A Multi-purpose Referancnce Book
While I am not a professional in this feild I have found this book remarkably help full in in understanding what these human behaviours are, the theories behind them, some of the medications that are/have been usedin some cases and a few of the clinical studies that have been done in thisfeild.Read more

Extremely helpful
I bought these tapes three years ago and actually captured the cassettes into MP3 files so I could carry them around in my player and listen to them. They have been very helpful and well worth the money.

Good overview - not the best pick
Considering the fact that more than 280 peer-reviewed articles on panic disorder have been published since 1997, when Zuercher-White released her excellent book A Step-By-Step Clinical Guide to Treating Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia, an update of the literature is welcome. Synthesizing the results of such a large number of research papers (Panic Disorder contains more than 600 cited references) is a formidable task that students and clinicians have no time to do themselves.Read more

A Seriously Clever, USEFUL and Brilliant, Amazing Book
For those with friends, neighbours, colleagues and clients who have this paralysing panic problem, this is THE book that helps them - and fast. Great compassionate clear writing that cuts right to the core of this mysterious and misunderstood affliction and offers INSIGHTS and the WAY OUT of a kind of panic that can send people to emergency rooms or keep them trapped indoors or in limited routines. I've been to the ER with a friend who got hit with a sudden, panic disorder one evening: the doctors took hours doing a full workup before the diagnosis of panic disorder was made. I wish she'd had this book. I've since Panic disorder is no joke - it's real. Dr. Berman must be a great shrink, because there is real integrity and help on every page of this amazing little book. Helped me when professionals could not
This inexpensive book answered my questions on panic disorder that hundreds of dollars of psychotherapy time could not. It is a pleasure to read and helped me so much back in '94. His emphasis on behavioral therapy is very helpful. I wish this were still in print. I donated my copy to the library as I only suffer panic when I don't live right.

Book is 10 years old, but good primer, misses recent drugs.
My review of the book The Good news about panic, anxiety, and phobias by Mark Gold.I found this book easy to read and covers a broad range of anxiety disorders.Right from the start though I was wishing for the "good news". Of course the good news is that anxiety disorders are the number onemental health problem among women and are second only to drug and alcoholabuse among men.I wish it gave the good news earlier in the book as ittakes some reading to discover this news.He points out that its not yourfault and that your condition can be treated and in many cases cured.Evenif you haven't responded to treatment in the past don't despair, Inreality, its not the patient that fails the treatment but the treatmentthat fails the patient. This book is essential reading if you have panic disorder

You Are Not Alone!
This is my first time reviewing a book on Amazon, despite the fact I'm an avid reader and am periodically enamored with a particular book.I'm writing this review because I have wanted to say "thank you" to the author for many years for writing it.Having suffered on and off with panic disorder since I was 12 (I'm now 40), I had never encountered anyone who really knew what I was going through until I read this book.When times are difficult, it is still a consolation and comfort to think about this book and know that I am not alone.I appreciate the courage, humor and compassion of the author so much!

I Am Not Alone
This great book chronicled a life of pain, renewal and hope.I too, have suffered with panic disorder my entire life.It was so nice to find a book that didn't promise you ten easy cures because I have never found them.I have learned to live my life with medication that according to my doctor, I will take forever.I am a high powered career woman, wife, mother and live a good life.It is through books like this, we see that we are not alone, we are valuable human beings with a condition not unlike diabetes or high blood pressure.Kudos to you, Evelyn!
