5-0 out of 5 stars Well-reasoned approach to work-life balance
Author Kathleen A. Hall explains how to develop strength, mental and physical flexibility, focus and happiness by nourishing what she calls the 'roots of self.' She offers a well-reasoned, well-researched approach to creating a harmonious work-life balance. Drawing from a broad range of disciplines, she makes the findings of mind-body medicine easy to understand, and shows that small, incremental changes easily within your grasp may add up to significant life changes. Though her style can be a tad repetitive, we recommend this book to stressed-out, overwhelmed workers and managers as a reliable, one-volume compendium of diverse health and happiness advice.

5-0 out of 5 stars A pathway to getting things in perspective and balance
As one would surmise from the title, this is a book about establishing and keeping balance in your life. One of the better self-help books that I have read, it includes sections on Happiness and Health, Seasons of Your Life, Focusing Inward for Happiness, Stress and Stress Busting, Poisons that Kill the Roots of Your Happiness (fear, anger, hate, pessimism, apathy, greed, etc.), Establishing Serenity, Exercise and it's Gift to Your Body and Spirit, Love and Intimacy, and Nourishment. It is all about living life intentionally with purpose and balance.A Life in Balance is a recommended read. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great and Useful Purchase
This is a rare book that actually deserves 5 stars.
5-0 out of 5 stars Who Says Guys Don't Want to Be Good Hosts?
A great, easy read, filled with practical advice. This book takes the "who me??" out of cool entertaining.Highly recommended by the editors of SharpMan.com.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Gentleman Entertains by John Bridges
"A Gentleman Entertains" takes a surprisingly unpretentious look at men entertaining, though the book is by no means without merit for women readers. The practical advice and simple, elegant recipes cover a broadrange of entertaining scenarios, from casual cocktail parties at home todining out, to family reunions. The South is perhaps the only place leftwhere it is still fashionable to be genteel, and Bridges lives up to hisSouthern upbringing without coming across stuffy. Leaving no stoneunturned, the book touches on everything from tipping to starting acharcoal grill to choosing the wine. Though the title suggests a certainlevel of sophistication, the author is just as quick to advise readers touse paper plates when the situation dictates as he is to recommend theproper way to garnish a cocktail. Bridges writing style is crisp and on thewry side, though he had more room to shine in "Keeping Up," adelightful series of essays on his upbringing in Slapout, Al., as well aswitty observations on life and martinis. I would have liked to have seenhim cut loose in this book a little more stylistically, but being theproper gentleman that he is, he wrote a respectable book suitable for anycoffee table. It is a fine follow up to his previous outing, "How tobe a Gentleman." I recommend it to anyone who is looking for the kindof practical advice on entertaining that bears repeating and never goes outof style. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars SERIOUSLY - it works :)
It was very funny - I put the book down, changed my attitude & approach slightly - and somehow I met the man of my dreams!!! I couldn't be HAPPIER and I believe, it really was my approach in the process that brought me to meeting him & the relationship flourishing!! It's the best $11 you can spend on YOURSELF.
5-0 out of 5 stars Love is Attracted in ... not Promoted
This will explain why online dating, matchmaking, speed dating are helpful outlets to meet someone new who may be a great match ... but often times you end up just making a new friend. Love is attracted in is a different concept compared to more "go out there" methods but worth a try if the later hasn't really worked. A kind Christian approach of love being an inside out job.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what you think!
I know that I, personally, being a Christian, thought that because of the title 'Surrendered Single', that this book was religiously based. However, it is not, just for those of you who are wondering! 'Surrendered Single' was an interesting read, and it brings up some valid points. I don't agree with all of them but overall it was a decent book. ... Read more

I have been part of many women's Bible studies in my life. This is definitely not one I would recommend.Although you were asked to look up many verses they didn't fit together or lead you to any conclusions.Verses also didn't really say what the author wanted them to say.Overall, very shallow. There are many studies out there that are of MUCH better quality.

4-0 out of 5 stars Opening Closed Doors
There are many books on life planning. There are many books on reinventing a life. I keep coming back to this one as a gold standard among the many instruction manuals out there. It's simple. It's well-written. The examples are clear. There are no gimmicks. The authors encourage introspection and self-reflection without making this seem scary and they offer simple guidance in indentifying and obercoming obstacles. This is one of a handful of books that I've used myself and highly recommend to my coaching clients.

5-0 out of 5 stars In Transition? Thinking About Quitting? or Retiring?
Better read this book. Whether you are leaving a job to go to another one or thinking about hanging it all up, you ought to spend $10 and get this book.
2-0 out of 5 stars Superficial, irrelevant, and irritating
Let's see - I graduate from law school at age twenty, work as an attorney, a real estate developer, venture capitalist, and a banker over a span of about thirty years. Then I get sick and am out of work. When I am ready to return to work, I, through a large network of past contacts, just happen to get a job teaching college courses, which leads to writing books and appearing on national TV shows, and which, in turn, leads to forming consulting businesses including life coaching. And, of course, my advanced degreed wife takes a well-paying job at a magazine as a cushion. Then I hold myself up as an example of how the typical person can launch a second career and put it all in a book, SECOND ACTS. So the reader learns early on that the author cannot distinguish the irrelevant from the situation of most attempting to make a career change. Furthermore, it is an irony, which the author little sees, that he did not depend on the exercises that he recommends to others in finding a second career. He actually stumbled into most of what he calls a second career. Is that the real message: get lucky.

5-0 out of 5 stars Healthy Forgiveness is True Forgiveness
Written in a compassionate and wise manner intended for those who have experienced a very harrowing situation, this book explores and offers emotionally healthy tools for healing the deepest hurts inflicted by someone very close to us. Based on real-life case stories the book explores in a reality-oriented manner the paradox of true forgiveness that allows deep and complete healing for a person. This is not about blaming the victim or sugar-coated attempts at glossing over mud with whip cream ... it is getting to the core hurt and really mending a broken heart so it is stronger and wiser and safer than before. A must read!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Continuation of "After the Affair"
I found this book to be very supportive of multiple situations that would require forgiveness, but it was primarily targeted at people dealing with post-affair syndrome. There were a lot of case examples to help you feel like you weren't alone, but it edged on being too many stories and not enough help. The help comes a little later in the book. The best part about this book was simply guiding you to identify what you need from the hurting party in order to grant forgiveness. There are a lot of tips for both parties in a situation, so this is a good choice for people on both ends of an affair, but I do suggest reading "After the Affair" first because the author makes a lot of references. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Rightist Hegelian Author Claims 'All's Good'
Despite all of it's problems I enjoyed this book. Is the author arrogant at times? Yes. Is the author clearly a conservative christian (who makes an attempt at nonpartisanship)? Yes. For example, he singles out Hillary Clinton as a politician who acts contrary to her own words (she derided consumerism but purchased a $1.7 million dollar home apparently)...but couldn't this be said of many if not most politicians these days? Maybe I'm just cynical.

1-0 out of 5 stars If you want a good motivational read, go someplace else
This has to be the worst book that i have read in a long time, she write's with a bunch of double talking never really giving clear idea's.Reading the title it sounds like a good read, one that would help you to get a better prospective on life. But instead she alluded to the idea that there is no "right and wrong" in life rather just state's of mind.If you want inspirational thinking and idea mining go read "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill.

Editorial Review

As little children we know how to live in the moment and be completely authentic. But then something damaging happens to us, according to author Don Miguel Ruiz: we are given "knowledge" about how to live in the world. Parents tell us how to behave in order to be a "good" boy or girl. Teachers tell us what it takes to be a "winner" or a "successful" adult. This collective "voice of knowledge" is not only false--it is often poisonous, explains Ruiz, bestselling author of

4-0 out of 5 stars Learn to conquer your inner critic and find your authentic self
Don Miguel Ruiz has a knack for taking complex concepts and simplifying them into basic principles that are easy to digest. In "The Voice of Knowledge", he describes how, as we move from childhood through adolescence and into adulthood, we gradually accumulate unconscious filters through which we interpret everything and everyone we encounter in life. Those filters -- or lies, as he calls them -- color our perceptions, not only about others but about ourselves. We bury our authentic self in layers of interference and succumb to our "inner voice", the critic who convinces us we are not enough. As a result, we feel inadequate, but more importantly, we lose our sense of connection with the Infinite.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and concise
Much of the teachings of Miguel Ruiz is put into a clear, understandable and absorbable form. There is a sense of empowerment that radiates from these simple concepts and this book has become an often read addition to my readings of the spirit and guidance of these principles that can add so much to living a life well lived.

5-0 out of 5 stars You can be happy no matter what
I feel so grateful to have studied with Miguel and his mother many years ago. My life was totally transformed. His love and wisdom comes through so clearly in this book. If you apply these words to your life you truly can be happy no matter what is going on around you and magic and miracles can become a way of life.

Cheryl's Grace cards are divine. The images are beautiful having been painted by Amoreno and Vacher. Just ask your Angels to guide you in drawing one or two cards for daily or weekly guidance and they work divinely.

Boticelli-inspired grace cards from Cheryl Richardson are a welcome tool in the harried busy world. Beautiful illustrations with simple provocative statements supporting a "grace" oriented path of consciousness. A daily reminder of grace is very good to have.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two Books in One...Touching, Inspiring and Captivating
This is one of the best investments of time and money that I've made all year. How To Be Like Walt is a superb biography of a beloved American hero, but Pat Williams takes the biography one step further by adding a section to each chapter on how we can apply Walt Disney's experiences to our own lives.Although written with the permission of the Disney family, Walt Disney's character is fully examined, faults and all.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very moving!
This book is one of the best Disney biographics that I have read. I had me laughing, crying and thinking! The concept of the book is excellent and has a great point! Not quite finished with it yet, but I will be sad when it is over for the first time

5-0 out of 5 stars A book that should be read by all!! :)
If ever there was a book that should be read by all, it's this one. This book saved my life, literally. At the time I read it, I had just come out of a very bad situation and thought everything was over for me. My dreams seemed as far away as ever. Then I was looking through the last few pages of a Disney Magazine(one of the last issues published) and saw this book advertised. Being a Disney fanatic, I collect everything Disney, so of course I had to have this book. From the moment I started reading it, I couldn't stop. I'd read a lot of book about my hero(Uncle Walt) over the years but never one like this. Not only did it tell me the incredible story of his life but it gave me lessons based on what had been discussed in the chapter that I could apply to my life. I especially benefitted from the chapter dealing with living out your dreams and becoming the person you were born to be. The lessons were so personal, it was like having a conversation with Uncle Walt himself in some instances. This book allowed me to rededicate myself to my dreams and realize I had so much potential to do great things. I can honestly say my life has changed for the better and I owe all to Uncle Walt and this great book.So to all who haven't read it, READ IT!!! You won't be sorry. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Too simplistic
People who say victims MUST forgive may be laying an additional burden on a person who is struggling to heal by forcing them to feel something they can't, making them responsible for their abuser's rehabilitation (remember that so many victims are told to be quiet to protect their abusers), and marginalizing their suffering. Far too simplistic for a self-help book and may inspire well-meaning people to add more injury to someone who is suffering

5-0 out of 5 stars This book gave me a new important idea.
This book says that any thoughts come from one of two emotions: love or fear. If you choose love, you don't experience fear. If you choose fear, you don't experience love. This is very simple, but if you understand it truly, you can change your life.5-0 out of 5 stars Great book

Great guidebook for anyone interested in "LIVING." Informative, entertaining, and motivating all in one read. Probably should be required reading for incoming freshman at University. Would have a more lasting impact and retention than most books found on traditional "required reading" lists.
5-0 out of 5 stars A wise, sensible book on healthy aging
A smart, common sense alternative to all the junk science books out there on how to stay young forever.Deals with all the components which go into healthy aging from finances to fitness to staying active and finding fulfillment. No magic pills or secret fountains of youth, just practical, entertaining advice.A fun, informative read. I really enjoyed reading "Age Smart".It was not only full of useful and practical information but also very fun to read. The authors did a great job keeping the book light-hearted while providing solid information we can all use.I am someone who is in my late-thirties so the book spoke to me on many different levels.I understand now the importance of not only keeping my body in good shape, but that my financial and mental well-being is just as important.I recommend this book to everyone.I learned so much from reading it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars REAL, sensible help for real people
I originally got this book to skim through before giving it to a loved one who is going through a difficult time. I looked at several books written by people with a bunch of letters after their names, but ultimately selected this one since I was familiar with Dave Pelzer's childhood story. If HE can enjoy a happy, fulfilled life after everything he's been through, I figure, so can ANYONE with breath left in their body!
5-0 out of 5 stars So Much Courage
I couldn't believe what Dave went through as a child... I don't understand how he lived through his mother's brutal and deadly beatings.
5-0 out of 5 stars A man who helped himself teaches others to
Dave Pelzer is a household name by now . His stories of the childhood abuse he suffered, and his struggle to overcome this have been the inspiration for thousands of readers. Now he in a sense refines what he has learned into a self- help book. The main chapters of the book are built around themes like 'Get rid of the Garbage of your life ' ' Free yourself' 'Suviving a Negative Enviornment' 'Know what you want out of your real life'

2-0 out of 5 stars Psychoanalysis + Yoga = Emotional Clearing
If Freud were a proponent of yoga, many more people would be doing "Emotional Clearing" these days. The idea of discovering and re-experiencing highly emotional memories to "cleanse" the brain of the repressed emotion is not new. And yoga has been around forever (I'm pretty sure cavemen did yoga).
5-0 out of 5 stars Enthralling!
Emotional Clearing is my bible! Truly an amazing work. I have read it three times, and each time I read it I learn something new.

5-0 out of 5 stars do your homework
In response to 'tina', who seems paranoid about "therapeutic grade" essential oils, I say DO YOUR HOMEWORK.It sounds as if you've used 'cheap' oils, or some from a health food store, and thats not good enough. Dr. Young has studied extensively in Europe to bring the highest quality essential oils to us using low heat and taking extra time, up to 2 hours in distillation chamber, not 15 min like many companies who want a fast buck.He cares about the oils and their effect on us as he uses them extensively on himself, his wife and their child. Why wouldn't you want to produce a product you're proud of, and constantly brings amazing testimonies from people who use them. The prices are very affordable considering it's impacting your health and very future. So many people wasting thousands of dollars on cigarettes every year, or drinking pop and eating junk food which is taking them down a very dark path in the end, here is someone who's put in the time and tremendous effort to bring a quality product, and like usual, you have someone with limited knowledge scaring others before they even get a chance to get their feet wet. There's nothing wrong whatsoever with NEAT application, I'm a nurse, and please, don't even begin to compare the horrors of vaccines in this country with Gods gift of essential oils that HEAL!!!!!!! And I'll say it again, yes, there are a few oils that should be diluted, but if you read, and study the subject, you'll know which ones they are. After all, do you just go get your Drivers License when you're 16 without ever studying for the test, without ever getting behind the wheel with a teacher first? I don't think so, and so it is with the oils. The Young Living Essential Oil Company is the one you WANT to deal with, they speak the truth. Thanks

The oil sensitivity and photosensitivity issues are both addressed on page 47 of this book.Directions for dilution of oils or just smelling the oil instead of applying it are also discussed on the same page.3-0 out of 5 stars I have not read this but feel I must respond to last review
I just would like to know what credentials the reviewer of *Warning,Dangerous* has to make the statements that they do.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What an incredible book!
This is one of the best books I have read! The Velveteen Rabbit has always been a favorite, but this is a must read for every adult.Love is the center of everything, and this author hit it right in the head.Kudos!

4-0 out of 5 stars Okay read but light on substance
You cant say this is a bad book certainly but unexciting and pretty basic stuff as I guess we should expect based on the title. It offers good advice, certainly not new. An easy read for sure but not a page turner

5-0 out of 5 stars Velveteen reality
I found this book almost by mistake, and when it arrived I began reading immediately. It is one of the first books in a long time that I was compelled to read in one sitting.Author Toni Raiten-D'Antonio's writing is clear, compassionate, accessible and stimulating. It didn't hurt that the text was crafted around the children's story, 'The Velveteen Rabbit', one of the stories from my childhood that I loved dearly.I recall both the book and the film, and being moved to tears each time, both with the rabbit's becoming real, and the realisation that this reality came with a heavy cost.
