthcare crisis--I am serious. I am a happy primate who is finally consuming my native diet-- and I salute Victoria Boutenko for her free thinking and this great contribution to human wellness.

I really enjoyed reading "Green for Life." I am a raw vegan. But I found that anyone, whether they are raw or not, would get some great information out of this book. She does a great job of explaining 1)why greens are so important, 2) how to incorporate more greens into anyone's diet, and 3) why green smoothies are an optimal way to get more greens into the diet. Easy read with great information for anyone! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Thorough, but not an everyday "users guide" to fats & oils
Enig's discussion is thorough, and a necessary correction to the nutrition science and food industy's deceptions concerning fats and cholesterol, all in the service of marketing transfat-laden food. However, the book is not that "user-friendly" for the non-scienfically-inclined, who are concerned about eating and health.
5-0 out of 5 stars Know Your Fats, EAT Your Fats
This is a great source of information on fats and oils, and even though I also have "Nourishing Traditions" and "Eat Fat, Lose Fat," I still felt that I learned something new. My health certainly has improved since I've incorporated more saturated fat in my diet.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most *essential* book on the nature of fats by a true scientist
Ignore the anonymous "reader"'s review titled "Disappointing." Anonymous reviews immediately create a suspect impression. For all anyone might know, the "reader" could be a well-known other "author" of a popular book on fats. The "reader" in his review does not come up with a cohesive enough overview on why Dr. Enig's book is "disappointing." He complains of issues that has nothing to do with Dr. Enig's research as a scientist, how the chemical structures and patterns of fatty acids *and* most importantly, how they work in the human body. He does not prove in any way of how Dr. Enig's knowledge of lipid chemistry fails. His assertion that the fatty acids in animal fat has changed from 100 years ago is a no-brainer and a plainly dumb arguing point: of course the quality of the fatty acids have changed, because most of the way animals are raised today is so different from how they were 100 years ago: conditions, feeding, and treatment. The only way one may compare a cow from 100 years ago is to raise them on pastures, in organic methods. It is a self-evident factor that we should only be eating animals raised naturally, out of warehouses, without synthetic injections.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a real life-changer!
I've tried them all, every diet that is. Not only have I tried a lot of diets to lose weight, I've also worked with other books on eating to control inflammation. This is a great approach. I feel and look the best I've felt in years. The proof has been in testing the foods in my own body. I feel MUCH better and I'm finally losing weight after 2 years of chronic fatique and puzzling weight-gain in spite of eating a healthy diet and taking a lot of the right supplements. You can use the tables to change your current eating and food purchasing habits if following the diet plan isn't for you. That's what I did and it worked like a charm. I own a fitness club and am very familiar with everything out there. This is a gem. Buy it and use it. Eliminate the more inflammatory foods you currently eat and spike your diet with powerful anti-inflammatory foods and see what happens!

4-0 out of 5 stars Take it on faith, it might help.
I purchased this book because I knew that inflammation theory has a lot of credibility with Andrew Weil and some others in the medical community at present.A limitation of the book is that the reader is not told in any detail how the inflammation index that is so central to the plan is derived.Taking it on faith, I tried it and it did reveal some things: for example, a personal preference for fruit and whole-grains over vegetables that almost certainly was not an entirely good thing. It does give you a way to quantify those kinds of things, and it would be hard to imagine how it could be misused unless someone tried to slather huge quantities of anti-inflammatory curry and ginger on top of an unhealthy diet. All in all, a provocative book that doesn't contradict common-sense good principles of diet and will likely improve your diet and make you healthier if you take the trouble to do the math. Also, the recipes are good.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good dietary recommendations, but not quite the whole picture
This book offers up sound dietary advice.Foods are rated according to a formula that predicts how inflammatory they are to your body. The formula is not specified, although the factors that are considered are listed.I would have liked more information as to how much weight was given to the various nutrients and why. Information not contained in the USDA food database wasn't included in the formula. Therefore, a number of factors, such micronutrients, pesticide residues, etc. are not addressed. The inflammatory effects of eating charbroiled foods or deep fried foods are not discussed. This is an interesting attempt at quantifying the anti-inflammatory and inflammatory qualities of most common foods, and for the most part is quite helpful. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Most interesting food writer since Jean Carper
Almost two decades ago, Jean Carper revolutionized my thinking about food with her well researched book, "The Food Pharmacy," a fascinating treatise on the health-promoting properties of foods.Since then there have been innumerable self-appointed food gurus, most of whom struck me as primarily self-promotional and thin on scientific backing. While I do continue to consider Nina Planck's iconoclastic food theories with the proverbial grain of salt, I think she has done an enormous service for the health-conscious reader by approaching the entire topic of foods, and particularly the controversial issue of dietary fats, with a fresh and relatively unbiased eye.She has assembled an impressive body of research to support her assertions regarding grass-fed meat and dairy products, and touches on many other important topics, such as the importance of Omega-3 fatty acids to the developing fetus.New to me was the research regarding the importance of lauric acid, a key component of coconut oil, as a health-promoting fatty acid.I remain skeptical about a few of her assertions, and I also partially disagree with her largely anecdotal criticism of the vegetarian diet. However, she has opened my mind to some very new approaches to food and nutrition.Additionally, she has brought the sensual pleasure of food back into focus as an integral component of healthy eating. After reading this book, you will believe more than ever the old adage that "You are what you eat" -- you'll just regard what you eat in an entirely new light!

5-0 out of 5 stars Who knew!
I was looking to learn more about healthy eating and I ran across this book at the library.I was fairly sceptical at first but as I kept reading everything she was saying it all was starting to fit together and make sense. She quotes study after study in her book which helps give foundation to her ideas. The thing that really got me about this book is that it is common sense to eat food in thier more natural "unprocessed" state. We are so used to processed food in this age Nina Planck tells us how to know what traditional foods are and what industrial foods are.If you would like to get information about what you are eating and how it might be affecting you, and how to eat to maximize all nutrients available in your food this book is perfect for you. Also, it is delicious and revitalizing to eat this way!

5-0 out of 5 stars Food for Thought
I checked this book out of the local library, and after extending the loan twice purchased my own copy on Amazon. It is thought provoking and a little disturbing when you consider how very different today's diet is from fifty years ago. After reading Real Food I talked with my sixty-something year old mother about how her family ate during her childhood. It seems that in gaining convenience and product consistency we have lost character and nutritional value in many foods.I have made some changes in the way I am feeding my family and I do find very real differences in the products I buy at the local rural (farmers')market.Nina Planck is a thoughtful guide toward a different way of eating.A nicely written and informative book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Delicious foodstuffs but not 100% raw
While I certainly agree with previous reviewers that Cornbleet's recipes make some fantastic dishes (I like her chocolate mousse far better than the dairy-laden original), confirmed raw foodists should be forewarned that many of Cornbleet's recipes include non-raw ingredients. While an experienced "rawie" will know, for instance, that maple syrup is not raw, someone new to raw foodism may not. Unfortunately, detailed and informative though Cornbleet's directions and auxiliary information are, she often doesn't identify cooked ingredients when calling for them in recipes. Had she done a better job identifying cooked ingredients and perhaps suggesting raw alternatives, I'd rate this book a 5++ without a doubt. It's a superb transitional book, however, or a great choice for someone such as I've become who merely wants to eat varied raw meals more often.
5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book!
I started eating raw four months ago, have lost 22 pounds and feel great!Eating raw is a challenge, but this wonderful book really does help to make it easy.I use recipes from it at least a few times a week - the ingredients are readily available, the instructions are simple and the results are delicious! In addition, this book has been a great source of information and inspiration for me in making the switch to a raw diet.I admire Jenny Cornbleet's determination and commitment to helping others learn raw food and hope that she has more raw recipe books in the works!

4-0 out of 5 stars Raw food cuisine can be intensely flavorful and pleasurable, and fun.
ennifer Cornbleet book: Raw Food Made Easy For 1 or 2 People is your guide to quick and easy and inexpensive meals that focus on fruits and vegetables. She provides quick references to all recipes (which are all easy to make and don't rely on obscure foods.) She will also teach you raw food preparation and how to plan menus that take more time planning than they do preparing. (In other words, her recipes are quick and easy to prepare:-)
