5-0 out of 5 stars Teaches the Real philosphical basis and preparatory exercise
This is an unusual text by a true master. Written in astraightforward manner it gets to the heart of the philosophy and meaning of Tai Chi Kung. It also the only text I know of which details numerous preparatory exerices to develop the proper stretch, strength and internal muscle development to accomplish the goals of Tai Chi Kung.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buddhist masquerading as a Daoist
As pointed out by another reviewer, what we have here is some one who trained as a Buddhist for many years, trying to pass himself off as a daoist. These two traditions have very different methods of training, having been trained in one tradition does not make one qualified to speak on the other tradtion. Reading or translating a book of daoist practice does not make one an expert on daoist practice or qualifed to teach these arts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just remarquable!!
The Author gives you through the 8 exercices a simple efficient internal work on energy . this book is a must.1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Have a Clue
The author obviously doesn't have a clue what Taoism actually is.Look at the book's own description - it claims that he has studied with numerous Taoist masters and then goes on to list as examples a collection of Buddhists and martial artists. Not a single Taoist makes the list.If you want to read about Taoism, try a book written by someone, anyone, who actually knows what it is! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of time
I bought this book because I thought it was going to present the effect the Shaolin Temples had on the development of Asian martial arts. Much to my chagrin, the book did nothing of the kind.
4-0 out of 5 stars Perspectives worth considering
While not an easy or fast read, the material was researched and appeared thorough. The "Spiritual Legacy" presents an amalgam of centuries of philosophical thought and is well worth the time to read and digest.Concise summarization with the filter of experience makes this short book a window to a wider world.

3-0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt, but misleading
Three stars does not mean I disliked the book. I thought it was okay. Let me start with the GOOD, as I believe the good is more important than the bad. I would recommend this book to a few people I know, but not to most of them, much less "everyone".

5-0 out of 5 stars great book
this is a great book, the author truly knows the subject matter well. I recommend this to anyone interested in getting the most out of walking for fitness.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Inspirtational & Practical Guide to Fitness & Longevity
The Way of Walking is both an inspiratual and a practical guide to physical fitness and longevity. The book articulates the mind/body connection to health and well-being in a way that really motivates me to be serious about this walking program. The information is easy to relate to and absorb. In fact, reading this book is almost like having Dr. Moramarco there with you, helping you to get it right. The demonstration photos are also quite helpful. The Way of Walking describes a system that can work for the novice to the most fit and everyone in between (like me!). You don't need special clothes or equipment. You are not limited by age or physical condition. Having followed this program for just a few months, I feel better than I have in a long time: my legs are stronger, my endurance greater and I'm more optimistic. I'm grateful to Dr. Moramarco for sharing his knowledge and insight in The Way of Walking.I feel this system will be the backbone of my own life-long physical fitness program.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book on the best exercise!
This isdefinately the best book on the subject of walking.Author MoraMarco explains a simple strategy for maintaining health and gives several examples of various styles of walking. Also included are sample programs and resources to look up.I often stress to my patients that walking 20 minutes a day is the best exercise. It circulates the blood, helps burn calories, and can help keep you young.Buy the book as a gift for a loved one.It will definately let them know you care! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Bounce or Uprooting
Bouncing or uprooting the person is not mystical.First, relax and create a feeling of sinking into the earth.Connectedness with the earth is the fundamental principle to the bounce. The feet are integrated with the earth.Gravity is pulling body mass towards the earth. The legs and feet are supporting the body from falling. The knees are slightly bent and have a rubbery characteristic.External force is perceived and directed from the center through the legs, to the feet; and a counter-force is generated.Just like a bumper car hitting the edge of the pit, the reflected force is compressed by the legs and reflected back through the body into the opponent. So minimal external force is amplified and reflected back into the opponent with maximum effects. The hands or body propel the opponent back as the reflected force exceeds the force of gravity holding the opponent down. The hands or upper body are the transmitted force generated from the legs4-0 out of 5 stars Insights into the nature of Tai Chi practice
Ron Sieh delivers some very strong insights into the mental nature of the internal boxing arts.He wants to make it clear that the relationships and emotional states inherent in conflict are of the utmost importance.Heasks one to reflect on the direct sensations of being alive and aware, recognizing that direct awareness is the source of speed and efficiency inboxing.Without obscuring his advice with extraneous lecture, Ron insiststhat a boxer dig deep and study hard to earn the high level of bodyawareness that we seek to achieve, and thus fulfill all the potentialinherent in the subtle boxing arts.An excellent primer. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners
This is a good book for beginners and for those who know nothing about Chi Gong.My only criticism and why I gave this book three stars is that the illustrations are not comprehensive at all.It was frustrating for me to figure out the moves by reading the text.Granted, it is far better to learn Chi Gong with an instructor but Mr. Garripoli would have done his readers a service by providing more and better illustrations of the moves.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Qigong Primer
I have been a self-taught student of Qigong for the past five years and have assembled a modest library on the subject. This book is one of the best I have read on healing Qigong. Garripoli has excised the dogmaticismfound in similar books byemphasizing imagination and intent; to trustwhat you feel and not rely completely on the formof the exercises.Hehas made this esoteric knowledge comprehensible and palatable for thereading public. When our Western culture ultimately and whole-heartidlyembrace Qigong, this book will be recognized as one of it's primers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Completely absorbing, with a balanced view of Qigong
Coming from a lineage of kung fu masters from southern China, I was extremely pleased to read Mr. Garripoli's book on Qigong. It is one of those rare, thoughtful, life-enhancing books that shares the true essenceof this ancient Chinese healing practice, and is so respectful of itsroots. The fact that he gives an opportunity for a variety of voices to beheard from the globalcommunity is absolutely indicative of the many formsand styles that exist around the world, and perhaps shows too that Qigong,in all its hundreds of styles, is catching on as its health benefits becomemore obvious. It is also refreshing to read a Qigong book that isn'tsensationalist or exploitive, but more balanced and far-reaching in itscontent, as well as its intent.I highly recommend this book to anyoneinvolved in the healing arts, and applaud Garripoli for shedding light onthis little known martial and healing art.The book also provides somevery helpful resources and references at the back, for those wishing tocontact a Qigong organization near them. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The best is always hard to obtain
If you are a Taoist Qigong fan, then this is the book for you. No mumbo-jumbo. A practical "how-to" step-by-step Chi Kung for beginners and mature students. Dont have to know obscure Chinese cultural meanings; just start the work and keep at it. The real pity is that I had to acquire this book used as it is out of print. It's ironic that there is so many useless and shallow books on Qigong out there that never, ever go "out of print" and yet the really good ones do. The sooner this series by Yu Cheng Huang is reprinted and made available, the better !!

5-0 out of 5 stars Most Excellent!
"Change the Picture" is the first in the series of Qigong workbooks presented by Master Yu-Cheng Huang. This book gives a step by step system of building a Qigong practice. The book is comprised of levels I and II with each volume containing twelve weekly lessons which are the basic foundations of Xuan Ming Dao Qigong. Each lesson builds on the previous week's lesson andcontains a section on theory, method, and practice.Levels I and II teach one how to cleanse, gather, and activate the energy (QI) and how to tonify the body.5-0 out of 5 stars Change the Picture (Xuan ming Dao Qigong Workbook
This is a great book for anyone who is new to the practice of qigong.Yu Cheng Huang has developed a great system of teaching qigong in this book. I've seen many books on the subject and none of them takes you by the handand easily leads youthrough the different exercises as this book does. The book is designed to teach you a lesson each week.In addition to thephysical exercise each lesson comes with a discussion on either thetheory/history of qigong, a lesson on the use of food and herbs or a lessonon TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) making it a very balanced approach tothe subject.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Qi Energy for Health and Healing
As a retiree on a teacher's pension, I am always alert to ways to maintain my health, and this is one of the best so far.5-0 out of 5 stars Intelligent and Irresistible
Let me say first that the tone of the book is irresistible. It is written for an intelligent audience (actually, I have the feeling Dr.Fromm wrote with intelligent women in mind) and the style is insightful and humorous. He presents a large amount of useful information in a very engaging way. The book covers all aspects of life--sex, reproduction, birth, development, and aging--and concludes with a moving meditation on death. The case histories presented together with the information (for example, dealing with emotional trauma, pre-natal child care, caretaking the elderly, etc.)are themselves fascinating, and kept me turning the pages to learn more. I might also add that the book is very well-produced, and the numerous illustrations give the anatomically-illiterate reader like myself a sure understanding of what-where-how to do the exercises to promote health in oneself and in others. I believe that the curious and intelligent reader will enjoy and benefit from this book, and so I urge people to read it. ... Read more
