5-0 out of 5 stars How to CURE "mental illness"
I have been researching the drug industry and psychiatry over the past year and have attended a Harvard Medical School seminar to see what is being taught concerning psychopharmacology. What I have learned is that for generations, orthomolecular physicians like Dr. Philpott have been curing mental illness by recognizing that brain malfunctions are caused by medical problems such as thyroid, kidney, and sleep disorder problems, an immune disorder cerebral allergy, metal toxicity, Candida infestation and enzyme and nutritional imbalances such as essential fatty acids deficiency (malnourishment). Biochemical testing can assist in determining underlying causes. Even Harvard's Dr. Stoll, who receives compensation from about ten different drug companies, recommends fish oil to provide essential Omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins as an effective treatment for depression.
5-0 out of 5 stars Really helped a lot!
This book was very helpful in explaining what was going on with my daughter's dairy allergy. Now I finally have some confirmation of what I have been observing and know what to do to help her.
5-0 out of 5 stars Revolutionary
As a Chinese herbal practitioner, I have recommended this book to several clients who have autistic children. In almost every case, there has been a marked improvement in the child's situation. The book details not only thescience and theory behind Dr. Philpott's approach, but more importantlyspends a lot of time discussing practical implementation.Conventionalwestern medicine still tends to ignore the dramatic impact our diets canhave on the mental/emotional aspect of our lives; BRAIN ALLERGIES makes avery significantcontribution to the growing literature around the old andvery true proverb: "we are what we eat."If you're dealing witha child with emotional and/or cognitive difficulties, PLEASE read thisbook! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Better than nothing, but not the best
When we first found out our daughter had multiple food allergies we bought this book after getting tons of great info from FAAN.(FAAN is a wonderful resource, everyone dealing with food allergies should join.)
5-0 out of 5 stars nice selection of recipes
Easy to make recipes and a wide selection. So far, every recipe I've tried has been good. As with any allergy cook book, there will be recipes using an item you may have an allergy to. In some cases they give substitutions for various ingredients to a particular recipe.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great cookbook even for people without foode allergies!
This cookbook has very imaginative, easy recipes that are better tasting than what you find in many standard cookbooks. While I agree with the reader who calls it a "dessert cookbook", preparing main courses for someone with food allergies is much easier, ie I don't cook fish dishes because my daughter has a fish allergy. However finding baking recipes without eggs or nuts is much more difficult. This book does an excellent job and you never feel as though you are compromising. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Complete Guide to Yeast
This book is packed with information on yeast overgrowth, symptons, rememdies, and meal plans. I found it very helpful in learning what yeast does to your body, how you develop candida, and how to stop the cycle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Help, finally!
This book has been a lifesaver for me!After 7 years of suffering from a myriad of symptoms, going from doctor to doctor, with no resolution to my problems, I finally got some relief after reading this book. Little did I know, all my symptoms were related to one root cause: systemic candidiasis. After doing some research on the internet, I was led to this book.I had seen several recommendations for it, and excellent reviews. This book will help you to confirm what is happening in your body, and give specific steps you can take to start treating yourself to feel better.I have been putting Dr. Crook's suggestions into practice for a little over a month now and I feel so much better! So far, I have only been able to use homeopathic remedies - no prescription drugs - and have noted a marked improvement in my general health and well-being. I highly recommend this book to anyone who suspects they have a systemic yeast infection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good place to start
I agree, to a point, with the reviewers who didn't find this book to have all the answers, BUT like another reviewer pointed out, this should be just one of the books in your library. I have suffered from candida for more than 20 years. If the reviewer who claimed that candida was invented by the author had suffered from it, then (s)he would know that it is very real and can be, for some people, debilitating. I suggest you check this book out of the library before you buy it. If you are well versed in this disease, then you might not want to buy it... but if you are just starting your research, you'll find a lot of answers in here. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book For Your ADD Child!
This is a great book to help children with ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, learning disabilities, autism, etc. I have seen some dramatic changes happen in children with these disorders in Dr. Devi's office. These NAET treatments work well on these children.Because they all have the same common problem: ALLERGIES.5-0 out of 5 stars Say Good-Bye To ADD And ADHD

5-0 out of 5 stars The Book That Started it All
Dr. Crook was one of the first to write about CFS,this book does have cartoons which make it easier to understand. This book changed/saved my life. My daughter & I were diagnosed in 1983(a rarity in itself back then)and told "good news is, yes there is something wrong with you. Bad news is there really isn't a standard drug or treatment. Except expensive immunoglobin therapy that your insurance won't cover since they don't really recognize CFS as an illness!" I didn't get the book until 1990 and read it from cover to cover the first night. Remember no real internet then and GNC carried vitamins and body building supplements, no St.Johns Wort, forget Acidopholous and CoQ10 sounded like a Star Wars character.THANKS TO DR. CROOK these things plus many others in the book made a complete difference in my health. Yes the other books listed are more informative, they were published later. If you can still find this one read it first. P.S. I was searching AMAZON because my 2nd copy is now so tattered and covered with notes from people I've loaned it to that it resembles a high school yearbook complete with heartfelt comments:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Information
This book had extremely helpful information for those suffering from symptoms that relate to Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The author gives practical advice and explains the cause of often misunderstood symptoms such as itching, headaches, nausea, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, etc.If you are suffering from CFS, Fibromyalgia, or allergy symptoms, I highly recommend this book. This book was far easier to read and understand than many books on the topic. It also address overconsumption of sugar as a problem, which many authors are reluctant to address.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
I've read other Yeast Connection books and they were much better than this one. The book has an over abundance of cartoons used for illustration and instruction, so much so that they are extremely distracting and make it very difficult to read. All of the information covered in this book can be read in the Yeast Connection Handbook and others. It basically repeats other books and adds too many cartoons to fill in the pages. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Healthy Gluten-Free Cooking
Absolutely worthless. I've tried several recipes in this book and they are so confusing. The ingredients will be measured in cups, but the directions will say pints. So which is it? Cups or Pints? The dry ingredients are measured in cups and in parenthesis it will be ounces, but the ounces aren't the equivalent of the cups. I really wish they would have made up their minds before putting this book together.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally!
Finally, a Gluten-Free Cookbook that is beautiful as well as helpful. These aren't recipes that look good considering that they're gluten-free, these are recipes that just look good. Highly recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Really great book - Thoroughly recommend!
My daughter, who is now four, has had egg, nut and dairy allergies since birth.Like the authors son, she was also allergic to my breast milk.I thought I knew it all when it came to providing meals/baking for her, but when I saw this book for sale I thought I'd buy it for interest and in a strange way to support the author who's been through what we have been (are are going) through.Well, I am really impressed and am very grateful to the author for writing it.I have tried 2 recipes which came out fabulously (blueberry muffins and banana muffins) and have the carrot cake baking in the oven while I type!! It look and smells like a success already!Other recipes I've tried for banana muffins have turned out a stodgy gooey lump, but the authors recipe for these were really lovely.Light, distinct pieces of banana and with a really pleasing golden crust which can be quite hard to achieve without eggs or dairy!I'm very happy and would easily serve these up to non-allergic visitors without needing to explain why they aren't quite up to scratch compared to a 'normal' muffin! The recipes use simple, storecupboard ingredients, and apart from a few recipes which use products not available in New Zealand (for eg milk-free whipped topping) I shall be working my way thru this book!A big thank to the author for this one!! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This recipe book is great for my child. He's allergic to wheat, soy, milk, eggs, and peanuts and this cookbook provides all kinds of recipes without his allergy triggers.I would highly recommend it for Moms with kids like mine.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the Best Allergy Cookbook If You Can Eat Wheat
For those people who can eat wheat, I would not reccommend this cookbook.I purchased it shortly after my son was diagnosed with multiple food allergies (wheat was not one). The recipes call for lots of ingredients that I do not normally purchase or have on hand (xanthan gum, tapioca flour, brown rice flour, potato starch, etc.).

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous--It Really Works!
Not only do the recipies come out well, but this book has a glossary of different flours and foods that can be used to substitute for more common foods. If you are new to learning to cooking and baking for food allergies (as I am), you will find this information accessible and invaluable.I bought a few books as soon as we realized how severe my son's food allergies are.In the end, I've only used this one so far. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Hidden Food Allergies
As a middle-aged allergy patient, my allergist recommended this book to me because I'm always getting sick with colds and other infections. The book, Your Hidden Allergies Are Making You Fat, is not just about dieting, but contains a wealth of information about how food sensitivities can negatively affect your whole body and your life. My allergist, with over thirty years of experience with patients, said, "This is the best book I've read about hidden food allergies."I agree. It explains, in easy to understand terms, the science of allergic reactions to foods, how to deal with symptoms, and best of all, it thoroughly describes a simple blood test, the ALCAT test. This test identifies your food intolerances, so that you can develop an individualized eating plan to help lose weight or feel better/get well from illnesses.
1-0 out of 5 stars I'm returning it
I am so disappointed in this book, I am returning it. My primary reason? The authors keep mentioning 100 trigger foods that the ALCAT tests for, yet they never provide this list. Why not? Because this book is simply a marketing vehicle to get people to order the test through their lab.

5-0 out of 5 stars 30 years of Stomach Ailments Cured overnight
Doctors told me that I did not have a "disease" and so they could not help me.I had IBS(Irritable Bowel Syndrome) everyday. Before I could leave for work, I took over the counter help-3 times the normal dose. That did not include what I needed throughout the rest of the day.I did not even mention to the doctors about the acid reflux EVERY night.I thought it was mild compared to the agony and embarrassment that I suffered of the irritable bowel syndrome. There was nothing regular physicians could or would do.The Al-Cat test (and Dr. Rivera) saved my life. When the digestive system breaks down so will the immune system eventually.Since the day I began avoiding the foods I am allergic to and following the prescribed new way of eating, I have had NO acid reflux.I have been free of IBS for nearly 10 months straight.(Only occassional boughts of it before that.)I have lost 60 pounds total.I feel great.I am in the best shape of my life at age 52.I feel 30.(My husband enjoys the change.)Reading the book won't change anything. But following its suggestions and reccommendations could save your life! ... While a lot of the material in this book is necessarily duplicated from other books published by D'Adamo in case the reader starts with this book, the real medical assistance offered has been very helpful to me - teaching me to manage my allergies proactively!

5-0 out of 5 stars I Said Good Bye to Illness
What a Godsend and miracle NAET has been in my life.Dr. Nambudripad's credentials are from well known, certified and accredited universities. I was helped so much by her method that I went to Buena Park and took her training.I am now having the time of my life helping others "Say Good Bye to Illness".It is such a "rush" to see my client's and family member's suprise at their improvements.Being a nurse is finally paying off.As a full-time registered nurse in a large metropolitan area I have seen very little in traditional western medicine that does as much for one's health and well-being as NAET.Reading the book is a great idea.Seeking out a certified practitioner is even better. There are 8,000 of us now, world wide.God bless Dr. Devi Nambudripad!!!
