2-0 out of 5 stars Health Does Not Come from Self-Hatred
While everyone should eat healthily and moderately, Ms. Green's book reflects the toxic attitude in our society toward people of size, and anyone who looks different.
1-0 out of 5 stars So terrifying - DO NOT DIET LIKE THIS AUTHOR
This is the second time I've read this book - I read it the first time well over a year ago (before I changed my life, stopped eating junk and lost 50+ lbs by eating healthy, whole foods). I don't remember being strongly moved by it, I know I was hopelessly depressed and dreaming of being thin.
5-0 out of 5 stars Diary Of A Fat Housewife
This book is one that I keep coming back to over and over again each time I get off track with my diet and need true motivation. I see Rosemary's struggles and can see them in my life as well. We all know that we don't always get the support to lose that we need and she is candid about this. She offers advise for how loved ones can help the obese. I know that Rosemary has kept her weight off for several years and that is a huge motivation for me to know that she did it and I can too...once I get to goal. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A poisoned perfume
Call a teaching "ancient" and "Eastern" and Westerners automatically assume it is positive and beneficial. It is true that the East has carried many secret traditions and it is true that there is a secret knowledge related to sexuality, but it is equally true that there are secret traditions of black magic and negative sexual practices.Taoist Alchemy (the subject of this book) is sprouted from the same root as Western Alchemy, and on both branches there have been White and Black schools.Unfortunately, innocent people do not realize there is a dinstinction between the two, and many have been seduced into theories and doctrines that speak of Love and Harmony and Health and even Immortality, but which are essential Black teachings (Black meaning "negative" or "Left-hand" schools).Know this: Taoist Alchemy is a tree of many branches, and there are many variants of the teachings, all of which use the same terms and concepts and sound very esoteric and impressive. All promise the Awakening of the Consciousness. But the Consciousness can be awakened postively, in the Light, or negatively, in the Darkness; and few Black schools call themselves Black. How do you tell the difference?Black schools recommend the students enjoy the orgasm.Grey Alchemists recommend the occasional spilling of the sexual energy.White Alchemists demand the complete renunciation of the orgasm.Of course, White Alchemy (Tantra) will not sell as many books, or attract many students, because this modern humanity is so identified with satisifying their desires."For the way is wide and easy that leads to destruction."Sexual Energy is the most potent form of energy that exists; White Taoists conserve to rise to heaven.Black Taoists spill it to sink into the abyss. And the Grey ones are lukewarm, and invariably make no real progress. What's worse: the Black Taoists teach their students to conserve the energy for certain periods of time so that the instructor can use the student as a battery. This is called Vampirism. For more information, read "The Mystery of the Golden Blossom" or "The Perfect Matrimony" by Samael Aun Weor.

Like most material that comes to us in life, ones personal Self is important, in my belief, to maintain, and not turn to someone elses experience in words or written material for complete and utter guidance. If one reads this book looking for complete assurance of infrormation and guidance in their sexual life, then you may be dissapointed. If you are looking for material that uses complex and redundant information, that will give the illusion the author possesses the expertise, this may not be the book for you. I personally feel that here is a man who has been taught deeply through his own personal experience with his teachers, has been schooled in this subject in a way that most of us today do not learn,as an apprentice in life,as a process that he actually went through himself , not by sitting in a classroom and being 'educated' from data in a book being spoken by a professor. To me, this personal learning experience of life from teacher to student is priceless. This book was written from such an exchange and is true. The writing may be basic, but what is essential to you?Is it the words you read or the what comes through, 'between the lines'? What is Sifu McNeilreally trying to communicate? He is reminding us that sexual relationships are about two people equally, the giving and recieveing needs to be balanced between lovers, it is not about only pleasing the man or only pleasing the woman, but the beauty that will flow betweenboth if there is respect, communication and listening.I appreciate the simple and honest way this book is written, it is straight forward and may be brash for some people, for he is not hiding behind big words.5-0 out of 5 stars Review of J. Mcneils Latest Book
Having had an interest in Taoist philosophy and longevity techniques for several years, I found this book to be ideal. Mcneil's understanding of the subject can be seen because whilst other books tend to make this subjectoverly complex and longwinded, leaving the layman with a lot of homework todo to get round the circumlative language, this book is 'esoteric jargonfree'.Theories which I have spent years studying and trying to understandwere explained and turned out to not be so complex after all. The sign of atrue master of any discipline is in his/her capacity to explain the subjectin a down to earth manner to the average person, this book achieve thisaim.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a miracle in print
This is a clearly written book which is taken from A COURSE IN MIRACLES and helps you to lose the ego and when this happens you can begin to eat normally and eventually get to a healthy weight, not a weight loss book a life book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not only for the overweight
I have reviewed this book two times previously but for some reason they were not posted. Maybe the third time will be the charm...I think any serious Course student would benefit from reading this book for we all have issues with food though maybe not a weight problem. In addition, the issues raised in this small book are applicable to all addictions, obessesions and problems. And it is still in print and available if you look around. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Self-Famine
Dennis shares his pain and suffering from self-famine in such a courageous raw and vulnerable fashion.Unfotunately, so few men have shared their experience of suffering from eating disorder behavior and this book helps fill in much needed and long awaited personal recovery by a male.My hope is that his honnesty and life-learned wisdom can help others seek solutions to their own healing and perhaps along their journey, utilize some of Dennis's ideas as a template. I felt empathy, hope, and joy as Dennis shared his story of recovery.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for all males with any issues about self worth!
An eye opening book!Raw honesty that was spine chilling.I admired Dennis' openess in telling his story and believe it will help others to come out from "underneath the table."Even if a male does not have an eating disorder, but has issues about his appearance, physique, masculinity and self-worth, this book will shake him awake and help him focus on what really matters in life.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Power of Experience
Through the power of his experience, Dennis Henning has written a very personal story about his battle with an eating disorder. His story is a stunning display of a long-practiced dysfuntion and--thank God!--an equally stunning recovery.Henning reveals his own private road to hell. Eating and purging became a way of life. As his life spun out of control, he also became addicted to sex.Everybody else was to blame for his problems which, as time went on, included prostitution, stealing, lying, manipulating--anything to numb the emotional pain of his self-hate and doubt.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book helps a patient take charge of his own treatment.
This book is a great source of valuable and very up-to-date information on prostate problems. More importantly, perhaps, this book is written by someone who clearly understands both medicine and patients - as demonstrated by these excerpts: "Always bear in mind ... that you're in charge. The doctor is only your advisor." (p51) "The doctor is not God and does not have all the answers. However, the best doctor will have a lot of information, experience, and wisdom from which you can draw when making your choices." (p220) "Don't let your doctor decide for you, or talk you into or out of anything. It's your health and your body, so it's your choice." (p145) "The best patient communicates well, and demands the best from his doctors." (p166) "It's the patients who give their doctors the most trouble, the ones who challenge treatment choices, who ask the most questions, and who refuse to play helpless that do the best." (p174) I whole-heartedly recommend this book to anyone interested in the Prostate. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Collection of Workouts from Men's Health Magazine
This book delivers what it promises: A Collection of total Body Workouts.
5-0 out of 5 stars total body workout
I like this book. It gives you two dozen posters for working out that vary from fat burning to building power . Another reviewer thought that they should have workouts for specific body parts ( ie, triceps , biceps , etc .) . I felt the opposite - they should have focused more on total body workouts only . Maybe a compromise, maybe they should make two books - one for power or serious bodybuilders and one for people who wanta trim and lean physique - including circuit training , for traveling , the ball , body weight and medicine ball workouts .
3-0 out of 5 stars Great book idea - decent product
The pictures and descriptions of the exercises are great, as are the exercise plans provided. The only negative I could find is that the posters seem to have random exercises on them.I was expecting a poster for triceps, a page for quads, a page for shoulders, etc...The book seems to be aimed more at short, effective, total-body workouts. This is cool, but if you are looking for posters to lead you through intensely precise exercises for particular body parts, there are a limited number of posters to that effect. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars I couldn't agree with you more, ()
() Forget MJ, forget coke, forget crack, forget even ALCOHOL AND CIG'S, the most overused and overABUSED substance in the country (perhaps even the WORLD) is FOOD....More often than not, food is exploited as a drug if you reallythink about it.It is NOT meant to substitute emotion or love, and it isMOST CERTAINLY not designated as some wonder drug that gives you an instant"high"...Food is meant as fuel to a person as gas is to avehicle. This is something the book has allowed me to realize. It has alsohelped me realized that we have been conditioned most our lives by societyto signify/express our emotions even social habits via food and that's onenasty habit....I have now broken free from the cycle of emotional eatingthanks to this book...And know that if ever I "crave" a certainfood, it's really an EMOTION INSIDE OF ME that needs "feeding".And that yes it IS possible to outlet your emotions WITHOUT having toresort to eating your way out of your bad feelings. Life is WAY too shortto spend time thinking about what you're HUNGRY FOR. These are things thatthe book has opened my mind to discover....And if you too accept the book'sofferings with an open mind, it could very well benefit you as it hasmyself.

3-0 out of 5 stars I'm "CRAVING" to buy this book!
If the San Diego reader IS NOT able to "enjoy the moment" without the aid of FOOD, then this book is ESPECIALLY for that person...I haven't even bought the book yet and already I am relating what Ms. Virtueis trying to convey...I heard about her and her book from a magazinearticle she wrote in "Woman's Own" magazine, much of the articlewas excerpts from the book. I am SO amazed of how ACCURATE she is withspecific food cravings and it's emotional connection!I look back and seethat whenever I DID crave a certain food like FUDGE, CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM oreven BREAD AND BUTTER that deep down I really DID feel the feelings shewrites about!I never paid attention to it before since I thought cravinga particular food had nothing to do with how I felt. I always knew therewas some connection between food and emotion and how it can sometimesinfluence HOW you eat, but never knew that it had any INFLUENCE on WHAT YOUEAT! I mean, this is DEEP STUFF. Now I will think twice before indulgingin BROWNIES...This book teaches you to KNOW what is triggering the cravingso it can be stopped at the source and no longer try to "shut up"how you feel by stuffing the discomfort with food. This book tries to teachyou to NOT be like that San Diego reader by using FOOD AS A CRUTCH. I havegiven the book a neutral rating as I do not HAVE it *DUH* but I know assure as hell that I WILL BUY IT!

1-0 out of 5 stars I'm craving a more helpful book
If I want a 3 Musketeers bar, repeating the affirmation "I enjoy this moment now" is not going to help me.I won't enjoy the moment until I have a 3 Musketeers bar!How about telling me an alternate, healthy food Ican eat that nullifies whatever internal chemical reaction causes thecraving?Don't buy this book if that's the information you're looking for. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent herbal for males & females
This is a classic herbal, a must for anyone looking for holistic health & healing information.I recommend it to males & females.I use it in the college level health courses I teach to introduce students to the concept of holistic health & natural whole food nutrition. It is a great book!

2-0 out of 5 stars Prostate, anyone?
I bought this book in an attempt to locate herbal remedies specifically designed for my husband in mind. That is not what I found with this book. This book has two primary themes throughout the whole book: Prostate and erectile dysfunction. There are almost little to no remedies for men that are not prostate nor erectile dysfunction related. I understand that those are two concerns for men. If that is what you are seeking in a book, then the "Male Herbal" is for you. If you, like me, are looking for a book with more helpful remedies I suggest that, like me, you look elsewhere.

James Green has created an exhaustive index of herbs in a book I've gone back to hundreds of times.Very readable and down-to-earth, James combines good science with great advice.Includes much information of male-specific maladies (e.g. prostate) and insights into lifestyles that contribute to problems. Many recipies for daily herbal health-maintanance are tried and true.Simply the best and my personal favorite. ... What a great book. After reading this book I feel like I want to just throw away all of my clothes and start fresh. It is a fun and noteworthy read.Enjoyable and lavishly illustrated.I really found this a wonderful book.It is not the kind of book that you would read in one sitting, but rather a book that you will refer to throughout your life.If you are a Cary Grant wanna-be this book is for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars The best for seed implant understanding, plus more
This book is the best I've seen on seed implant therapy, enabling patients to understand it, and answering questions. That's not surprising as the editors, who also co-author several chapters, are among the national leaders in implementing and researching this technology. The book also takes a comprehensive look at other therapies, with leading doctors contributing. Its viewpoint and language are patient-friendly.However, there are a few areas where the coverage is thin.As veteran of intermittent triple androgen deprivation, now a five year survivor, I would have liked more on blockade as a pre-and post-therapy booster, mentioning tradeoff decision tools like the Kattan nomogram from Memorial Sloan Kettering. While Proscar was described as sometimes causing ED problems, the book did not mention that usually it does not, even increasing testosterone often when used without the heavy-duty blockade drugs. The book does not mention blockade as primary therapy, but this is understandable as that has not yet been extensively documented.A good chapter on nutrition and supplements does not note several sobering, cautionary studies on use of flaxseed oil.It also effectively brushes off selenium, omitting persuasive evidence of safety at 200 mcg, and not noting that large areas of the country are deficient in this key nutrient. It does not capture late-breaking studies that have further emphasized the role of lycopene, likely due to press deadlines. However, these are relatively minor matters for a book that will be a great help to many patients and their supporters.I would strongly recommend this book, especially the chapters on seeds.
5-0 out of 5 stars Must read for anyone diagnosed with Prostate Cancer
While this book covers all aspects of prostate cancer, it focusses heavily on seed implantation. Its a great resource for this. I've been treated by one of the authors in Seattle. This book can help you evaluate different treatment options with the up-to-date facts.

5-0 out of 5 stars HereareAnswers to Most Questions about Prostate Cancer
I wish this book had been available when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2003.Like many men who suddenly learn they have prostate cancer, I had a thousand questions and spent countless hours searching the Internet and libraries for some answers. This newly-published guide will greatly reduce the emotional turmoil of men (and their loved ones) who are anxiously seeking information about prostate cancer and the choice of treatments to fight this life-threatening disease.Read more

This books gives a unique view of people of all types and walks of life struggling with AIDS. Dr. Klitzman has brought out an honesty in these people that is both moving and uplifting. A wonderful and important book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Positive Attitude
A very good read for positive and negative people, although the research and interviews were done in America, it is all equally relevant to the Australian community and elsewhere in the world. Dr Klitzman does notforget that every statistic has a human face behind it and a story that isas important as any ever told. I look forward to reading more from thisauthor !. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Keep your money
I didn't think this book was very helpful. It was published in 1998 so the information is pretty old. As most people acknowledge, I would have to rate author Daniel Lawrence's "Ultimate Hair Loss Guide" as the best book you can presently buy concerning hair loss information.

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful book but focused on one product
Dr Walker's book is about the usage of a certain product to stop hair loss. I was expecting more objective information; sometimes it looks more like publicity than a scientific review of hair loss treatments. Anyway, Irate it 3 stars because there are good chapters about what hair is, itsphases, and nutrition advice. Compared to "The Bald Truth" bySpencer David Kobren, "Bald No More" comes second. ...
