Editorial Review

Admittedly, we sometimes become oversentimental about motherhood. But in a climate of rampant cynicism and family disintegration, stories about maternal love, courage, devotion, and triumph can be immensely comforting and inspiring. Contributors such as Dave Barry, Barbara Bush, Reba McIntire, Erma Bombeck, and Joan Rivers offer celebrity appeal. But even more heart coddling are the stories by everyday women, sharing their intimate experiences about becoming a mother, almost losing a child, discovering miracles, and honoring the wisdom of grandmothers. Mothers of all ages will appreciate this book as a gift to themselves or as a gift to a beloved mom. But get out your handkerchiefs, the editors showed no restraint when it came to including tearjerkers. --Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars nice book
my family got this as a gift about 8 years ago. I don't remember much about it but I remember the stories about the mother losing her son during a skiing accident, the girl who bought her mom bobby pins for her birthday and the story where they're celebrating a grandmother's birthday and she dies at the end of the party after seeing her entire family at the celebration.

1-0 out of 5 stars Trash it!Better yet ...... BURN IT!
This "simplification" book was written by a woman whose idea of simplifying is driving a BMW and getting her exercise by taking walks on the beach. That is unless she is walking in the park, then she will let her dog sniff for a while and then leave him in a hot parked car to finish her "brisk" one mile walk herself.
3-0 out of 5 stars Basic
St. James expands on the idea of creating a happier life through simplicity. She teaches readers to change their focus from gaining money to achieving a simpler existence. She fails to address exercise or spirituality.
4-0 out of 5 stars Take Back Your Time
Elaine St. James has come a long way since her days as a real estate investor. One day she realized her life was too busy and complicated. By cutting back on work and eliminating physical and mental clutter, she was able to focus on what mattered most in her life.

1-0 out of 5 stars Self indulgence brings suffering not happiness.
The advice in this book may be good for someone who is suffering from workaholism. For most people this book is worthless.Indulgence in pleasure only brings temporary gradification and an endless want for more pleasure.
1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I was looking forward to an inspirational read when I picked this book up and began reading.I continued reading hoping that it would become more engaging.I then found myself skipping pages, then chapters, just stopping long enough to read the quotes tucked among the verbiage and was relieved to finally come to the last three pages which I felt short changed the title of the last chapter.I guess if one was really bored and really hard up for something to read you might discover something that I didn't find. The author elaborates endlessly on what is obvious. We all have relatives like this whom we avoid asking questions or sitting next to at gatherings.Save your money and purchase something more worthwhile.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loving it!
I am in the middle of the book at the moment and happened to stumble upon it in a bookstore weeks ago.I myself am 25 and can appreciate the idea of excepting all the pleasures that life has to offer. If we can all learn to follow the simple ideas of this book.Life would be a lot more pleasurable! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars HUH?
I must be a simpleton.I have a masters degree and I found this book to be so twisting on the mind. How many times does one have to read this book to understand what can be in my opinion expressed in a much simpler and easily digestible way. Best I go back for my PHD. The secret to my letting go is letting go of this book. Apparently others think so because you can buy it at used prices starting at 50 cents.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME BOOK!ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OUT THERE!
I wasn't happy with Mr. Somewhat Useful's comment. How he can compare Guy Finley to Anthony Robbins is beyond me.They are in completely different leagues and shouldn't be compared at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Raising responsible, generous, kind, loving, happy and charitable children! How-To
Carol Weisman's book is genius. It's fun and quick to read and you are left feeling you now have a more positive direction in which to live out the rest of your life. The 'resources' list at the end of the book is great. Even if your children are teenagers or already grown this book is a spiritual boost. There are no 'do-overs', but our culture can use more enlightened individuals of any age and stage in life- which is what you'll be after you have quickly absorbed what she has to teach you. I have had the great good fortune of hearing Carol Weisman speak. She is as genuine and wise in the flesh as she is on the page. You want to incorporate her sage and practical advice into your life. I have also met her sons. They are as she portrays them.........responsible, generous, funny, loving, kind, happy, thoughtful and philanthropic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Raising Charitable Children.
I wanted to let you know that I enjoyed reading your book, "Raising Charitable Children".The reading is easy and the examples of using your family gives it the right touch.I am sending a copy to each daughter.I know they will enjoy the book as well.I have told them about the book and
5-0 out of 5 stars I'm Giving This Book to Every Family I Know ... Even w/o Kids
I found this book so funny, so frank and so refreshing.Lots of great, practical ideas, not just about what to do in terms of charity and volunteering but about why and how to do it and how to involve your kids in meaningful ways. The author doesn't suggest you have to go about this charity thing HER way; instead, she helps you discover YOUR way.I liked that.

5-0 out of 5 stars A smart, no-nonsense guide
This book offers a straight-forward approach to dating that apeals to both men and women alike. Phillipa Courtney gives relationship advice that's as solid as any business plan.1-2-3 Success.A good read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Relating Again Confidently after a 23-year Marriage
4 STEPS TO BRING THE RIGHT PERSON INTO YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW! encountered me when I was recently separated after a twenty-three marriage. While I already knew I still wanted the right long-term relationship, I was skeptical that anything other than the time-honored trial and error method of finding a mate would work. But my first trial was a crashing error, so I figured anything was worth a try at that point. Philippa Courtney's straightforward, warm, and humorous style convinced me her process made sense. I worked through the steps she outlined, something I rarely have the patience for. I was able to turn my jumbled thoughts and emotions about the kind of man I thought I wanted into something tangible and clear.A year later, and long since divorced, I've built good relationships with several men. It hasn't been a pain-free year. But I've gone from lamenting my age and my history, and assuming there is no one out there for me, to knowing there is someone. I've become stronger in myself, more adventuresome and confident in meeting men, and more knowledgeable about the relationship I ultimately want to have. Of course I still want that relationship yesterday...I think...but I am having fun, something I would not have imagined possible when I was first separated. And one of these tomorrows he will walk into my life and, most importantly, I will recognize him. I may have arrived at this point eventually, but 4 STEPS TO BRING THE RIGHT PERSON INTO YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW! helped me to get there a lot sooner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bill's book review

5-0 out of 5 stars How the world revolves around me
Bonnie Fuller was a nice energenic person who worked hard and had respect for others. Then one day Bonnie landed a big pay day in being an editor and forgot everyone who helped get here there. She became rude and selfish and began the everyday how the world revolves around me. Ask anyone who know Bonnie yes she has 4 kids a stay home husband and a chauffeur to take her to and from work. And the attitude of a person who is not really in charge of her life after all.
1-0 out of 5 stars Very bad book with lots of logical and factual mistakes
It just seems that Mrs. Fuller didn't care to do a proper research for her book. It's full of obvious mistakes and misconceptions
1-0 out of 5 stars Cold, Insensitive, Blatant Piece of Self Promotion
Her advice was trite indicating more a lack of life experience than malevolence. Even so, this book was all about promoting herself and rationalizing her own life, and not about what the title sells it to be. I think the real audience for this book are women who have too full lives and are looking for some little piece of validation...you won't get it from this book. It falls flat of it's promise. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Great if you can get past "ABCDEFG" psychojumble
I bought several books on this subject at the request of my 19 year old son who was having trouble being jealous of his girlfriend.I must say, we both preferred "Overcoming Jealousy and Possesiveness" by Paul Hauck because it was much more straight forward than this book which gets mired in an "ABCDEFG" analysis of provoking behaviors and responses--just a bit too removed from real feelings and worries and beliefs. However, if you can get past this unnecessarily confusing weakness, the book has real suggestions to make on how to overcome the jealous thoughts and choices.
5-0 out of 5 stars In one sitting...
I just got this book today and decided to read it while waiting for my laundry at the laundromat. It is an excellent book- so much so that I am already done with it.It did a nice job of getting right to the heart of my issue(s).There are plenty of examples and real, practical instructions on how to tackle the problems associated with jealousy.I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it
Great book. Very practical. Cuts right to the heart of the issue without a lot of psychological mumbo jumbo. I bought three books on the topic and this was the best of them. Its harder to put the suggestions into practice as this is a tough issue to overcome but the book and its logic could not be better. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars And Then What?
Although I was excited by the premise of Repacking Your Bags, I didn't feel that it lived uop to my expectations. The book is well-written and has interesting examples of people making life changes, but somehow the process never becomes completely clear. Perhaps there's not enough in there about how to unpack the bags and how to decide what to leave behind. Perhaps there's comething amiss in the organization. Despite some excellent information, this just never comes to gethe as a process.

5-0 out of 5 stars Window of Opportunity
I was stuck in a government job for 13 years - budget restraints meant few if any raises over the years - but as a manager/director the responsibilities piled on.I read this book as and most importantly found it easy to apply!I looked at my skill sets using their tools, prioritized what was important to me and rated my risks.I took a job that was to last a year which lastest 3 and tripled my income the first year of leaving Government.I've continued in the vein over the past 6 years. I have recommended this book to everyone I know who is wondering what to do with the rest of their life!

4-0 out of 5 stars Highly Readable
This book dares you to have a "Time Out" from the busines of everyday and examine your life. It reminds you that life is a journey and as such, you have to continually pack and repack to lighten your load. Although it caters more to couples, everyone can benefit from it. This is a must read for someone who's standing at the crossroads of life. The exercises at the end of every chapter are very helpful. Read it, it might help you to throw away some unwanted stuff in your life. ... Read more

Bored?
2-0 out of 5 stars Ugh
I gave two stars just for effort. This book has some good things to do...reading books, watching movies, getting married in an unusual way. But there are some that are downright awful. Getting arrested? Participating in a threesome? "Getting off" with a rock star? This book is not suitable for people who have any sort of morals, whatsoever. Please do not buy this book unless you intend to do some pretty crazy, immoral things.

5-0 out of 5 stars Look back and say, "Wow that was awesome!"
I was searching for a book to give to some friends that were caught in your standard adulthood rut.I was torn between getting the type of book that approached the subject with humor and recklessness or a book that explores topics like world impact and legacy.I didn't want to go too light (pure stupidity) or too deep (count your days old guy).

5-0 out of 5 stars A fine starting point
The most important condition for happiness is even-mindedness, and here the author of AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A YOGI brings some of this sense to a treatise on how to be happy under virtually any condition. From identifying habits, thoughts, and practices which steal from happiness to understanding simplicity is the key and sharing happiness with others, HOW TO BE HAPPY ALL THE TIME: THE WISDOM OF YOGANANDA, V. 1 is a fine starting point for reaching contentment.

This book is filled with pearls of wisdom. As always, Yogananda's advice is profound and practical at the same time. I love the passage where he says:

What a pleasure to read Yogananda's words after being edited by someone determined to preserve the master's personality and spirit. So many of the books available today on Yogananda's teachings have a stilted quality. But, while reading this book, one has the sense of the yoga master sitting at one's side--spontaneously sharing his insights on every aspect of how to find and maintain inner joy through all the ups and downs of life.

3-0 out of 5 stars work!!!
It really is a "WORK" book.It takes alot of thinking and quiet time to answer the questions and to go back and analyze what you have written down.Too much work for me.I guess this book would be good for someone who has alot of extra time on their hands to ponder their life.I do not have that time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
As a student of Buddhism, I found much of the content in this book to be diluted Buddhism.Basically, it's Buddhist teachings without the Buddhism in it.I'm sure it helps many people, but for me it was diappointing -lacking in depth and substance. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My experience with Guide
When this book came to me I was already in touch with books of Miguel Ruiz. They appealed to me; I liked the concepts, masteries of awareness, love, transformation, intention... I already incorporated four agreements - I lived it and it really improved the quality of my life. I changed myself, I paid attention to what I was doing, saying, seeing, hearing... It was just amazing experience. But, it was not enough. After that first enthusiasm and euphoria I felt stack again. I hit the ceiling and felt frustrated. Susan Gregg's books opened a new gateway. Although familiar with ideas and concepts I did not know how to go deeper, how to make that necessary breakthrough that moves me further, that brings me closer to myself, to understanding of what I am and what I really want materialized in my life. Her Guide is just what I needed. It is simple and practical. It actually tells you how and what to do. It explains in a simple way what it takes and how committed you have to be. The "awareness" I have practiced without any trouble, but the "transformation" is difficult and essential. Without daily dedication to transformation exercises there is no progress. Transformation is what gives you the possibility to cross over to another realm of being, feeling, sensing. It is tough but reachable. It takes few years and you realize it while reading the book. I am a master in digesting, accepting and even communicating these ideas to other people. I was passionate about it because I understood at some deeper level that this is what helps, make a difference and transforms ones life. The only problem is the integration of those ideas and concepts. Susan Gregg is able to convey that mastery; she opens the possibility for integration. For me that was the gift. It is not about the theory and ideas it is about living them and working towards integrating them. I consider myself still at the beginning of that road but it is a comfort to have this book to remind me, to motivate me again when I loosen up, to tell me "look in the mirror and tell yourself...", to get me back on track, to keep me work on my transformation and follow my spiritual path. Her book guides but gives you freedom to choose your path, to follow your pace. It gives you the structure that to feed with your content, with your life experiences. It gives you the key to transform and understand your experiences in a new light. To benefit from the book one has to be persistent. I do not torture myself, I do it in my own pace, but I do it. It is a very resourceful book and invaluable to those who are willing to transform their lives for better. I strongly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS BOOK!!!
I picked this book up at the local bookstore when I was feeling down in the depths of despair. It was a life-saver.Not only did it brighten my mood with sayings like:"We are sometimes taken into troubled waters not to drown, but to be cleansed" and "To the ant, a few drops of rain is a flood;" it gave me a useful tool that will help me to become a better person.I think this is the greatest book I've ever come across.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book should be Audio!!
It's a great book to pick up and scan through.I think it would be even better if the book was on a disk I could put in my Car CD player. With maybe some meditative music in the background I could just let the words of wisdon sink in on my way home from work.Could someone let me know if that is already a work in process? ...
