The Co-dependent Construct
I found Dr. Stan J. Katz and Aimee E. Liu's wonderful book The Co-dependency Conspiracy: How to Break the Recovery Habit and Take Charge of Your Life only last week after six hours of satisfied reading I knew that I had found a very well written book on the same subject as the book I have just leashed upon the co-dependency/12 step world. Common sense that's not so common
A good straightforward corrective to the gooey, new agey codependency stuff. Great if you want to take responsibility and quit your bad habits and choices without spending the rest of your life on your knees. Remember will power, at last it's coming back in style.Summed up,quit the instant gratification bs., learn some saleable skills, learn to relate to people honestly and responsibly and choose reasonable goals.A good one to read and reread until you (I) get it.

Very Well Written.A Quick Read.
This book illustrates the story of the drowning enabler: someone else's life passes before his or her eyes.

A real eye-opener!
This book was ME and every other woman I've known who has thought she had to DO IT ALL for her family.It's only when we stop caring for everyone else and allow them to do for themselves that the ones we love learn to spread their wings.And we benefit, too, in paying more attention to ourselves and our own goals.The hardest thing to do sometimes is NOTHING, but it is so liberating to realize there are things you can't fix or cure.I highly recommend this book.

The best $4.79 you'll ever spend.
I have always been very protective of my much younger sister, but it was not until I read this book that I realized how destructive my protection was.This is a slim volume--it took me only about 2 hours to read it--butit changed my life and my sister's.Read more

True stories but no solutions for families
As the adult child of a compulsive gambler, I picked up this book in desperation, looking for some answers on how I should react to my father and the chaos he has made of his and my mother's life, so that I am actually helping and not hurting the situation. I was sadly disappointed. The only "answers" presented in this book are many recommendations to join GA/Gam-anon. Unfortunately, there is no Gam-anon meeting in my area. I was also looking for an explanation of what it means to "work the steps" and what each step requires. No luck. Just a list of the steps. There are lots of true stories, enough so that almost any reader can find a situation they can relate to, but after you've read through Part One it starts to get tedious and really only depressed me more.

"Losing Your Shirt" gives hope and understanding.
This book is an excellent source for understanding not only the gambler and his/her addiction, but the family members touched by the addiction.It is so well-written, that all members involved in the gambler's life(including the gambler) can relate to its message.For the spouse of agambler, it can help you to get to the most important stage of grief, whichis acceptance.Understanding breeds acceptance.
