1-0 out of 5 stars Pate: Whatever that is?!
This short treatise on the causes of and remedies for thinning hair ranks at the top of my list of all-time worthless and pretentious bunk. In short, the author holds that thinning hair is caused by combing your locks thewrong way. Too much and in the wrong direction, and it falls out. Forgetabout other causes: like malnutrition, emotional stress, hormonalimbalance, heredity, environmental toxicity, aging, etc.Just brush itbackwards and watch your sink fill with loose hairs. Don't waste your timeand money on this bald and toothless argument wearing a false and floweryacademic wig.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book! Keep up the good work Dad.

5-0 out of 5 stars A short & sad tale very characteristic of Norway and Christensen's writing
Straight away when you start reading this book, you notice Saabye Christensen's wonderful language. He creates a wonderful and melancholic atmosphere with his words, and this is his best ability. I've read most of his books, and he is probably Norway's best contemporary author. His stories all center around the Oslo where he grew up, and its like a journey back into the real Norway, unlike the hellhole Norway has become today. The story centers around little Herman, who as still a child on the verge of puberty starts loosing his hair. Many both sad and amusing situations arise from this, all very in the spirit of Christensen's other books. I especially enjoyed the parts where the relationship between Herman and his grandfather, very beautiful and it made me smile many times. Saabye Christensen is probably the best Norwegian author when it comes to describing childhood from the viewpoint of the child, along with Tarjei Vesaas. A beautiful book, that was also made into a good movie with the same name. Recommended!
5-0 out of 5 stars Hermann
A very interesting exposition on Norwegian culture is perhaps the lesser strength of 'Hermann'. More importantly is this bookmore moving, uplifting and entertaining than much else that can be read about Norway. I'd recommend this to those who have no interest in Scandinavia and would suggest it as a must-read for those who have.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful story
Herman is a wonderful story about a young boy in Oslo, Norway, who start losing his hair. And there`s this little girl with the most outstandig read hair that he falls in love with. It`s a most charming story, and I`ve readthe book twice and seen the movie three times, and I`ve named my first sonHerman. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pulled some punches for legal reasons
The author had to disguise the name of the clinic that botched his surgery, for legal reasons. However you can see their commercials on TV every day of the week. I hope this book alerts more people about the scammers doing hair tranplants

3-0 out of 5 stars Inflammatory Title
Interesting account of ones personal experience through the emotional and complicated process of hair transplant surgery. The book is written as a narrative tale that clearly depicts the difficult decisions a patient mustmake in pursuing hair transplant surgery.Unfortunately, there is littleinformation concerning the actual outcome and results of the process- whichmay be the most important issue."What the doctors do not want you toknow" was not clearly discussed.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Truth at Last

3-0 out of 5 stars Mostly geared toward Areata sufferers
This book is mainly geared toward alopecia areata (AA) sufferers, not genetic (androgenic) alopecia sufferers. It contains lots of stories of sufferers, including the author's.The stories are somewhat interesting at first, but get dull rather quickly. There is some information about treatments, however, but it is not as informative as the books by Kobren or as comprehensive as the one by Greenwood-Robinson (if you're a woman). But, if you suffer from AA, then it might be appropriate to read the author's.5-0 out of 5 stars the bold truth

4-0 out of 5 stars D*ck Lit for the Intelligencia? Zeppelin for the Masses?
Shortly after we published BALD, the two Seattle newspapers came out with featured reviews that proved the old adage that there's no accounting for taste(lessness). The Seattle P-I book editor said reading "Harper's ambling, shambling recounting of a proofreader's nights of suds and days of words...[was] akin to being locked in a cell for endless hours with a High Life Slacker." The Seattle Times called it "funny as all get-out, in a droll, self-deprecating way."
5-0 out of 5 stars Related to everything . . .
Baldness is the root of all strife in the world (well: maybe circumcision plays a role too [quiz: what does the current American-Israeli-Islamic trifecta all have in common? hint: they practice high rates of infant something]). In any case, men are at fault, and if you're a very sensitive man it's hard not to feel like a jerk sometimes. Moreover, it's hard to come to the realization that, without lots of money in the bank, we're all on a downhill slope after twenty-five, like it or not. Rain will never feel as good on our skin again. Music will never sound so primal. Nobody will love us for purely animal reasons again. Fortunately, there's the joy of reflection, aided by the extraordinary recorded legacy of the twentieth century (i.e., records, tapes, CDs, DVDs). And, even better, there's beer. It turns any grown man into a kid again. Recovery? That will have to wait. . . . Read this book to come away with some veritas and to live vicariously through the life of a valedictorian who preferred not to join the rat race. Recommended even for those of us who are nearly forty or even older.

5-0 out of 5 stars Freedom of speech
It seems as if someone is making an all-out attempt to promote the idea that the human condition is absurd precisely because some men lose their hair (even if they're otherwise perfectly healthy?!). I think this is pretty funny. And it's a lot nicer than trying to promote Intelligent Design or tax cuts for the superrich. In any case, everybody is entitled to an opinion.
