A VALUABLE TOOL FOR MY HEALTH NEEDS.
I WAS RECENTLY HOSPITALIZED WITH DIVERTICULITIS. MY DR. ADVISED ME TO GET ON THE HIGH FIBER BAND WAGON. I DIDN'T REALIZE HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO GET THE RECOMMENDED AMOUNT OF DAILY FIBER. THIS BOOK LISTS FOODS I HAVE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF AND I FEEL IT IS VERY COMPLETE. GRANTED THE FIBER IS NOT DIVIDED AS TO THE KIND BUT.... MY DR. SAID JUST USE THE TOTAL AND TRY AND GET 25-30 GRAMS A DAY AND YOU WILL BE FINE. I WAS QUITE SURPRISED AS I THOUGHT MY DAILY LUNCHEON OF TOSSED SALAD WAS WONDERFUL. GUESS WHAT ICEBERG LETTUCE IS SO LOW IN FIBER THAT IT IS NOT MUCH BETTER THAN A SLICE OF BREAD. OH DEAR. HOPE THIS HELPS MANY OF YOU.

Good compilation, but does not specify fiber catagories.
Overall, this book provides a good reference that you can use to plan your fiber intake.However, I believe the compilation is incomplete.The intro specifies the two fiber categories as water soluable and insoluable butnone of the actual values are broken out into one of these two categories.The values are only listed as dietary or crude.We have to make anassumption that dietary fiber is a combination of both fiber categories. Bottom line,you are unable to determine how much soluable fiber you areconsuming. ... Read more

The healthiest and best tasting
I've never done this-write a review.But someone gave this book only 2 stars, and that really bothers me.The author's other baking books, now almost impossible to find, were very highly rated, and rightly, and this one is the best of them all-and comprehensive. Healthy, but not easy
Jane Kinderlehrer has a lot of creative ideas for muffin recipes, but many key ingredients are obscure (lecithin granules) or take extra time to prepare (a special concoction of seeds & granola).Many healthy items are used as additives, put into many of the recipes, rather than with an eye toward creating auniquely delicious item.I guess if you're looking for how to sneak in lots of nutrients when you bake, this book might be helpful. ... Great for Vegetarian Newbies
This book is a great book for those who are trying vegetarian recipes for the first time.The recipes are easy to follow and all of the ingredients are available at your local grocery store.I serve my family about 2 vegetarian meals a week, and everyone loves the recipes.Also, I have sent one to a friend who was forced to change his diet for health reasons.Going from Snickers to kombu is too big a step for a newbie. vegetarian should mean vegetarian
every ten pages is a 2-page spread called "almost vegetarian" that proves the organizers of this book to be uneducated in the field of advertising and catering to vegetarians. Read more
