Terrific and important information
This book is a must if you are suffering from any hormonal imbalances.It is informative and well written.There are side bars with recaps to summarize the chapter that are really helpful. I'm taking notes and going to see my endocrinologist to discuss my options with my hormonal vurnerablities.

every woman MUST read this book!!
Having read the book, Hormonally Vulnerable Women, and a number of other lesser, yet respected books, it quickly becomes clear who has the upper hand of insight and education when it comes to hair loss.
A book that really gives good info about hormones
Dr. Redmond's book is one of the best I've read on the subject of women's hormones.Especially at menopause, women's hormones go haywire and cause all kinds of health problems.Dr. Redmond's knowledge gave me new resourses to try and I can't recommend this book enough for women going through the change and for all women who want to learn more about how they can help themselves feel better by understanding what their hormones are doing to them and why. ... ***Great Book***
Anya (aged 10) has a diease (which I can not spell)that makes her allergic to her own hair. So she starts losing all her hair. Right before she goes back to school after Christmas Break she gets a wig. Some girls notice her wig and Stef tells girls in her Clique to tug on it. Keely feels bad, so she doesn't do it. One day in Gym Class Anya does 5 sommersaults in a row in front of the whole class and on her 5th one her wig fell off. Anya just wants to be alone and refuses to go back to school, until......... ( you must read the book to find out the end)

Anya
The main character in this story is Anya, she is always shy and very worried that her wig will fall off.Anya feels like she is being left out because she thinks running, bending over, shaking her head, and even standing up to fast will make her wig fall off.At the beginning of the book, a girl named Keely is sitting in school, she gets a note passed to her by a girl named Stef.Stef has been Keely's friend for five years, but Keely doesn't remember how they became friends.Stef is very bossy and Keely wonders how Stef can have friends when all she does to them is boss them around and tell them her ideas.Keely feels that she should stand up to Stef, but she just isn't brave enough.Stef has two other friends, their names are Tory and Nichole.The book doesn't tell much about these characters, but it does tell us that they are Stef's best firends.The book doesn't tell us a lot about any of the character's parents either.I really enjoyed this book by Margaret Peterson Haddix and I hope other people will, too. ... Warning - don't read this book unless you're an insomniac
After reading this book I can tell you this, Stanley Kobren is certainly no expert on hair loss, but he is good at making his readers fall asleep. The book has no meaningful insight and most of the information is written mostly on a grammer school level. Don't even waste your time reading this book if you're serious about avoiding hair loss.

Doesn't even cover the basics
This is an extremely superficial book on hair loss. You can find out more on the internet in about 15 minutes than you can by reading this book. Nearly half of the book is devoted to transplants, wigs, etc. rather than talking about WHY people lose hair and what can be done about it short of these drastic measures. So many women suffer from hair loss that is treatable and this book does not offer any real help or advice. Stick to the internet and the wealth of knowledge available on hair loss sites.

Somewhat helpful
Although I liked this book, I already knew most of the information that it contained. I was somewhat disappointed that the book did not have many specific recommendations for hair loss products, i.e.: dosages, amounts,application procedures. The book also spent way too much time discussinghair transplants which are not an alternative for most women due to diffusehair loss and unstable donor sites. The book gives far too few doctorrecommendation and once again, the doctors recommended were mostly hairtransplant specialist. Good overview
A really good overview for those newly diagnosed (or friends, family thereof).Provides sufficient information that an alopecia sufferer is unlikely to pursue quacky, expensive, ineffective treatments.Also includes psychological impacts of the condition.Skip the other books about Alopecia (I've read them all).This is the best there is.

Excellent, easy to read, easy to understand, inspiring
As a person recently diagnosed with Alopecia Universalis (all body), I found this book to be very informative, as well as easy to read and understand. a very thorough "lay person's" textbook for dealing with AA
This is a very informative book dealing with the many physical and psychological aspects of alopecia areata. huge help
I thought this book was really great, easy to follow and I loved that in different sections they would actually outline treatments recommended by various hair specialists around the country. The only drawback is that the book is now 6 years old and should probably be updated. We're ready for a second edition!
Enormously Helpful
If you're a woman who is in a panic after recently discovering hair loss (thinning or baldness), this is the book for you. It gives a good, basic overview of medical and alternative therapies and hair care, grooming, and cosmetic issues. Also, it suggests how to talk to your doctor about hair loss and what questions, tests, and physical examinations your doctor should respond with. Heads
This book is one of my favorites. It is a book full of photographs of human heads, with no hair or makeup. I could look at this book for hours! You will never tire of looking at them. Heads are always disguised in public under elaboratley fussed-with hair and a bunch of makeup. This book is oddly satisfying by showing simply a natural human head. They are very beautiful.

it changed my life

Excellent source for valuable info on hair-loss treatment options
This is a very well researched source of information on various types of hair-loss treatment. The author speaks from experience with successfully combating hair loss after extensive research on various products. I think that makes the book more credible than the self-promoting product sites out there. The author covers virtually all of the effective methods of hair loss treatment, including Propecia, herbal suppliments, topical solutions (monoxidil etc), hair transplants, and more. A must buy for all those interested in knowing pretty much all there is to know about hair loss treatment options, their effectiveness, pros and cons, etc.

Disappointing
This book is largely a regurgitation of the very limited information that is already widely available. Reading it was superfluous. Most of what Kobren covers is cosmetic management of the problem; the advice on diet applies only to the worst lifestyle offenders, and he paints finasteride (Propecia) as a panacea, which it definitely isn't. The book is thin, both physically and in terms of content. Save Your Hair & Your Money
I disagree with the author.First, Propecia grows hair in one area at the expense of another.Spironolactone has been proven to stop the growth of hair.DHT does not cause hair loss.Spencer does not even mention the nutrient theory of baldness and how many people have been regrowing scalp hair by removing body hair, allowing nutrients to get to the scalp. Keep your money
I didn't think this book was very helpful. It was published in 1998 so the information is pretty old. As most people acknowledge, I would have to rate author Daniel Lawrence's "Ultimate Hair Loss Guide" as the best book you can presently buy concerning hair loss information.

Useful book but focused on one product
Dr Walker's book is about the usage of a certain product to stop hair loss. I was expecting more objective information; sometimes it looks more like publicity than a scientific review of hair loss treatments. Anyway, Irate it 3 stars because there are good chapters about what hair is, itsphases, and nutrition advice. Compared to "The Bald Truth" bySpencer David Kobren, "Bald No More" comes second. ... Easy to understand
I have read a few books on hair loss and I must say that this one was the easiest to read by far. It uses basic medical terms and is clearly written for someone who is new to hair loss and wanting to find a solution. If you are looking for facts is an easy-to-read format, then this book is for you.

A Must Read
Bald as a Bean: The Experience of Sudden Hair Loss is at the top of my must read list. The author, Nancy Parsons, draws the reader into a world turned upside down when she is diagnosed with the disease, alopecia areata totalis universalis. (total hair loss over the entire body)

okay book
This book is well writen but mainly talks about hair transplants and drugs. It doesnt really cover natural approaches to hairloss, the author doesnt address the home remedies and vitamins you can take for hairloss. I found "Grow hair fast" by Riqutte Hoffstien a much better source of information and HIGHLY effective treatments. an awsome book that really works.

Very outdated material
This book is very outdated in content and is of little use to present day hair loss sufferers. Don't waste the money on it like I did. You're better off reading a more thorough and accurate book. I personally found author Daniel Lawrence's new book on hair loss gave me the most up to date information on current treatments.

Peters shows balding is part of a bigger health problem.
