5-0 out of 5 stars Titan Training Mauel
Great purchase, Timely shipping, Perfect condition, My husband loved the body building book.... Would definetly use again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet mother of crap!!!!
I've always been a real dedicated lifter.i started a cutting diet and didn't do some things right(cardio 3 times a day, ouch!) This stupid mistake brought my strength down on all lifts tremendously. I bought Titan Training Manual and within 5 days of working out with it, my strength has nearly returned. I went from benching 220 for 10 reps to 240 for 9 reps at a bodyweight of 168. that's the most i've ever seen in that short a time. I'd recommend this book to anyone who is in bodybuilding or powerlifting, or if you're just looking to stun you workout buddy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Program You'll Ever Do!!
I was on Leo's Big Beyond Belief program for nearly two years and couldn't believe the difference it made. I switched to the Titan Training and Behold! I found something even better. The program is difficult in its intensity, but it only takes 45 minutes four days per week. You will be amazed!Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Extreme - The 2.4% Body Fat Diet is worth it, but careful with the rest (steroid use).
Ripped is the sort of book you want to keep on your shelf when you feel that you want to take your diet to a whole other level for a short period of time (or longer if you can do it). Clarence Bass should also be congratulated for telling it like it is. He just comes straight out and says "I have taken steroids to keep from loosing muscle when I diet". He talks about his cycles. I read this book in day. It is only 88 pages. Probably the big question is what he eats to look like that. The answer is actually quite obvious. He eats hardly anything. But before we get to that, let us talk about Clarence, and his classic book Ripped. Basically Clarence got into bodybuilding late in the game and entered the over 40 contents for Mr. America and Mr USA. He wins a lot of them because he isn't just ripped, the guy is etched. His abdominals are chiselled. So naturally there are those out there who want that look and he tells you straight how he did it. He figured out how to diet down and keep muscle while involved in weight control experiments with NASA who took an interest in him. He also describes the water tank displacement method of calculating body fat percentages (BF%). However he does talk a bit about training and a lot of stuff has changed. Basically he tried bulking and cutting but lost all his muscle when he dropped his BF% to the low figures using traditional bulk and cut methods. So he took steroids next time and he kept his muscle. That is basically what he did and so for natural bodybuilders the book sort of stings when you read this. You are not going to learn how to keep lots of muscle and drop your BF% down to 2.4% without roids by using the advice in Ripped. However a lot has changed since then with regards to bulking and cutting and trying to stay lean while not getting too fat. Clarence obviously got too fat and so lost a lot of muscle he gained because he had to cut drastically. Nowadays bulking and cutting is more controlled than what Clarence did in the late 70s. So apart from that the only real reason to get Ripped is for his mad cutting diet that will strip everything off you to make you not just Ripped, but etched! So for the etched look he recommends some eggs and cereal for breakfast, peanut butter sandwich and yogurt with an apple for lunch. Some eggs, toast and a salad as big as you can eat for dinner. The evening meal has milk, some supplements and decaffeinated coffee. He has some other diets in the book, but not many and they are really borderline crazy like what you have just read there. Nobody would seriously think about these kinds of diets unless they really want to go from very slim to extreme and that is where this book works. It is all very extreme dieting (for people with defined abs who want to bring out other parts that are rarely seen!) and good to know how to shave of a few extra lbs. It is all extreme stuff but if it is extreme you want it is extreme you will get.
3-0 out of 5 stars A Bit Dated
This is really a pretty good little book regarding bodybuilding diets, etc. It has some references about steroid use. Just remember this book was written in late 1970's - early 1980's. It's got some good diet hints.

5-0 out of 5 stars Clarence is the MAN!
I first started reading and following the ripped program two years ago. I grew up a chubby kid and had weight problems as an adult. growing up on refined foods. since i was a "guy" it seemed to be no big deal. i was just husky. I lost a bunch of weight 10 years ago. mainly because i cut down on the beer, and heavy breakfasts. I was 5'11" and weighed 230lbs, and dropped down to maybe 180. Still i was kinda flabby. i have tried diferant programs over the years with no real benifits. the infomercials always looked so good. i always wanted that chiseled/ripped look, but NEVER could obtain it. I thought maybe it was just me, and it was not possible. well let me tell you IT IS. With Clarence Bass's aproach you will succeed. It is really easy which of course is important if you want to stick to it. he is VERY thorough, and has done his homework. being an attorney i guess it is in his nature. i have all but one of his books, but this is the one i am reveiwing. since it was his first and mine. all CB's books are awesome. i have read them all over and over till i practically had them memorized. his "three pronged aproach" is his/the secret.one day i started noticing that is was getting Ripped. i could not belive my eyes. i swear i would look in the mirror and think who is that. and all the guys/girls in the gym were looking at me too. i am not kidding. it is really easy to follow and understand. buy all of Clarence Bass's books! you will not be sorry. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars helpful, but flawed layout
I found this to be a helpful overview of weight training for women, but my major criticism is the shabby job of coordinating the layout of text and drawings. Most of the drawings demonstrating an exercise are not put on the same page as the text description of that movement! A major drawback to an exercise book...

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for safe, effective weight training.
I have examined a number of books on this topic, and found them wanting; in this small volume I found precisely the information I needed. The Fahey/Hutchinson book shows exercises for Nautilus and Universal Machines, and free weights as well.It is organized by regions of the body; for each exercise, the muscle group to be focussed upon is depicted by a line drawing, helping the trainee to visualize the region. The final chapter relates the important topics of diet and exercise in rather summary fashion, but as in every chapter, references are given for periodical articles and books on the subject.I would have liked a chapter on stretching, and how weight training might fit into an overall exercise program, and how exercise and aging interact. But those are minor quibbles; this book gives clear and safe instruction for the woman who wants weight training to be a part of her life for reasons of health and appearance ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for beginners!
I've read several reviews here stating that this book is only good for beginners. I've been playing for years, and I don't think I know all there is to know on the subject.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best book ever for a beginner!!
Five years ago I was that beginner.I studied this book as though I were taking a college course. Two years ago I bought my own pool table.Sorry Ewa, not a Brunswick. Now that I'm ready for them, I have just ordered 3 books by Robert Byrne's.I also have a pool mentor/friend who teaches me and loans me pool videos.

5-0 out of 5 stars Proper AB training explained
The book is good, and really details the proper way to train your core.It is focused on training your lower abs so that they will adequately compensate for antagonizing muscles.Proper training of the abdominal muscles will result in better posture, less exposure to injury and better definition of the core muscles. It's critical to strengthen your core since it must stabilize you in almost all body movements. This book is a great step in learning how to do this. The diet info at the end is a little out-dated, and based on low fat intake. After reading this section, I would recommend skipping it and instead following the advice for diet and nutrition found in Paul Chek's latest book Eat, Move, and Be Healthy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good book on ab development, but outdated
I have to give this book credit, it sticks to its topic very well, making the book concise and easy to follow. It opens with the basics of ab anatomy and then moves in to various exercises and programs for strengthening and developing the abdominals.Only at the end does it stray slightly off course and discuss the nutritional aspects of ab development.4-0 out of 5 stars Definitely very good for beginner
Definitely very good for beginner, although I have to agree that flipping pages back and forth during the exercise is not very convenient. Authors could position material better or include a separate workout sheet. Most of the excersices can be done at home. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wanna be Inspired?
This wonderful book gives a backstage pass to the life and times of some of bodybuilding's greats!Just to name a few, we have Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dave Draper, Franco Columbo, and Mike Katz.Pages of beautiful photography accompany this explicitly written novel, one of my all time favorites. Dick has the unique ability to take you back in time, show you the real men of muscle, and give a bird's eye view of what their lives were really like on a daily basis.Lighthearted humor and truthfulism is expressed throughout. This book is enlightening, inspiring, and motivational. This is the genuine article, a definite keeper.Special thanks to my great friend Karen DeCoster for giving me this, the best birthday present ever.

5-0 out of 5 stars #1 BBS Manual: "Training to Failure" - D.I.Y Hercules for Everybody
*Note* There is a revised edition of this book.
3-0 out of 5 stars A Classic but dated
I bought and read this book about ten years ago. I used it to start a weightlifting program. There is alot of good information in this book. However, the book is somewhat dated. As I learned from other serious, competitive body builders, there is too much training advised in this volume. Even people who juice don't train this much - and you don't have to to achieve great results. For example, Dorian Yates trains alot less than what Arnold advises in this book and he was Mr. Olympia for a number of years. Consequently, you better off purchasing a more recently published book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for a Beginner and a Advanced body builder
I love this book.I have read many body building and fitness books but this one covers every thing.Evrything you need to know about any body part is in here.Arnold didn't hold back.It is very creative and makes you want to create a a training schedule for yourself. My brother and I actually fought over this book and it fell apart on us so I had to order a new one.I highly recommend this book to any person who wants to do weight lifting. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Workout Book
What I like best about this book is that Cory and her husband have puttogether a really comprehensive set of photographs illustrating how to dovarious exercises.I take this book to the gym with me for referenceduring my work out.The book has single handedly taught me some principlesof free weights.4-0 out of 5 stars Good reference for weight training exercisers
I found this book to be a useful reference in my weight training program. Cory gives good examples of many exercises, from beginner to advanced.Ifind her exercises more similar to mens than any other women's fitness bookI've read.Because of this, it is most useful for the advanced weightlifter. One draw-back is that the publication date is old (1991).I wouldlove to see Cory update this book in the near future.Overall, a greatbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent workout and dietary advice from 5-time Ms. Olympia
Cory does an excellent job of describing exercises through text and pictures. Helps people of different fitness levels put together exercise programs for getting into shape. She also tailors special workout routines for those interested in preparing their bodies for any of 47 different sports. Excellent advice on aerobic exercise and nutrition. As a guy, I'm convinced the gorgeous pictures of Cory are worth the price of the book!Buy the book for that reason--and develop a great workout program for free! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars All one will need is this book.......
An excellent mind/body wholistic health educator, that not only gets one into to great shape, but also help's one deal with the whole range of emotional issues that accompanies a fitness program.I have found that the techniques learned in this book extends way past the gym, and into every aspect of my day-to-day life. One doesn't need to purchase useless pills, prepared meals, or powders to full-fill the author's well thought out programs and nutritional advice. In fact, one can do most of the book's mind/body exercises on the local walking trail or in one's bedroom, and all the proper foods can be purchased at one's local grocery store.
4-0 out of 5 stars A good book, with one reservation.
Not only is this a very thorough book, but it is available fromAmazon's 'new & used'sourcesforquite a low price, considering how recently it was published. I recieved a hard cover edition for 5.94!I only have one complaint: Most of Ilg's promotional photos on-line show him using an elaborate system of yoga blocks, presumably to enhance the forms' effectiveness. I was quite interested in this aspect of his training, andwas, ( I feel, rightfully), assuming that the book would elaborate in this direction. Unfortunately, there is no mention whatsoever of the blocks and their uses here in the book. Why?

5-0 out of 5 stars Steve Ilg Rocks!

5-0 out of 5 stars No longer the only eight-time winner, but still the man for the job.
Ronnie Coleman has equaled Haney's eight Olympia wins, butLee Haney is the only top bodybuilder who's actually been concerned with putting programs together for the average person to add muscle and strength. I'd love for a DVD of all of his old TV exercise showsto be released.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lee Haney remains numero uno
This quality book by a quality gentleman who just happens to be the most prolific (and least disputed) Mr. Olympia is a book that needs to be read if you're serious about a serious subject. I recommend the Lee Haney videos which can accentuate what this book displays page after page. Warning: the mesomorphic form he's been blessed with is rarely built to this level of symetry and depth, so your results won't match, just use the techniques to accentuate your own gift.Mr. Haney's cable [ch. 19, in Fort worth] show combines more about mind-, body- and spirit-strengthening in twenty-five minutes than anyone. Since he autographed my copyat the one chance I had to hear him speak, it's priceless. He remains "TotaLee Awesome"!

3-0 out of 5 stars Way too hardcore
This book is definitely not for beginners or even intermediate or advanced bodybuilders. It is for the pros! The routine is Haney's own and is way too much for normal people.Besides, each person's body is unique and will require a different routine to build mass.Try "Weider's System of Bodybuilding" for a more personalized approach. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Andrew Baye used to be a critic of these theories. Now he's written the forward for the book, and a review here.
I love how, on one hand Littletouts as a last-ditch technique for advanced bodybuilders, and on the other hand mentions huge gains in short time-frames; gains that are unlikely in any circumstance,(except for a natural bodybulderbegining steroids),and impossible for a truly advanced bodybuilder. There'sa trend in strength and fitness publishing to keep their books out of stores, in order to try and keep techniques a secret from those who don't "buy the book". Rather than get books for details. The author should be more generous with information, rather than build this phoney secret campaign. Contrasting this attitude with the intellectual generosity of trainers such as Scott Sonnen/Rmax, and Ross Enamait, and AMCT seems like very little value for the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars SCIENTIFIC & PRECISE
This is the first bodybuilding book to actually take a critical and scientific look at the physiological and psychological mechanisms of the body that operate to preserve the status quo. This really explains why building muscle is so difficult for most people, particularly trainees that have already put on muscle and are looking to go to the final level (which, depending upon their genetics, may not ever be as great as they hope). John Little has done a masterful job of laying the obstacles out on the table and then applying science to overcoming them. The Omega Set is incredibly intense. I used Max Contraction with great success (gaining 14 pounds of muscle) in the past and am just starting to experiment with the Omega Set. It is definitely "the last word" (Omega) in high intensity training. The Nautilus North Study is must read material for all personal trainers.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-read for advanced bodybuilders
As a bodybuilder becomes more advanced, progressively increasing resistance is not enough. Further progress towards one's genetic limits requires the use of even more demanding repetition methods. The Omega Set is about as demanding as they come.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Intelligent and Sensitive Testimony to Strong Women
This museum-quality, coffee-table book is outstanding in every respect.Produced to accompany the New Museum of Contemporary Art exhibit, the bookfaithfully recaptures the power and immediacy of the exhibit photographsand art reproductions. The authors gathered the finest images from the longhistory of strong women, spanning the worlds of circus, of cartoons, ofclassical sculpture, and of modern bodybuilding. The illustrations andtheir captions convey a story in themselves, without ever needing to readthe text. But what a storehouse of information is contained in the text! Asa professional female bodybuilder myself, I have read nearly everythingabout my sport. This book gives an honest portrayal of the sport and of theways in which female bodybuilders are presented to, and perceived by, thedominant culture. It effectively conveys the Catch-22 that enmeshes womenof strength. Would a female sprinter be told, "Run fast, but not toofast. Don't try to run as fast as the men." How this situation came tobe, and its effect on the sport's top competitors is carefully andresponsibly presented here. The interviews with five very diverserepresentatives of women's bodybuilding are, in themselves, worth the priceof the book. In addition, the authors present essays by the sports'acknowledged top historian, Steve Wennerstrom, and the sports' premieresociologist, Leslie Heywood. The essays are daring, provocative, andbrilliantly illustrated. Issues of race and class are addressed head-on.This is a strong book that doesn't apologize for itself or its subjects. This book will be enjoyed by anyone who has a fascination with women andstrength. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Beware Beginners
I purchased this book because I am familiar with plyometrics, having done them years ago in high school athletics. But, I am an adult now, and wanted to reacquaint myself with some plyometric exercises to give me an edge in my running.
4-0 out of 5 stars A great introductory plyometric book
This book is worth the price ($14) alone just for the plyometric routines in the back of the book. The description and science behind plyometrics are excellent and easy to read. My only complaint about the book is that some of the exercises are hard to grasp from the given instructions.4-0 out of 5 stars Great Start to Plyometrics
High-Powered Plyometrics is an excellent book for those striving to achieve maximum power from their fitness program of choice. This book gives plenty of information about the human physiology, necessary to understand how the body reacts to physical conditioning. It then smoothly incorporates a detailed outline of the how's and why's that make plyometrics work. The authors of the book share their accumulation of research with the reader to grant him the ability of self-evaluation. This book is amazing, it even gives you outlines for building your own jump boxes from scratch, should you be inclined to do so.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It's like the old proverb says........
There's an old saying "For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. For those who don't, no explanation will suffice." This book and my experience with people's reaction to this book prove the old saying true. I have practiced Aikido since 1990 and left military service as a major in the Air Force (having come from a largely military family on both sides). I remember shortly after starting aikido going to a seminar taught by Saotome Sensei in Phoenix at which the author had been brought for ukemi (attacker for the demonstration) and someone pointing him out as the author of a new book about aikido and the military. I have read the book several times since as I have matured in aikido and grown as a person, and each time I think I get something new and different out of it. I now teach a small dojo in San Marcos TX and my class is roughly half current or ex-military and half college students. I find it amusing how little the two groups sometimes understand each other, and I often recommend this book to my students, especially the military ones. I have not yet heard a less than glowing review. Military service and aikido are both preoccupied with the question of "acceptible levels of violence" "necessary evils" as well as the simple concept of self improvement with training. This is the best discussion of these issues in an aikido framework I have seen, and aside from Terry Dobson "Giving in to Get your way" and Westbrook/Ratti's "Aikido and the Dynamic Sphere", the only coherent ones I have read. I highly recommend it. My personal preference ...I liked the earlier edition, but perhaps that's sentimentality because it affected me early and I liked it the way it was (the telling of a simple story). Adding more didn't really make it better, in my opinion, although I completely agree with Mr Strozzi-Heckler's analyses.

5-0 out of 5 stars A trendy term authentically defined: The Warrior paradox
When I serendipitously discovered this book at a local book store, I knew it was going to have an impact. When I began reading the first few pages I was immediately thrilled and deeply moved by how this book grappled with some of the same core issues of spirituality and the practical realities of the world that I have dealt with all my life. (I'm 48 years old.) I eagerly looked forward to reading this book every night for the next couple of weeks, both for the fascinating information it provides, the dilemmas it explores, and because it put me in a profound and thoughtful space, feeling my own warrior energy and intentions.
5-0 out of 5 stars Should not be read by those with double digit IQs
I read the orginal edition of this book.I enjoyed it so much that today, about 12 years after I read it the first time, I began a search for a copy to replace the copy I've lost.I was excited to see that there is a new edition. I was not excited to read the low reviews of the educationally-handicapped.
