5-0 out of 5 stars THE BOOK INSPIRED ME
I was one of the fortunate people who could eat anything anytime. Then, my first kid was born and I hit 30 ... and before I knew it I didn't like what I was seeing in the mirror.I found this book by accident, read a few pages and said to myself, "Heck, yeah, this guy makes sense!I don't need to kill myself and make everyone around me miserable to lose body fat."I did what he said and have stuck with it for ten years. The result?I'm as lean and more muscular than I was in my early 20's and all it takes is one hour of walking and rocking out with my MP3 player five times per week.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Idea: Just walk, believe in Yourself, and Keep walking.
I bought this book and the message is simple: Keep walking everyday, and don't stop. You don't have to be some fitness walker, but with time and practice you will add mileage to your workout. The cartoons or sketches are motivational and funny but they don't make one feel "silly" at any capacity, but it is the truth ,that if you want to improve healthwise-you have to walk each day and not give up. So find a partner if you need encouragement to walk every day or get the strength from inside you to go out and walk daily and improve your best present day life now. This book is recommended. Once you read the material read it again and again and again and just believe in yourself.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of a Kind
This book is an honest, refreshing guide on how to get started on the road to a new you.Well written and humorous with just the right dose of tough love when needed.I read it often for a quick "pick me up" and for ongoing inspiration.HIGHLY recommended. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars comprehensive beginners book
I got this out of the library, and am thinking of buying it for keeps. It gives a good comprehensive overview of fitness walking, what you need to get started and progress to an advanced walker. 3-0 out of 5 stars Good, and with just a little tweaking could be even better
I think keeping a log of your daily exercise & food intake can be very beneficial; putting it all down on paper and reviewing it periodically motivates me to stay the course in my goal of leading a healthier lifestyle and also lets me see what areas I need to work on improving. However, this book really needs bigger spaces to write in, especially the meals sections, which seem tiny and cramped.I'd also prefer it if it was set up to check off your daily intake of fruits, vegetables, multi-grains, etc the way it is to monitor water consumption.I do enjoy the inspiring daily "words to live by", and as a cancer survivor who finds something positive in each new day, I really like the space to write in "a beautiful thing" everyday. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
This book helped me get back on track after many years of gaining weight and being inactive. I love the simple language the author uses when he explains how to get in shape and loose weight. The book made me re-think how I feel about hunger and I found the eating plan was very easy to follow without having to change too much too fast. The walking exercise was very easy to follow and I began to see results in the first week. Finally, an exercise book for normal people! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars BaGua, easy to recognise hard to explain...
The title says: "walking meditation" and you think that you are going to find a lot of information of theory around the art of BaGua... but I got really disappointed. There is some information about the philosophy of BaGua but non that you cant get from a simple introduction to Daoism, and the physical aspect well "in this position your back is open as Yang and your chest is closed as Yin..." even a beginner can see that. 5-0 out of 5 stars An Intelligent book on meditative Pakua
This may be one of Paul Crompton's best books. He writes about themeditative and health aspects from a perspective of many years ofexperience in martial arts. The book is well researched and contains somediagrams which appear to have come from his friends book published in thelate eighties. Unfortunately the nuances of the physical conditioning andcerebral pulse work will only be grasped by those who really spend a lot oftime circle walking. 3-0 out of 5 stars Not as impressive as I was hoping...
The title says it all... this book is primarily about the meditative aspects of BaGuaZhang and touches only briefly on the martial aspects.I found his explanations of the history of BaGua very interesting, but hisattempted explanations of the health benefits of BaGua to be somewhatsuspect. For example, many other sources have somehow tried to tie in theeffects of cerebrospinal fluid to sexual and physical health, mostly withunsuccessful results... I think his viewpoints on craniosacral therapy isno different.Certainly craniosacral therapy has not reached mainstreamapproval in the medical community.BaGuaZhang was initially created to bea very effective martial art, and has been likened to a "graduateschool course" for people who have already reached proficiency inanother external or internal martial art.None of this really comesthrough in Paul Crompton's book. His tone reminds me of many T'ai Chi booksthat concentrate on chakras, relaxation, and "being one with theuniverse", but completely gloss over the fact that T'ai Chi wasinitially created as a method of self-defense (and a very effective one, atthat!)I much preferred Park Bok Nam's series over this one, which gavebasic training tips, good diagrams for moves, and had excellent tips forpower generation and stance stability.Keep it in mind if you areinterested in broadening your horizons on the esoterics of BaGua, but thinktwice about buying it if you are looking for books that aid withsignificant real-life principles and applications of this martial art... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Walking My Own Mother Home
I cannot tell you how much this book has helped me.My own mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's four months ago. It's almost eerie how some of the author's own experiences mirror mine as well.I gave the book to my sister and brother who are with me "waking mother home."My sister read it all the first night I gave it to her.She cried through most of it, but it helped her and us so much.Thank you, Rita Bresnahan!

5-0 out of 5 stars Gifts received in the Midst of Pain
Walking One Another Home is a book not only for people dealing with Alzheimers in their family, but for everyone who has to walk a loved one home.Rita's openness in sharing her feelings on this pilgrimage, are not only touching but so very honest. It is in sharing her frustrations, and consequent revelations gained, that the author helps the reader learn how to let go of past and be present and aware of the gifts offered, often unknowingly, by their loved one. This book is a must for those who are caring for dying loved ones, for those whose loved ones have already passed and are struggling to make sense out of their loss, and for all of us whose parents are aging and soon will find ourselves walking this journey. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars good for performance oriented walkers
This book is excellent for those who want to either walk for exercise or want to walk for sport (i. e., races). There are many excellent photos which describe proper walking technique and common technique errors.3-0 out of 5 stars Terse yet padded
This book is informative but confused in its focus. It purports to be for those who want to walk fast but not race, but spends almost half its pages on training techniques (and endless charts for you to fill in) best suitedfor racers. Its descriptions of stride and gait are clearest if you haveread other books already and understand the concepts. It is best used tosupplement a trainer and not as a stand-alone guide. If you want to learnthe basics, start somewhere else. That being said, what it does do, it doeswell. If you have learned the basics of walking and want a workout and notjust a walk, this is the book for you.If you want to improve your walkingendurance or speed, this book will help.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book from the basics to the advanced.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heavyhands Walking Book
If the system of Heavyhands Walking every caught on properly in this country gyms would be put out of business except for socializing and training where true expert assistance is required.
5-0 out of 5 stars Declan is INCORRECT
"Reviewer" Declan Hayes might wish to regroup, and, start over. I've been heavyhander since book#1. The heavyhands equipment isn't intended to be "pretty", it is VASTLY more efficient by obviating "gripping" throughout cycle. Proof is in the pudding. Since heavyhands, I'm JUST as ripped as previous Cybex gym visits: total daily time investment is 30 minutes. Now, THAT's efficent. AS with ANY exercise , DOING it counts; correct FORM doesn't hurt.

1-0 out of 5 stars mini cottage industry
I would like to give this book and his bells one star between them. The dumb bells are pretty but are no improvement on ordinary dumb bells or on special dumb bells with grips. They are just more expensive, and prettier.

4-0 out of 5 stars Upbeat and fun
This was a very upbeat and relaxing workout.I like to end my day this way with a walk and time to myself. The music is upbeat with an easy to follow rythm. You are told when you are halfway through the walk, so you know when to go back.Rita Moreno reminds you about posture and pacing and times a pulse count about halfway through. It was just perfect for me.

4-0 out of 5 stars great tape
I was impressed with this tape. Rita Moreno chimes in with tips and encouragement from time to time, but never often enough to be annoying. The music is forgettable, but that's exactly what I want in a workout - I've noticed that in workouts that use popular music, within a week or so I can't hear the song on the radio without thinking of the workout moves that go along with it, and the song is ruined forever. The music is just enough background to provide the proper beat without interfering with my thoughts. The beginner's side is a bit slow, which would definitely be beneficial to a beginner intimidated by more strenuous exercises. The intermediate side could last for a long time if extra movements are incorporated as it becomes too easy (more vigorous arm swings, larger steps, etc.) It is almost fast enough for an easy jog. 4-0 out of 5 stars Get Moving
This tape has been a God sent to me. The songs are not popular hits butthey still are up beat and somewhat relaxing. It really can makes your mindclear. The pace of walking is great and can be made as fast as you wouldlike. The woman who talks though out the tape also says something rightwhen I need it some encouragement. And the walk does last 30 minutes. Ifound this to be very good and keeps you on track. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource for Walkers
This book is a great place to obtain walking workout knowledge for the beginning walker, or the advanced/experienced athlete who would like to add walking to their routine. It dispells many of the myths surrounding the jogging-vs-walking debate (i.e. which is better foryou) and provides ample research showing the amazing benefits of walking.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Treadmill Walking Too
Although the author promotes outdoor walking more than inside treadmill workouts, I find that the book is perfect for use with the treadmill. There are beginning programs all the way up to athletic ones, and you can start with the one that suits you and include any others that you want by customizing your own workouts.Actually, my treadmill calculates the miles, distance, pace, etc., making it really easy to follow the programs. The book is very thorough and covers a lot of useful information regarding walking as a regular routine. This is a must-have for anyone considering walking - rather it be for health or fitness.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great guide for beginners

4-0 out of 5 stars Great plan to shape up
The book is great, and I have been following it's simple advice, and I am quickly having walking as part of my daily routine, no matter how short or long.It is a little dated, however (1991).They recommend you carry a quarter for the phone in case of emergencies.(ha-ha).I am enjoying the book.

3-0 out of 5 stars For A Trim and Happy Personna.
This is a three-month day-to-day guide to help you lose weight (or you could try the South Beach diet, only this is healthier), strengthen and tone your muscles, be healtheir and stronger, and add years to your life as a consequence.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Fitness Book in the History of Time
This book outlines a very readable, very achievable program that is easy to follow, and yet feels challenging enough to feel effective. It begins assuming you have never tried an exercise program before, and that approach is helpful and always boosts self-esteem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Hiker's Companion!
This book is a great value to carry, good size and easy to pack along. In addition to the usual info about equipment, safety, and best places, I really appreciated the tips on such things as breaking in boots, going with children, picking a campsite, and "Can I Carry All That?" (title of one section)!Read more
