4-0 out of 5 stars Magnesium helped me; please read my story below
I am very familiar with the pain of anxiety, panic attacks, and agoraphobia for I suffered from these maladies for several decades. During those years of suffering I believed that my problems were purely mental and underwent treatment by psychiatrists, psychologists, and hypnotherapists. I took various prescribed medications and read many books such as this, but experienced little relief. And then something wonderful happened: I began taking a daily supplement of chelated magnesium (for a different ailment) and shortly thereafter experienced a significant diminishment of anxiety in addition to cure of the ailment for which I had originally taken the supplemental magnesium. There seemed to be no explanation for why taking supplemental magnesium caused this wonderful loss of anxiety until the publication in 2003 of the important book The Miracle of Magnesium by Dr. Carolyn Dean. Early in her book Dr. Dean reveals that a major cause of anxiety and panic attacks is deficiency of magnesium and that magnesium deficiency is quite common in the U.S. Therefore, I beg all sufferers of anxiety, panic attacks, and agoraphobia -- whatever else you may do -- please purchase and read The Miracle of Magnesium by Dr. Carolyn Dean and please try the magnesium supplementation which she recommends. It may change your life as it has changed mine.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Advance in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a widespread treatment that has unfortunately not received the empirical testing it deserves. One reason that has been cited for its lack of research is the difficulty in standardizing psychodynamic psychotherapy in a manual form so that therapists can be trained to deliver itreliably.Dr. Milrod and her colleagues have met this challenge. Their book clearly describes how psychodynamic psychotherapy can be focused to treat panic disorder, a common and disabling but treatable condition. The book serves as the treatment manual for an ongoing comparative psychotherapy study at Cornell University in New York City, where Panic-Focused Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is being compared to another treatment to test its efficacy. The authors are knowledgeable psychoanalysts. Their well-written book should be helpful to psychodynamic psychotherapists, and perhaps to patients with panic as well. It represents an important advance for the field. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Simple Solutions You Can Apply Today for Immediate Results
After suffering personally from panic attacks, Trickett compiles numerous studies and self-help answers from medical journals and files, scientific publications, and empirical wisdom on how to recognize symptoms of panic attacks and how to treat them yourself.1-0 out of 5 stars Mother of a Panic Attack Sufferer
While I appreciate Ms. Trickett's efforts, it does not address the seriousnes of some panic attack sufferers. My daughter suffered up to 35 panic attacks a day and was quickly becoming agoraphobic (fear of going aside for fear of triggering an attack). While prayer plays a role, her book is not sufficient enough to truly deal with the seriousness of this issue. It has taken two years of therapy to bring to the surface the root of the problem and telling a victim to pray, go outside daily, laugh, etc. really is not much help.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good intentions but at times counterproductive
Although the author is obviously driven by good intentions, such as promoting natural therapies which are invariably ignored by traditional medicine, she seems to have a dangerous prejudice against the use of medications which can be very useful for the treatment of more serious forms of panic attacks. The relaxation, diet, breathing retraining and massage techniqies she recommends are all very nice things and can be very helpful for mild sufferers. They can undoubtedly also be of great help for people with a more severe condition. However, writing that tranquillizers and antidepressants can actually cause panic attacks - as she does - can considerably increase a patient's fears and phobias about taking the medication he or she has been rightly prescribed. 5-0 out of 5 stars NICE!
I came across this book when I was browsing at the bookstore and after skimming through it I snapped it up right away. I am really glad I did. I found alot of useful information on the types of therapy available and different ideas on how I can help myself and manage my life with an anxiety disorder. I also found the chapters on the mind body connection and causes of anxiety to be particularly useful. I really recommend this book if you have an anxiety disorder or you know someone with an anxiety disorder. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Panic Disorder, Agorophobia? Gotta Read this Book
This is a very helpful book in understaniding panic disorder with or without agorophobia. This book has been so helpful to me.Just reading it gave me so much hope.If you are suffering form this, you've don't want to miss this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars PanicDisorder Is Not Your Fault!!!!
I really felt comfort in this book! As a 27 year old female who has had panic attacks since the age of 5, this book is a godsend. Dr. Kernoodle is a Panic Disorder expert who knows what he is talking about. Finally a book that doesn't practically say it's all in our head, and we can control these horrible, debilitating attacks just by thinking different thoughts. His studies have concluded that it is not all in our head, but in our chemical makeup! It can be a disease just like heart disease. Just like a diabetic who needs insulin, Panic disorder can be treated with medications, and behavioral therapy. I like the fact that Dr. Kernoodle makes the sufferer feel it is not the anxiety victim's fault but a real medical problem, which is usually shamefully ignored by the medical profession, because it is a mental disorder. I wish Dr. Kernoodle lived in my area, so I could get the care I have been waiting for all my life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Panic disorder explained--without the jargon
If you have panic disorder (or know someone who does), you must read this book! Without using complex medical jargon, Kernodle gives the most up-to-date explanation of the physiology of panic disorder. Drawing on numerous research studies, journal articles and his experiences in private practice, Kernodle explains current theories on the causes of panic disorder. Read more
