Still Feels Current 19 Years Later
I have not quite finished reading this book but am very excited about it.It really is a good comprehensive guide for men.These are difficult lessons for men to digest and they are presented fairly straightforwardly and in a manner that is simple to understand.Despite the fact that the book is almost twenty years old, it is one of the few where I find the illustrations do not seem particularly out of date.On one point I may have to disagree with Ms Jackson.She states that a man should not mix three patterns when wearing a suit, shirt, and tie.I find that in modern dress, this can distinguish the men from the boys.I do agree that this is somehting that not all men will be able to do effectively so it may be best to avoid it (which may be the authors point in discouraging it).If you want to go one step beyond this book, pick up Alan Flusser's Style and the Man.With these two resources, you will have no excuse for not looking your best every day.

Absolutely brilliant book for men
This is a great style book for men since there are few good ones out there for us and, if we spend too much time thinking about it, some people think we're you know what! A book that no man that wears clothes should be without...
I've bought several 'men's guide to fashion' books over the last couple of years, and this is simply the best book on this subject I've ever read. This book will help you determine what you look best in (colors, fit, etc.), and how to coordinate your purchases so that everything you buy will go with everything else. Good Resource to Understand How You End up with Your Issues
I remember reading this book over and over again at one point of life, but in retrospect, this book traumatized me in a realization of the issues I was dealing with at the time. I would call this type of book "pathology book" in stead of calling it "recovery book." It helps to understand why certain issues arise, but in life, what you do about it is more important than understanding it. This book left me so sad without a lead to a hope of living. The solution suggested in this book was not effective to me. It would have been better if a book had pathology part and EFFECTIVE treatment part.
A much needed prescription for victims
Thank you, Mr. Farmer, for recognizing that the hurt doesn't stop once the abuse does; for me, coping with it as an adult was more difficult than as a child because I now realize with an adult's intelligence and insight, exactly what was being done to me and how horrible it was. So much abuse is undetected until the child grows up and realizes that no, this isn't normal (I didn't realize all families weren't like this) and it WAS wrong. Too many well-meaning people minimize the adult survivor's pain or dismiss it as meaningless: "that was years ago and it's over" "get over it and move on" or the worst, "Just don't dwell on it anymore." If you haven't been abused, you don't get it and never will. thank you, Mr. Farmer, for not only understanding, but for showing us a way out. Unexplained Infertility ??? -- Buy this Book

I've never learned so much from one book
My wife to be loves taking charge and now that I've learned the ins and outs of anal pleasure our time together is better than ever.She has always loved using devices on me, but prior to reading this book it was often too unpleasant to enjoy.A little pain good, but too much is too much.This book helped her learn how to deliver, and me to receive, in such a way we hardly have a reason to leave the house anymore.

a must-read for every woman
Around the time I began using The Pill, a friend mentioned the fertility awareness method, FAM, to me. I wrote it off as the infamous "rhythm method." A year later, desperate to come off the Pill (not a good experience for me), I decided that FAM might be worth looking into.

Eye Opener
This book was a real eye opener for me.I had no idea about some of the topics discussed in most of these chapters.No diet or lifestyle change works over night, and I think that this book helpsexplain that in the simplest way.

OK, for what it is.
This is the same stuff one finds in the women's magazines at the checkouts or maybe this is where they may have got some of their articles.The "why do you eat" quiz was my favourite part of the book & helpful.I have lent this to other friends & they liked it as well.Evidentlty they don't buy women's magazine .All in all a so-so addition to my library.

Maybe for someone with more control!
I didn't find this book very helpful at all, I think it would be more helpful for someone with more control over their eating.For someone who struggles with deeper issues with food however, not very helpful.The suggestions are good, but it's just not that simple for everyone, as much as I tried! ... ***Great Book***
Anya (aged 10) has a diease (which I can not spell)that makes her allergic to her own hair. So she starts losing all her hair. Right before she goes back to school after Christmas Break she gets a wig. Some girls notice her wig and Stef tells girls in her Clique to tug on it. Keely feels bad, so she doesn't do it. The Secrets Exposed
Author Claude-Pierre explains in layman's terms the mechanics of eating disorders. This greatly helped me to understand the mindset of the sufferer and seriousness of these types of disorders. The book offers a through explanation of symptoms, who is at risk, treatment, advice and support to family and friends of sufferers. In addition, there are some excellent references for reading materials and websites for help and support.

Life Saving
All my life I've hated the way my body looked like.I hated my body so much, that by the age of twelve, I just decided to give up on it.This is when a deep depression set in.I began contemplating suicide, cutting myself, and eating for comfort.As the years passed on with self-destructive behaviors, I gained a good amount of weight.By the age of fourteen I weighted 145 lbs.
very disappointing
I found this book to be almost annoying in the level of arrogance the author exuded in her writing.She has absolutely no training in psychology apart from the fact that her daughters struggled with eating disorders.This book did not reveal any new insights or cures.I find it appalling how little training she has in the arena of eating disorders and yet feels qualified to open a clinic and write a book.She does not back any of her statements up with scientific data, and the book seems to be trying to sell her clinic more than inform others on how to help those struggling with eating disorders. ... A helpful book,Prostate a guide for men, Fred Felkins husband of Joan Felkins
This book was refered to me when I was told that I told that I had Prostate cancer by a doctor.The doctor informed me that most men do not understand what the prostate does and how it operates.I read the book and achieved a better understanding of what I was facing.My wife did not read the entire book but did read certain parts and used this to support me in this time. I would recommend that every man over 50 beg, borrow or buy this book, read it, study it and visit with their doctor and get a yearly check up.I am a five year survial of Prostate cancer and every 6 months when the doctor tells me that it is still in remission I rejoice.

This book is fantastic.The authors dispell many myths surrounding the differing nutrional and exercise needs of men and women.It may come as a shock to many, especially the editors of the Library Journal, that men and women are indeed different.

The BEST book for beginning IVFers!!:)
I wish I would of found this book first!It's an easy read with so much valuable information.It covers everything from IVF lingo to sample cycles AND gives great commentary from women and men who have survived & succeeded with IVF.I couldn't put it down & constantly found myself sharing interesting info from the book with my husband.You won't be disappointed with this one!!!
Good Info, But Trite and Patronising
The book is filled with good definitions about the winding road that is IVF-fertility treatment is packed with acronyms, abbreviations, and science, and the author does do a good job of explaining what all of the acronyms and abbreviations are.The book flows well and has wit, but the constant underlying message is one of success!IVF succeeds!Just keep your legs in the air/take to bed rest/keep thinking smiley happy positive thoughts and it always works!As someone who's been through a few rounds of IVF and ongoing still, it's not that easy for most people.IVF is hard enough without infusing constant messages of false hope-I feel the author is irresponsible in suggesting that IVF can be otherwise.

A valuable perspective!
There seems to be some vastly differing opinions on this book and what it actually says.
Gave Me Hope
My husband found Inconceivable while searching Amazon.com for a book that might help me deal with the devastation and hopelessness I was feeling after 3 failed in-vetro attempts.When I first started reading it, I was a little bitter because the author already had a child and was just frustrated because she could not seem to get pregnant with a second child.Being desperate for a first child, I wondered how someone who already has a child could possibly help me, but I kept reading, and after a couple chapters, I realized what her real message is....trust your instincts, your eating habits DO matter, and open your mind to actively research alternative options in addition to the conventional.The bottom line is to do what you think is right for you.What an empowering feeling!

Excellent for the Newly Informed Cancer Patient, BUT CAUTION!
I freaked out when I was told by my urologist, just a few months ago, that my biopsy showed prostate cancer and---by the way---would I like to be put on his surgery schedule for next month!This is a fabulous book and one I throughly recommend for the newly diagnosed man who is reeling from the shock of getting this rotten news and not sure what to do.HOWEVER, the book is written by an American surgeon and that means a heavy bias toward treatment for everyone (even low risk cancers) and preferably surgery.It turned out, in my case, that the cancer is less aggressive than my urologist was leading me to believe (get that second opinion!).Monitoring the cancer for changes is a defensible strategy for avoiding the awful side effects of ANY of the treatments for prostate cancer, if your cancer is at a low to medium risk.All that said, this is still a great book and covers most all the bases.

Very Informative Primer on Prostate Cancer
My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1999.He has had two cryo ablation procedures and yet still has the cancer (confined to the prostate).Having worked for a well-known urologist for many years, I feel Dr. Lange's book is the best literature we have read over the years and has helped answer the many questions we have had in language my husband can understand.Our urologist, however, spends a great deal of time with us explaining everything.

Everything you (or your partner) needs to know
This book covers prostate cancer from the prospective of a surgeon who treats the disease and who admits that he was terrified when he was diagnosed with it himself. Prostate Cancer for Dummies covers symptoms of prostate cancer and how it's treated (surgery, radiation, etc.) and also covers how to cope with the side effects, such as impotence, depression and so on. The author factors in how cancer affects the whole family and discusses how the person with cancer can help his family help him. depressingly enlightening
I find this book fascinating for many reasons.My wife and I have just decided to have a baby, and I had read excerpts on salon before the book itself.I found myself agreeing with many of the sentiments expressed. In the decision, I found myself trapped by my own selfishness, and found that mirrored in many of the essays.But I thought: what if my parents had been this selfish?What if all they were concerned about was the mess their kids would turn their house into?The loss of free time? To be honest, I was very concerned that I wasn't "cut out" for parenthood - but reading these essays, I came to grips with my selfishness, and realized there's more to life than me.

Good only if you want kids
Most of the childfree/childless people in this book claim that they may change their minds or regret not having kids. Only one really stood out and said no I am never having kids (Elinor Burkett) The ones who were on the fence really seemed like they will all have kids one day. And there are no I regret having kids stories from the parents.
To have and have not
One of those unique books where professional writers openly discuss their personal decisions on family and children. Interesting take is that they have all made decision and stuck with it in regards to whether or not to have children.Neither one of them seems to regret their decision and is firmly behind it.While some writings are more impressive than others, they all have in common he fact that they are sincere and open. ... This book has helped me overcome my bulimia
I received this book while I was in a mental health treatment center as part of my treatment. The title was dorky so it took alot to get me to pick it up, but when I did I was not sorry. In just the introduction alone I found the description of my disordered thoughts and as I read on I found the sources to my bulimic tendencies that tortured me. Im not done with it yet, but every time I read a chapter and fill in the journal I gain a greater understanding of my obsession with food. I recommend this book to anyone, any age, who has ever been concerned with their weight, whether they are terminally ill or just dieting.

Cover of book misleading
I bought this book thinking it would be a good read before my husband and I started trying for a baby. The cover captions looked like there would be some great information inside. However, when I got the book and read the table of contents I immediately realized it was a book about infertility. I only give it 1 star not based on the content but on the misleading cover of the book. I'll have to pay better attention next time!

choose another book!
I've recently come into the TTC group and have sought out many books to get prepared...this book looked good, said all the right things on the cover but when I got it home, it was very hard to stay interested!It was like a textbook, not a very difficutlt read but difficult to want to keep reading.Now I'm ordering new books because I dislike this one so much.I'm sure if has useful information, but I'd rather read something more "personable".

Thank good ness for this book!
This book was a wonderful tool for my husband and I when we were exploring DI as an option.This is the one book that truly addresses our unique infertility situation.None of the other infertility books spend more than a page talking about using donor sperm.This was wonderful!

A great book to help with the loss!
I am a DI adoptee and I recommended this book to my mother. She really felt validated by the book. As an DI adoptee I also recommend "Adoption Forum" by Kasey Hamner. It covers DI from all angles. And those touched by DI are represented in many of the other topics. Oh, and remember, always disclose!!

Helped me feel less unique
I agree with other reviewers that this book focuses more on the emotional side than the technical. However, I can get all the technical information I need from my doctor. What this book gave me was a sense that there are a LOT of others out there who are doing what I'm doing. It also helped me focus on and deal with all the stress that the process brings with it. I think you can get a lot out of this book even if you are not the hetero couple that is more targeted by the examples. You still have to deal with the issues between you and the child and the donor, no matter what your relationship is, and those chapters were very helpful. ... Read more
