Editorial Review

If you've ever wondered why the latest fad diet doesn't work for you... well, there are lots of reasons, mostly the fact that it's a fad diet. But it could also be that you're the wrong blood type for the kinds of foods the diet recommends. Peter D'Adamo makes a persuasive argument that your blood type is an evolutionary marker that tells you which foods you'll process best, and which will be useless calories. He covers the entire range for each of the four blood types, from entrées to condiments and seasonings, and also makes type-specific exercise and lifestyle recommendations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars How to Treat Your Illness or Disease with Relevant Herbs
Dr. Peter D'Adamo has written a very interesting adjunct to his superb book, Live Right 4 Your Type. If you have already read that earlier book, you will find this book adds to your knowledge by letting you know about the latest research about the statistical correlations of various diseases and illnesses to those with various blood types. I wrote down the illnesses that I have more frequently than other people I know, and the diseases I have experienced before reading this book. I checked my experience against what the book reports, and found a high correlation (I have had two additional problems not typical of my Type O blood, and have not experienced three problems often associated with Type O people). I did the same for my wife, who has a different blood type, and found that her pattern reasonably closely matched what is described in the book as well. Then, the book has an excellent discussion of why people with each blood type can be affected differently by each illness or disease. You are also given extensive suggestions for herbal therapies that match your herb type. I have not had experiences with the herbs that were suggested for me, so I cannot comment on how relevant they are. If you already use herbs to improve conditions, you will probably adore this book. If you don't use many herbs, you will probably appreciate understanding more about the potential strengths and weaknesses of your blood chemistry. The book is quite thorough in providing articles you can read for more details, and where to access these articles on-line. If you have not read Live Right 4 Your Type, you will find that this book covers almost the same background material but at a much higher level of abstraction. There is a fairly complete discussion of how blood types seem to have developed and what their chemical implications are. In other ways, the book is quite complete in similarity to the earlier ones. For example, you get the food indications for each blood type, essentially like the information in both Eat Right 4 Your Type and Live Right 4 Your Type. Many people are skeptical about Dr. D'Adamo's work. I found him careful about what he had to say. For example, he notes that the risk charts in the book describe how blood type "in conjunction with other factors . . . may be [associated with] an increased risk for developing a certain disease." As to the diseases and illnesses, I was impressed to see how much different cancers were broken down by the part of the body affected while different infections were also segmented. I always find it helpful to keep the research-based associations to blood type in mind when I read other books about nutrition, health, and diseases. Perhaps someday other health authors will add this perspective to their work, as well. Until then, I am very grateful to Dr. D'Adamo for helping me understand how to make the most out of being a Type O person! How can you turn your strengths and weaknesses into resources for improving the quality of your life . . . and those you care about? Keep your mind and your body full of the most helpful resources you can add!

I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Happy, Health Me, here I come!
Ever wondered what is good for you? This book is great! I was skeptical, but this faded. The approach of the book is to inform and maybe scare you away from bad foods. I had been eating baked potatoes because I thought that it was healthy. NO, they are a healthy alternative, but overall they are not good for you. The book goes on to discuss the new MY PRYMIAD and how to change your eating habits. There are some places were they act like a broken record, EAT WHEN YOU ARE HUNGRY, EAT LESS. I guess if they are going to say something twice, it is a helpful reminder. They also offer alternatives to eating foods that will provide more nutrition and keep you fuller longer. Did I metion that the recipes in the back are great! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Chinese Herbal Medicine: Formulas and Strategies
As a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine I can attest to the value of this book's information. It is a fantastic reference book and provides practitioners with detailed formulae descriptions, analysis of formulae and is invaluable to any Chinese medicine practitioner.
4-0 out of 5 stars Bensky's Formuales & Strategies
This is a classical book about Herbal Formulaes. I have read it several times and consult it often. I believe Strategy refers to how an herbologist will be able to use the book to add or modify ingridient and dosage. Unlike the review I wrote for "Material Medica", I find this is a useful book with much needed information to come up with a prescription. Needless to say the translation of this book is choppy in many places. The authors can keep the terms more to the point. These flowerly terms used is a minus.

From page one of Body-for-LIFE for Women, Dr. Pamela Peeke makes you feel like weight removal and fitnees training is an enjoyable lifestyle. Her down to earth style lets you know she is "one of the girls". The entire program is so easy to understand and easy to follow and is presented in such a way, you want to jump right in. And the before, after and "after" after pictures on the inside covers and the success stories are true inspiration.

want to thank you so much for all your words. I was (am still) overweight but with your words (which ring in my head) I am transforming and working hard.Recently my husband and I had an alarm put in on our car we had a few hours to kill so we walked to a near by buffet (which I ate would have loved to devour all of the food but couldn't ate healthy) it's true as you say it's not a diet it's a lifestyle. I ate light and we walked some more we walked must have been over a mile maybe 2 to a mall in over 90 degree weather further than I have EVER walked. It was so hot my husband was like hon if you want I will walk back and get the car and pick you up.Well I thought ok maybe I will.... I was hot and sweaty and tired. We sat had something cool and after an hour or so when it was time to head back your words were in my head saying "OH NO YOU DON'T YOU GET UP AND YOU GET BACK OUT THERE AND YOU WALK BACK DONT LET THE FACT THAT YOU ARE TIRED STOP YOU FROM DOING WHAT YOU KNOW YOU CAN DO"and you know what I did just that I got up and I walked back with him.I walked and did it and I am so proud of myself.I have degenerative discs in my back and I am a diabetic and have high blood pressure and not only that I am on the borderline for neuropothy in my right food so you see how important to me it is to remove the weight (cause as you know we dont lose what we didnt want to begin with).I have lost weight and feel so much better.I have my moments of depression because of having my 3 girls my stomach is stretched out and all the weight I lose the stretched skin tends to hang in the front but I am not giving in I just wear a body bra and hold it up and when I am done with my transformartion I will take care of that.

5-0 out of 5 stars If Your Spouse Is Determined to Leave You, This is the Book To Get
I have not read this book. But I read the reviews. And 11 months ago, when my friend was leaving her husband, I got the book to him. A couple of weeks later, he called me and told me that this book changed his life. He said that based on this book, he changed his behavior, and then his wife changed her mind and agreed to go to marriage counseling. They found an excellent counselor and now they are together and happier than they have ever been.

5-0 out of 5 stars Title might turn away people that this book is good for
While the advice in the book appears to have been too late for me, the advice and strategies talked about in this book make a lot of sense and help to debunk a lot of traditional Freudian psychoanalytic therapy methods.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful for any relationship having problems
I got this book not because I was headed for divorce, but having a difficult time in my marriage as happens to everyone that has been married for awhile. As a married person, I know my thoughts of "should I leave this?" are not all that uncommon in today's society. I was at a place where I was really asking myself that question. This book was really a lifesaver for me and my marriage when I got it. Michelle Weiner states "No marriage is an island".Some marital difficulties can be precipitate by happenings outside the marriage. It is easiest to blame the one's we are close to! This book helped me see how I myself often pointed accusational fingers at my husband, when I was truelly not always the one willing to work on things. I often blamed him when other areas of my life were not going well. My relationship has actually improved greatly for the better since I read this book which was six months ago. I was able to view Michele's philosophy that all marriages are salvagable, and most are worth saving. I saw mine that way. I remind myself of all the reasons why I married my husband, and keep myself in check now. I believe that this book is very helpful, and especially if a person wants to try to save a marriage that looks like it is heading for divorce. ... Read more

The library at the college where I work puts out a list of new books they have purchased in our area once per month, and this book was on the psychology list back in January.I thought it looked interesting and picked it up then, thinking it might have some good things to say about a book I'm writing about men and depression.I finally picked it up and started reading it last week, and finished it in less than a week.I really enjoyed the authors' styles of writing which made some of the technical information more accessible and easier to understand, which to me means it would be a great resource for students studying education and for parents of boys of all ages.
5-0 out of 5 stars A teacher's review
More informative than 'Boys and Girls Learn Differently,' 'The Minds of Boys' is a fascinating look into the specific reasons why boys are doing so poorly in school nowadays. Very, very awfulif you did not know - Boys are the overwhelming majority of special education students, are more likely to drop out, and are much less likely to attend college.
4-0 out of 5 stars A needed step forward for boys:
I really sympathize with Michael Gurian.I felt much the same way about the failures of the industrialized education system in the 1950s that he described a couple of decades later. It's set up to fail boys, and has gotten worse over the past several decades as men teachers have been driven out.

When I first checked this book out from the library I did something that I've never done with a cookbook before--I sat down and just read it. The author is so entertaining, witty, and engaging that I just liked reading the recipe descriptions, punk points, tips from Fizzle the cat, and litte vignettes that are woven into the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!!!
Although not a Vegan, I highly recommend this book to everyone and anyone. First, whether or not you are vegan, I am certain that several recipes from this book will become favorites of yours as they did for me. In addition, this book would have stood on its own as a book of stories. If you want to laugh out loud as I did while reading this book on the bus on my way to work, simply check out the stories written in the introduction, before each section and preceding each recipe as well as Ms. Moskowitz' punk points and 'Fizzle Says:' paragraphs. Great recipes for every meal of the day and scrumptious desserts for any time. No matter what your age, gender, musical inclinations or dietary preferences, this is a cookbook for all.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good example of selfishness
It is apparent that the first premise in Peck's book is that in order for humans to be a whole being, one must grow through spirituality (or enlightenment) attained through "grace" with the main purposes of gaining "capacity and understanding of serendipity" (309) and through "spiritual evolution, whereby people grow towards godhood" (270) and "become God" (283).
5-0 out of 5 stars Life Changing
Peck's definition of love is unparalleled in any of the literature I have read concerning the matter. I have always been particularly fond of Kahlil Gibran's depiction of marriage and love. However, I feel that Peck redefines it in modern English and provides a contrast to the "mainstream" view of love and "falling in love."
4-0 out of 5 stars Life is difficult...
I read this book and the sequel, People of the Lie around the time that they came out.I was stunned by Peck's honesty. The stories of how he and his patients struggle with the problems and obstacles that confront them are amazing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Power-packed toilet reading
QBQ is a quick read but is loaded with powerful thoughts to challenge you to grow in your work, home and social life.Essentially QBQ is about personal accountability. The author, John Miller, has built an entire personal development system around the idea that we should focus on what we can do to improve performance at work or relationships with our kids, not on what others should be doing to improve or accomplish any given objective. The concept is incredibly simple and is presented that way in QBQ.Nevertheless, it is very foreign to many of us in post-modern America.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, practical - and deep. This is Miller's QBQ!
Each employee at our manufacturing consulting firm receives a copy of QBQ! to read.We have a short dialogue and its contents are referenced daily. Every time I listen to Miller's "book on tape" CD or re-read QBQ!, something new hits home.I have shared these books as gifts with employees and friends and with my family as well. From my wife to each of the four children ages 22 to 14. It makes a difference at all levels and now Flipping the Switch, Miller's new book, is also wonderful and being read by all!

3-0 out of 5 stars An OK reference for common problems
I had high hopes for this book but I was a little disappointed when I read through it.I was looking for a comprehensive reference that would give mefairly specific information on common complaints in early childhood.Unfortunately, the book is somewhat vague about most of the problems. For example, I was interested in learning more about reflux in infants and I was able to learn more about reflux in one of my breastfeeding books than in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE reference for new parents.
As a nurse, I highly recommend this book for new parents. It is easy to read and understand for all audiences.I found many answers here that prevented me from calling the pediatrician or advice nurse after hours. It is divided into sections by age so don't let the number of pages intimidate you - keep it by your bed and read a few pages when you have a spare moment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Practical Information
As a chiropractor, my patients are always asking me about what kinds of cleanses are effective and safe.I really like the way Brenda Watson lays out her book. Her text is easy to read and is accompanied by helpful graphics. She presents diverse methods for cleansing and also relates them well to the maintenance of overall good health.I would highly recommend this book to anyone seeking to recover from the deleterious effects of long term digestive imbalance or who wishes to generally improve health. It is especially good for those who have experienced chronic infections accompanied by numerous rounds of antibiotics and the havoc they create in the body long term. The body knows how to heal once given the permission and the right tools. This book is a helpful tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Important information, simply explained
There are plenty of books on digestion and detox - but some are too complicated. This book explained everything you need to know about digestive issues in an easy to follow manner.Ms. Watson gives recommedations for cleansing not only the colon but the liver. There is information on diet, parasites, candida, heavy metal toxicity, and more.Apparently, she also sells the cleansing products that she recommends. She has a website, www.renewyourlife.com if you are interested in discovering more about her products.

I had what I thought was a "sensitive stomach" for years. In the late 80's it got to where my stomach hurt when I ate and hurt when I didn't eat. I had a series of tests done and all they could say was that I had "nervous gas" and that I must be stressed. I knew there were certain foods I should avoid, so I did. Things did improve some. Then I started reading alot and over the years have adopted some or most of the ideas Brenda Watson recommends. Now I'm in my 40's and it seems everyone around me (including my dog) is suffering from some sort of digestive problem. I myself am much better now than when I was younger although still not perfect. Some people seem to be put off by the subject of digestion and elimination. Now I can just point them to this wonderful book. Well everyone, except my dog. I only have one small complaint about this book. I WISHED it had an index in the back. I'd give almost anything for an index. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars some great advice for maintaining sound health
I think this book will be a pretty good resource for anyone searching for information regarding ways to ensure that their health is in top form. It shows them to how go about choosing the proper doctor, insurance companies, and treatment plans. Additionally, readers are also supplied with information on how to deal with a miscellany of ailments and conditions consistent with someone who is of less than sound health. Some examples are inclusive of, but not limited to, cat allergies, turkey neck, diabetes, heart disease, back pain, amnesia, and much, much more.

4-0 out of 5 stars It supplies the information on health everyone should have
Michael Roizen helps you learn how your body works and how to get in touch with it. The only criticism I have of the book is that Roizen advocates a special diet, rather than focusing on what your body tells you what it needs. None the less, This book is your own owners manual for your own body. To be healthy you have to understand all of the various bodily functions, not just the dogmatic views other books discuss, and what you need to do to keep everything running smoothly and remain and maintain a healthy state.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I did not consider myself a smart patient or an educated patient before I read this book, but know I feel that I have a better understanding of my health. It told me when I reach this age I should take this test. Not only did it tell me what, but it also told me why I should take the test and what I should expect (pain) from the test. This book it worth 3 times what I paid for it and the revenue is going to charity! Another great book for smart patients is`Can We Live 150` by M. Tombak. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best no-nonsense yoga textbook
There are innumerable books on yoga to be found; some emphasising the practical aspects with postures (asana), complete with colour photos - and some impossibly esoteric, meant for the select few with mystical leanings. This book combines a comprehensive overview of asana; while at the same time giving clear explanations of the deeper aspects of yoga, including breathing (pranayama), body attitudes (mudra), energy locks (bandha), energy centres (cakra), and yogic cleansing (hatha yoga).
5-0 out of 5 stars clear, helpful, and complete
The illustrations are clear for each pose. The explanations of the asanas and other practices are very helpful, and the over all presentation of the Bihar yoga discipline seems complete.Recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mind Blowing book
I rate the book highly on almost all counts, especially:

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book ever
This has been the only book I have ever read that hit a huge cord within me and stayed. The messages and insights will stay with you long after you've put the book down.We have stopped watching TV with our kids during the week and instead talk, play games, go on walks and enjoy each other's company. We have learned to destress our house and focus on happiness. My husband and I have reconnected and our family is happier as a whole. This book, if you allow it to, can teach you miraculous things.Shmuley Boteach is an incredible rabbi, teacher, husband and above all, father. This book is worth 10 times it's price.Thank you Shmuley Boteach!!

4-0 out of 5 stars 10 BOOKS TO GIVE AWAY TO EVERYONE YOU CARE ABOUT

5-0 out of 5 stars An amateur's advice
There are those who commend this book for its encyclopediac consideration of the supermarket food world, and its careful evaluation in health terms of each and every item we might put in our mouths. They also commend it for Nestle's careful consumer approach in which she insists time and again that the potential consumer- eater read labels, know what is going in to their mouths.
