5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Allergy Cookbooks There Is
This is one of the first allergy cookbooks that I purchased, and some of my family's favorite recipes are in it.My son is allergic to milk, egg, soy, peanuts, and tree nuts.We also avoid fish and shellfish. For people avoiding those allergens, this is a very good cookbook; however, there are some recipes that call for soy, fish, and shellfish. We either substitute in those recipes or do not use them.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not a Wheat Free/gluten free book, but good
My son is allergic to all Beans also (Legumes) and Beef so this book only had a few recipes I can use.The Wheat can be replaced with Bette Hagram's Featherlite recipe 1:1 if you can tolerate rice, corn, tapioca starch and potato flour. I'm a tough critic to please since my son's allergies include Dairy, Beef, Soy, Wheat, Peanuts, Treenuts, Gluten Grains, Legumes, Shellfish, Food Dyes, Curry spice, and Cumin.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good source of new baked goods recipes
As the mom of a picky food allergic child (eggs, milk, nuts), I am continually looking for new things to try.I found several good recipes - the waffles are a big hit in my house. Both cakes - the sugar vanilla cake and the white cake - also went over well. The egg replacement of baking powder, oil, and water seems to work very well in baked goods.I am looking forward to trying some of the muffin recipes.I do find the relatively small size of the book makes it hard to use while cooking. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
I suffer from both RA and Ankylosing Spondolitis.I found out through this program that I cannot eat wheat, milk or dairy products, eggs, sugar or coffee. When I'm good at sticking to it, I'm almost in complete remission. When I cheat, I pay for it. Within 20 minutes of consuming one of the above items, my fingers begin to swell and get stiff, and by the next morning I'm in a lot of pain. I have been able to stop taking the Methatrexate and Lodin which were very hard on the liver and destroyed my immune system. This is a really great program and it works if you have the discipline and self motivation to go through it and stick it out. If you are completely lazy and looking for an easy fix, this may not be for you. It's hard!It has been hard for me to give up coffee, Lucky Charms for breakfast, hot chocolate, cookies and some other comfort foods. But in the end I have a lot of new favorites, my inflamation and pain have disappeared, I've lost weight and my skin looks fabulous to boot. God bless Barbara Allan! She's an angel.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for Everyone
Maybe i'm being shortshighted, but i feel as if the many concessions i already have to make with this disease are hard enough to incorporate into my daily life, without also including such intense dietary changes.I work full-time, including travel and client entertainment making it very difficult to always control every morsel i consume.also, don't share the author's background and early diagnosis symptoms.Mine are coming more slowly and i am entrusting my treatment and long-term care to my Rheumy.Sort of wish I had spent the money on a good yoga or meditation tape instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Book for People with Chronic Health Problems
There are a number of books about Food Intolerances that are invaluable to people who have chronic health problems without knowing the cause of their problems.Since physicians are often ignorant in the area of Type III or Delayed Onset Food Intolerance, these books are often the only hope for people to regain their good health and in many cases their lives.Barbara Allen in her book Conquering Arthritis contributes detailed information to the topic that I have not seen in any other book. Her own story is inspiring and her systematic approach to solving her personal health crisis mystery is a blueprint for others to find their personal way back to good health. To her credit she did not only fight and win her own battle with ignorance, pain and deteriorating health but had the drive and compassion to get the message out there to help all of us with her excellent research and conclusions.I was diagnosed with IBS and Fibromyalgia and Arthritis and Insomnia and Chronic Fatigue and CTS and was offered lots of prescription drugs, some of which I took for a while, but nothing helped like avoiding the foods to which I am allergic.Barbara Allen made me aware of hidden additives in foods and vitamins that I needed to stop eating but that I would not have suspected. Thanks for sharing, Barbara Allen!!! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars This looks like fraud
I did this treatment for my son with Autism. We went to a local practitioner and paid about $125 per hour and it did not work.

3-0 out of 5 stars Does NAET work? Evidence to the contrary.
I'll keep this short because the book is well reviewed by others. You must go to a licensed practitioner of this art to receive treatments ... dozens of treatments. If you are persuaded by this book, it will still take your faith in the writer and endorsers to embark on a series of treatments that will take many hours of your time and thousands of dollars - with no warranty expressed or implied, if you know what I mean.

THIS IS NOT A SELF-HELP BOOK as I had thought. As the doctor notes on page xxxv :The framework of this book is drawn from a formal dissertational I submitted as a basis for my doctorate degree"__.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lifesaver Book
In the late '70s, an earlier version of this book changed my two-year old daughters life forever.I believe that then the title phrase was "hypoactive" instead of "hyperactive".I had an adorable, sweet, little girl that would suddenly go into uncontrollable rages.A neighbor happened to be watching the Phil Donahue show and told me about the cookbook that was discussed on the show that day.I bought it on Tuesday and by Saturday I had a new child.I explained to her that certain things were poison to her and that sugar would make her have what we called a "sugar fit".She, at age 2 1/2, became a helper in the process and would refuse any candy, etc. that was offered to her. She's now age 30, and still is careful about intake, staying aware of how foods affect her.She has never, ever had another "sugar fit".I'm looking for the book again for my son's little boy - age 2 1/2 - who has the same symptoms.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Feingold Cookbook for Hyperactive Children
I have followed this cookbooks recommendations since 1983.My son is ADHD and my husband always said if you can't read it don't eat it.It definitely made a differnce in my sons actions and he is now graduating from college and we all still eat much healthier than we would have. The recipes in this cookbook are delicious and I would like to give atleast two of these for Christmas presents and I need one l for myself since whoever borrowed it never returned it to me. They must of liked it too.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a life changing book!
For parents of children who have been labled ODD, ADHD and other hyperactive and behaivor disorders, this book could change your lives.Dr. Fiendgold has come under critism for his ideas concerning the effect ofcemicals in food and their effect on an individuals' nervious systems. When I decided to try Dr. Fiengold's diet I was desperite to help my ODDson and wanted to help him without putting him on drugs. Our whole familytried the diet for six weeks and the results were amazing! Our son isnow 20 and a straight A student at the Univerisity of Wisconsin on a musicscholarship! He still has to follow Dr. Feingold's guidelines for hisdiet, but he is a very delightful and productive young man today and hasnever been on drugs to control his behavior!Thank you DR. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great reading, great recipies!
I don't understand why some reviewers say that this book isn't for all allergies. I have 3 kids with different allergens. I enjoyed the easy "key" at the bottom of each recipe with different substitutions. Some reviewers said they were brainless, I say "give me brainless substitutions!" At the end of the day when I'm making dinner, I need easy, quick, and edible! I like the fact that the book calls for rice flour. I don't like cooking with other gluten free flours because they do taste icky. Like any cookbook that I have, there are recipies that arn't our favorite, but there are many more that we enjoy and use on a daily basis- Have you even tried the flourless chocolate cake, the the lemon cake, the soups, the great snack ideas? Any one who says there is nothing in this book for them, has obviously not read the whole thing. From one mommy to another- Good Job Authors! P.S -Awsome party ideas, our kids classroom loved our cupcakes this year!

2-0 out of 5 stars A gluten-free cookbook passed off as dairy, nut and egg-free.
Many, many recipes in this book call for eggs, nuts, peanuts and milk.My son is allergic to all these but CAN actually eat wheat just fine.I thought this book would have lots of ideas on things I could feed my son.But really it is a gluten-free cookbook which calls for his allergens and then says, "for egg allergies omit eggs", "for nut allergy omit nuts."I could have just bought a gluten-free cookbook and omited eggs and nuts. There would be no difference except that I wouldn't feel frustrated every time I read "omit nuts" and "use soy milk instead of milk" or whatever.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not Impressed
I thought this book was going to be full of great recipes for parents who have kids with food allergies. Some of the recipes tell you "common sense" things; substitute egg with Energ egg replacer, which if you have a child with egg allergies you know that. It has a recipe for Easy Mac that has noodles, butter and a cheese packet. That is the recipe on the macaroni box. Sorry! I feel like I wasted my money. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Digestive issues? Read on...
I thought this book was really helpful for those who are stuggling with their weight or have digestive issues but are unclear why.
2-0 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor
I read this book, and found it to pretty much be a rehash of ideas and theories that have been around the internet and "hypochondriac" community for a while (I say hypochondriac community because that's how most doctors treat us and we're left to go find our own solutions).
5-0 out of 5 stars Easy, useful reference
The book recaps material from other authors, such as Sherry Rogers, M.D. and other experts, in a handy and straight forward way. Having read numerous more complicated books while struggling with fatigue and brain fog, this one was a breath of fresh air (pun intended). It also has significant original material that I had not read elsewhere. All in all, an excellent read. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars So you don't believe us Granola Wackos?
Well, my sister had severe ADHD and Hyperactivity, to the point she was kicked out of a dozen daycares. All we heard was what a horrible kid she was. Finally in 1987 we found Dr. Feingold's book and within weeks she was listening, respecting boundaries and going to sleep at a decent hour.My mother kept her on the diet and each year communicated to her teachers that her behavior was contigent on her diet. If the teacher deviated, he/she would have to accept the consequences.Believe me, one incident of giving her kool-aid or another forbidden food and they did not want to repeat it.Over the years, I have recommended this book to many people.Few have taken the time to do what is necessary to help their children, prefering a quick fix with a "pill."I can assure you, when I have children, they will be on this diet!Oh and my mother was a senior executive at Sprint before retiring, I'd hardly call her a Granola Wacko!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book full of valuable information!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Diaper Lady
I have had this cookbook for a couple of months now and have been able to try numerous recipes. Admittedly, we do not have food allergies, so that is not a concern of ours. But contrary to some other reviewers' statements, the substitutes given for spelt (such as oat) does not make the outcome horrible. We barely even noticed a difference.
5-0 out of 5 stars I would save this book in a fire!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice Book, Could Be so much more
I bought this book since my kids are allergic to Dairy, Nuts and Soy.The recipes seemed good.Although it seemed she was torn between writing a kids cookbook vs. a "Gourmet" recipe cookbook. At age 6, many of the things in here my son would not try. But, I appreciated the snacks and cake recipes; and the sources for some of the ingredients. With an allergic child you are always conscious of trying to make sure they have a balanced diet.It would have been nice if the recipes had listed information on calories, protein, carbohydrate, etc. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me
First of all, I didn't think the book was very well written - it needed much tighter editing. Many points are repeated over and over again, and I found several typos. It is also heavily aimed at Americans with poor diets.
5-0 out of 5 stars "Fatigue of unknown origin" is not a diagnosis
At 29, I suddenly started feeling sick all the time.Doctors tested me for everything under the sun but found nothing. They "diagnosed" me with "Fatigue of unknown origin".By pure chance, I happened upon The Yeast Connection and it explained everything.I followed his diet recomendations and felt better almost immediately.I can't imagine what my life would be like if I hadn't figured out how my diet and lifestyle were making me sick.I have cut out processed food and sugar, and now eat a diet mainly of organic whole vegetables and whole grains and I feel terrific.
5-0 out of 5 stars My Fatigue Explained
If you or someone you know suffers from fatigue, please buy this book.If you know of a child who is autistic or hyper or has learning problems, please buy this book for their parents.Dr. Crook's treatment program is arecommendation of a medicine from a doctor, along with watching what youeat, and other simple measures.Dr. Crook presented an excellent book, full of resources, actual patient scenarios, and changes to implementimmediately. The book can be passed on to anyone's doctor easily becauseDr. Crook explains that he himself is a doctor & states how he becameinvolved treating yeast. He explains the symptoms of yeast overgrowth inthe body, it's causes, and it's cures. The book gives so many cases ofpatients that it's easier to see how one patient's symptoms may differ fromanother's - but be related to your specific problem.I was diagnosed withEpstein-Barr virus and was told by my doctor that only my symptoms could betreated.Epstein-Barr is related to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & I havestrugged with tiredness for years. This book has so helped me.I boughtit on a Friday & am buying it Monday to take to my doctor.I am aborn-again Christian & this book is an answer to my prayer. Please buyit for anyone you know who has suffered with Chronic Fatigue. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Most Complete Allergy Book Out There
As a mother of a child with severe food allergy and a food allergy support group leader, I am so thank ful for this book. I look at it almost every day for tips and guidance. I also recommend it to friends and family. It is the most complete allergy book out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars From Helplessness to Empowerment
My toddler grandson was diagnosed with severe peanut allergies, after a very frightening "first" experience with peanut butter. Since I am involved in his care, I've listened carefully to his parents as they've explained the use of the EpiPen, and how to manage an anaphylactic reaction. I must admit that I once felt a sense of confusion and helplessness. Since reading this book, I feel much more empowered and confident that I will be able to properly manage an emergency situation with him. We now have a family plan, should an emergency arise, as well as signed consent forms, and a step-by-step checklist.

4-0 out of 5 stars Use the philsophy of this book every day but most of the recipes only a few times a week.
I just discovered this book and was really excited to read it. I must say that overall I wasn't disappointed. Her explanations on how we impact our bodies and the earth by the choices we make in food and even in the products we use is truly convincing. Her enthusiasm for food is contageous. The fact that she discusses various eating plans and the philosophy behind each is really wonderful. The amount of good information presented is amazing. That said, I was a little confused about the recipes. I am of Italian heritage so I was raised on olive oil, beans, nuts, grains, etc and continue to make them my basic food choices. But just because nuts and good quality oils have health benefits doesn't mean you can use them with wild abandon. Some of the recipes in this book have way too much fat per serving. Unless you're extremely active I truly can't imagine using most of these recipes on a regular basis and being able to control your weight. For example, there is a recipe for "Massaged Greens". This veg side dish has 11 grams of fat per serving (and only 150 calories). As someone who eats alot of greens, I can say first hand that a drizzle of good quality oil is all that you really need to season greens, anything more and you drown out their flavor. The "Walnut Oatmeal Raisin Cookies" are 400 calories and 21 grams of fat per cookie! To be fair, not all of the recipes are high in fat but the majority are. The other odd thing about many of these recipes are the copius amounts of sodium. Soy sauce (shoyu) seems to be the culprit here. The "Soba Noodle Salad" and the "Soba Noodle Soup" have 3,130 mg and 3,390 mg of sodium per serving respectively. And the above mentioned"Massaged Greens": 960 mg. of sodium per serving. Alot of recipes have 600 mg or higher (although not all recipes are high in sodium). So, I was baffled that Dean Ornish would write the Forward. Unless he's loosened his militant stance on the "proper" way to eat for health, he seemed like the last person who would herald most of the recipes in this tome.So maybe one should use the philosophy of this book every single day but the recipes only a few times a week.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Tips & Ideas On Safely Eating Out With Gluten/Food Allergies!
This book has been very helpful as a mom of a 2 yr old food allergy child. When my daughter was diagnosed with a couple of severe food allergies and many sensitivies, we had not dined out for a while. This book has helped to truly understand what to look out for and how to manage the eating out process. It's easy to use and I was impressed by the tips and knowledge relating to dealing with the specific top 10 allergens when dining out.Not only does it deal with the 10 allergens but relates them to each of the 7 cuisines such as Indian, American Steak and Seafood, French, etc. giving helpful tips on how allergens may be "hidden" or used in preparation that you would never expect. The book helps you to identify these items and communicate effectively with the restaurant staff. In addition, there is also useful information on safely choosing snacks when you are out, travel, etc.The book has helped me gain confidence in dining out as a family again. The book is a great read for those with celiac, food allergies or even parents of children with food allergies!
5-0 out of 5 stars the first of its kind
"Let's Eat Out!" will make you hungry and give you the power to protect yourself from food allergies at the same time. This series is an amazingly comprehensive guide that is sure to help thousands of people to feel more in control of their lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease about a year ago and all the cookbooks I've used so far haven't been very good. So, needless to say, I was skeptical of this book that was getting rave reviews.I must say, this is by far the best gluten-free cookbook I've used.I've baked pumpkin muffins, pumpkin bread, a pizza and a birthday cake and all were wonderful.I'm not sure what Annalise does differently, but the breads are fluffy and rise just like wheat-based breads.I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Real Bread!
I have to share with everyone how WONDERFUL and EXCELLENT are the recipes from Annalise Roberts "Gluten-Free Baking Classics"!
5-0 out of 5 stars Young cook falls in love!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped others as well as myself.
I first purchased this book in the fall of 2002, and proceeded to travel across the country in 2003 to accompany my sister to receive NAET treatments for both of us. Using the techniques, we have been able to help other people to understand the healing benefits of both the NAET treatments for allergies and the Living Pain Free treatments to save from many trips to a doctor or the hospital. Many have requested their own copies of this book, which I was able to acquire for them.
4-0 out of 5 stars Well illustrated and lots of symptoms covered
I recently purchased both this book and "Say Good-Bye to Your Allergies" by the same author. This is the much better book - actual information on treating particular symptoms, rather than an extended apology for her NAET system of allergy treatment. The only thing that I really found more distracting than helpful was the use of medical terms when navigating to particular pressure points.I've read several books on accupressure, and this is the only one that requires a decent knowledge of 'Gray's Anatomy' to understand much of what she is saying. The illustrations go a ways to helping that, but I couldn't escape the feeling that the author was trying to make sure that readers knew she REALLY is a medically trained doctor.5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Self-help book!
This is an excellent self-help book. Page "58" is very helpful to overcome immediate allergic reaction temporarily. On the very first visit, Dr. Mala taught me how to use these points. Every morning when I wake up I massage these points before I get out of bed. That gives me tremendous energy all day along.During my initial NAET treatments, I was advised to massage these points every two hours. That helped me pass my treatments without any unpleasant reactions. I love this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive and responsible discussion
For anyone who suspects they might have food intolerance, this book can help them on the path to wellness. Symptoms, testing and potential avenues of treatment are all discussed. Be forewarned, it can be a complex and daunting task, though worth it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Solid information, very thorough treatment of the subject, great buy
This is the best and most complete consumer book about food intolerances and allergies available.A complete rundown of topics can be found in the table of contents and index so I won't cover that here. Here are some of the things I appreciate most about this book:
5-0 out of 5 stars thorough and clear writing on an important subject
For anyone with difficult, or unexplained illness, this is the book for you. Explains the known correlations between food sensitivity, allergy, and illnesses. This should be of particular interest to those with immune system, or digestive related problems. Highly recommended. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Get a real book
This book was awful.I read "The Sugar Addict's Total Recovery Program" (DesMaisons) first, and I was spoiled by more rational, documented approach to the subject. To be fair, I only got through the first part of this book before I put it down in disgust. This book is the rantings of someone who feels passionately about something.Great.Now back it up.You can't justsay, "This is bad and you have to do this!"Well... I suppose you can.But in my opinion that makes for a lousy book for someone who is trying to learn and separate fact from hysteria.

5-0 out of 5 stars ENLIGHTENING!!!
This is a WONDERFUL and ENLIGHTENING work!Thank you for compiling this information and for sharing your own personal experience with Sugar Addiction Nancy Appleton . I have an interest in sugar addiciton and it's affects on the human body and found your book to be a great learning source.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unconvincing personal vendetta
Nancy Appleton has clearly declared her personal agenda against sugar, but her lack of objectivity, organization, credibility, or substance leave much to be desired in this book.I was frustrated by the constant repetition throughout the text, and I found myself skipping paragraphs at a time to find any new information. In addition, I was hoping to find concrete, applicable suggestions on HOW to kick the sugar habit. While Dr. Appleton does attempt to include "food plans," they are simply lists of the good, the bad, and the ugly.I do NOT recommend this book to others. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed - It is advertisement of NAET
I got the book and then tried NAET method of allergy removal. Looks like fad.

5-0 out of 5 stars NAET works
I suffered from depression most of my life.I also had hay fever, and did the desensitizing with injections three times. (Every time I moved, the hay fever came back.)I was on prozac for years.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not as thrilled as I'd Hoped
The idea behind this book is exceptionally appealing, but I was a bit disappointed in what I actually got.It is basically an advertisement for the NAET method of allergy removal. That method might very well do everything claimed, but I was hoping to get some insight into what I might do for MYSELF.That was missing.Instead, an introduction into the struggles of the author, some of the theory behind energy therapy, and a basic introduction into muscle testing.Past that, the reader is encouraged to find the nearest practitioner for actual allergic relief. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The NAET Guide Book, Sixth Edition
Book was in great shape and was soon in my mail box.
5-0 out of 5 stars The NAET Guide Book by Devi Nambudripad
I was recommended to "Dr.Devi" by my older sister, who was treated for severe food allergies through NAET.I've been a patient for over a year now, and this book really helps you understand the process and encourages you through your journey of better health.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Clear Information
I had reviewed this in the past and given it 5 stars. This is my updated comments. When I was treated with a N.A.E.T. type therapy my doctor actually didn't follow this method used here which may of been less effective for all I know. I didn't find this treatment to be as helpful as I had hoped. It may be in part due to the fact that I have multiple food sensitivies instead of just a few.I strongly feel though that the cause of the problem like a weak immune system needs to be addressed before any other treatment can be lasting.I am going to an Naturopath now and she says that this treatment in the long run hasn't been found to be lasting.Diane ... 1-0 out of 5 stars True to title
The title is absolutely true. But it's fairly easy to simply leave out the eggs and add a little dairy. That's all she's done.To nearly every recipe.Page after page after page.If you haven't baked much, and if you have no dairy intolerence/allergy, the book could be helpful. If you're a long-time baker who's looking for some insight on how to continue baking with a restricted diet, don't waste your money on this book.Pick up you're old Betty Crocker or Joy of Cooking, look at the recipe, take out the eggs, add some dairy as binding, and voila, you've got this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book with kid friendly recipes.
This book makes baking without eggs easy. When my son was first diagnosed with an egg allergy cooking seemed very intimidating.I didn't know where to begin. This book has recipes for foods that any child will eat.My daughter who has no food allergies is a very picky eater and even she will eat everything that I make from this book. This is the only cookbook that I have found that eliminates just the eggs.I have tried many of the allergen-free cookbooks (those that eliminate dairy, wheat, nuts, gluten, eggs, etc.).My kids don't tend to like the things I make from those cookbooks. If its just eggs that you need to eliminate then Bakin' Without Eggs is the best cookbook to have.I only wish Rosemarie Emro would publish a second book.

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing book
We've been using this book for about 5 years now.My daughter is allergic to eggs, milk and nuts. All of the recipes I've tried are great, but in particular, there is a wonderful recipe for "loaded chocolate chip cookies" that is better than anything I've made with eggs and butter. Now my daughter has something she can share with her friend that doesn't "taste funny". ...
