4-0 out of 5 stars A good way to start the day
This book is just right for someone who wants to fit a little exercise into their day.The routines are easy but not effortless, and the warmups and exercises can usually be completed within 20 minutes. She recommends walking or jogging for 15 minutes for additional cardiovascular benefits.
2-0 out of 5 stars not impressed
This book doesn't appear to have been edited well ... there are grammatical errors and label errors, as though there was a rush to the printers. The photos are rather dark. However, on the plus side, the fitness models show good form on almost every page. The workouts actualy appear to be minimal workouts ... the authorclaims you can do the workout in 30 minutes ... it seems it would be much less at least for the beginner and intermediate stages, given you only do 1-2 sets for only a few exercises per day. I don't believe most would progress very far using these plans, or rather, you'd progress to the advanced stage very quickly or become discouraged from the lack of improvement in your physique. In addition, the book fell apart in less than a week ... the pages fell out ... I'll use them to post on my workout wall.Poor quality production IMO.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative, good exercise plans
This book gives excellent back-ground information as to the 'why' of weight-bearing exercises for women.Anyone who wasn't convinced before they read this book will be convinced after they read it.The book says on the cover that you will need 3-8 lb. weights, but actually you will need a dyna-band, a body-bar, and a large ball in addition to the weights.Three programs are given in the book - beginner, intermediate, and advanced. The exercises are challenging according to the level they aredesignated for.I like the exercises in this book and am using this book in addition to Smart Girls Do Dumbbells, Pilates exercises, and daily walking. This book offers a good program on it's own, or as an addition to other exercises you may already be doing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Truly the best in a crowded field
Clarence Bass continues to prove that his methods are higly effective, sound, and simple to follow for life.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sensible advice for us common people!!
If you are looking for a book that outlines a system of motivation, exercise and nutrition that anyone can follow, not just for a month but for decades, then this is pretty much the best book on the market. This book is especially useful for those of us who are over 30, work fulltime, have a family, and don't feel like getting a second job to afford the supplement regimes many other authors recommend!
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
Mr Bass gives a lot of good sound advice concerning diet and exercise that has helped me.Using his advice i've been able to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time, which i didn't think was possible.I think that his plan is something i can follow for my life, not just a quick way to starve off twenty pounds.I have done that before, but have been unable to maintain it because my weight loss was largely muscle. In the past i've had a very hard time building muscle but his prescription has helped.I think this book would improve the health of many people who instead yo-yo on fad diets of all kinds.Unlike many fiet and fitness book writers, Mr bass does not come across as if he is trying to sell you something. I purchased the book based on Dr Weil's endorsement. They may be good personal trainers but the book is impractical.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read, But ...
I bought this book hoping to expand on the strength training program I do at home.I'm a competitive track athlete and am dependent on strength exercises to prevent injury.4-0 out of 5 stars i recommend this book to many clients
the whartons are very experienced and knowledgeable, and i found their descriptions of the exercises totally clear and understandable. This book gave me the ability to feel completely confident that i could work out athome, where i wanted to be. The lifts are for the whole body, with theemphasis on balance rather that just looking good.for the person whowants to work out at home, i haven't seen anything better.I found thesports discussions pretty vague and they definitely should delete thehorsebackriding section! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
One of the top 10 exercise/bodybuilding books ever wriiten. Easy to understand and with a wealth of information. The first 52 pages describe very simply how to eat succssfully for bodybuilding and life. A great book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of good advice
The main reason it didn't get five stars is because it billed as a general fitness book, but contains a reasonable amount of bodybuilder specific info. Also, lean for life, his other book, might be a better general buy.BUT Mr Bass gives a lot of good sound advice concerning diet and exercise that has helped me.Using his advice i've been able to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time, which i didn't think was possible.I think that his plan is something i can follow for my life, not just a quick way to starve off twenty pounds. In the past i've had a very hard time building muscle but his prescription has helped.I think this book would improve the health of many people who instead yo-yo on fad diets of all kinds.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect guide for strength training for cyclists
This book is very well laid out.It is an excellent guide for the beginner and a nice, well-organized reference for the advanced cyclist.Every part of the book is laid out in a straightforward manner and the information is right on in every respect.Whole training plans are sampled for the season, and easy-to-use charts are used to track your progress.
5-0 out of 5 stars Made me a climber!
I bought this book over a year ago, and followed the program as laid out by the authors. All I can say is WOW!I am now hammering guys on climbs that used to leave me in the dust.
1-0 out of 5 stars Did you play the clarinet in HS?, then this book is for you!!
I purchased this book in an attempt to improve my hill climbing, and endurance while riding.I was highly disappointed when this book arrived on my doorstep when I started reading through it.Don't be fooled by the exceprts you can read on Amazon, this book is meant for people who NEVER in their lives have seen the inside of a gym, or guys who have been on the Varisty Band Squad throughout High School and College, and were trying to get in shape for the prom because they were trying to bang the Football Captain's girlfriend while he was away winning the State Championships for their school. The first few tips on the "Basics of Weight Training" chapter (consists of 30 pages) starts out with really insightful tips such as : Choosing a Facility, (Is it in a convenient location?), Is the facility clean and well laid out?,Does it have a knowledgeable, educated staff?, What are the hours of operation?.Well thank God the authors added these questions to my list, because I was looking for a public gym in the least convenient location, with dirty machines and idiotic employees which isn't open when I am available to work out. (Can you smell my sarcasm?, good, because I'm laying it on pretty thick)

5-0 out of 5 stars New Edition is Way Better
I'm a multi sport athlete who trains all year round regardless of what sport I play. I bought a few of these Ultimate Guide to Weight Training books, and they definitely helped me train specifically for the different sports that I play. Then about a year later I received an email from amazon that there was a new edition out. These upgraded editions are even better than the originals, with more articles and a lot more sport-specific information. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who plays a lot of sports or wants to specifically focus on training for one sport in particular. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Information...Ab-solutely
Ah, I remember when my ab routine consisted of three rep sit ups tacked onto the end of a workout and my aerobics consisted of running across the gym parking lot get to the donut shop. I had a 28" waist and standout abs for years until I begrudginly entered my 30s. It was like I could literally see my abs dissappearing but yet I remained optimistic, "Oh, they'll be back...it's okay...it's all under control..." And then by the time I got to 35 years old, they were gone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference for anyone serious about bodybuilding
This is a comprehensive, fully illustrated, fully described, and straight to the point reference on exercises, principles of training, programs, and nutrition for serious bodybuilders and anyone looking to gain muscular mass without injuring himself.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I bought this book after about 3 months of working out following the Body for Life book. This is a great book for beginners because it gives a breakdown of basic anatomy and excercises that a beginner should know and outlines beginning workouts through intermediate and advanced routines and training principles. There is a great library of different exercises and photographs outlining the proper form and use for each exercise. The book is a little older and some of the information seems a little dated but it will help you build an excellent foundation to work from. The nutrition section is a little lacking though and even the beginner routines seem a little extreme for a true beginner. I would recommend this book to anyone who has been weight training for at least 3 or 4 months or is already in decent shape and looking to advance. A great book for true beginners is the Body for Life book.

1-0 out of 5 stars I followed this book for a couple of years
When I was a university student 14 years ago, I followed this book to the letter - 3 days in the gym every week for six months and then a split system which got me in the gym 4 days a week for another year or so.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Absolute BEST Motivation!!
I got this book ten years ago, and have been weight training/bodybuildingever since. With assistance from this book, I found it was easier tochange my body (from size 18 pants to size 8) than my mind. The pep talkat the beginning of the book really changed my life.I feel much betterabout myself now. When people ask me how I keep at it, I recommend thisbook, and am buying yet another copy for a friend who's gotten a new gymmembership, to keep her motivated!

This book has done wonders for me.I started out not knowing anything about different exercises for weight training and how to start a program. Now I am working out at least 4-5 times a week and loving every minute of it.I saw results quickly and the pictures helped me understand how to do the exercises correctly. This is a must!!! I would love to see more books from the two lady authors.
