5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I will make this fast. This was my first Sylvia Browne Book and it had me hooked. I was excited every chance that i got to read it. It opened a few things up about dreams that i've had for years and some i've had as a child. She does not give you direct interpretation of every thing you dream but makes you find your own meaning after all we are all different. Boy some things that she stated hit me pretty hard, how i could have missed that myself. It really helped me see what my mind was telling me subconsciously in my dreams ~ and what i need to do to fix that. Now when people ask me what their dreams mean it's still hard to interpret them but it has become somewhat easier.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well informed book
This is very informative.Makes you take a look at past dreams that you've had. Very intersting about how children dream. Good book.

3-0 out of 5 stars So many dreams so little time!
I bought this book hoping to gain some insight into my dreams because I have had the most vivid sometimes crazy dreams you could possibly imagine.I give this book 3 stars because I was starting to get bored reading it.There was some interesting stuff in the book like totems which are animals in dreams that we have "chosen" as "protectors" because animals are pure spirits and most sacred to God. I had never thought of them that way in dreams before and so this book did make me look at animals and a few other things differently in my dreams. But I started to become bored with all the account stories from other people about the content of their dreams. I found myself skimming alot when another dream was told here and there. I skipped to parts I was most interested in.Some one else might not become bored, as I did, reading other people's dream accounts in the book so that is why I did not give this book less than 3 stars.I did learn a few things and will look for other souces of information on those topics. So my search moves on. I hope this review helps. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Change your life - if you're ready for it
This book literally changed my life. I have been wondering - since about the age of 15, I'm now 31 - what I really wanted to do work-wise. I sort of bounced from one thing that I'm good at to the next variation on that theme, without ever feeling passionate or fulfilled. I painful breakup and growing discontent at work led me to try to sort this situation out once and for all and purely by luck I came across this book at the library.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not very helpful...
You have to give kudos to Ms. Sher, she really does pull out all the stops on trying to figure out what you want to do with your life.I fit into the last category of her book, those for whom "nothing interests me" was said to describe. While she's quite blunt on the causes, she dosen't really give any concrete help on what to do about it.And her suggestion to just remember a time when you DID find things interesting...well, if that helped I wouldn't be reading her book in the first place. What if nothing interested you back then, either?I mean, really? She's very long on the theory and "pull yourself up by the bootstraps", but very short on what to do when you haven't the foggiest on what to do.I had very high hopes for this book, and it was very disappointing.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you want to do the work
I enjoyed this book because I was at a cross roads in my employment history. My resume writer and job coach [...]said I should read some books before we started to work together. I didn't totally agree with all of the author's philosophies, but I got a lot out of the exercises because I was willing to "dig deep" and find some answers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Too simple?
The techniques in this book may seem a little too simple...but they work! I was on day eight of my 'dream journal' when I had my first intentional lucid dream. I didn't get to fly to the moon or become one with the universe, but I did realize that I was dreaming. Unfortunately my 'Woo-Hoo' response kicked me into a waking state. Hey, it's a beginning, and with that one experience the book paid for itself. Definitely worth the price.
5-0 out of 5 stars Thanks to this book, I had my first lucid dream a few weeks back
The first time was AMAZING! It was flying and I knew it. It was fall and yellow leaves were falling everywhere. I saw everything with perfect clarity...more than perfect. It's like HD TV but in real life. Colors were more vivid than I've ever seen in my waking moments. The feeling of freedom was incredible. I woke up, remember it, and had such a moment of WOW!
5-0 out of 5 stars Must-have
This book is great!Enjoyable to read, but still chock-full of information about sleep and the mind, and plenty of lucid dreaming techniques and even prerequisite exercises to do while awake.

5-0 out of 5 stars On the unconscious
I have previously read only one book on dream interpretation and think this one is excellent. I've always steered away from dream interpretation because I thought they were too mental for me. I am by nature an intellectual and caught up in daydreaming most of the time anyway. But Johnson tells me to bring feeling and body into the interpretation process, and that I like.5-0 out of 5 stars excellent for dream work
though i wouldn't follow the author's exact attributions to symbols in dreams (use your personal ones - what do they mean to you?), the book is still excellent for interpretation and analysis. keep reading it, especially the most important parts, as you are likely to forget. i recommend first reading Owning Your Own Shadow as a primer, also by Robert A. Johnson.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Wisdom Inside
This wonderful book is clear and practical, and really goes to the point. It instructs you and helps you at two levels: first it explains how our dreams and imagination function as a link between our conscious and unconscious lives; then it goes on to instruct the reader on how to learn from this link and how to build a fruitful and lifelong dialogue between these two spheres of being. In order to achieve the latter, the author shows us, with clear examples, the way to understand our dreams and to use our imagination and so find the wisdom that we all have inside. Although this all sounds like any other self-help book, here the author never means to sound witty, empty or artificially triumphant. He promises nothing and makes sure we understand that what he is telling us is nothing new: many cultures use these same methods for the psychological, spiritual well-being of people. But we happen to be living in a time and culture that have lost the sense of inner life.Reading this book is like listening to the words of a loving teacher, who knows things because "he has been there before".Well-written and packed with no-nonsense spirituality, without losing touch with the world where we live or our common sense. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars PerfectLibraryResource
As other reviewers have stated, this book reads like a dissertation given all of the works cited. The author has definitely done his research and is comprehensive in covering all aspects of dreaming. The information presented is interesting and fascinating, but the book is not for those who would rather read a novel than a textbook or term paper.I, alas, am one of those people and donated my copy to our Women's Circle library. This book is a valuable resource and is recommended for those who are taking on serious study.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating
This book is a compendium of information about dreams, ranging from folklore and ancient beliefs through current scientific research. The book is organized into 6 parts: anecdotes and famous dreams, early dream research from the dawn of history up until Freud, modern dream theorists including Freud and Jung, experimental dream research, scientific dream analysis, and paranormal and lucid dreams. There are also two appendixes that provide contact information for dream networks and organizations, and how to keep a dream diary. The book is extensively documented with endnotes, and there is a 20 page bibliography as well as an index. There is a phenomenal amount of material crammed into this volume- -the pages are extra wide to accommodate two columns of text on each page. The book is illustrated with black-and-white photographs and dream-influenced artwork.4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting read
VdC gives a pretty good gloss-over history of dreaming and what certain people thought of them; how certain philosophers and psychologists thought of them.He also recounts several studies and the statistics that were drawn from them - which are quite interesting.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars outstanding!!!!
this book is MUCH better than the author's earlier book(exploring the world of lucid dreaming)for three reasons.(1)it is WAY more comprehensive.(2) the exercises are simpler and easier to understand.(3)it has up to date information.the previous book was written sixteen years ago and this book has a lot of recent research results/techniques.i highly recommend it for anyone who really desires to use this valuable skill.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book :)
I have not read all the other littrature on lucid dreaming, but I still would recomend this book. It is not to big in volume, and I like that. It seems like it is written for anyone. It introduces the subject clearly and easy. It has clear steps for dream practices. and it is suplemented with research and scientific studdies. great book. Also, as I understand it, The author is a well respected scientist on the subject.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, covers everything, no mystical BS
I'm a rational down-to-earth person, and I used this book to train myself to dream lucidly. It was definitely a worthwhile experience. There are a lot of books out there full of mysticism, but I wouldn't trust them. In addition to scientific studies, LaBerge draws freely from mystical traditions with something to say about lucid dreaming or dreaming in general, but his approach is very matter of fact. He'll talk about how those traditions see dreaming, but always the core is "does this lead to any techniques that can actually help you dream lucidly?" ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Refreshing & effective
Summer McStravick's voice is refreshing and breezy, this technique is uplifting and has brought results into my life.I was "Flowdreaming" for positive relationships, and within a week changes began; new people came into my life, and surprisingly, people whom I did not know well became friendlier.
4-0 out of 5 stars Designed for those with little time
The book is easy to read, and instructions easy to follow.Summer McStravick does not try to change or influence your inner beliefs, but gently guides you to understand how you can make your life infinitely better.I would recommend it to anyone feeling lost or undirected. It will help you to find your own direction. The CD and the book together make a complete package, one without the other is a little airy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good Ambient sounds terrible voice and accent
I purchased this CD based on the other good reviews. I however could not relax due to the accent and voice of the hypnotheripist. I was amazed that a voice as grating as this one was used on this type of CD. For me it was a total waste of money. If you are sensitive to such issues I suggest you try a different CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Sleep I've had in years
I have had difficulty sleeping for about two years.I have used this CD for 10 days now and I have had wonderful sleep for each one of them.I listened to it for three nights straight.I didn't need it the fourth night. One night I did wake up and I used it to go back to sleep. I wish I had tried hypnosis sooner.
3-0 out of 5 stars It could have had 5 stars
There are two kinds of insomnia. The first is the one everyone knows about, which is trouble falling sleep. The second kind of insomnia is trouble staying asleep. This means waking in the night or waking up early.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a 30 Day Program
For one I don't ussually give online blog reviews, especially book reviews. However, I have become extremely intrigued and obssessed with lucid dreams. This book is the prequel to my obsession. After I had my first lucid dream by accident, which by coincidence is actually the strongest lucid dream I ever had to date, I decided I needed to look into this. When researching online this 30 day program is ONE of the things I saw first, and non-coincedently caught my eye the most.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
I only ever read half of this book and about a week after I put it down I began to have lucid dreams by using some of the suggested techniques it described. On average i'll get a lucid dream each week, one technique in this book that worked instantly for me was the abililty to recall dreams by keeping a dream journal by your bedside.
1-0 out of 5 stars A waste of time and money...
Some of the exercises in this book are so rediculous, I actually wondered if the whole thing was meant as a joke at the buyer's expense.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great overview of dreamwork
Here's a guy who's really put in the research, not just by reading other people's books but by talking to people, many of them from other cultures (Tibetan, Australian Aboriginal, Native American) - and not just in a one-off interview but in a continuing friendship with several of them.
5-0 out of 5 stars Heal Yourself
I'm absolutely loving this book! I've had a few healing dreams myself (though not to the extent of Marc Ian Barasch). This book really has helped me with understanding signs, and giving more faith to the information my dreams are trying to get through to me. Very powerful book, I highly recommend it to anyone who is curious about the world of dreaming, or even simply someone who wants to better understand symbolism in their own dreams.

5-0 out of 5 stars A transformative work!
"In his fascinating, well-organized and lucid book, Marc Ian Barasch carries us along with him on a brave night journey through the dream world. He challenges the doubting reader with impressive charts of this realm and logs centuries of prior research and discovery. It is a courageous task, as many of the charts he uses belong to times and value systems that do not conform to Western scientific experimental psychology. If you want your science to be businesslike and hard, or, as William James wrote in his textbook on psychology, the researcher to be "studying the elements of the mental life, dissecting them out from the gross results in which they are embedded, and as far as possible reducing them to quantitative scales," this is not the book for you. Healing Dreams is a book for readers who can let go of preconceptions, immerse themselves in the vast lore of dreams and, above all, can savor stories of other people's experience. That dreams can be precognitive and serve both as warnings and point to cures, comes as no surprise to depth psychologists, who continually heed both the outer and inner realms of their patients' psyches and pay serious attention to their dreams. Nor will it come as a surprise to anyone who writes down and ponders his or her own dreams. We learn just what Barasch wants to share with his reader: that we are much more evolved, interconnected and subtly knowing than our little egos would have us believe. We also come to apprehend that our dreams come in various sizes and levels of importance, and can have a wisdom far beyond the personal ego's. Barasch, the author of The Healing Path and Remarkable Recovery...eagerly enters the imaginal world of dreams in a way that required him to commit the "subversive" act of taking his "dreams seriously -- enough to act on them, to live by them" and thus to obey their teaching "to live truthfully. Right now. And always." ...Barasch, using his own big dreams as an example, separates the healing dream from the more mundane variety. He describes the big dream, or healing dream, as one with "a singular intensity of purpose: to lead us to embrace the contradictions between flesh and spirit, self and other, shadow and light, in the name of wholeness." From here he goes on to explore the vast realm of dreams, packed into 11 chapters that never fail to capture the reader's interest thanks to Barasch's own enthusiasm, his profound research and his poet's eye for the heart of the matter. The chapter "The Dream of the Body" is especially full of intriguing stories, particularly of cancer survivors and the way dreams figured into their healing. It is followed by a survey of "Dreams of Personal Calling," which illumine the struggle to find a vocation in life. A chapter on dreams and how they can help relationships comes next, followed by equally compelling chapters on healing past wounds and on compassionately attending to our own dark, or shadow, sides. The chapters on dreams and spirituality make trail-blazing contributions to dream research. Barasch also offers a remarkable interpretation of Tibetan Buddhism's ancient system of dream yoga as a spiritual practice....[It] differs from New Age-type lucid dreaming, which is characterized by typically Western ego-driven themes and controls and alters what the dream psyche presents rather than developing that material as a means for spiritual growth. The Tibetan dream yoga system subcategorizes dreams into those of events that occurred while still awake but that need more attention; "message" dreams of people alive or dead; dreams showing forgotten parts of one's psyche now emerging into consciousness; symbolic dreams and ones with archetypal content; dreams that contain precognitive elements, omens or warnings, or might otherwise be termed extrasensory; and, finally, radiant dreams of great spiritual teaching or blessing. The spiritual component of the book as well as its sometimes poetic intensity add a depth to a subject that is all too often treated as a sort of parlor game. Healing Dreams, based as it is on over 15 years of research and on a profound personal investigation, is saved from both the Scylla of New Age psychobabble and the Charybdis of a true-believer's pomposity by the quality of the author himself. In these days of journalistic sensationalism and excess, Barasch remains an honest reporter with a respectful tone of gentle inquiry into the mystery of his subject. It is clear that he has grown and deepened along with a book that is as wise and healing as a dream.... ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Informative
A very informative book; I was attracted to his true experiences with others and how he handled his psychic talents.

3-0 out of 5 stars Easy to read...not meant to teach techniques.
This book covers many stories and experiences. It is not an in depth teaching book in relation to 'how to' develop or practice your psychic ability.I found the title to be misleading. Great 'basic' book if you are looking to see if the psychic realm is somewhere you might be interested in.Did do two things for me....it helped in relieving a few fears and made me aware of the possible side effects of delving into the psychic world. Couldn't put it down, yet it left me unsatisfied and wanting more as my goal was to learn "how to".Barely touched on the "how to's".

5-0 out of 5 stars Dreams not only as wish fulfilment
Carl Jung says he has analysed more than 2.000 dreams per year, a very impressive number by anyone's standards. In his Dreams book, which a very good collection of many of his dreams experiments, he is after demolishing some Freudian's dreams concepts, mainly the one which asserts that the purpose of dreams is to fulfill infantile sexual wishes repressed in the unconscious, which don't find adequate outlet trough conscious activities. 5-0 out of 5 stars Not only in dreams
About God, Jung said, I don't believe, I know. 4-0 out of 5 stars some of Jung's dream stuff in one volume...
Useful if you don't feel like poring over the Collected Works looking for some of Jung's theorizing on working a dream. You might also check out Jung's Dreams seminar. ... Read more

Bought this book on the strength of the other reviews, but this book is horrible--other books in the same category have many more images and explanations included.

1-0 out of 5 stars blah.
It sucks. Many, many words/things I look up are not there. The iterperatations and symbolism are lame. It is the most inadequate dream book I've ever come across.

5-0 out of 5 stars First Rate Dream Dictionary/Book
I refer to Pamela Ball's "10,000 Dreams Interpreted" quite frequently.I find it easy to read and understand...nearly everything I have ever dreamed about has been in there.I love the fact that she's very detailed in her interpretations for the most part. I would recommend this book highly to other soul-searchers and/or dream explorers out there.I'm not sure what these other reviewers were looking for, but I think the book is great.

1-0 out of 5 stars what nonsense
this book was the lousiest thing ever. it all leads to the same thing. if you wanna know what it is, read the book yourself, but don't expect a great book. and also this stuff has nothing to do with the actual item. for example: "waterfall" allegedly means- at the 'basic' level of interpritation: CENSORED! don't read this book if you're looking for the truth about your dreams. instead, waste the money on hiring a professional to do it. that's how horrible this book is. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best book on dream interpretation
This is one of the most effective guides to dream interpretation that I've seen. Gendlin is a humanistic psychologist, a contemporary of Carl Rogers, and he's still around. He runs the Focusing Institute in New York and has also written a groundbreaking book titled, simply, Focusing. It is this technique of focusing - of developing a sensitivity to the physical, felt sense in the body - that marks this approach to dream interpretation as both simple and unique. In my years of interpretation, I feel that this approach of sensing one's way to a correct interpretation is far superior to pure analysis. The felt sense provides an inner foundation and a guideline for forming a right interpretation.3-0 out of 5 stars review
I liked this book....gave good guidelines on how to interpret....He writes in a manner that is soothing. ... Read more
