I'm an experienced hiker and still found the book useful and entertaining. I didn't learn anything new, but I will guarantee you that novice hikers would benefit immensely from this. What is basic common sense to seasoned hikers may not come naturally to those just lacing up their boots for the first time. The book focuses primarily on how to keep your feet in shape during long treks and addresses such things as proper socks, shoes and lcimbing techniques. I wish the author would have addressed cardiovascular fitness more; he does mention the extreme importance of aerobic exercise as preparation, but doesn't stress that facet enough. Anyone who hikes long miles needs to be mentally and physically fit before attempting the undertaking, Plotkin tends to gloss over this and move on to other things.5-0 out of 5 stars trailman
I just finished reading this book and found it to be a valuable resource for my family and the boy scout troop I belong to. The 2-0 out of 5 stars A Book About What You Already Know.
I found most of this text to be kind of a waste.I'm an interemediate experience hiker but there's nothing new in this "bare bones" basic book.Even if I was just getting into the sport, I would NOT have learned anything that VERY basic common sense couldn't already tell me....Read more

STILL A GREAT WALKING TAPE.Was surprised that the music (except in the Pump Up the Pace WalkFit tape there were a few different "pop" songs) was the same.I think maybe Kathy Smith should have different music for all her tapes?This is for people who like to walk and like country western music.Perfect time of year to start using these walking tapes.

This tape is just one of a series of excellent audio cassettes by Kathy Smith which motivate you to keep moving for a great walking workout.The music is upbeat and is interspersed with reminders about technique, posture and positive attitude.You are also reminded halfway through the tape so you can turn around.I have been able to stay with my walking program on a regular basis since I began using the Kathy Smith Walk-Fit tapes and I credit the tapes with keeping me interested and motivated.

I was too overweight that I had to see a podiatrist to treat my heel pain. I had other multiple health problems due to being overweight until I started Kathy Smith's walkfit programs. she's very practical,straigthforward and highly informative in her approach to fitness. Istarted the program just 4 months ago, and I can no longer go for a day w/owalking! I've lost 20 pds. and feel much healthier and happier! I live inAsia and ordered her tapes when I was in America. I absolutlely recommendher books. It has changed my way of life, and I will never regret thischoice I made!

I've taken out several books from our local library over the years about walking. Actually, that's the only type of exercise I can stick to. Doesn't cost a thing, no getting in the car; just walk out your front door. You maythink Kathy Smith is just another pretty female fitness guru trying to sella new angle. But her book has facts and not alot of chat that really makethings clear. She did a nice job with this book. This book is wonderful. Sara Donovan has the perfect blend of content and compassion. This is a great log book for training and for logging races. The only things that should be changed: Cover should be made of a harder, more durable material. I can see this cover (it's softcover), is going to become very worn out and probably tear off before I can fill up the pages.Should also be spiral bound so it can lay flat, and also to make writing into the pages easier.Otherwise a great book, and at the sale price, worth it.

I've always had a Runner's diary.I use to buy the Jim Fix log book,untillhe died doing what he loved.This Runners Log Book by Barrett and Fitzgeraldis even better. Its great to go back to your book over the year's and seeif your doing better or worse.I can't believe how many miles I use to runwhenI was younger.After knee surgery,I'm just starting to get back intothe sport,along with weight lifting. Instead of running everyday,I take aday off to lift,and run the next. I have ordered this tape 3 times, because I keep washing it in the machine with my workout clothes. By far this is the most motivating tape trio I have had. I have used Kathy's tapes foralot of years, and this set is my favorite. I never get tired of it and she is am amazing person to listen to. I hope she comes up with more walking tapes soon!!
