Best Little Book
I have used this and the previous edition for many years working in a country club.I just bought three of these for friends who have enjoyed my findings and got a kick out of my constant referring to my "bible" on food.If you are really interested in what things are made up of and where they originated, as well as some true tips for ease in food preparation this book is a wonder.These make 6 books of these purchased and it is one of those treasures that I must pass on to like minded freinds as a gift!

Awesome Book!
I am a college student and as I get older, I have started to realize my love of fine foods. One problem is, however, that when I hear food terms, I don't always know what they mean. This is where this book comes in. This has to be the most comprehensive book on food terms. It is great and really does a good job defining almost anything that you may come across. Also, the apendix is wonderful; from cooking times to diagrams of cuts of meat, it alone is a valuble tool. This is a great reference book for anyone who enjoys food. ... Read more

Comforting and Enlightening
This book was reoommended by a friend who read it when her husband was dying.He had read it also and found it very helpful to understand the process he was going through and he highly recommended it and THAT SAYS SOMETHING! When my Mom was passing I read it and although I was scared to read it, it actually was nothing to fear....it was comforting and enlightening and made the process much easier for me as the caretaker and daughter.I recognized and understood the things she was saying much better and knew how to respond in some unusual circumstances.I recommend this book to ANYONE dealing with the process of dying.I bought extra copies to give to others who are losing someone close to them.

FANTASTIC
I wanted to do some hospice volunteering but was so worried during the training that I was not "made" for this kind of work as I am a pretty emotional sort but during my training it was suggested that I read Final Gifts to help ease some of my fears. It was the best thing I could have done, though it is never easy to lose a patient it sure opened my eyes to near death awareness and the needs of those leaving this world. I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone - one who is losing a loved one - one who would like to work with those dying - or just one with questions of the end of life process. I thank both authors from the bottom of my heart for this book.

Bathroom Humor. Next Time Print Your Material In The Stall With A Marker.
It's not a bad book if you enjoy middle school bathroom humor....about half the book is sexual humor. And for about 25% of the questions they dont know the answer.
Funny, interesting, entertaining, and "helpful"!
Somehow any further compliment to this book seems meaningless amongst the sea of positive reviews here. However, I still want to express my heartfelt appreciation to some authentic answers to some of my life long doubts, including:-
The 411 on all things gross and goofy
Funnier than the alarmist 1960s "classic" EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT SEX * BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK. This post-modern medical answer book is more of a "Goofus and Gallant explain it all to you, and then some." It is mostly presented as short medical explanations based on questions doctors often get asked at cocktail parties after the other guests' inhibitions drop from their alcohol consumption. These tidbits include sexual and scatalogical curiosities, old wives' tales, and medical oddities bordering on urban legends. These informative, if odd, explanations are interspersed with verbatim email and IM exchanges (typos left uncorrected) between the coauthors--the bona fide medical doctor Goldberg (Gallant) and medical tourist Leyner (in the Goofus role). They have no illusions about the literary merit of their collaboration and are quite frank about the room in the house where their book is most likely to be read and shelved. Don't throw about your AMA Guide to Medicine, but DO read WHY DO MEN HAVE NIPPLES? for the fun of it. If laughter is the best medicine, you'll probably extend your life by at least another week or two. ... Read more

Steve is my hero!
I have been using Steve Zim's first book "Hotpoint Fitness" for almost 4 years. I'm up to the 5 times a week schedule. I'm almost 70 but I look 40 if you cut off my head! I have always had large hips...no more. Sagging butt, what's that? Firm arms, I got 'em. Inner thigh...muscles there, too. The excercises will improve your posture, improve your agility, and you will benefit psychologically as well. I've often thought of writing to Steve and telling him how much his book has done for me. You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
Not just for weight loss.
The book does address weight loss throughout, however it also does a good job of educating the reader in how to balance and maintain pH balance in the body.There is a short chapter educating the reader on blood including slides of blood viewed by a microscope before and after the body is alkaline.If that doesn't convince us to embrace pH balance in the body then the slides of blood after being on the most popular diets will.The book details how different brands of bottled and munincipal water affect body pH. It expounds on the value of fat in the diet.A short chapter indicates optimum foods to eat followed by another short chapter on fitness. The supplements chapter is very well done and supports what I have learned after many years of informal study. There are nice encapsulations throughout the book and nicely done in Chapter 11 "Take Seven: Steps to Your Ideal Weight" pages 190 - 211.

New and cheaper spin on skincare and looking your best :-)
This truly is a book for everyone.Like a reviewer says below, it is for guys too.When you think about it, skin is skin whether it's on a male or female and everyone needs to take care of it.
Fun and Easy Program that shows RESULTS!!!
I am now in week 5 of this very fun and easy camp. I've been trying it out with some friends at work and we are all seeing results. I think in the first week I saw major changes following Dr. Loretta's advice of changing my pillow case and my detergent. I have had way fewer blemishes and cut out some acne products that were actually doing more harm than good in the redness department. I am highly recommending this book to EVERYONE! It is truly fabulous and even the adorable cover makes me smile (people have asked me why I look so happy and bright the past few days!). Hats off to Dr. Loretta for writing such a helpful manual for navigating the cosmetics world!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

FAST WEIGHT LOSS...
My husband and I both followed the Master Cleanse with great results. He lost 11 lbs and I lost 16 lbs in 10 days! This is coming from two people who aren't over weight or have any health problems. After a while we both grew very tired of the lemonade and this eventually lead to the completion of the program. Over all a good challenge to resist food for 10 days and feel/look great after. This book is a great buy...if you have 10 days and want fast results, this is a program for you. Good luck...

Lose Weight, Have More Energy & Be Happier in 10 Days, Second Edition
I can't deny the benefits of this diet.The book is a quick read, provides basic instructions with simple explanations for each portion of the diet and is very specific about which products you need.The diet on the other hand, is 10 days of drinking things that taste terrible (especially the 32 oz. of salt water each morning - good luck with that one) and about 80 trips to the can every day.I recommend taking the week off or working from home unless you have a private facility for yourself at your place of employment. ... Its been a little while since I read this book, but I recommend it to all that might benefit from it. Being a psychologist, I may have a bit better insight into relationships than most, but alas, my own marriage did come to an untimely ending.Nevertheless, I'd encourage all couples (both members) to give this book a read...who knows, it just might save your marriage (no guarantees though)...

This book is just what I needed.
I've seen some bad reviews of this book, but those people must not have needed it as badly as I did. I found this book after working through my chronic yeast infection for a year.
Excellent!
This book is well organized and easy to follow even for those who are new to the kitchen.When I started this diet this was the main book I used because it made things simple.I started out as a novice cook who was extremely anxious about all the work that I foresaw in giving up sugar, yeast, wheat...and now I don't find it all that difficult and I'm a better cook for it!My only criticism is that sometimes the recipes are too similar, but it does teach a novice like myself what foods work together and how to make alterations.

Turned our boy around
I thought I was fixing reasonably healthy foods, but was amazed to realize that even my all-purpose flour had "malted barley flour" lurking in it.Cooking with the express intent of minimizing neurotoxins has transformed our 6-yr-old high-functioning autism boy.We had seen multiple doctors, and had been told that to function in school he would probably need medication.On this diet, his explosive meltdowns disappeared almost completely starting from the 4th day on Stage III.We also use a probiotic (Kirkman Acidophilus Plus), Yummi Bear vitamins, a calcium supplement, a vitamin C supplement, and the recommended Nystatin.See other books on biological treatment of PDD for the use of activated charcoal to minimize "die-off" reaction from Nystatin.We ramped up the Nystatin slowly, which probably helped.Now we are encouraged enough to explore some of the other PDD biological treatments (e.g. heavy metal detox).I also feel like I have learned how to really cook for the first time in my life!Big learning curve, but worth it!!! ... Is This a Book?
Is this a book to help out women who suffer from being misinformed about menopause or an advertisement for progesterone cream?Didn't help me at all, if anyone wants to buy it, it's yours but I don't recommend it.

An Eye-Opener Sans The Wool
Back-to-back, I've read this book and the other one by Dr. John Lee, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Pre Menopause: Balance Your Hormones And Your Life From Thirty To Fifty."Although the one just mentioned is more pertinent to my age group, and both books cover much of the same ground, I chose to review this book because it seems to be more in-depth.Both books, however, are laden with valuable information for women of any age.

Not "Everything" you need to know
Dr. Sears seems to have spent the better part of his children's lives writing books about which he has no experience.His relegation of the father's role to secondary exemplifies his own inadeqacies.Back to the book.I'm sure it's useful to those mothers and fathers who never had the oral tradition training for parenthood and need a little help, but I would much rather recommend other types of reading for parents and parents-to-be.Spend some time on Native American spirituality. A little more time on books dealing with your nutrition prior to conception(BOTH PARENTS.)Try some humor, like Nora Efron to keep your spirits balanced.Learn about your body, mind, and spirit and that of your child by reading and listening to Rayna Gangi. Dr. Sears.You may help those who have no clue, but you need some further reading yourself.

useful and complete
A very userful book especially for new parents. It doesn't take anything for granted telling you everything you should know about your child. I could find answers to very common and "normal" concerns about my baby, that no one told me before (as for exaple that babies are not silent while sleeping, being in perfect health!)and important suggestments to detect more serious illnesses (such as GERD!)

Just Try It Out, and you'll see it works for you
I received this book several years BEFORE I became a mother--and decided it seemed a little too much for me.There was NO WAY I would ever sleep with my baby, breastfeed for more than 8 months, or carry the baby EVERY WHERE I went.However, I did appreciate that they valued the relationship between parent and baby, and that they were respectful of the child's needs and abilities, as well as the parent's needs and abilities.They also had some helpful ideas about food allergies, which runs in my family.

From a parent!
This book is what I've been looking for: a book that teaches you HOW to teach social skills and organization skills for kids that just don't pick it up from interactions in everyday life. It's made a big difference in our everyday family and school life for my 2 ADHD/LD kids. My thanks to Rick Lavoie!

Read this book!
Writing as someone who has lived with learning disabilities for nearly 50 years now, I cannot say strongly enough that I sincerely wish all of my teachers and parents had read this book.I will go a little further than that---I wish the pastoral counselor, psychologist, and psychiatrists that I have dealt with as an adult would read this book.
Good as far as it goes
This book provides what sound like good tips for helping a child struggling with social skills.Whether they work, I really can't say, as applying everything here would be the work of a lifetime.

He WILL read this book.... but you should too
There's definitely no tip-toeing around in this book, which is exactly why boys will actually read it.Although I was a little shocked by the authors' candor at times, I also recognize the only way to really get through to adolescent boys is on their playing field.
Wish I Had this Growing Up...Every 13 year old Boy Needs this Book.
I purchased this book for my friends son who is 13 years old and before giving it to her I read through it myself. All of the information is very important (12+ years old) and can help educate young boys to make decisions based on knowledge they obtained before there is a problem rather than after, like what I went through when I was growing up and I'm sure countless others have that did not have the benefit and knowledge in this book.
Good info, a little too advanced
The first third of this book contained good information for my 11-year-old son.It explains what happens to a boy's body in a way he was able to understand.The remainder of the book also has good information, but the topics of intercourse and STDs were more than my son was ready for. ... Read more

Great for Motivation!
Ok...so most people who know me know I have a slight obsession with this show....and I was surprised to note when I was getting the synopsis for this post, one reviewer didn't think that the diet was covered adequately...and in some respects I agree...because the diets for each person on the show is individualized with the help of a dietitian...so they can't really say *all* of the contestants did X, Y & Z and had X results.What the book does give you are some parameters as to what the best choices are and instructs you to go out with that information and make choices based on your own personal preferences and staying within the caloric guidelines.Since I've already begun my own "healthy living" adventure, I already had some firm ideas on what I wanted to do and I found that the book complimented what I already had planned and allowed me to expand the scope a bit.The version of the food pyramid printed in this book is surely more in line with what I think is proper and realistic, so it gets big kudos from me in that respect.The exercise program was brief in my opinion...but again, these were tailored to the specific contestants by professional trainers and they certainly don't' want t-o give away all their secrets either...but the info is good and I suspect you can get more out of it if your willing to buy the exercise DVD that goes with it (I'm renting from Netflix first...to see if it's worth spending the dollars on first).The bulk of the book was personal snippets about the contestants (which I could have lived without...but perhaps necessary for those who didn't watch the show, but are curious about it).There is a selection of recipes at the end which there are about 7-10 that I will try...they all look quite good and are not bad with the fat and calories...so for the price I paid for this book (12.89) I'd say it was definitely worth it...but for those looking for a set in stone, do X, Y & Z diet and exercise plan...this is not going to make you happy, you may want to look elsewhere.

Overall, this is a very good book especially for "fans" of the show. I watch it only from time to time so I am not its "fan". The most valuable part of this book is the superior motivation and inspiration it will definitely provide you. It is really amazing to read about the results of actually morbidly obese men and women who ACHIEVED their desired weight. I have the feeling that obese people tend to get disappointed and discouraged rather fast. That's why the book will be of great help, if you face such issues.

The Gift of "The Gift of Fear"
The book is not an easy one to read. The subject is real, the examples are deeply difficult, but the truth in it will, as they say, set you free. You'll find yourself growing stronger and stronger with each chapter. On the very last page, at the very last period, you'll close the book and realize that you are a completely different person than the one who began it.
Interesting book on understudied topic
De Becker's book is an interesting introduction to a topic that we rarely give critical thought to, namely our survival instincts, fear, and ways of coping with dangerous situations that most Americans are likely to face.The dangers that De Becker talks about are more likely to affect women and celebrities (i.e. stalking, rape), but he also talks about robberies, teen suicides/murders, intra-family crimes of violence, etc.He repeatedly talks about how predictable crimes are based on people's past behavior, as well as the simple measures we can use to determine whether or not strangers likely mean us harm or have intentions other than those stated by them.My main critique of the book is that it sometimes came off like a big advertisement for his firm, which specializes in security services and consulting rather than as a guide for everyone.Nevertheless I recommend the book, especially for younger and middle aged women.

This is better than most of the other Glycemic Index books I have read.
This book covers more information than other books that I have reviewed on this topic. There is a lot of advertising for the Glycemic Level way of eating, but the topic seems to still be lacking in information.The Complete Idiot's Guide offers more comprehensive information including a longer list of foods with with the Glycemic Index levels. This is the first book I have read that shows the formula for figuring the index yourself.

My Boss bought me this book when I was diagnosed with Adult II Diabetes.This book is more precious to me than a raise!I love the way the author composed the book...humor, honesty, great recipes and tips.Highly recommended for any person who wants to live a healthy life style.I have lost 15 lbs and my husband has lost 20.We both want to lose 30 lbs each.If you follow the suggestions in the book you will lose the weight.No matter if it is 30, 50 or 100 lbs...the glycemic works.The book encouraged me to find a good cookbook for glycemic recipes and I found a great one here at Amazon.com.

I was diagnosed with Insulin Resistance about a year ago, and while doing my research, I recently discovered the GI Diet and I have to say this book is wonderful at explaining all the terms and giving me the basics, so that I can finally lose weight.I am currently involved in Weight Watchers and kept gaining weight each week.With this diet, I am LOSING and it feels wonderful.WW is great for support and encouragement, so I am using it together with the Glycemic Diet.This book has helped me tremendously and it is very easy to read and understand.Some of the GI books were way too technical.Thank you for this book. ... The best book I've read in years!
This is a fantastic book. It is as relevant in relationships at home as it is in the work place. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to be trusted or who wants to find someone to trust.

Paradigm-Shifter
Every once in a while a book is published that shifts paradigms and instigates a pervasive buzz around the workplace. As a consultant, I know which books these are because they are on the shelf of every client I visit. I predict this book on trust will become a paradigm shifter. Flexibility and tolerance are learned skills, as any parent knows if they've seen an irascible 2-year-old grow into a pleasant, thoughtful, and considerate older child. Unfortunately, for reasons that are poorly understood, a few children don't "get" this part of socialization. Years after toddler tantrums should have become an unpleasant memory, a few unlucky parents find themselves battling with sudden, inexplicable, disturbingly violent rages--along with crushing guilt about what they "did wrong." Medical experts haven't helped much: the flurry of acronyms and labels (Tourette's, ADHD, ADD, etc.) seems to proffer new discoveries about the causes of such explosions, when in fact the only new development isalternative vocabulary to describe the effects. Ross Greene, a pediatricpsychologist who also teaches at Harvard Medical School, makes a bold and humane attempt in this book to cut through the blather and speak directly to the (usually desperate) parents of explosive children. His text is long and serious, and has the advantage of covering an enormous amount of ground with nuance, detail, and sympathy, but also perhaps the disadvantage that only those parents who are not chronically tired and time-deprived are likely to get through the entire book. Quoted dialogue from actual sessions with parents and children is interspersed with analysis that is always oriented toward understanding the origins of "meltdowns" and developing workable strategies for avoidance. Must read if you work w/ a difficult child
This well-organized, brilliantly thought-out book gives educators and parents a completely different way of thinking about how we lead all children but particularly difficult, abused, angry children.In short order it provides specific tools together with examples of what we can do to create a more peaceful, flexible child who can function successfully in the world and get along with others.The corresponding web site is extremely valuable in conjunction w/ this book.

Real Results-when nothing else has worked!
Thank you Dr. Greene, as reading this book has been more helpful to helping me understand my daughter, and has given us more tangible results than any other medication or therapy that we have tried. Things are not completely normal, but after instituting the behavior plan, they are MUCH BETTER. Every child is different, but in our specific case, the information that Dr. Greene presents makes so much sense, and his basket approach has really helped us avoid rages. This is a must read for parents of children diagnosed with Reactive Attachment disorder, Bipolar, ODD, or ADHD. I highly recommend it.

Explosive Child? The Real Solution May Surprise You!
Frustrated by my son's age-inappropriate temper tantrums, I desperately searched for solutions. [He'd be set off by little things like making a mistake coloring and would rage for 1/2 hour or more ... still at age 6! Maybe this is understandable for a 2 year old, but there was something wrong here...] I approached it psychologically, certain that I somehow wasn't handling him properly. However, he just seemed out of control. No matter how I approached his anger, I couldn't make any significant changes. I purchased this book, but it didn't help me much, as I'd already tried so many behavioral approaches. I finally researched the Feingold Program (you can Google it) after observing that his biggest tantrums came immediately after eating foods with red food coloring. The Feingold Program primarily removes artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives from children's food and environment (yes, even those hand-stamps after gym class can have an effect!), and it's been around since the '70s. A family friend used it successfully for her 2 boys during that time, so I knew at
