Feeling smart, feeling good...
Ever since I read Martin Gardiner's book on multiple intelligences, I have been intrigued by the study of how we learn and the different types of intelligence. No one disputes that mathematical/analytical brain-power is a very different type of intelligence from the kind of bodily intelligence that makes someone a graceful gymnast or a super athlete; while there is often some cross-over between the kinds of intelligence that make for good mathematicians and good musicians, the kinds of intelligence that are brought to bear on different parts of our lives get developed in different ways.
This is a book which has profoundly changed my life
I placed my original order for Dan Goleman's book "Emotional Intelligence" about one month before it's release in 1995 after reading the Time magazine cover story "What is Your E.Q.?"At the time I was going through a very difficult divorce, and I was asking myself the question "What did I do to deserve this terrible mess?"I was a 37 year old medical internist then who, in 7th grade, modeled my emotional style after Mr. Spock (from Star Trek) to avoid emotional issues I faced then.I accepted the messages from my parents and teachers who taught me that if I earned good grades, went to college, received an undergraduate and hopefully a graduate degree, then I shall expect to become happy & successful in life.Well, I DID that. I got the T-shirt.I graduated from high school as class valedictorian, winning the science award, I was awarded by my classmates "most likely to succeed", and I won a very handsome scholarship which paid all my undergraduate tuition for 4 years and offered me a summer job.In college I won more scholarships and graduated phi beta kappa in the top 3% of my class.In medical school & residency I did well, but this was more difficult for me as I had to learn to deal with many emotionally and socially challenging issues I was poorly prepared to deal with, but I got through them, but initially was not very adept at dealing with them.

Important Distinctions for Leader, Manager, Individual
What a pleasant surprise this book is.I admit I was reluctant to pick it up because in my experience as a management consultant there is always more than "One Thing" to managing a situation successfully. So I found the premise questionable.However the book came highly recommended and Buckingham's First Break All the Rules was so useful and succinct that I decided to give it a try.I'm glad I did.
Worthwhile Read
I truly enjoyed reading this book. It is well written and includes a good balance of information mixed with real life examples and stories. I really agree with the author's conclusions, having been in business management and leadership myself for 30 years.

CD is self-congratulatory and virtually content-free
While I agree with other reviewers that the text is good and the graphics in the text are outstanding, the CD that accompanies the book is a shocking waste of time.
A Masterful Work
Pinel's Biopsychology is a masterful work. I can only imagine the immense amount of time and effort that has gone into it.I don't think you can find another bookin this field that appeals to such a wide range of readers.I have used this book and previous editions of it as the primary text in the graduate Biopsychology courses I have taught over the past 8 years.This book has consistently earned accolades from mystudents for presenting what is an otherwise complicated and highly technical subject, in agraspable and witty manner.
Excellent book for discerning readers
I have degrees in neurophysiology, molecular biology, and bioorganic chemistry.I really dislike psych texts; in fact, I really dislike psych.What a bunch of fluff BS.This book accomplishes something rare.It effectively frames discussions of psych topics in terms of their hard science antecedents.Pinel makes it seem as though the field of psych actually lives in reality, or at least has a summer home here.Pinel also tells the story, in segments throughout the book, of a traumatic and relevant experience, making the book read more like an engrossing biography than a text.He always relates his personal experinces, but not so much as to distract from the material itself.Extremely well done.One of the only books I had to buy that I actually wanted to keep. ... Steve....the ultimate humorist!
Being an avid fan of Fox & Friends already, having watched it for years & years, when I knew Steve was writing a book - first thing I thought, this will be a smash hit! Funniest book I've read in a long time...
I really enjoyed this book. Doocy's humor is so random and dead-on when it comes to marriage, diapers, and snakes. It's a perfect wedding gift, and cheaper than china.

In order to call themselves good Christians, many people have drawn overly flexible boundaries (unwilling to say no, always accommodating others' needs) or overly rigid boundaries (to the point of being righteous and judgmental). Psychologists and inspirational speakers Cloud and Townsend show readers how to set reasonable boundaries in order to follow the true path of Christianity. This book has become immensely popular, most likely because it makes personal boundaries easier to define and is filled with spiritual purpose. Some cautions: the format can be overly self-helpish for such a complex discussion and the authors at one point imply that judicious spankings may be an acceptable form of setting boundaries with children. However, many Christians will probably find themselves grateful for this biblical context of boundaries. Read more

Miniature edition.Not until you get to the book size at the bottom of the page is there any indication that this IS NOT the complete Boundaries book.Yes, I'm angry--I didn't get what I ordered!!

Total Farce
When I ordered this book I was led to believe it was based on the science of mental health. What I found was that it was a book on Christian values, Bible verses, and virtual preaching. Instead of sound psychological protocol I was given Bible classes. I am not anti-Christian, or anti-religion, but I don't expect to buy a book on psychology only to find it is about two men's religious values. I returned this book.

This book is a course requirement; otherwise it would not have been purchased.In my opinion this is unquestionably the worst textbook I have every read.I have read a lot of textbooks, over 60 boxes worth, both as a student and a professor.Some have been a good read, others not.In all of them I have found at least something worthwhile.Not this time.

Witty
Whatever possessed a girl to openly admit she had a lot of one night stands, never mind write a book about it, is beyond me. Although it's witty, it's clever, it's eye-opening, it's just a bit about stuff you don't wanna know? It's all a bit too much information. But the first chapter is really shocking, Chelsea Handler says that the reason she never got into a serious relationship was because she was dared $5 by her older sister to take a photo of their mum & dad. Together. Ewwwwwwwww!!! It probably scarred her for life!
She's my best girlfriend!
I received this book as a birthday present and forgot about it at first. A month or so later I read the first page and was hooked. It was as if I was sitting in a bar drinking straight vodka, so I wouldn'tgain weight, of course, while Handler, my best girlfriend, told me about her latest romp in the bedroom.

You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
Same info as before
There isn't anything new here unless you want to fall asleep reading about cheese and whisky.Dr. Weil gives examples of how some cheese's and whisky get better as they age as if this is supposed to correlate to people.I love Dr. Weil's other books and his website but I was disappointed by this book.If you want to read a good anti-aging book read Roy Walford's 120 year Diet.An excellent read.

Don't Bother
Don't EVEN bother buying this book.If you can avoid the snores with all the medical mumbo-jumbo, maybe this book is for you.Bottom line is: don't fret about aging because it's going to happen to you and eat right, exercise and take your vitamins.So what else is new?

Don't hesitate--get this book now!
Contained inside this book is not only secrets to unlocking the sex goddess that resides inside of each and every one of us, but ways in which to execute these practices. The author gives loads of good advice and the end result is not only a better sex life for you and your lover, but an overall better life! (Sex can and does make a person feel better!) This book really opened my mind to understanding how to please myself by pleasing my man. It's one of the better out there and the only other one I've found that comes close to dealing with these things is "Good Sex" (Charlotte Kane).
Three books in one!
Three reasons I picked up this book: a search for excellent books on intimicy to hand my offspring- a search for enjoyable reading on my favorite topic of delighting my mate- a search for factual information rather than hearsay stories or theories. Ian is indeed a pleasant surprise. His writing is so enjoyable read the book just for his style. He includes a bounty of facts alongside his well spoken adjectives. If I had one book to hand my offspring, this would be the one. There is not another book around that will cause you you to look more forward to pleasing your mate and Ian makes a beautiful point about keeping your mate- for life. This book well describes sex, dull little snipets about how to do this or that, not there. Just a diving board and a gorgeous description of your very own pool.

That's what the author calls himself and his voice is really honest and friendly. I loved this book because it was focused on the male mind and had some really new things to say about the male body. Just when you think you've known everything there is to know about the penis, Kerner gives you some really new things to think about. Most of all he makes you feel really confident and I've already put some of the techniques into action. I also emailed him with a question and he emailed me right back!!!! A true life horror story
A really compelling read! I could not put this book down. Before I read 'The Hot Zone' I had never really taken much interest in virology. Richard Preston writes his account very effectively in the style of a novel, but the fact that the horrors of Marburg and Ebola that he describes are actually true, gave me many sleepless nights. A frightening aspect of these filoviruses is that their source has still not been found. If only all non-fictional books were as readable as this!
Truly terrifying from the start to the end
I am someone who loves classics... so I never read this kind. But I happened to read it on my trip to east coast. I finished within 2 days. At first, I was scared, then i accept the truth... it became better. And it's so good from the start to end... So realistic, u can touch the grip of it... feel like it's happening around the corner.
Sub-par
I've been wanting to read this novel for several years now.Taking Virology during my undergraduate career only peaked my interest in reading about Ebola in a novel-style context.There's not much known about the Ebola virus, even to this day, and I was intrigued to see how Preston would incorporate this knowledge (or lackthereof) into his book.While the subject matter is extremely interesting and engaging, I will have to agree that his writing style is sub-par.I found myself skimming through whole paragraphs because of his mundane and repetitive diction and syntax.If it had been written by someone else, I think I could have immensely enjoyed this book (I'm a major science nerd, and I love reading science books).The only thing that kept me going to the finish was the fact that the entire novel was riding on the subject matter Ebola itself.The virus was what kept the novel going (I actually enjoyed all the factual paragraphs about Ebola...reminded me of the course I took in college! Haha, that, and I like seeing how factually correct Preston was).Overall, it seems like most of his facts are correct (there are a few things that I would contest, but that's besides the point), but honestly, the book was a bore...which is a shame, because it's written on such a fascinating subject.

Couldn't have done it without it!
I would recommend this to any nursing mother. I bought the book and had it memorized by the time my daughter came into this world. I had a lot of questions, and it always had the answers. I never had to go digging around for another book because it didn't have what was looking for.
The BEST Nursing Book Out There!!
I received this book as a gift and it has been beside my bed for 6 months (ever since my daughter was born).It is great as a reference to look up answers to quick questions or concerns.I would also recommend reading this book from start to finish before baby arrives... I wish I had.I cannot say enough good things about Kathleen Huggins and her book!!

Actual useful advice!
This book was by far the most useful nursing book I read (the others were the Sears book, the LLL book, and BF made simple).When I had a specific problem, this book actually gave a list of different things to do to try to resolve the problem - exactly what I wanted!-and there's always an accompanying discussion if you want know more.I would say this book is also the most clinical of the books, and I consider that a good thing.I (and I think most people who bother to buy a nursing book) know BF is a good choice before buying these books.I don't need a hard sell.This book simply lays out the facts in an easy to understand way.Highly recommended. ... good material - too bible thumping though.. love your wife
The book follows on the vein of 'men are from mars, women venus', both excellent for men and relationships (not for dating). To be honest the authors admit the survey of womens results will be slanted to reflect their christian background. The points made are 'Excellent'... no really they are..... but his wife is a woman columnist writer(read feminist) and he goes on to bash 'porn' (he neglects that 51% of all books sold are romance novels...... the same as porn for males, how many women go to movies and drool over brad pitt etc?). If you're going to do a survey then give us the results of how women think without the christian lecturing.... isn't it about time men can honestly admit to women, that yes we enjoy looking at women, even naked women.... without having to be lectured we're bad...... author needs to explain and accept male behaviour as it is, not as how he wants it to be..... warts and all. Feminists had to do this for women!

Excellent concept; a bit repetitive
This book offers a great way to approach difficult conversations.There are several templates in the book to show the reader how to do this.However, after reading it, it does tend to repeat certain aspects of the material.I am sure that some of that is for effect; but for someone who is capable of applying material quickly it can be somewhat boring.I still recommend it as a read, but I do not recommend that you need to completely read the book to get the overall message.

The content is excellent but she narrated her own book and it's very dry to listen too.I recommend buying the book and working through that.

It really works!

Should be Mandatory Reading
I feel this book should be on the "mandatory reading" list for all women - especially young women.Our society and most of our mothers have wholly failed at teaching us about this sacred subject! Whether you are trying to get pregnant, trying to prevent pregnancy, or neither of the above, this is a must read.I would add, that there is a lot of information in this book that men should know too.

Read this and got pregnant the first month!
I had no trouble conceiving my first child when I was 35 years old. When we tried for baby #2, however, I was 39 years old and after 6 months of fruitless efforts we were beginning to get frustrated. A friend recommended this book to me. I got the book and began charting my cycle using the methods in the book. BINGO! I got pregnant the very first month I charted. What I learned in the process, was that I was ovulating a full week later than normal, so while my husband and I were diligently trying to conceive in the early part of my cycle, up through the time I thought I would be ovulating, we were stopping our determined efforts a little too early. The month I started charting, we just kept on going (much to my husband's delight: )until the thermometer said we could stop. A couple of weeks later I discovered I was pregnant and now our daughter has a little brother!: )
