TOO COMPLICATED
WAY TOO COMPLICATED DIET TO FOLLOW
common sense or not?
I lost 5lbs the first 2 weeks. I regularly eat very heathy, but need to exercise more(or at all), so i was suprised that i lost the 5lbs just from eating a little healthier and have managed to keep it off. I think it is a good book if you are interested in learning better eating habbits, if you eat poorly. Alot of it is common sense about portion size and eating the right foods for your body to function properly. I don't think you need all the suppliments that she wants you to take, a good multivitamin doesn't hurt though. I didn't follow through after the two weeks because of my schedule, but i do plan to give the rest of it a shot. I think if you need something to jump start you to eat healthy and get rid of all the junk you eat than this is a good way to go. If you really like your junk food than this book is not for you.

Ann Gittleman is great.
This doc really knows her stuff.While you might need to have a high IQ and time to digest.... She is very very informative.

Amazing!
This book has changed the way I think of exercise, of health, of fitness, EVERYTHING! It's excellent! It's a well-written, easy to understand book that teaches you how to work out once a week for 30 minutes and receive benefits all week. I've been an RN for over 30 years and have learned things I had never understood correctly before.
Very Good
The slow Burn takes alittle use to if you have been working out for sometime. You will most likly want to rush through the exercises but don't! Learning a new way of pushing the weights will improve your strength.

This Exercise Method Really Works
I read this book and loved it and then went to Serious Strength Exercise Studio and it's hard work and wonderful.When I like something and it works I call it "The Real Deal" and this is it.

Cure HIV/Aids with diet, exercise and castor oil packs?
While I have an excellent understanding of the metaphysical philosopy, the idea that one can diagnose and cure disease such as HIV and Aids with diet, castor oil packs and the like, is absurd. As a registered nurse, my first and only encounter with this author, leaves me unsure, other than book sales, why she would make this claim.
Misses the mark and with leaps in logic to hasty conclusions
I have to preface this review by saying that I am not a Caroline Myss fan.This is not based upon my past religious upbringing, but rather on her approach to an attempted synthesis between the Jewish, Christian and Hindu teachings on metaphysics and energy systems.In short, I think she missed the mark and tried to force fit areas together based more on her assumptions about reality than a natural meshing together of concepts.
mixed feelings
for most of my life, I have felt that a connection exists between our psychological and emotional experiences and the illnesses we develop, that in many ways our illnesses represent a metaphor for the emotional and spiritual crises that we go through.over the course of the last few years I have been exploring different forms of spirituality and healing practices that integrate spirituality with an understanding of the body.in a lot of places I would read references to the idea I described above, of illness as a manifestation of spiritual crises, but no one ever really seemed to go in to the subject at great length.so I was excited when I found Myss's book, as it seemed to delve deeply into this subject, and also explored the relationship between healing and mysticism.

What a great textbook!
This is one of our required textbooks at the school I'm attending and it is structured in such a way as to make the information you need quickly easy to find.
Healthy Healing that's also a commercial
There is a lot of good information in this book, but the information is often overshadowed by the fact that the book feels like a several-hundred page advertisement for the nutritional supplements Linda Page sells through her company.If you can get past the fact that she mostly recommends her own products, there are important things to be learned from the book.

Disappointing
I have a 19 year old son that has been on stimulants since age 5.The stimulants work but we're always searching for a better, easier and cheaper solution.We've tried all types of naturals treatments and biofeedback but they did not work.I was hoping that Lawlis' book offered some new insights into ADD and it's causes and treatment.However, I was disappointed to read the same old suggestions about nutrition, diet, biofeedback, etc.I don't disagree that some people benefit from these treatments but Dr. Lawlis didn't present any new ideas.

From a Parent's Perspective
I have a 14 yo son with ADHD and I've read too many books on the subject. I took my son off all meds a year ago because the cure was becoming worse than the diagnosis and realized that the meds were masking his emotional problems even though he went to Psychciatrists and Psycologists, Pediatric Neurological Behavioralists-the list seemed eternal.
Worthless Drivel !!!
I have been in practice for over 25 years, treating adults and children alike, I have read many books on the subject of ADD and ADHD and frankly I found this book to be full of the same old sham treatments that don't work any better than snake oil.

It's really about Perspective
I remember the first time I encountered this book.I was a preadoptive parent and it was on the scant reading list my agency provided to look at before adoption.It scared the heck out of me.How could this happen?How could someone be so hurt and filled with anger at the events that had shaped their lives?I wanted to listen to the adoptees that said: this is not true, it's just anger and it didn't happen to me, there must be something wrong with her to have had this happen.I wanted to be a parent and hope for the happy rosy picture that says adoption is win win....a child gets a loving family and a family gets a child to love.
An absolute must-have!
"Twenty things" is one of those books that every adoptive parent needs to own and have read over and over again. Prescribed to us by our adoption agency, it is an informative and educational text that avoids the overly academic. It is a practical guide that provides real, down-to-earth advice and strategies relevant to understanding your (adoptive) child/ren. I thoroughly recommend this book, especially to those who are considering or are currently in the process of adoption. For those who have already adopted - this is a complete tool in better understanding how your child/ren is/are feeling and wanting from you.

Why Bother To Adopt??
As a mother of four adopted children, I found this book to be very disturbing. It came across as one woman's way of venting her anger and frustration of being adopted. She felt she was deceived and had never forgiven her parents, both adoptive and natural. (She says she was never really told she was adopted, she just found out)

Great personal and professional growth tool
As owner of a corporate training consultancy - PICKS Training & Consulting - and 20-year sales manager, I found 'EI' to be extremely beneficial to me in both my personal development and my profession. For anybody who is interested in better understanding their emotions and harnessing them for good instead of trauma, I encourage you to read this book and practice its principles.

Thought-provoking read
You know the feeling--your spouse says something that strikes you the wrong way, and involuntarily you tense up. You can almost feel your blood pressure rise. Without thinking, you respond emotionally, and soon what may have been intended as an innocuous comment has sparked a full-fledged marital battle that may leave as its aftermath lingering feelings of anger and resentment.
The importance of emotions
Daniel Goleman has written an interesting book about the physiological and social consequences of emotions and our ability to control them.He makes a convincing case for emotional competence as perhaps a greater prerequisite for success than intellectual brilliance.Many of us can probably corroborate this for ourselves by recalling very intelligent people we have known who have a tendency to sabotage themselves through their inability to deal with other people appropriately.

heal your body/new cover
this book is ok i didnt find it very interesting for a mature mind it lacks inthusiasm for the reader although informative.

Easy to read; good suggestions for change. Good resource book for therapists/counselors working with clients having anxiety disorders and/or depression.

Little Book, Powerful Words
I have given away several copies of this book and reference it in my presentations and small retreats.Similar to another reviewer with a charismatic background, I was surprised that I now recommend this book!However, in my case I found the ideas in this book (but not necessarily in all her books) to be very consistent with faith, positive confessions and words that "create."We have a God-given creative ability that can be blocked by what is in our unconscious.Our unidentified/unaddressed negative thoughts or emotions (hurt, anger, bitterness) counteract everything positive that we read/believe in our conscious mind.When you address those things, all of you is on the same page, and it's very powerful!

Feel great!
I don't really see this as a diet, it's so much more. I've elimanated toxins and regained my health, have energy, and understand my body and what foods I'm allergic to. My husband and I did the Detox Box, and would recommend it to everyone. We now want to continue to Detox with each season change (4x a year). We both lost weight, stopped drinking coffee, and now eat with much more awareness. We were following the UltraMetabolism program for 2 months (also by Dr. Mark Hyman) before we started the Detox. We stayed on the Detox for 28 days, one week longer than suggested. We are back on the UltraMetabolism program for about 2 weeks now. I've lost more than 30 lbs, and so has my husband.I know I am following a program that is very healthy and I feel great mentally and physically!

buy this only after really committing....
This product was very interesting and informative.Difficult to follow detox rules are made much easier with this product that breaks down each stage and day into an easy to follow cue card format.A lot of info is consisely written into a cue card format.

Meaningful message for all who read...
Having just lost my own mother to Glioblastoma multiforme grade IV, I found this book comforting and relevant. It had a great message to share "take the time to tell those you love about the perfect moments you will remember about them". I have purchased a dozen copies since my first to send out to friends in memory of my own mother.

Must read for accountant!
What an inspirational book! I read this book few days prior to a job interview with KPMG. Well good news is.. I got the job! but the message behind this book is "balance" and purpose of life. Life is too short and many people knew that, but we need a reminder once a while to put us into perspective again. Gene is a visionary behind KPMG and to lost someone like him is definitely a lesson to learn. As an accountant, we know how many hours we have to spend at work, but think it this way to balance it out.. treat your family like your client. They need as much time as your other clients need you too. I would recommend this book for any accounting major college students.

Courageous
This book is phenomenal.Those with a Type A personality will certainly appreciate the approach the author took to put closure on his impending death.Since another reader had mentioned that Joan Didion's "The Year of Magical Thinking" was better, I had decided to read both books.I absolutely loved Chasing Daylight better although both books have value.

ABSOLUTELY RECOMMENDED!!!
First, to diffuse some of the objections to this book you might come across:
Emotional Vampires Strike 24/7
If you are tired of being used, abused and emotionally and physically drained by certain people at work, at home, at the malls and many other places and even by those who appear nice, this book is a must read.
Protection from Vampires--not therapy
Emotional Vampires teaches you how to protect yourself from people who emotionally and materially drain you for their own gain and at your expense. These "vampires" prey on colleagues, friends, and family. They are especially dangerous because their self-absorption prevents them from seeing that they are harming others, and even makes them think they are helping others. "Vampires" are especially gifted at finding the most vulnerable victims. With Dr. Bernstein's help, these vampires will see you as no easy prey and move on to others. You recognize Emotional Vampires by the emotional aftermath: they "take a lot out of you," they leave you feeling "drained," they "pushed your buttons," they are "high maintenance," etc. Dr. Bernstein is right on the money with "vampire bite" as a metaphorical diagnosis for the real harm these types cause, but beware: the fangs seldom show, and emotional vampires can seem as harmless and ineffectual as Aunt Bea, or as affable as Will Rogers. Each chapter is a recognizance of different "vampire" personality types. I realized I was particularly vulnerable to the "histrionics" who thrive on drama for its own sake. I used Bernstein's techniques on a certain "histrionic" vampire in my life, and now I'm thankfully out of her perpetual soap opera. I urge everybody to buy this book. I am Impressed
Great read.This author knows curly hair.She meticulously addresses some of curly heads major concerns and offers practical solutions.She even gives homemade recipes for hair products. I read this book in one day as I did A. Dickey's book, it was filled with great and accurate information.I compared the books to eachother and to what I know already and conclude these are writers that know their business - hair. What I love most is being able to learn new things, both Massey and Dickey make this possible.Worth every dollar and star!

Mixed results
I have loose curly hair that tends to be on the dry side.I found that I had to modify the authors advice to get the desired results.I have psoriasis on my scalp and not using shampoo didn't work for me.My scalp was extremely itchy after using only conditioner.Furthermore, I am a runner and I found that I started to break out all over my scalp.The breakout cleared up after I started using shampoo again.I have to wash my hair every other day, but I did follow the advice to put conditioner on the ends before washing.

A hesitant skeptic, now a believer
I stumbled upon this book accidentally and I am so thankful I did. The web site [..] was mentioned in a letter written to Paula Begouin in her newsletter "Cosmetics Counter Update" (please note that Paula was NOT recommending the web site -- it was a reader who mentioned it and Paula published the letter). Paula is the Cosmetics Cop [..]and expert researcher in all things beauty. So, intrigued and curious, I went to the curly hair web site. It's the usual blather of bad-to-okay advice, hawking of various expensive products, etc. But I then found out about THIS book, so the trip to the web site was worth it. I decided to order it, since my hair lost all its curl after I moved to an island in Puget Sound, in the Seattle, WA area. You'd think that being surrounded by water, and in a more moist atmosphere than Southern California, I'd have MORE curls, not fewer. Alas, not true -- my hair would wave at best, hang with a few "angel wings" at worst (ladies, you know what I mean!). So, the book couldn't hurt, and it wasn't terribly expensive.

If you want a down-home-fun-loving-book with practical guidelines for finding and keeping one's soulmate; this one delivers the goods! Most books tell you what to do, Dr. Phil shows you how to do it.
Get the CD set - It's a great listen, especially for Dr. Phil fans
I'm a Dr. Phil fan and I my learning style is primarily audio (through listening).I have the book, but my stepfather bought me the CD set for "Love Smart" for Christmas.I listened to it over the period of a couple of weeks while working out in the gym (6 disc set).

Best self help book ever, hands down
If you're only going to read one self help book, this is the one. This book deserves 100 stars, or infinite stars. It teaches you how to take control of your subconscious and your life so that you're no longer a victim of bad parents, bad environment, bad people and all the harmful psychological programming they put into you. There's a lot of people who badmouthed me and abused me because they're toxic and stupid. My father especially did that and he ruined my life. But the dumb kids in school were horrible too. You can now undo the damage they did. Then you can program your subconscious with new programming that will enable you to reach your goals and be how you would like to be. It helps you reach your true potential. There's so much good advice in this book. You have to do what the book says for it to work, though. If you don't use the techniques, you won't benefit. I think you probably should read this book multiple times to fully internalize its teachings. If you're already very mentally healthy and living to your potential and you had great parents, then maybe you don't need this book. But if you're having problems, if you feel like you're not living up to your potential, you HAVE to have this book. I always felt like there's was some subconscious garbage that was always holding me back and sabotaging me. I always wanted to be successful, but my subconscious wouldn't let me, even though I have a high IQ. The people around me had screwed me up too badly. Now I feel like I can finally get these monkeys off my back and finally get somewhere in life.

This life changing book is a bible for those who want to succeed with their health, fitness, and beyond. Maxwell Maltz has outlined exercises and systems that will take you to the next level in just a few hours using visualization and mind conditioning.

even if you have never been to a yoga class ...
... this book will still be of great interest and value to you if you are spiritually inclined.
excellent, but only for professionals
This beautiful book from the world teacher Iyengar was difficult to read, and I am teaching yoga already for 25 years. So, for me it was marvellous, but not recommended for beginners.
The theory behind the practice
There was yoga before the time of Patanjali but it was not written down, or at least no text survives.We find elements of the practice in the Upanishads and of course in the Bhagavad Gita.But before Patanjali's codification there was no systematic text to guide the aspirant.Since then Patanjali's sutras have been translated into many languages along with commentary to elucidate the concise text, with Vyasa's commentary from the ninth century--upon which Iyengar makes some reliance--being the most important.
