5-0 out of 5 stars Yoga isn't just for Hinuism
my main points are #ed at the bottom of this page if you would like to skip to the end... this is a wonderful idea!!! yoga has many benifits to anyone and that includes christians.the biggest problem everyone has with this book is that the word "yoga" was and to several still is the joining of human and god (some refer to it as a transformation of human to god). the thing is that here in america words change in meaning all the time. the union of man and god as far as i am concerned could just mean that god has moved into your heart and thus it could still meet the definition of "yoga" as far as that goes.the point i am trying to make is this...1) if you don't like it b/c it is called yoga, don't buy it but also don't stop others from buying it if they want 2) even though hindus named it, it doesn't make yoga stickly hindu 3) if you would like a nice peaceful workout without the influence of non-christian religions...BUY THIS BOOK!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars From an Indian woman
Ok, two things here. For the other reviews, let me say something to others who are offended. I'm sorry the book offended you. The point of the book is not meant to offend, push aside, slander or put down non-believers. If you found this offensive or politically incorrect you missed the whole point of the book. There are people who want yoga that is fully focused on Jesus. If you want more diversity and no Christianity theres other yoga books out there. Get a ethnically diverse yoga book or secular yoga if thats what your're looking for. Why dont you buy another type of yoga book instead of criticizing? As a Christian, you will not find me putting comments on other books on Hinduism or Islam and complaining because because I dont agree with it. I simply dont buy it and move on if I dont agree with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Guide for Advanced Yogis
This book is beautifully written, with great photography, but leans more toward those who are young, strong, and agile. Many of the poses offered look more acrobatic than yogic, but if you can begin working on them while you are young, they might someday be accessible. There is usable information an older or less experienced person would be able to glean from the text, but much of it is simply out of reach for those who are less supple or farther along in years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very well done!
This is a beautifully written book with great pictures,it is very easy to understand and follow. There are lots of helpful tips, and information regarding the benefits of each pose.I taught a class using the book as my text, and the results were outstanding!

5-0 out of 5 stars a wonderful read from start to finish
As a yoga practitioner for over seven years, I have been very interested in expanding my practice. The door to partner yoga was opened and in walked this wonderful book.I love the easy to read prose and the pictures are just beautiful.Anyone can benefit from using the ideas and practice techniques which are described in a very gentle way.Beginners and experienced yogis and yoginis will find something to love in Partner Yoga.I highly recommend this book! ... I can think of no better training tool for the student of Meditation and especially the Science and Practice of Out of Body Experience (OOBE or sometimes called OBE) than this wonderful little book.
5-0 out of 5 stars learn how to breathe
I was a little skeptical at first. An entire book on how to breathe?I've been doing it my whole life, so I'm pretty good at it, right? What else could there possibly be to breathing?
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Illuminating!
This book is a must read for the serious yoga student or teacher. It goes into the anatomy and physiology of breathing, as well as the realm beyond. It discusses the energy of life and the link of mind, body, and breath.

1-0 out of 5 stars doubtful..
This book contains some helpful information about keeping good health and mind. But it is not proven safe. Actually, the ground theory of this book, Dahn-Hak(which is ancient yoga-like training method originated from Korea and China) is all about keeping strong dahn-jun(japanese:Hara). But brain respiration is very different. This B.R. focuses not on dahn-jun, but sang-dahn-jun, or brain. This is very dangerous approach. Before you can do B.R training, you got to have strong dahn-jun. It takes long long time to do B.R. Please reconsider buying this book, I don't recommend this book. I had been long time trainee of Dahn-yoga.
4-0 out of 5 stars Here we go again ...
This book is fine. It presents very standard and elementary ki and chakra flushing/balancing exercises and meditations, all wrapped in lot of Korean vocabulary representing standard well-known Indian and Chinese internal energy theory. That is good, as basic practices are always the most important in any field of work.
5-0 out of 5 stars impressive techniques that actually work
I bought this book together with the CD Instruction of the same title as an impulse purchase and found that it is a series of Qigong methods from a Korean perspective. It deals with methods for getting the body sorted out before one starts into Brain Respiration (dont be fooled by the title). It is a very effective method of training to sense Ki (Qi) and use it for circulation around the body. Further steps head towards a holistic Body/Mind/ Spirit approach devoid of the usual Chinese TCM/Qigong/Taiji terminology. Therefore making this great for Westerners. The Ki sensing exercises after the 1st week caused stress reduction and a mental calmness that I have not experienced in a long time. Because the feedback (feeling) is immediate only after 5 minutes of practise, it sure goes a long way to motivating oneself to do this every morning. Thoroughly recommend that the book and CD are purchased together and just try it for a month. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Feels like the next step in the evolution of yoga!
It's difficult to find anything really unique in yoga these days-But this book is it!Sure the concept of partner yoga has been presented before, But not like this. Here, the `practice' transcends to communal ceremony...as playful as you like, yet leading to sensitive, divine connection. And, it's not limited to asanas ....All maya koshas are honored: (physical/breath/ mental-emotional/ intuitive/and bliss bodies). And, I really like the descriptions of the chakras and using mudras with a partner (so creative and original).5-0 out of 5 stars A beautiful, heartfelt celebration of partner yoga

This book was origionally published as 'The Love Keys: The Art of Ecstatic Sex'.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Books Around on Tantra
Some tantra guides seem very clinical. They just lay out the dance steps in little rubber footprints on the floor. This author really feels like she's speaking from a very deep personal journey. She shares her heart and soul as well as her intimate knowledge of how bodies work. I appreciated the many specific insights she offered, both technical and emotional. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to put the principles of tantra into practice and succeed. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars quite comprehensive
I thought this book was excellent--I'm using it with my four-year-old, who has learned all 5 yanas and is able to recite them. 5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Yoga Series + Variety of Postures to Heal Ailments
This is by far my favorite Yoga book. I have been practicing Hatha Yoga for years (Hatha Yoga is the physical Yoga that is the most common form in the Western world), but have discovered that many of the techniques and sets of asanas (exercises) described in Yoga books were not very tuned in to Westerners. Acu-Yoga combines Acupressure and Hatha Yoga into a very palatable form for the common Westerner. It is the best book I've seen as of yet for anyone suffering an acute or chronic disease or symptom. There are symptomatic exercises for such discomforts as the common cold, sinus problems, menstrual tension to exercises for more serious problems such as hypertension and spinal disorders. I have often warded off an oncoming flu or cold by following some of the advice in Acu-Yoga. There is additional supplemental advice from Michael Gach, in terms of lifestyle and nutritional imbalances - and very effective solutions to bring our bodies back into a state of harmony.5-0 out of 5 stars Yoga for Beginners and Experienced Practitioners
This is the one book that I recommend for anyone interested in yoga and overall health. By combining postures with meridians, (flows of energy thruout the body)and specific organs of the body, the information gives the yoga practitioner a more complete sense of the benefits of that posture. This also allows for a better focus, more mindfulness of the posture and intent. The photos and essays are clear and easy to view. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Acu-Yoga
I'd agree that Gach writes a very straight forward and simple book. If you are a beginner to the acupressure/kinesiology world, you will easily understand the basics [with the aid of this book]. The book gives many useful points, but for general problems most of the time. His knowledge in some promblematic areas goes into more depth than others. So, if you are looking for help with a specific problem, little information might be given or non at all. For example, the book gives great explanations and cures for colds, indegestion, depression and headache, however, it explains very little about allergies and sinuses. Gach backs his explanations with a strong facts and basic common sense.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Start with this as a basic reference
An excellent starter book. An emphasis on an enjoyable practice that complements and enhances one's life.Great photos.A thorough, well-rounded introduction to yoga.Start with this and then go on to books that are more specialized.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Yoga Book!
I am a Yoga teacher, and I recommend this book for home practice. The point of Yoga is to turn inward, and really feel what your body is doing, and what your body needs. In classes, we tend to get competitive, which really hinders our practice. This book is a great way to learn poses to do at home, and without having someone there yapping at you the entire time, you tend to really FEEL the poses. I think classes are important to learn postures and how the corrected posture feels, but I encourage people to have a home practice as well. This book is wonderful.... big pictures makes it easy to use while practicing, and a few different series of Asana's in the back help guide you through an at home class. The basic meditation helps people start to understand how to quiet the mind, and the Chakra info is wonderful! Namaste!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Good Yoga Book for Home Practice
This is my one of my favorite yoga books... it explains about lines of energy, chakras, the different types of yoga and Hatha Yoga, and of course, is full of some basic poses. It also includes some sequences for different occasions, included the classic Sun Salute. The nice thing about this book is that it also has clearly explained breathing exersizes, and what the do. It also has a nice intro to meditation, and includes severla different meditatoin techniques to introduce you to this idea.Of course, if you don't take classes, you SHOULD start taking them, and even if you do, this book will help you with your own at home rutine. Overall, a good little book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Girls...Don't let the "For the regular GUY" keep you away from YRG
Two of my "girl" friends started doing this YRG and I can not believe the transformation of thier shapes and even their mental outlook. I was so impressed I decided to give it a try and all I can say is..After my second day of doing the 20 minute workout, it hurt to even breathe and I didn't think it was doing much as I was learning the moves. But I am already motivated to add a change to my diet and I think this may be the perfect combination of several life style changes that may be just the thing that really really works.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great workout for regular guys
I am a long-time gym rat, and I have tried just about every workout that has come along over the past 30 years.I was very impressed with the workout that this book provides. No longer can one use the excuses of not having the time or equipment - this book gives it all to in an easy to follow format.

4-0 out of 5 stars How you too can improve your health and life....
I have read through this and followed the 20 minute workout now for about 4 weeks. I can tell you I was shocked...Along with the walking, I feel that with healthy eating this Yoga regiminent is fantastic. It isn't easy at first. But making copies of the 20 and putting it on a flow chart with Inhale and Exhale cues I have lost over 13 pounds in the past month and a half. The calorie burning has increased with my knowledge and consistency of my workout... can I recommend this book?Well I give it 4 stars and a DDP... BANG!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic introductory book for those interested in yoga
Where to begin? This is the most comprehensive guide to Yoga for beginners I've ever seen. It delves into background, history, breathwork, meditation, spirituality (not religion--it explains the difference), and, of course, the asanas, or poses. The information is interesting and lively, striking a nice balance between depth and simplicity. It's straightforward and clear, but with a playful tone.
4-0 out of 5 stars Everything you always wanted to know. . .
i read this book for my book club, and the meeting of the club included a yoga class. It is VERY thorough.I liked the "ouch" boxes, which remind the reader that the goal is not to hurt oneself, or to push beyond one's limits. There is perhaps more of the philosophy than I might have wanted, but this would be a reader's personal preference.Photos very helpful.

3-0 out of 5 stars For Hindus, not for Christians
If you are not a Christian you can disregard the following review as it does not apply to you and this book may be just what you are looking for (thus the neutral rating) It seems to be a pretty decent guide to Yoga.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Iyengar book
This is a great book for the new and the familiar to yoga. This compilation of lectures is a more philosophical look at his yoga, unlike the more technical books Light on Yoga and Light on Pranayama.Although these last two are indispensible, in this book, Iyengar's love of yoga shines through his words. He develops the analogy of the eight limbs of yoga as a tree skillfully and beautifully.Really excellent!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read on yoga principles
While being an avid yoga practicioner, the first time I got to know anything about B.K.S. Iyengar was when I picked up this book.Since then, I have done much more reading by him.Tree of Yoga was wonderful in explaining some basic principles of yoga, and the concepts behind it.The book didn't go into explaining or documenting the various asanas (for that read Light on Yoga), but instead spoke of the history of yoga, the concepts, types, what it was about, etc.4-0 out of 5 stars Light from one of the great teachers of yoga
B. K. S. Iyengar achieved an international reputation with the publication of his classic Light on Yoga in 1966, which today stands as the definitive work on hatha yoga, a work made distinctive not only by the 602 photographs of Iyengar himself demonstrating the various poses, but by the detailed manner in which they are explained. He was then 38-years-old. Since then he has written several other books on yoga and lectured widely while continuing his teaching practice. He is today recognized as one the greatest of all yoga teachers.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Teaching Yoga to Children!
This is a super cute yoga book for children, starring (and narrated by) Babar the Elephant. It talks about the earliest days of yoga (apparently, yoga was actually invented by elephants, although they looked more like woolly mammoths in the illustration), and then tells of how it was rediscovered and spread once again through the elephant world not long ago. Babar then takes us through his daily practice, and ends with some ideas of yoga to do on vacations at a variety of famous places (including the Golden Gate Bridge).
1-0 out of 5 stars not for kids
The poses are too advanced for younger children. The book cannot be used to read to children, since it is boring reading instructions.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Darling Book
Hatha Yoga is generally form based.Elephants need to know the "proper" position for their trunks while they perform asanas. The author shows where the trunks should be positioned for maximum effect.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book!!!
My 21 month old absolutely loves this book! She will look at it page by page, over and over.I know practically nothing about yoga (my mother-in-law bought the book), but my daughter started doing the yoga poses on her own after looking at the book and now we both have a lot of fun trying all the poses.I would recommend this book for any child, especially the ones who can't get enough of books with pictures of children.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very natural
While this is a very cute book for any mom with an affinity for yoga; the photography catches these babies in such natural positions, it is beautiful to see how natural yoga is for us.I bought it for my sister-in-law who is a yogi and new mom, she loves it.I wish the book was larger though - small in size but large in heart.
5-0 out of 5 stars The most adorable things ever!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars So helpful
I wish I would have discovered this book with my previous two pregnancies.I found the information helpful regarding childbirth and pain management.I got great relief from back pain (I had physical therapy that didn't workthe first two pregnancies) and relaxation through the yoga practice.Iwould recommend this book to any pregnant woman. It has made my pregnancymuch more enjoyable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Recommended!
From about the 5th month of my pregnancy until I delivered my son I did yoga, using this book, 4-5 times a week.I loved it!I was able to relieve virtually all the aches and pains that crop up during pregnancywith one posture or another. And beginners can use this book - I had neverdone yoga before my pregnancy and this was easy to follow.I recommendfollowing the author's suggestion to first read the book, then read theinstructions for each posture you want to do into a tape recorder and thenplay the tape back as you do the exercise. The exercises strengthen youfor delivery and also give you some quiet time to stay in touch with (andappreciate) all that's going on with your body. ...
