5-0 out of 5 stars Why Your Child is Hyperactive
It may have been written 25 years ago but my son was a totally different child within a week of following the Feingold Diet! It's been weeks now and even he is willing to follow the diet because he says he likes the way he feels. I am so glad I will not have to put my 5 year old child on drugs that will alter his personality. This is a must read for anyone looking for a way to fix the problem and the long term affects of hyperactivity. Doping your child may be the easy way out but doesn't address the cause. This may not help all cases but it's worth a try.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Feingold diet saved my child's life
Dr Feingold's theory is that bad behaviour and/or learning disabilities in otherwise bright children is caused by artifical colors and flavors. Although it may seem too simplistic, it is the answer IF you, as a parent, are willing to alter your lifestyle by reading ingredient labels and preparing food that is normal, natural and healthy. A child cannot do this on their own! But you will save your child's future and maybe your own sanity. A must buy!

5-0 out of 5 stars MIRACULOUS TOOL NEEDED BY PARENTS/GUARDIANS
Dr. Feingold's book saved my sanity in 1985 through this book!My daughter who was absolutely unable to follow directions, orlisten for more than one minute is just the beginning of descibing her challanging behavior before applying this book to her life! She was so hyperactive it meant a day of running around in circles, running up a wall, jumping off of furniture, absolutely "crazy" actions constantly. Our lives with her were sheer he--: trying to go out in public, attend religious events, visit friends/relatives, go to the park or groucery store meant an exhausting, unpleasant experience!I had taken her to a nutrionist, allergist, & psychiatrist to find an anwer and help.No specialist was able to help.I bought this book figuring that we were running out of hope; let's try it. I read this book and began following Dr. Feingold's methods exactly as he writes.Within four days my daughter's behavior changed into a normal functioning small child. My mother came to visit us on the fourth day of the Feingold Diet and was upset thinking that I had heavily medicated my daughter because her behavior was totally normal for a child her age!!!!!I explained what I did:exliminating all foods and starting fresh from scratch and slowly reintroducing foods. My daughter has NEVER been medicated for hyperactivity or any behavior disorder. We only fed her what was well tolerated.THIS BOOK IS A MIRACLE TO OUR LIVES!!!!!!!From 1985 to today has been a wonderful experience with my daughter!!!!!!She has been very successful in school (including college), sports, popular, and a pleasure to be around!!!!!This is the complete truth.I hope that other parents will take the time to get the book for the child who is "uncontrollabe, hyperactive, or unfocused" and follow it!The initial few weeks are difficult but it is worth every ounce of energy utilized!!!!!Please, for your sanity and your child's acceptance get and practice Dr. Feingold's methods to your child's life; it works!!!! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Food Additives--Please Update
The size of this book is excellent for carrying in your pocket or handbag, and facilitates use in the supermarket. The contents are generally good, and very helpful, but I believe the author should review it with an eye for being under-critical about some listings. For example, there are those of us who, due to recent reports, believe that the yellow artificial sweetener should be consumed with great caution, if at all, but the book does not address this.Considering the fact that this is a book concerned with health, I would strongly urge the author to be more critical in the evaluation of food ingredients. Those of us who are highly sensitive to food additives require stringent guidelines.

5-0 out of 5 stars food additives; a shopper's guide to what's safe and what's not
this book is fabulous and every one should not only read it but carry it with them when they shop.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Christine Farlow's books are the TICKET TO SAFETY in living!
In order for people today to protect themselves from harmful ingredients, even walking through a so-called "Natural Foods" or health foods store is not enough.

Editorial Review

We already worry that our food makes us fat, dull, disease-prone, and sleepy. Now we have to worry that it also makes us crazy. According to certified clinical nutritionist Carol Simontacchi, the food industries that give us packaged, processed, artificially flavored, chemical-ridden, artificially colored, nutrient-stripped pseudo foods such as sodas, processed soups, sugared cereals, and fiberless bread "wantonly destroy our bodies and our brains, all in the name of profit." We Americans (adults and children) eat 200 pounds of sugar and artificial sweeteners each year. Our children's test scores and grades drop. We become violent, illogical, moody, depressed, drug-addicted, and crazy. The reason, according to the author, who is pursuing a doctorate in brain nutrition, is that we're starving our brains with lack of nutrition.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on nutrition in today's world.
The book describes the essentials to providing excellent nutrition for babies, children and teens specifically when it comes to brain development and health. It details the dangers of allowing the food industry to decide what your kids should eat.If you want your kids or future kids to thrive and succeed in life, this is book hits the importance of doing it right from the start.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
I really enjoyed this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book is awesome!
Not only does it get the sensationalist words "crazy" and "destroying'worked into the title, but it also ties them into other such sensitive topics as (1) our brains and, (2) our children. The only other things it could have mentioned is (1) the elderly, (2) kitty-cats, (3) puppies, (4) rainbows, (5) gumdrops and sugarplums, and, (6) Jesus.Maybe the author can re-think the title to work all those things in to make it more dramatic and appealing to the masses.

2-0 out of 5 stars Maybe in England; but not the U.S.
I had the opportunity to examine this book.As someone in the food industry I was disappointed by Food Chemical Safety.Only one chapter deals specifically with the United States.Food safety is food safety; but when you buy a book on the subject; you want one which is applicable to you.The book is narrowly focussed on the U.K. food industry. Beyond the geographical location;the book lacked depth.Short paragraphs (which made for an impressive Table of Contents) provided no substance. If you are reading about food chemical safety; you want information beyond ashort paragraph which assumes you know nothing to begin with. As the book is written, I could see its only use as a text in a library for college or high school students with a paper to write. ... Read more

I can reccomend this book . It has never let me down when I wanted to see the value of a certain food.

4-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive A-Z listing but slightly lacking in depth.
I read this book while staying at a cousin's. Of course I didn't read it page by page, but in encyclopaedic format you probably wouldn't read it cover to cover anyway. Recently I've started to really watch what I eat, counting fat grams, protein grams and salt intake on a rigourousweightlifting program. This book is probably one of the better I've seenfor helping me learn about different foods, additives, etc. but all at acursory level. For example some entries contain no more than a paragraph, adefinition...nothing more, but enough I suppose to address one's curiosity.I looked up Arrowroot which I'm using for thickening the broth that comeswith my Seitan (wheat gluten) when making stir fry...it's in there! I alsolooked up things like soy, linseed oil, brussel sprouts, all in there. Itested the book throughout a weekend and not once found it missing at leastsome entry on the topic. They must have gone through every ingredient onevery store shelf....though probably missing something, I couldn't findanything. For select foods, most of them in fact there is a small tableindicating the basic nutritional content. I found this very helpful. Myarrowroot contributes almost NOTHING to my meals! I wish the book containedmore specific page by page bibliographies for further reading, but Ibelieve there was a selected bibliography in the back, can't remember. Thisbook is great to have on hand to answer a quick question when you comeacross something and wonder what the heck it is: partially hydrogenatedvegetable oil? Answered. ... Read more

As a former marketing assistant for a small publisher, this interesting work caught my attention. It is a highly informative reference, which addresses health and environmental issues that will be of interest to everyone. The information is indispensable to anyone concerned with their heath and provides details on prescription drugs, vitamins and herbal medicines, along with some possible dangers or side effects of popular herbs.Where misconceptions abound or confusion arises due to conflicting information in the popular press, this resource provides a logical viewpoint.2-0 out of 5 stars Some interesting info, some not
