Great Recipes
I love this cookbook !My son, age 12, was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.The change in diet has been hard for him.With help from the recipes in "The New Family Cookbook for People with Diabetes", we have been able to find things that my son can have.He especially likes the Chicken Nuggets, Creamy Macaroni and Cheese, and Angel Food Cake with Cocoa Whipped Cream.There are many different types of recipes in this book.I'm sure there are some for everyones tastes.

MUST HAVE FOR TYPE 1 DIABETES
This is a great book. We use it all the time. It is easy to read and a great reference. We have a child with type 1 diabetes.This book is a must for type 1 diabetics. We are very pleased with the format and the substance of the information.GET IT!

Stop the food battles
One of the biggest obstacles we faced when my daughter was diagnosed at 2 was not battles over shots or finger pokes; it was over food. We were used to having pleasant, sit-down dinners as a family, but at 2 years old, she had the power to send me into panic mode when she wouldn't eat the carbs I had already given her insulin for. No amount of punishment, crying (on my part), or anything else worked to get her to understand the importance of eating what I had set out for her. How could it? She was only 2. I found this book while browsing titles and it saved our family dinner! By giving her insulin after she had eaten, I got the control over our family dinner back and it became a pleasant experience again. Also, she started eating more when she wasn't being hassled about it, and she needed to putsome weight back on. We still maintained excellent control (not perfect, but ours never has been). We've had diabetes for 5 years and I'm still thankful we had a way to deal with a very trying issue at a very stressful time (diagnosis).

A Lifesaver
This is an excellent book especially for newly diagnosed kids and their parents.It was easy to read and understand.I have implemented many ideas from this book and I highly recommend it.

The size of the book makes it a bit tricky to read (crack the spine right away to help keep the pages open), but it's filled with good information on every aspect of type 1 diabetes. Though not specifically written for type 1 diabetes in kids, it's still a useful addition to your diabetes library. Also, if you're looking for one book to help relatives understand the management of type 1 diabetes, this is a good place to start. A field guide may be a quick and helpful orientation to the wilderness, but ultimately leave you lost. As someone who is newly diagnosed with diabetes, I wanted all the information I could get about diabetes, its treatment, and suggestions for coping with it. This book left me with more questions than answers. I'd say if you want to help your friends and relatives understand diabetes, this book may be helpful, especially if they have short attention spans. But I wouldn't recommend it for someone who is headed off into the wilderness of learning about diabetes and needs a reliable guide that can help you cope with unexpected dangers. ... Read more

A bitter disappointment as well.
Nothing impressive about this book.In fact, this is one of those cookbooks I wish I never purchased.Does not go far enough in talking about the relationship of food and diabetes and is filled with only so-so recipes.You would be better off purchasing a good cookbook and cooking recipes centered around protein dishes.

Bitter Disappointment
Cooking is a joy and a hobby for me, when accurate instructions are provided.Regrettably, I was no further into this book than page 8 before discovering a substantive error:Chicken Breast Roulade clearly must require more than 1/8 cup (2 Tbsp.) Chicken Stock in order to produce final portions of 1-1/2 Tbsp. for each of four servings, particularly after it has been reduced by half.Pages 11 and 12 show lovely photographs which, regrettably, are mis-identified.With such careless editing, how can one trust anything else in the contents?

As a healthcare professional who lectures on foot health, I found this book to be concise and to the point. The potential effects from lack of proper foot care are not soft peddled.The steps to take for preventive foot care are written and organized in an easy-to-digest manner. "Must" reading for all diabetics and their loved ones.
