1-0 out of 5 stars Not that good.
Do NOT buy this book.If you buy it, please buy my used one listed in Amazon Used Books. Pardon me for my english in my writing. It is second language for me.5-0 out of 5 stars The Ironman Triathlon World Championships Desk Reference
If you know who Bob Babbitt is, you don't need any other reason to purchase his book.In that case, I will assure you that it is everything you could possibly expect from the editor of Competitor Magazine and then some.As you read the captions and relive the moments in each year's race summary, you can't help but smile with gleeful anticipation of your next trip to the finish line.If you have difficulty explaining your compulsive addiction to your family and friends, this book will help bridge the gap.The pictures are stunning not only in their completeness but also in the quality with which they have been reproduced. You might remember the scene from a videotape or broadcast or maybe you were even lucky enough to see it live. But never have you seen the athletes leap from such glossy pages with the detail and ferocity that they do from Babbitt's creation.5-0 out of 5 stars The Go To Book
Forget about the coffee table,t his book is one you should keep by your bed side and dream of the Ironman.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Belongs on the coffee table...
The best *looking*, but far from best, book I've found on triathlons. Its heavy, glossy pages with full-color photos make it very appealing on the surface, but sadly it lacks any depth. It offers cursory explanations of various aspects of the sport, and sprinkles in a little bit of good advice here and there, but that's about it as far as content goes.It fails to include some crucial aspects of training - such as weight training - completely!
5-0 out of 5 stars Insider tips are most helpful
This textbook has been edited concisely and is loaded with excellent drawings and pictures which illustrate most of the points the author wants to get across.Though the book is not all encompassing, it has numerous pearls of wisdom that only a personal discussion with a world class triathelete could come close to matching (and even then it would not be quite as productive). Many times reading this textbook I got the feeling that the author was sitting next to me and giving me practical tips which I have now applied and have improved my times dramatically. It would take a lifetime to accumulate the experience that Michael Finch presents in a concise, clear format.I would most highly reccomend this book at all levels, but particularly in your first two to three years of triathalons.

2-0 out of 5 stars The Children's Big Picture Book of Triathlon
This is too basic to be helpful. The author admits taking most of the training plans published from popular web sites where they are published. It spends sentences describing what other books spend chapters on.I recommend Triathlon 101 for beginners/intermediates and The Triathlete's Training Bible for experts/intermediates.Great pictures though (reason I gave it two stars instead of only one)?!? ... 5-0 out of 5 stars All you need to know to "complete a triathlon!"
For both the novice and the experienced, this book offers triathletes all they need to know to finish the race ahead of the pack. There's detailed information on how to rate yourself physically in swimming, bicycling, and running and refine your skills at each; how to improve fitness for peak performance; develop a training program; keep a training log; cope with hazards and avoid injury; select the right apparel and equipment; eat properly in training and during the race; and condition the "mental muscle" as well as your heart--There is a great section on training using your heart rate monitor that is particularly informing for those just getting started with a heart rate monitor--all in all, I thought it was very complete, precise and to the point--Lots of good tips and helpful information for the Newbie and more experienced.I keep it handy for referencing and recommend it to those who are new to the sport or looking for ways to improve.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference and motivation inside
I became hooked on this book when I did my first Triathlon last autumn.I felt it gave me the information I needed and the upbeat way it was presented just added to my excitement.I can tell that the author is completely in love with triathlon and wants to see others have the same kind of fun she does.I keep this book handy and have referred to it several times this spring as I train for the three tri's I plan to do this summer. The book is my main triathlon reference and I very much recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Overview of the basics to get you into Triathlons!
As a newby to the sport it was nice to read a book that gave me an overview of what I could expect.I had only done 2 races when I read this book and it really helped me understand what I was doing right and wrong. If you want an overview of the sport and are planning to do your first race this is a MUST BUY!!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Outstanding Book!!
A fantastic book and on the "top two" of my recommended reading list for beginning triathletes. If you are going for detail and want in-depth and technical information on how to develop a training plan, go with the Triathlete's Training Bible. If you want a solid overview of the sport of triathlon, this is the book for you.3-0 out of 5 stars An Average Overview of Triathlons
This was the 1st triathlon book I bought. It gives an overview of the equipment, types of training in chapters on swimming, running and riding, time requirments, nutrition and sample training plans. 4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, few problems.
I found this book to be fairly helpful. I especially liked the descriptions of form drills for all 3 disciplines. The informaiton was useful. What I did not like is that since I am new to the sport of triathlon, there were phrases used that I did not understand. This was most evident in the workouts. The text would describe everything well, but then in a listing of a sample workout it would use terms not explained in the text. This made it hard to figure out what to do sometimes. Also the author says he'll show you how to have many peaks in a season, but then really doesn't ever give that information. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Wish I could rate it zero stars
I can't believe anybody likes this piece of crap. It's too small, the photographs are amateurish, the pithy little inspirational sayings are pedantic, the diet and exercise advice is useless to anyone other than a total novice and the format is horrible. Worst money I ever spent. After I got it I threw it away and made a better workout log using Microsoft Works.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lift Log: Diary and Guide for Strength Training
I have used this same journal for five years now - this will bemy fourth copy, and my first time to order it from ...(the website). I have found it very helpful in keeping track of my regimen and my progress. It has a very simple format and is small enough to be inconspicuous in the weight room. There is ample room for notes. The format is not too restricting, which allows flexibility with what I am doing - not conforming me to what the journal expects of me. I like this feature a lot. The pictures in the book are motivating, but I largely ignore them. I know my own goals and the book helps me move towards those. I would highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a simple way of keeping track of strength and body building progress.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lift Log:Diary and Guide for Strength Training
I think this is an excellent book to carryaround the gym as you work out.It has a bit of warm-up and stretching exercises, nutrition, anatomy, and basic suggestions for organizing workouts, and how to use the book. There are also worksheetsfor body measurements and progressions.Thediary itself is set up very simply to allow you to keep track in your ownway. The only negative thing that I can see is the pictures of the women-- they are more like "cheesecake" than actual bodybuilders.Ican't believe that anyone could lift weights in a thong! ... I loved the first edition because it mentioned one of the early competitors training for the iron man while living out his van and training himself and others at a health club. This was an inspiratiion to me as an ex-marine/student who lived in his van while attending college and working out/showering in the gym.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, The Best Book On Swimming For Triathletes I have Read
Like many people, I was skeptical about this book. How could I truly learn to swim better from reading a book. But after reading this and practising the techniques I am a believer. I am a triathlete, albeit a 50 year old slow triathlete. But I began as a swimmer, so I am very comfortable there. I am not fast, but love the water. But this book has made me a better swimmer. It's in the economy of stroke. This book will teach you a way of swimming that's more like yoga or TM than those swimmers you see flailing their arms and being out of breath. This won't happen overnight, but as the author says, if you practise at this long enough you will get better.

5-0 out of 5 stars The definitive book on triathlon swimming
This is the best book you can buy on swimming. Period. In fact, most triathlon training books refer the reader to Terry Laughlins Total Immersion (TI) program, which is explained most clearly in this book. (Don't buy the out-dated book entitled "Total Immersion." I've read it; it's good; but it doesn't fully reflect the author's most recent ideas on swimming drills.)Read more

A very comprehensive manual for triathlon with contributions from well qualified and respected authors in their specialised fields.Full of practical information and examples.Generally following very sound principles, but some of this information is out of date. The training intensity guidelines and methods for determining them are out of date. The author now currently advocates a different method to determine this.Good for the overall structure of training and periodisation, but be careful, the heart-rate guidelines may be too high. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Your Performing Edge
Your Performing Edge is quite simply the best book i have ever read on the subject of improving mental performance. I am a keen amateur golfer with a 4 handicap and a great natural athelete. Like everyone, i was searching for that "miracle" to help me break through the next barrier - my mind. I have read and studied a number of other books and programs about improving mental performance. While many gave you the answers to "what" you need to do, none gave you the answers to "how" to improve. Dr. JoAnn Dalkoetters insights, lessons and tips are the most valuable resource ever produced on the subject. Combine this book with her Personal Coaching Program and you have, what i consider to be, the most powerful program available. I am now playing the golf i have always dreamed of. Your Performing Edge is a must read for anyone seriously considering improving their mental approach to atheletics, life, business or otherwise.

As a competitive distance runner for the last 25 years, I've focused mainly on the physical aspects of training. Then I came across Dr. Dahlkoetter's book on the mental aspects of training and living. After reading it, I have nothing but praise for this book. It provided a whole new stimulus for my training and life. Helpful mental training exercises are provided along with straight forward information and interviews with champion athletes. I highly recommend this book for everyone, athlete or not. ... Read more
