5-0 out of 5 stars Complete Honesty
Colette bears her soul to events in her life that would make most people hide under all the pain and suffering. She has a spiritual awareness which connects her in her book, CD's (Journey of the Chackra's-highly recommended) and in person. You always have choices even on how you view the troubling events in your life as gifts. If she can do it so can you and I. You will end the book with a profound understanding to life's mysteries. Make sure to connect to you intutive self with the final chapters of how to connect yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, humorous, hard to put down...
I first heard about Colette on the Hay House site and noticed she had an upcoming seminar in my area. I signed up for it despite not knowing much about her. I did a little research on her as the date of the workshop approached and was on the fence about spending $300. to attend. A week before the date, I bought a lottery scratcher and won exactly $300. I took it as a sign that I needed to be there. And the sign was right! She is an amazing woman with amazing gifts. And she has a dry sense of humor and a very down to earth appeal. My experience at the workshop was fabulous and has provided insight into my own path. But alas, this review is about her book which I immediately ordered following the workshop. I was not disappointed. She shares her story in an open and honest fashion. Her writing style is very casual yet invites you to turn every page, even if you can no longer keep your eyes open!
5-0 out of 5 stars A Book for All to Read and Learn
Colette has brought a much needed understanding of what a lot of people don't want to talk about in the open. Her candor and humor show throughout the read and the exercises do work - immediately.I am thankful for her gifts and the candid sharing of how it touches all of our lives.Give up world - you are a changin'.

David's work has inspired me in very practical ways and it is truly a read for those who yearn for purpose in their lives. My constant discovery of my "firm persuasion" helps me both at work and at home and dealing with the insanity of 9/11.It is easily one of the top 50 books in my business library and I quote from it regularly when I teach managers and leaders!

4-0 out of 5 stars I would have preferred giving 3.5 stars...
Since there's no option to give half stars, I opted to give Ernie the benefit of the doubt and go up one star.
5-0 out of 5 stars The True Test of Character- Live Free or Die!
The essence of this book is attitude adjustment. Most people tune out when they hear "attitude adjustment" because of the way that it usually misused in North American society. It is usually misused by managers that want you to accept a rotten situation and "adjust" to being an obedient and cheerful slave. When Zelinski uses it, he means that you need to realise that the situation is rotten and that you need to free your mind- and realise that there are options and you don't have to be a slave. It is all about realising that wage slavery isn't the norm, nor the only option. In fact, I realised that I probably would go farther than the author when it comes to taking chances. He states that short of certain death you should take the leap- I have come to believe that you cannot even take death into account. You need to say, live or die, I'm going to live free.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good on yer, Ernie!
Some books you lend to others;this one you don't. Keep it on your shelf as a ready antidote to what many of us chose as a normal lifestyle. Too much work, too much TV, too little exercise, too much junk. About 25 years ago, physical education students in an Australian university were warned to prepare for the future when people would have almost too much leisure time. Oops, what happened? Consumerism and "habitually striving for more and bigger stuff". On average, our standard of living is triple that of 1950 ... are we happy yet?

5-0 out of 5 stars Mesmerizing and Enduring
"Callings" is one of my all-time favorite books. The beautiful writing is enhanced by the deep and practical non-stop references he makes to underscore his key points. There's an expression about writers that absolutely applies to him and that is: "Wow, can he turn a phrase!" This book was seductive to me and made me want to savor every page, re-read it and commit it to memory. The stories connect us back to ourselves and what feeds our souls. A true jewel that I am grateful to have found.
5-0 out of 5 stars a gift that keeps on giving
This book is a book that should be read by every person at some point in their lives if not several times in their lives. I have read and re-read Callings several times and each time there is something new to gain from this deep and insightful work. Gregg Levoy's writing is so full and intertwined with ideas, stories, practical exercises and inspiration, that depending on the point you are at in your life, this is the book for you. Whether you have no idea what you want to do with your life, or you need to refine your callings (as Levoy writes we all have more than one), there is a story in this work for you. When I first read Callings I believed I had a good handle of what my calling is, and by the end of my first reading my vision and calling had expanded exponentially. Now I return to this great book to further refine, and find new life in old callings - and to find new callings as my life-path continues. What a gift - and I say again - a must read for a fulfilling life!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of My Top 5 Favorite Books
I first read Gregg Levoy's book several years ago. It was by far the best book on the subject of callings I had ever come across. Being in the field of organizational development has led me to many books on the topic, but none that compares to this. What I love about this book is that it talks not just of the importance of finding your calling(s), but goes on in depth to address the question of "once you find it what happens next?", as well as "if I follow it and it throws my whole life up in the air, then what?" This book is a rare gem because Levoy draws together many minds on the subject of callings. He is a consummate storyteller, which I love, because it's a book of people's actual journeys rather than purely the author's philosophy. I've re-read this book twice and have bought nearly 500 copies which I give to clients and executive teams, many at major corporations in the US, Canada and Europe. Every time I give it to someone they tell me they've gone on to buy more copies for others. If you read this book and it doesn't speak to you, it might mean you're not ready to pursue a calling that's niggling at you. If so, pick it up again later and you might find it the perfect book. Every time I've read it, something new jumps out at me realting to the place I'm in at the time. I also went on to sign up for Gregg Levoy's Callings Workshop, which was spectacular. It led me to bring the author to both Chicago and the U.K. to speak to my clients. You can find out when his workshops are happening by going to www.gregglevoy.com. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great book
I had shunned the chicken soup series a few years ago. As inspirational as they were they were not representative of the diversity in the western world and too eurocentric. When I heard about this book I thought I'd give it a try and it's nice to read something different yet very inspirational at the same time. It helped me understand a culture different from mine yet similar at the same time. I hope a chicken soup for the south asian's soul will be next, profiling stories of those who trace their origins to the indian subcontinent and relating to their religions, cultural values and so forth in the north american context.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Stories About African Americans with a positive taste.
I am still reading the my book, but so far have enjoyed it immensely. The book is the best I've read from the Chicken soup for the Soul writers. I've enjoyed all the materials they written. I've shared them with lots of my friends. But this one is Special. I've told my friends that they need to purchase this book. Most excellent educational reading stories.
5-0 out of 5 stars Your Soul will be uplifted!
I have read many in the chicken Soup for the Soul series and like me many of you might only buy the ones that seem to call to you like if your a mother you get the mother one and if your a sister you get that one etc... But I tell you this sometimes you learn your best lessons or gain more from books that are not in your normal realm of reading or that has a cultural background that is not the same as yours. I mention this because I am Caucasian/American Indian and I learned more and received more from this book in the series than any other one I have read. The stories made me laugh, cry and rejoice! Here are some of my favorites in the order in which I was moved by their stories... Confessions of an Ex-Con By Dennis Mitchell, Something Unbelievable (Mary Spio) , Ripples in the pond (Tyrone Dawkins) The Opening of a New World (Malcom X) Black Children DO read (Wade Hudson) Remembering Eric (Tracy-Clausell- Alexander) In Sickness and in Health ( Dorothy C. Randle) It Runs in the Family (Jarralynne Agee), Life After Death ( Ivonne Pointer).

Jean Shinoda Bolen's latest work playfully and sharply offers women thirteen qualities to cultivate during the third phase of their lives ( Maiden-Mother-Crone).She wisely seeks to re-install the title `crone' as an aspirational honorific connoting wisdom acquired through years of living; a woman to be revered and respected.

5-0 out of 5 stars A simple way to change your life for the good.
I read this book several years ago and recently bought another copy to read again (lost my first one). I have to say, since reading this book three years ago, I have used its principles to change my life completely. My life has changed from a life I had always lead, to the life I had always dreamed was possible, but was out of reach. I have told others of the principles in this book and many of them have changed their lives as well. As hard as it is to believe, considering the philosophies in this book are (as I see it) simply an anology, my story is simply true. This book probably doesn't say anything that you haven't already heard in some form, it simply gives you a methodology and way of looking at those things that allows you to use the knowledge that others make so difficult to implement. Those who say that it contradicts religeous beliefs are truly missing the meaning of the book. The views expressed in the book - if taken in context - actually support any and all religeons - I am a Christian. I am now a VERY wealthy person, I have an idyllic life with a wonderful family and I feel real happiness every day. The discovery of this book was the turning point that allowed me to begin a process that has taken me further in the past 3 years than I had come in the previous 36. Thank you Robert Sheinfeld - I wish I could thank you in person ... maybe someday our paths will cross.

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful overview of the manifestation process
The Invisible Path to Success makes the creative process of manifestation easy to understand and implement by using the metaphors of life movies and the Director choosing what to include or exclude from the movie.
2-0 out of 5 stars O God why am I so stupid?
Reading through book, I hade a strange filling that I already know author idea from somewhere. Then at chapter "nine" I finally got the revelation from a template latter for my movie director (idea from the book). Ha. This is the same idea us in "The 11th element" and yes also author is the same. Only big difference is that in this book there is no grandfather who give him the system us it is in "The 11 element". He just changed his idea from CEO to Movie director, which lives in clouds above your head, waiting on you letter. Shame on me! My advice: When you are deciding to by a self help books from reviews please read how many people have really made something from it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book On Feng Shui PERIOD!
I practice the Black Sect Tantric Tibetan Buddhist Feng Shui method but this book covers the Compass method also. After reading this delightful little book I realized that I had many changes to do in my home. Some of the other books I have read on Feng Shui were not as clear as this one is. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who practices any type of Feng Shui because it is easy to use and understand, I do however recommend that you download a picture of the Bagua to assist you in your practice.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great supplemental reference guide
This book is best used as a quick reference guide to Feng Shui! It's fun to read through and full of information, but it's not meant to be an introductory book for beginners. It's great as a reference though, it's super easy to look up information on the fly.

2-0 out of 5 stars My emotional Rollercoaster
The stories in Chicken Soup for the Girlfriends Soul took me on a very high and low emotional rollercoaster. The stories made me smile and some made me sad.I didn't particullarily like this book because I think that it was directed to an older audience.I am 15 years old, and some of the stories were about life-long friendships. I couldn't seem to relate to many of the stories.Overall, this book wasn't my favorite, but it wasn't the worst book I have ever read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Basic Introduction to Japanese Home Cooking Hidden Among Smarmy Prose
Let's start with the bad (beyond the gimmicky idiotic title). The author's tone is beyond smarmy. She congratulates herself and her countrywomen on almost every page - my favorite being her tale of being 40-something and going to the liquor store to buy alcohol and being asked for her identification to prove she was of age.Oh please.(And as another reviewer noted, the author does like to name drop a lot - where she and her husband have traveled; the upscale hotels they've stayed in, etc.)Ironically, the smarminess is quite un-Japanese or at least, quite untraditional. One of the first things I learned when I studied Japanese was that modesty in language is paramount and that one must always deflect a compliment.Perhaps we can attribute the smarmy tone of the book to Ms. Moriyama's American husband/co-writer.Either that or she has been in the U.S. too long. 3-0 out of 5 stars Be careful
If cover photo was steaming rice as Tanizaki's quote in the book instead of the slim, but wrinkle faced author posing with white teethed grin not readily available in Japan, I might have liked the book better. It's pretty imformative history and how tofu is made and stuff. Her mom might be the last generation of Tokyo kitchen goddesses -- Showa hitoketa age group (b.1925-1935sh) know wartime hardship and re- costructed Japan to what it is today, all the while doting on their kids with luxury they themselves lacked. Result is the totally pampered, princessed, well mannered but self centered, well educated but no clue what's in the big world really, polished by spending tons of money (some of their own but more likely daddy's and honey's) middle aged woman you see on the cover. Other reviewers are correct. Just look at what's on the table in today's Tokyo kitchens run by younger housewives. Their mothers already grew up preferring fast food and ramen noodle packet, no longer bony fish with head and gills intact. I am afraid this book is not practical for diet nor recipe ( sorry, we don't do ounces we do grams) misleading to Americans with better intention. It should be titled and promoted as nostalgic culture guide written in bad English.
3-0 out of 5 stars Intriguing but difficult to put into practice
I am a big fan of Eastern food and culture so I found this book very appealing. I, however, found it very difficult to put into practice. The types of ingredients you would need to purchase to truly follow the ideas in the book are difficult to find in many areas. I don't put anything down, though, on the book itself. The writer is interesting and has a lot of good information. She presents herself and her history well without coming across as self-righteous "better than you" attitude as can come across in some of these lifestyle/diet books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Same, but different. Simple, but useful
I can understand why some reviewers are quite frustrated with the author's so claimed secrets. 3-0 out of 5 stars Briefly uplifting, outdated, hardly a book
I saw this book displayed prominently at a Discovery Store in Southern California, but purchased it from B&N. See, I don't like books where an "author" takes a bunch of scientific material, dumbs it down, filters it, cuts it down to a small page, separates it into a few different books on happiness, success, etc., charges $12 a copy, and supposedly helps the public. Before I get to the book, I want to say I only bought this "book" because I had store credit, though the author's evil grinesque mug on the back of the book indicates the last laugh.
4-0 out of 5 stars Yeah, I got some good tips from this book.
Though I never thought that I would ever actually sit down and read it. The examples are simple enough, and some of the stories are pretty inspiring, really. It even got me to think about my life and what I could do to improve it. The only thing, though, this isn't actually the type of book I would read on my own. It's kind of like Chicken Soup for the Soul to me: a book to leave on the bathroom counter so that you can while away the minutes you spend planted on the toilet. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If it's from Victoria, it's good
Just as in her previous books, Victoria pours herself into her writing with heart and soul. Like the repeating strains of Pacabel's Canon, each theme adds to the whole in rare combination of sense and spirit. It's the way she is; it's the way she writes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Gift for YOU and every woman you know!
Observations and good advice on living a richer life. Pick this up once a week, or once a month and randomly or deliberately pick a spot and start reading. This small book goes beyond the everyday 'Woman's self help guide.' It's like little morsels of chocolate: You take a bite, and you love it and you want more!
5-0 out of 5 stars Bring Balance & Joy to Your Life
I started reading a borrowed copy of this. Now I can't wait to have one I own and keep it close at hand. Each 2-3 page essay presents an idea for finding the balance and joy that most of us seek in our lives. There are 75 of these concepts in the book and it covers many of the irritations of modern life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life Changing
I read this book when encountering the crossroads of my own limited mindset. However, upon reading about Dr. Carson's life and philosophy I was drawn to this book and it has definitely been a catalyst in my personal and spiritual development. It's a small price to pay for something that can really help you...if you need it. Break out of that small mindset and get out there and do your best...then let God do the rest, as Dr. Carson says!

5-0 out of 5 stars Recommended reading for students
Since discovering the first printing of Dr. Carson's THINK BIG and GIFTED HANDS, I have been of the strong opinion that either or both should actually be required reading for middle school and high school students. I remember being forced to read Bulfinch's Mythology, The Scarlet Letter, and other really unhelpful books, to delve into them and learn everything about them--how does that help pre-teens and teens, who are starting to question who they are and where they belong in life? Those books were useless. But Dr. Carson has MANY real answers for us all, and I believe that if everyone read his books, there would be a lot less negativity in the world, and much more kindness, caring, and a sense of worth and purpose for every individual, and isn't that what we're all really looking for?

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
This book is awesome. Very good read. Very moving. Very real. Someone you wish you could meet. The book is just awesome to see a young man come from tenements to tops. I pray he continues to do a service to all people. Get the book and THINK BIG. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Coming To Terms With Deception.
Written by the author of 'Mere Morality' and 'How Can It Be All Right When Everything Is All Wrong?' he instructs us in the ways to go about righting a wrong by forgiveness, through encouragement. Forgiving starts with yourself. When you get hurt badly by the actions of others, if you'll reflect on what caused the hurt, it's possible you brought it on yourself. After the upset settles down and you can think clearly again, you need to first forgive yourself for being so gullible.A nasty person doesn't get hurt by the mean actions of others; he revels in the chaos and turmoil he inadverently caused. He's proud of what he did, as he is a monster. You can forgive yourself through the courage of love (for yourself). After all, as Christians we were told to love our enemies; sometimes, we are our own worst enemies. No one else cares about what you're going through or how much you hurt, so you must put #1 first in order to forgive.
4-0 out of 5 stars I found this to be very practical
This may turn people off because it talks about Christianity, but to me the author who is a Christian couldn't have illustrated it more perfectly than with talking about Christ. Christ provided the ultimate role model for forgiving others. When he died on that cross some 2,000 years ago he not only paid the penalty for our sins, but illustrated forgiveness on the cross while he was up there by asking God to forgive the ones who wanted him up there. I honestly don't feel that any of us could begin to start to learn about forgiveness without looking to Jesus Christ. I know I couldn't I tried for what seemed like an eternity to forgive those who hurt me as far back as 30 years ago, but it was a struggle to as I still wanted to see them suffer, and go to hell for what they did to me, and this was still after I accepted Christ. Let's face it if you've been able to forgive someone, and not think, or speak ill of them afterwards without Christ I want to meet you because somewhere through the stoic secular rhetoric I was told I missed something. Forgiveness is something that is not really held in high regard in the world as people are told to just let go, and move on, but how many people must we meet before we find the ones who meet up to our standards, and we know in our knower that they won't hurt us. I know some out there feel that "Well our families are all we need", but are we strong in ourselves that to prove we don't need Christ to forgive, and can overlook small and big disappointments our families can and will put us through. I'm a recovering unforgiver, and I've been unforgiving for over 30 years. Since reading this book I've forgiven 7 people who have hurt me, and others I'm chiseling around the edges. It's not an easy road to forgive others because you still wonder "Why Did It Have To Happen To Me?". There are things that are so small that need to be forgiven, and we don't think of them because they don't cause us financial, emotional, or physical, but left unchecked they can and will. I just can't think of forgiveness without looking to the cross because we all killed the Saviour, and not just Romans, or the Jewish. I mean the Germans, Irish, English, Arabians, Eskimos, etc. We all did it, and through it all he forgave us, and left a way open to come to him. For those who were offended I apologize, and I pray that you can learn to forgive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read this book!
I few years ago I went to Maine to give a talk about parenting.A number of moms came up to ask questions afterwards, and I was amazed at how thoughtful and reflective they were about their children, and about themselves. They all had a tremendous respect for their children and some great ideas about how to make things better for their families.I asked them, jokingly, if they had all taken the same class or something. They laughed and said that they had, they had taken Pam Leo's workshop called Meeting the Needs of Children.i decided I had to meet this person, and I did.We ended up presenting several lectures and workshops together.I was thrilled when she wrote her book, so that now those people who aren't able to take her class (and even those who do) can still get her wisdom and warmth. After reading the book, I was even more thrilled--it is well-written, powerful, and compassionate.I strongly recommend it.Larry Cohen, author of Playful Parenting.

5-0 out of 5 stars From the author of, Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves
As the author of Raising Our children, Raising Ourselves, I recommend Pam's book with all my heart. It is clear, direct, and leaves no stone unturned. "When children feel better they behave better," says Pam. This amazing little phrase is an example of how the whole book is written. It makes sense. If you want to know how to talk to your child in a way that she will feel better and therefore behave better, read Pam's book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Top of the List To Read!
Pam Leo has captured the essence of what children need most - connection. She compassionately describes how in western culture, we have gotten disconnected. Stress on the family and children has become the normal. Pam's Connection Parenting Approach and book helps reawaken our inner knowing of how to be with children from a loving place that meets their innate core need of CONNECTION.

5-0 out of 5 stars HAVE YOU READ MY DIARY???!
This book caught me by surprise. I thought it would be "cute." It wasn't. It's more like a sacred event. Somehow Sacha breathes new perspective into the magical act of self-love. I already love and honor my birthday, but it feels like my birthday goddess has been kicked in her regal butt and raised to a new level! I really get it now: Obey the Princess and all shall be well.Thank you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wowza!!
Linda Sacha, what have you wrought? Your book gave my wife permission to dote on herself. Justification that she is special. I hadn't thought, when I picked up the book, that it would have such an emotional consequence for me and my wife. You freed her, and I suspect all women who read The Birthday Princess Handbook, from feeling guilty about self-indulgence. This book is for all husbands and significant others to know, finally, what to do. . . really . . . for her on her birthday. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars blew me away
I read the 4 Agreements and loved it and even took a seminar series on it.Then I stumbled across this book!It is fantastic! It is a roadmap on how to be happy, how to experience heaven right now (love yourself unconditionally. You will be happy any time your love is flowing to others).Simple concepts but I didn't know them.I typically underline when I read non-fiction so I can quickly review the salient points later on... in this case I might as well plan to read the whole book again, as just about every page has enlightening thoughts.Wow, I am still reeling from the power presented by Don Miguel!Read this book!!!Best book I have read in years, maybe decades! And I am an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction.I liked best the allegory about the magical kitchen (if you have unlimited quality and quantity of food yourself (ie. love for yourself), you will not need to bargain with others for theirs. You will be content and able to just love others (unconditional love!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Mastery of Love
My sophomore year of high school I was very sad--depressed is more likely--and I had been for over a year. I didn't know quite what to do, but I was beginning to turn much of that into anger (i.e. I listened to bands like Reagan Youth, Crass and the Subhumans). I found this book on Amazon as I was browsing, and I decided I wanted to read it. As things turned out, I was talking with a friend of a friend, mentioned it, and she said she had it and would let me borrow it. The odds perplexed me, but a couple days later I was reading it, and Miguel Ruiz changed my entire perspective. I cannot forget the weekend I finished it-- I was in a sort of complete emotional and physical shock. That may have been when my meditation practice began, also. For weeks after I could never decide what music to listen to, so I listened to reggae (the likes of the Wailing Souls, Inner Circle, Bob and Ziggy) and also started reading eastern philosophy. Am I straying? I was just explaining the impact I felt at sixteen. As I am a sophomore now in college, I still keep this book with me, and I am about to read it again. Don Miguel's thoughts always enlighten, inspire and ground me inestimably. But I am going to go, to begin this book again. Enjoy, ... Read more
