4-0 out of 5 stars Great resource!
I like this book very much; the exercises are all great and cover a wide range. My book was not spiral-bound as one reviewer mentioned. That would have been a great bonus!

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful, but some caveats
This is one of the best books I've seen of it's type.It is well organized and the approach is realistic. There are three general types of workouts which are mentioned in other reviews i.e. firm foundation, slim and trim and muscle bound.Under each one there are three levels of difficulty. These workouts are well thought out and the general lifting guidelines are valid.
5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the 'Weight'...!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I think the book is excellent for anyone interested in personal fitness, regardless of whether or not they have joined or will join the marine corp. The stretches, explanations, and workouts seem to be carefully reviewed by professional physiologists and excercise scientists, but I dont know if that is really the case. the nutritional information is solid. It gives insightsinto boot camp and the marines life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid workout book.
I liked this book. To complement what other reviewers wrote, the book has actual day by day schedule of Marine boot camp pt exersices. It highlights the difference between OCS at Quantico and Parris Island/San Diego recruit training. In addition to daily 16 it has workout schemes for different time schedules. The photos were useful, as many would concentrate on a particular machine or exersice and show it from various viewpoints.
4-0 out of 5 stars It's got some uses
The 16-day workout plan and the exercise tutorials are good.A lot of the book has no use to the average home user.Unless you have access to a military training ground. It does highlight some of the stuff you will do in boot camp. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Hot Legs
This book will certainly disappoint if you're hoping to learn something new.The first 15 pages talk about the importance of weight training and cardio/aerobic exercise over and over and over. The workouts are not at all the challenge you would expect if you want "Hot Legs".What this book offered was a repeat of the same information you get in all the fitness magazines.Nothing new, creative or challenging. I finished it so quickly I could send it back in tomorrow's mail and I just received it today. What a disappointment. Don't waste your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good training info!
What a nice, concise guide to shaping up the legs.Logical sequence and good exercises are given throughout the book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Impressed!

1-0 out of 5 stars Merely a copy of Ayn Rand and Muscle& Fitness articles
Nearly half of this book is a reprint of Mike Mentzer's Heavy Duty Training Advice that the author reprinted from old Muscle and Fitness magazines. His material about Dorian Yates's training is reprinted from old muscle magazines as well and is partially incorrect at that. The ONLY thing good about this book were the pictures and he used virtually the same photos several times at that. Hey Little, how many times can you use a photo of Mentzer on a Nautilus Pullover machine? I am a HUGE Mentzer fan having had a phone consultation with him once but this book straight up sucks. I view this book as nothing more that trying to milk another dollar off of Mentzer's good name. As the previous review stated there is nothing here that is original. If you were a regular reader of muscle magazines, you know all of this information already. Save yourself the money and purchase a book written by Mentzer himself such as Heavy Duty 1 and 2.

2-0 out of 5 stars What exactly are we admiring?
In his bodybuilding career, Mentzer got his results from being a genetic freak, years of high volume training, and steroids. His only known 'success'as a trainerwith hislow-volume / high intensity philosophy was with Dorian Yates, who was -already- a world-class competitor,(ie:also genetically gifted, extremely motivated, and on steroids), and was only with Mentzer for about a minute. (Yates used multiple heavy warm-up sets, and was more of an instinctivetrainer, not a pure HIT or HD devotee.) Mentzer was in poor health, had a bad attitude, charged absurd prices for his advice, smoked, drank, took drugs, and died in his 40's! Do we wish to emulate this? The underlying exercise theories are from Arthur Jones, the underlying philosophy from Ayn Rand. Why not go to the source? (Additional note: I recommend the writings of Scott Sonnen on the differences between health and fitness. In a nutshell: You are only 'fit' in specific senses, ie, fit to run, to wrestle, to enter a bodybuilding contest, and in the broadest, but still valid sense, fit to lie on a sofa and watch TV. You get good at what you practice, 'fit' for it. Health is what we should strive for. Fit men die young all the time.)

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bible of H.I.T. bodybuilding
Well written and concise. Even though I already have the previous books this one went into more depth. A must have for those who have been on HIT for a year or more, and even a great book for anyone interested in beginning HIT. A MUST HAVE! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Timeless Advice That Works Well Today!
I got this book almost 15 years ago and it really worked for me.I used it to start my own workout regime and I got results within weeks.I still do many of the stretching exercises that I'd learned from this book today at the gym although I don't have as much time as before to do all the weight training exercises.I find both the stretching and the abdominal exercises here to be first class - easy to do and extremely effective - and should time permit and I get more time say at least 3 hours to spare at the gym, I'll try to restart in full the routines outlined in this book. This is highly recommended for anyone who has always wanted to get fit through weight training but didn't know how to start.

4-0 out of 5 stars it works
I have been working out for over 10 years and never did any sort of workout like this, but it works. I had a surgey and found myself in the weakest shape of my life, so i bought the book read it thaught it was stupid, but gave it a try anyway and now have been doing it for 3 months and can do the circuit with no problem 3 times in 45-50 mininutes with heavey weights.
3-0 out of 5 stars Effective routines despite many erroneous explanations
A great bodybuilder yet a lousy and lazy author and communicator, Arnold could have shrunk this book into one forth of its length and hired a well-educated editor to present more compelling and accurate information. In this book, Arnold sounds more submissive to the cynicism of wealthy, lazy, and late starters from Santa Monica. He is pictured with his trainees in-person in the simplest and most ridiculous exercises that a mature adult could contemplate doing. Thus, the entire book is geared for those late starters that are hard to motivate who need the simplest routines, in a nutshell.

5-0 out of 5 stars Experience ProBodX, Then Decide
I have actually read ProBodX and done the exercises (unlike the two "one star" reviewers below) and this is by far the best program I've ever done. The results are fast, the program is challenging, and the time needed is moderate (though it does take longer at first when you're learning how to do the exercises). My biggest complaint is the name "ProBodX" - it does nothing for me.The program is more of a "total" or "complete" or "comprehensive" body workout.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Functional Way to Fitness, Athleticsim & Health
I'm a professor, certified specialist in sports conditioning, and top level skier/alpine snowboarder. The progressive programs that Marinovich and Heus explain in this volume are basic yet sophisticated, energizing yet effective. I've done several exercise programs for general health and ski/snowboard fitness over the years: circuit training, yoga, pilates, anaerobic lifting, interval training and Tae-Bo. All of these, especially when combined into a yearly schedule with reasonable goals, are effective. Yet, the proprioceptive facilitation, core fitness and holistic body coordination that Marinovich and Heus present here are the best single program you could adopt. They give you several different programs, from beginners to elite athletes, that help your aerobic capacity, anaerobic strength, coordination, balance and agility - sometimes all within a single exercise! At the same time, they explain how this program avoids the burnout and overuse injuries that yoga, heavy power lifting and too much aerobic work can cause.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good overall
Like the previous reviewer mentioned, this book works way too hard at selling itself. However, the exercises are excellent.I think the point is to teach your body to stabilize from the core while doing sports or just moving generally. It's a full body approach, and you definitely feel like you've a had a workout and a good stretch afterwards. It's kind of like pilates but more functional. It has lots of progressions so even if you're in great shape you'll be challenged. The diet at the end is basically the zone diet except it tells you only to eat organic food if possible, and it has lots of recipes.Read more

If you feel totally clueless whenever you step into the strength-training section of a gym, then "Muscle Mechanics" is the book for you. For many bodybuilding and fitness novices, learning the proper form or way to lift, pull, or push bars, pulleys, or other gadgets that are commonly found on a gym floor can be a task itself. Without the assistance of a personal trainer, which can be an expensive investment, weight training can be very difficult, if not hard for most.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Complete Plan to Get the Very Best Results - I Lost more than 200 Lbs !!!
I love this book. It truly is a complete reference to fat lost and getting in shape in a Healthy way. It has sound theory on strength training and smart eating, and a good selection of exercises for muscle building.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very comprehensive and well written.
I found this book to be extremely helpful and in-depth. It keeps everything from the workouts to the diets very structured but at the sme time allows for personalization. I would highly recomend this book to anyone (beginners and experts).

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a good resource for specific workouts
I'm not sure what the others were reading but I thought this was a waste of my money. The book is huge- much bigger than I expected- but I was looking for some specific workout programs and it falls way short on that. It claims to have a 12-week program but I've thumbed through several times and can only find 3 weeks worth. Perhaps I have to dive into it more but I find it confusing to find what you're looking for and unorganized. If you're looking more for information about working out, diets, etc. then maybe it's for you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Critically Acclaimed Advanced Natural Bodybuilding
This is not the first McRobert book you should buy. I recommend that you head in the direction of his "The Insider's Tell-All Handbook on Weight-Training Technique". That book shows you how to use perfect form in the gym. He also released a new book that is like a replacement to this book of form called "Build Muscle, Lose Fat, Look Great". Get either one or preferably both, but his books are increasingly hard to find without ordering directly from the publisher. They are considered the picture books in the series. There is no point in going here unless you get the moves right first. Learn Squatting, Deadlifts and Bench Presses. Learn these 3 well. When you do then maybe you have reason to get "Brawn" and then if you want, follow that reading up with "Beyond Brawn". "Brawn" has no pictures and "Beyond Brawn" has some, but they are very much text books, so you will be in for a lot of reading. What is a Hardgainer? A Hardgainer is simply someone who is not a genetically gifted individual who takes drugs to enhance their already immense build. Who are these drug users? They are ones who are in bodybuilding books, the covers of top bodybuilding magazines and filling most of the pages. Stuart McRobert claims that these individuals are all drug users... and he is right. Some of the genetically gifted people use steroids like it was a dinner. The top competition winning bodybuilders where always gifted. They travel from all parts of the world to congregate together for gym training in the same places because they are gifted. They are not like us. They are called Easygainers and according to McRobert, who has spent 30 years in the gym, they have absolutely no understanding of how to train people who are not gifted like them. To a large degree McRobert is correct. It is impossible for Woody Allen to create a body like Arnold Schwarzenegger even if he did eat right, exercises right, lifts weights right and takes as much steroids as his body could handle, he will never be able to compete with an Arnold who even stopped doing all of the above. However Woody Allen could develop his own potential and be muscled up in his own way. In Brawn, McRobert will talk you down at the start, convincing you that unless you are one of these gifted few you are wasting your life trying to achieve these professional bodybuilding competition sizes that are influenced heavily by drug use. He is right. Then he goes on to tell you that some Hardgainers have progressively gone on to push a single 300lbs/136kg Bench Press, 400lbs/182kg Squat and 500lbs/227kg Deadlift. Anyone who has spent a large amount of time, going to a normal gym (not the ones occupied by the genetically gifted only) will know that these kind of single lifts are well beyond the expectations of even the experienced. Yet Brawn can take you there. How to do just that is what makes Brawn a must read. Although Brawn may tend to say a lot of the same stuff over and over again in the introduction chapters, it soon gets into the meat. Goals are Bench Press 6-8 x 250lbs/112kg, Squats 15-20 x 300lbs/136kg, Deadlift 15-20 x 350lbs/158kg Deadlift. Now here comes the important part. If you find yourself doing any other exercises other than these three then you are doing something wrong, or you are very big and are using conditioning exercises for toning. These three gain muscle and virtually every other exercise out there just tones muscles. So you should be fully focused on these three like they where the only exercises bodybuilders can do. Forget all the rest for now. Start a cycle of each exercise at 70% of what you can do (say 10 reps before failure, start at 70% of this). Then increase by 2.5lbs/0.5kg or 5lbs/1kg max every week to two weeks, only working the exercise two times a week at most, once a week maybe better, or even take once every two weeks, depending on how long you need to recover (when the soreness goes away and you feel like you can give it your all again, an absolute must to gain). As you get towards week 10 you can reduce the reps you do to lift more weight. By week 14 you can go down to 5 reps but not much less. Do this for 12-14 weeks then break for a week or two. Go back to 70% of the top lift and start all over again. This is the progressive method of lifting heavier weights using the 3 important exercises. If you find yourself not lifting more weight every time you do the exercise (and remember not to do them often, like 2 times a week at the very max, 1 time a week to two weeks for most) then you are not resting or you are adding too much weight. Personally I invested in small tiny little weights (all 0.5kg weights, but I would have got 0.25kg if I could get them!) to progress. This is how you build muscle. This is how it is done. No Explosive lifting, 3 seconds up 3 seconds down per rep, Strict Form using "The Insider's Tell-All Handbook on Weight-Training Technique", mind to muscle, imagine it is the last time you will ever do a set, annihilate last set with all the effort you can but keep strict form... or else stop the rep. This is called is called PPP - Progression Performance Persistence. Break for 1-2 weeks every 10-12 weeks. Try and get your cycles of the 3 exercises going like the above. The book then goes on to cover variations of this theme, includes many good routines for those who have really advanced themselves and then hits on specialization for someone who has amassed enough muscle to warrant these exercises. Do not read the nutrition chapter. The advice lets the book down badly. When you have got into the swing of what Brawn is teaching and you crave more then "Beyond Brawn" is exactly where you should go.
5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth it
I've read many books on the subject of Weightlifting, Bodybuilding and Strength over the past 5 or 6 years. 'Beyond Brawn' has a very old-school feel and is likely one of the most informative that I've ever read on the subject of strength/size building. This book is a must-have!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book
A well written book for gaining mass. The author's experiences are well the foundation of the book. I can say that anyone follows the author's recommendations WILL gain mass. 1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of my money...unhelpful book
This book is not great. There is a lot of useless fluff at the beginning of each chapter, when the author tells a long, very boring story (ie: an October day on a train) that is not conducive to building core strength. The pictures are in black & white, and there are not as many great exercises compared to other books. With this book, you'll probably spend all your time reading rather than doing exercises. This book is not direct or to the point, resulting in many pages that again, you'll have to read to find maybe one key point.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff From Colleen
As a Pro Trainer, there are only 2 fitness pros whose books & DVDs I approve of for my wife to use at home.
5-0 out of 5 stars Colleen is Amazing
I own all of Colleen's books and they just keep getting better and better. I ride horses and I was looking for a workout that would inprove my balance and help me to be more aware of what my body was doing. The best part of working out on a ball is that if you make a mistake the ball moves so you KNOW that you are doing something wrong! I recommend this book for eveyone! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good basic book
I'm a Physical Therapist Assistant, a Nurse, and an ACSM cert Health Fitness Instructor.Yessis goes over basic kinesiology as well as how to perform these exercises with safe form.He also goes into reasons WHY bad form is harmful, how to avoid as well as why certain exercises can be beneficial in certain sports. This is a great book to become familiarized with muscles, actions, and strict form.I recommend it for any trainer or athlete.I often give it as a gift to my clients when they complete training with me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book for the beginner
I've read about a half a dozen or so books on strength training. The worst thing for the beginner is getting injured, which is very easy to do, and could stop further training for fear of getting injured again. This book describes in detail the movements involved in the lifts and injury prevention. For this alone, it's worth it to get the book. Then, if you wish to continue there are other books to buy, such as "Weight Training-2nd: Steps to Success" which gives you workout plans and why to exercise opposing muscle groups, etc.

1-0 out of 5 stars Incomplete
You could find the information in this book in any number of places online. Not only would the information at a good Kinesiology website be more complete but you would also get moving gifs to show you proper form.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Shot Making Patterns in Action!!!
This book helps me to solve every problems or puzzles I stumbled on every pool table. I apply every topic on this book as a "Shot Making Patterns" on every game I played or watched on live pool hall games or on every sport televised pool games.
5-0 out of 5 stars Perceptive Analysis
When I was 10-17 years old, I was an avid pool player. I had a table at my house, and played 10 hours per day. Then college and family interfered and I put away the cue.
2-0 out of 5 stars It's ok for beginners
I only bought this book for the 9-ball section and was left a little disappointed. The book is aimed more at begineers so in that respect it is OK. I found that some of the diagrams did not really match the shot suggested and there was one mistake on page 106. That said this book is cheap and if you don't just play 9-ball then it could be worth the investment. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars not just more crunches
Because abs is one of my weak areas, I decided to get a book devoted to the subject.I haven't thoroughly read all the contents yet but have at least skimmed everything and looked over all the exercises.Overall, this is looking like a very good book for its intended purpose.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Body Flex~Body Magic" the Ultimate Book on Female Bodybuilding
Let me just start by saying that I've had another review of this book here at Amazon for months now, and suddenly it is gone.I'm not sure what happened.Oh, well. Here I am typing another one:
5-0 out of 5 stars Complete reference
A well written, complete BB reference for anyone. I hope they release another addition. The book is solid even for men.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for women's health!
This book is comprehensive and honest in approach to weight training and nutrition.Anja is a professional body builder who has written a book with information for all levels of weight training. The best things about weight training for women is that it helps build/maintain strength and it helps build/maintain BONE DENSITY.One does not have to be a body builder or go for alot of muscle mass to reap these benefits of weight training.I would recommend this book to anyone as it has so many different exercises and nutritional facts. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars don't buy this book
This book is so dumb- unless you are a super beginner, then maybe you could pick up some lifitng tips.It wastes time with junk like applying your makeup and getting plastic surgery- even if you do want to read about these things, it displays it in the most basic format.5-0 out of 5 stars A BIG boost of fitness advice and motivation!!
First of all, WOW, this book is HUGE!There are over 500 pages of fitness advice, photos, and motivation. It begins with a breakdown of equipment, including safety equipment. One thing I enjoy is it also goes into the physiology of how the body works and how it is affected by what we do with it.It has chapters for beginning strength routines, and also intermediate and advanced, so you can grow with this book, which is really nice. There are also separate chapters for each of the specific muscle groups.Name it, it's in here.Cardio, nutrition....even information on fitness careers and taking it to the competitive level. The nutrition section goes into vitamins and other nutrients as well as womens' health issues.I really enjoyed the chapters "Staying Motivated" and "Getting in Shape Doesn't Have to be Boring", because let's face it, losing motivation can be a killer to keeping up a fitness regimine.Throughout the book are photos of the beautiful fitness pros you see in Oxygen Magazine, I find these ladies to be very motivating to look at.I highly recommend this book, especially if you like Oxygen Magazine. The authors show both knowledge and sensibility, and it is very motivating and well balanced. ...
