5-0 out of 5 stars A user-friendly guide to using Qigong
Now in a revised second edition, Back Pain Relief is a user-friendly guide to using Qigong, an alternative medicinal treatments originating in China, to help with chronic back pain. Definitions, diagrams, Qigong exercises and philosophy explained in-depth, and much more fill this practical guide. Author Yang, Jwing-Ming Ph.D. is a skilled martial arts and Qigong teacher of over thirty-five years' experience, and his wisdom shows through in plain terms readily accessible to the lay reader. Back Pain Relief is very highly recommended reading, especially for anyone who has run up against the limits of traditional Western medicine in an attempt to cope with recurring back pain.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best So Far
Taiji Qigong by Chris Jarmey is a genuine breakthrough is literary excellence on the subject of Qigong. The clarity of the text is outstanding, whilst the content enables one to fully understand at a cerebral level what qigong is all about. The book then gives precise instructions on how to do Taiji Qigong, with emphasis on exactly what your mind should be doing throughout. In my opinion, this book should go straight to the front of the intelligent person's bookshelf.

5-0 out of 5 stars Taiji Qigong
As a practitioner of daoist meditation and qigong, I found this book by far the most well laid out and comprehensive text on the subject. Not so complex as to lose the reader, but a perfect balance between practical advice and theoretical background. Great stuff. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
Very straighforward. This is the first practical book that I've read (and I've read quite a few) that doesn't imbed the useful with the arcane.

2-0 out of 5 stars Reading & Reading books not for Chi kung
The only way to learn tai ji quan is being with a master, looking him doing the form. Doing all the parts that conform tai ji included chi kung but with a teacher cause is the best option to feel the art. I think reading books are not the solution so the best is empty your mind of reading and reading and do the task with someone who knows something about it, not necessary a master, all we can learn with others...

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad starting point for beginners...
I disagree with the assessment made by 'Carlos'.I would not rate this book as among the top Chi Gong books but it is sufficiently detailed to give you an idea of Chi Gong and how to breath, perform the exercises, etc. There is little that is 'cultish' about this book.In fact, Mr. Wong de-emphasizes any spiritual aspects of Chi Gong and invites the reader to appreciate the physical benefits of Chi Gong. That said, it is still best to learn and practice Chi Gong with a qualified instructor and in a group. My experience has been that the instructor's energy aids tremendously in advancing the student in this practice. It is interesting to read about Chi Gong, good to practice it and better to have guidance from a teacher in person. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, better than physical therapy for me!
I love this book. When I had neck problems, I went to physical therapy which helped me some. Then I started doing these qigong exercises daily and they helped me so much more than physical therapy and were much more fun.I made them a part of my dayand enjoy the easy workout.I can always tell when I do them which muscles are tight, where I might be stiff and sore that day.Doing them makes every day start off a little nicer.Michael's pictures and explanations make sense, you have to give each one time to sink in but they give all the information you need to do them correctly, unlike other qigong books. The more difficult moves have multiple pictures so you really get the idea.I find that if I do all of the exercises in the order he presents them, it is a thorough stretch for each muscle group and by the time I am done, I feel energetic and ready for my day.It doesn't matter how fit or unfit you are, you can do these and benefit from them. As a result of doing these daily for over five years now, I almost never have a sore neck and recently have added Tai Chi to my regimen too, thanks to this book as my start into Chinese Martial Arts.I am so happy I found it, the best one I have seen yet!Five stars for sure. My 80 year old mother uses my book so much I am getting her a copy so I can get mine back, and am giving each of my siblings a copy so they can feel great too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful
As a complete beginner to Qigong, I find this an invaluable guide for my daily practice. Michael writes a comprehensive, but not overly lengthy history and analysis of Qigong, then explains with excellent photos andtext how to perform each exercise. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars excellent beginner instruction
This video is excellent for beginners in that the instructor is very clear about the movements and also uses two "students"from a rear view,in order to better ,still, understand the postures.1-0 out of 5 stars A Major Disappointment
This book is mis-leading.In describing Tai Chi movements the pictures disagree with the written text..."foot directly below the shoulder" and it isn't in the photograph. There are more suchdiscrepancies. The analogies may be common to the writer but confusing tothis reader..."sand pouring down your leg".There is a large andgrowing number of Tai Chi manuals. It's too bad publications like thissound so good and read so poorly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very clear, easy to follow.

I've met and studied with the author, Wen Mei Yu, and she is the real thing. We are lucky to have this book, especially in English. She teaches here in Los Angeles and also does healing work for cancer patients at UCLA.

3-0 out of 5 stars Have A Gander II
As I said before, Master Michael Tse was planning to come out with his own version of the 1st 64 movements. It's here folks, so forget about this title. Contact the Tse Qigong Centre online for ordering info. Michael lists Grandmaster Yang Meijun's approved instructors for North America and this guy is not one of them.

3-0 out of 5 stars Have A Gander
Not a bad book for beginners, but an even better one covering the 1st 64 movements of the Wild Goose system is Wen Mei Yu's "Chi Kung: Taoist Secrets of Fitness and Longevity." Rumour has it that Master MichaelTse is coming out with his own "Grandmaster Yang Meijun approved"version of the 1st 64 movements as well. Stay tuned. If you don't have acertified teacher nearby, in addition to a book you'll need Wen Mei Yu's 3videos. Excellent production, lighting, English voice-over and quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW, This is what I have been looking for!
This is the best Qigong form out there. You are a the one, you are infinite love. Practice Sheng Zhen to acheive heaven on earth. With forms inspiried by Kuan Yin, Jesus, Mohammed, and Lao Tzu, you realize heaven on earth, and one day, maybe we will all realize. Infinite stars. Infinite love. Infinite truth. I trust Li Jun Feng to show the way, so we can all "return to oneness" in every dimension. Physical and mental. Scientific and spiritual, this is supreme science. This is the Secret Teachings of All Ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars Return to Oneness
The book is written by the originator of this particular style of qigong, Master Li Jun Feng, and is the authoritative guide for any practitioner of Sheng Zhen Wuji Yuan Gong. It contains some background material, but is basically a 'how-to' book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good and simple, one view on Qigong...
Unlike other books on Qigong, this one does not strive to provide scientific validation for Qigong, nor is it filled with scholarly references and parallelisms with other systems of excercise a/o health and healing. Neither is it a vast array of different Qigong practices presented as a catalog for the reader to pick and choose from.5-0 out of 5 stars Best treatment of subject yet
I am typically leery of books on the subject, but this is one book I highly recommend. Alton's treatment is comprehensive and surprisingly frank and impartial. Rather than deride Western science and praise the virtues ofChinese medicine, he takes an honest, open-minded view of both and appliescold logic to arrive at conclusions. In other words, he does not insult thereader's intelligence. The stress of the book is more on the exposition ofthe theory, rather than a how-to manual. Persons interested in taichi andqigong will find this book very informative, while practitioners will findit inspiring and enriching. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Genuinely Valuable Addition to the Qigong Literature
There are a lot of books that have been written by folk with little practical experience of qigong or knowledge of the fact that it is a comprehensive way of leading your life, rather than just a set of breathing exercises and meditations.
5-0 out of 5 stars A true gem waiting to be discovered.
If you've stumbled across this book while doing a search, consider it no accident. As there is apparently no big marketing push to thrust this book upon you, it seems to simply be awaiting one's readiness to receive it before making itself known. In "Beautiful Heart, Beautiful Spirit" Katherine Orr has distilled the basic principles of a modern master's teachings of Wudang Qigong and conveyed them with lucid simplicity. I found something very fresh and sincere being communicated here - there was no sprinkling of over-used quotes and aphorisms of past sages;Orr's communication of Master Qing Chuan Wang's teachings stands on its own and flowed seamlessly. She covered a lot of ground, weaving a story of Wudang Qigong - a bit of its historical roots in China as it relates to this master's lifework, its philosophical principles, its scientific and medical aspects, its powerful potential to heal and transform, as well as the practical aspects of how to get started incorporating it into one's life.
