I came across this book just after a painful divorce in the early 90's that was not prevented by several years of therapy. I was immediately attracted to the self-analysis that Dr. Langs skillfully lays out in hiswriting. Since money was short, this looked like the perfect answer: free,do-it-yourself therapy.Read more

In this book the compassionate Dr. Hora is able to reveal the living God in breathtakingly simple, infinitely intelligent language. Hora untangles God from theology, misunderstanding, and misappropriation insimple sentences; the reader is left with life.5-0 out of 5 stars The meaning of life is here!
Thomas Hora MD. might as well be the author of a Course in Miracles because this book is is the continuation of what was begun there. Dr. Hora has taken the purpose of life beyond the mundane and put it into reality for us in a way that we can take our lives into our own hands and be of value on this planet. All of the reasons why are here. All of the ways we can be who we are meant to be are here. Plain and simple. Dr. Hora's book is the Holy Grail for those of us who have been searching all our lives for the true meaning of our existence. I have recommended this book to everyone I know and now we can stop searching and start understanding and being who we really are. God bless all those who find this treasure! ... Read more

It's me again...I've finished the book and am doubly pleased! This book provided me with much insight into the distinction between the concious and the unconcious states we live in each day.The book is also veryinformative if you are wondering how our own brain chemicals and outsidechemicals react and have effect on each other.Being that I am a doctor intraining and am contemplating the continuation of my education inneuroscience, I have found this book to be quite well worth reading...andthe fact that I have just begun to learn about medicine, and am notfamiliar with all terminology and explaination, makes this book great foreven the general public/anyone simply interested in the subject.I give itall five stars! 5-0 out of 5 stars Pleased
I have not quite finished the book yet(as I have only had it for a few days), however, I am intrigued! In opposition to the other review from France, it seems as though Dr. Hobson knows a great deal on the subject.Besides, the man has been studying neuropsych. for 30 years. His knowledgeobviously reflects his hard work and observation.Furthermore,"organization" is spelled with a "z," not an"s."

5-0 out of 5 stars Who invents our dreams?
Some dreams seem beyond our own personal creativity. Meditating on such dreams gave me my first taste of a "higher power," presence, a being, an intelligence or consciousness-take your pick-that knows me better than I know myself, that is worldly wise yet spiritually adept, and who seems very close at hand, if invisible. Is it possible to empathize with such a cosmic perspective?

5-0 out of 5 stars Windows to the soul
This is a very insiteful and valuable book.It goes into detail of all that is involved in the making of dreams.Where they come from, how they develop and how we can make sense out of their nonsense.Definitely worth reading a few times.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great insight to your own soul
I found this book a great tool.It gives practical tools for breaking apart the symbols of your dreams.I bought this book two years ago and didn't read it right away.I did write down a few dreams at that time. Recently I picked up the book and looked back at those dreams and was blownaway at the timing of the dreams to what was really happening in my life atthe time.If you want a deeper understanding of yourself and a guide ofbeing led by the Holy Spirit looking at your dreams is a must. As aChristian it was refreshing to have a book that spoke to me insteadbordering on fortune telling that alot of dream books lead to these days.

3-0 out of 5 stars To Dream or not to....
My biggest problem with this book was that it didn't cover alot of things I dreamed about. Great for a first time user because of the easy to use format and language. I myself could have done without the biblical references(after all we're not all Christians) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Focus on the physiological
"Dreaming Souls" clearly lays out an anti-Freudian way of viewing dream content.Flanagan's focus on dreams as "free-riders" that coincidentally join us each night when we sleep is a fascinating way to interpret the latest in sleep science.
4-0 out of 5 stars a seminal work on dreams i would give it a 4.5 if i could
owen flanagan does it once again in a great naturalistic work that sketches a controversial but logical theory in a controversial field. With experience in the philosophic, neuroscientific, and psychological fields owen is more than capable of proving his theory that dreams are not spandrels of sleep, they are fitness enhancing and although a biproduct of evolution are self expressive. He tackles all the neccessary and interesting questions from all his fields and creates an overal complex but clear and illuminating work that is a extreme pleasure to read

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting new information about the subject.
I really had mixed feelings about Owen Flanagan's book Dreaming Souls.Certainly anyone who expected the operant word to be "Souls" would definitely be disappointed. The focus of the book, as the subtitle "Sleep, Dreams, and the Evolution of the Conscious Mind" suggests, is the evolutionary function of sleep and dreams. In general he seems to feel that sleep and its stages probably has a vital evolutionary purpose, but dreaming is simply an emergent property, or spandrel--a Gouldism--that humans have put to various purposes throughout history and across cultures.I could certainly agree with that possibility.Read more

It's not so great. I've had better dream books in my time, although this book was my first. Just about every few interpretations it tells you you're dreaming that a baby is on the way, or death is imminent, now births and deaths can represent ups and downs in life quite simply, but... they make everything sound much more serious than it probably is.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, great messages, lovely narrative
Through the storyline David manages to make us notice the wonder of the world and universe around us and then he does the really clever piece. He creates a compelling case that all of us as individuals can shape our own lives and in so doing actually contribute to the shape of the world around us and through that the universe. This book will give hope and energy to everyone who feels that they are stuck or that their life should amount to more.

1-0 out of 5 stars Where is the scripture??
I read this book hoping for a scriptural analysis of the ideas behind dream interpretation. I want to know how to tell if a dream is from God. What are the scriptures that point to the dream life as a course for communication with God? How can we learn from our dreams without calling Greg himself? The book was filled with case after case of dreams the author has interpreted, but no real helpful information. Examples, not data. I was sorely disappointed and am still looking for a book that describes, in depth, the Christian perspective on the workings of the mind, precognitive dreams, etc. All I can find is New Age stuff and this unhelpful book.

2-0 out of 5 stars watch out folks
Beware--this author isn't even a psychologist (as he claims), rather he got a degree from what the LA Times calls a "diploma mill". Do a little internet research before buying this stuff.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dream Analysis
This is a book filled with dream analysis from a Christian point of view.Let me make it clear, this book is NOT only for Christians, There is no preaching, However, this is the first book that I have read that has interpretations that I feel I can relate to on a Faith level. This book is made up entirely of case studies, This is something that I truely enjoyed. Not only does Dr. Cynaumon tell you why a dream is scripturally based, but he also backs up his statements with the actual location in the Bible so you can look it up for yourself. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
I have the updated version of this book and it is really awesome! I'm very interested in dreams and what they mean. I also love the glossary that tells you what your dreams mean. That is very awesome! The dreams that I'm always having are blackout dreams and they're driving me crazy! A blackout dreams is you know you're dreaming but when you wake up you can't remember what it was about or what had happened in your dream.
4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Material
This book covers a lot of different topics about dreams. Everything from lucid dreaming to out of body experiences to healing dreams, it's covered here. There are also chapters on how to remember and interpret your dreams (even "interviewing" the person having the dreams to help them better remember their dream). There's also a big "dream glossary" at the book's back, along with "inserts" discussing what particular symbols can mean. Even if the symbols you dream about have a different personal meaning for you, it's still helpful.2-0 out of 5 stars Useless most of the time
