4-0 out of 5 stars Review from a "Bipole"
This is a fabulous resource. I've had depression, mania and anxiety (as well as panic attacks) for the past at least four years, and I've read A LOT of books that aim to help you understand your diagnosis, symptoms, and struggles, and many have been very helpful. This one takes the cake. While not all of the information was new to me, a lot of it was, and the format was perfect for truly helping me understand. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of 5 is because I wish there were a newer edition that could update some of the information on medications.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very Basic
I was disappointed with this one.Everyone else liked it.I just thought it was very plain, and became bored with it quickly. If you suffer from anxiety check out "Embracing the Fear"...

5-0 out of 5 stars A new, life changing perspective on our condition
One out of every ten people in the modern world, regardless of age, gender, nationality, education, or socioeconomic background, suffers from some type of anxiety or panic disorder. I'm one of them. And I know what a struggle living with this condition is. But no more. With a straight-to-the-point language, tons of knowledge that comes from personal experience, thorough explanations of symptoms and causes, and above all, the compassion that can only come form an "ex-sufferer", Bronwyn Fox displays with words the road to not just recovery, but "total" recovery. And the most wonderful effect that this book has on you is that, after reading it, it leaves you with the feeling that, although you thought for a good period of your life that you would never recover, recovery is actually rather simple, and that your illness is not such a big deal after all. It really isn't, you just have the wrong points of view and the wrong approaches to certain thoughts, that's all. This book will teach you how to change those views, and after that happens, you'll be free once again. For the price, it beats the heck out of paying $150 for an hour with a therapist who cannot relate to what you're going through, and above all, doesn't really care what you're going through.

After suffering for over 20 years from panic disorder I came upon this blessed book through the HUB site for anxiety disorders.3-0 out of 5 stars Overpriced and low on content

1-0 out of 5 stars Panic Lite
A very disappointing book. I have read many books on anxiety and panic disorder over the years, and this is one of the most useless. Nothing new here. The personal stories sound phony and are not in the least bit inspiring. The tone is irritating, as though it were written for 13 year olds - lots of "Yikes!" and "Fun!" Misery does not love company in this case. If you want to spend your money on something worthwhile, try "Overcoming Anxiety for Dummies," or anything by Edmund Bourne. There are loads of good books out there on panic and anxiety - just not this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars EASY ACCESS
I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK AND FOUND THE INFORMATION USEFUL AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND . THUS SAID I HAVE ALREADY PASSED MY COPY ON TO A RELATIVE WHOM I THINK IT MIGHT BE HELPFUL TO. CONSEQUENTLY I AM PURCHASING 2 MORE COPIES TODAY ONE FOR ME AND I'VE THOUGHT OF ANOTHER FRIEND WHO MIGHT FIND IT HELPFUL.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lilmac
As a sufferer of panic attacks, I found this book light hearted, funny and hopeful. The authors do not claim to be medical experts, only women who have experienced the same things many panic sufferers can relate to.Having done my share of research on panic attacks, I found this book compiled all the major information into one, easy to read resource. It made me laugh, but most of all, it made me feel normal.I would highly recommend this book as one of many resources to someone suffering from panic attacks.

5-0 out of 5 stars edmund bourne is a truly talented healer and therapist!
these books (by Edmund J Bourne) don't miss a thing. I was never diagnosed with anxiety disorder, my md hadn't heard about those disorders, and he'd run out of tests to do, and ideas. So,sometime later, when I read this book, everything fell into place, and I could then know what i needed to get(a qualified behaviourist) which i did. I'm still agoraphobic, but won't be for much longer. It's just when your md doesn't know- it wastes alot of time. These books go past informing and cover everything you need to make a recovery.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Comprehensive and Extremely Practical Guide
Dr. Bourne has an excellent track record for providing real help for real people, and this book is no exception. I always love it when a self-help author is willing to put his own story out there, and Dr. Bourne does so in a way that helps readers know that they are not alone with whatever degree or variety of anxiety that haunts them. 5-0 out of 5 stars A guarantee for better emotional well-being
Dr. Bernstein extends yet another strong and helpful hand in his most recent self-help book, "How to Deal with Emotionally Explosive People." This book helps me understand how to diffuse the emotional dynamite when dealing with over-reactive friends, depressed family members and grouchy co-workers. Each chapter reads true to life stories while the writer generously provides us with a solid ground of knowledge. It convinced me that, even in the most perplexing emotionally charged situations, I can be part of the solution instead of the problem. This is a book about building ones own emotional resilience. The real risk in using this book as prescribed is discovering what lies on the other side of our destructive patterns in human interactions and thought. 5-0 out of 5 stars Even veteran managers can learn from this

My son was recently diagnosed with GAD and associated issues that I struggled to understand. This book provides excellent insight to help lift the veil of confusion and help you begin the journey to understanding and recovery.

3-0 out of 5 stars Basic Info
This is the first book I've read about the topic of helping or caregiving for a loved one suffering with anxiety disorders. It was helpful on a general level and was a good starting place for me.I learned a little more about what the sufferer goes thru and how I might be unwittingly adding to their anxiety.I liked the author's writing style, which was very comfortable and much like getting information from a friend who's already been on this journey.

Ken Strong warns his readers not to be too quick to say, "Hey, that's me!" when just one or two of the symptoms he describes in his book seem to fit the reader. So, I started reading with the true intent of NOT reading too much into it.So, it was even more amazing to me when I found that just about every single symptom listed in this book describes me!I finally could identify my 'problem'.Being an anxious person my initial reaction was...ohmygod, I'm an anxious person, now what?!But, then I had an amazing sense of relief!I now know what needs attention in my life and WHY it is so important to do something/a lot of things to help myself right now. This book gave me so much peace of mind.Thank you Ken Strong for writing a reader-friendly book that may have just saved my life. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Getting the best treatment for depression, not just 'how to cope'
Any suffering from anxiety or depression will find plenty of books on the market about the topic - what makes THE PEACE OF MIND PERSCRIPTION: AN AUTHORITATIVE GUIDE TO FINDING THE MOST EFFECTIVE TREATMENT FOR ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION provides important information on how to get the best treatment, not just how to cope with the problem. Now available in paperback is a fine reference to the world of psychiatry which contrasts treatment approaches, links case history examples to illustrate points, and surveys both seasonal and medical depression. An important, essential guide any general collection should include.

3-0 out of 5 stars Why no discussion of nutrition?
Overall, this seems to be a good survey of ailments and <<medically approved>> treatment options. Unfortunately you will find no mention of amino acids, vitamins or minerals and their effect on the mind. Nor mention of sugar, a heavily abused substance that can darken one's mood. A caution against St. John's wort gets a couple pages, but otherwise nada. For the holistic alternatives you'll have to turn to books such as 'Mind Boosters' and 'The Way Up'. I'm disappointed that nutritional supplements are not given at least lip-service in a supposedly comprehensive work such as this. ... Read more

I am a professional in the healing arts, and over the years I've treated many clients who suffer from one form of anxiety disorder or another. Last year, one of my regulars got her hands on this book, and wow! She really showed tremendous improvement. She asked me if I would recommend it to my other clients, so I read it, and thought enough of it to suggest it to a few other clients with anxiety-related issues. So far, the word back has been totally positive. I'm embarassed to say it's taken me almost a year to get around to writing this review, but if it helps even one person with what I can vouch for being a particularly difficult problem to overcome, I've done my job. ... For me, "Stepping Out Of The Bubble" was reminiscent of the renowned books of author, M. Scott Peck, in the style of presenting profound insights into sensible, easy-to-understand language and clear ideas an average person can relate to.Practicing Licensed Professional Counselor and Nationally Certified Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist and author of "Stepping Out Of The Bubble", James Krehbiel proficiently shares a portion of his expertise, condensing great weight into accessible and workable solutions for a more fulfilling life's plan.

Stepping Out Of The Bubble by James P. Krehbiel, Is an outstanding book on Counseling Therapy. Krehbiel, is able to put life patterns and fears into perspective so that the lay person can fully understand the mystery that most think is behind counseling. His approach to show that so much of what we seek answers for is within ourselves and with the right counsellor we can become free and step out of the Bubble or Bubbles that a lot of us are in.
5-0 out of 5 stars Gaining Courage to Live Outside of the Bubble
James P. Krehbiel's Stepping Out of the Bubble was a fascinating read.I found myself underlining various passages. His explanation of how we get stuck in the bubble (comfort zone), and how we find our way out is powerful. It provided me with hope as I move through my own personal journey.I found myself experiencing an emotional reaction to many of the case examples and concepts he explored. He definitely hit some "hot buttons" in my life. But Mr. Krehbiel also provided specific guidelines and tools for stepping out of the bubble. At one point he says, "Courage can be defined by those who live outside the bubble as opposed to those who live in it.I like to compare stepping out of the bubble to wading into the water."

3-0 out of 5 stars This book gave me anxiety
I should have paid more attention to the small shrift in the title of "Poe's Heart and the Mountain Climber : Exploring the Effect of Anxiety on Our Brains and Our Culture" by Richard Restak. Generally, the book is Neither about Poe Nor about Mountain Climbers. IT IS ABOUT ANXIETY and is heavily geared toward scientific enthusiasts and/or medical students. I seriously believe that if an anxiety suffering patient picks up this book by the time he/she reaches the end, he/she would've experienced an increase in anxiety symptoms.
3-0 out of 5 stars Poe had more Wrong Than Anxiety.
I chose this book because E. A. Poe has always been one of my favorite writers, though most of his things are morbid. He used one of Poe's stories to show the consequences of abject anxiety (and guilt). Another of his recent renderings concerns Mozart's Brain.

Dr. Wagner's expertise comes alive in this practical guidebook for anyone who is trying to help an anxious child get up and over the "worry hill." The techniques are incredibly empowering for children of all ages and I have successfully used her step-by-step guidelines and easy to use forms. The children have really enjoyed the approaches and it has been a moving experience to watch them overcome their worse fears. I highly highly recommend this workbook and you will not be disappointed. ... Read more
