5-0 out of 5 stars Ki is a natural valuable tool to healing
I read this book and was able to utilize the techniques to generate Ki.It was amazing to see what a positive impact this energy can have on the body.I have experienced the healing power of this myself and have seen it work on others who I have Ki-ed.Anyone who is open to exploring alternative strategies to health can benefit from reading this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Silly
The book starts with a sad story of how sick the author was until he found a Ki master who turned his life around. This seems to be a standard story in these types of books. Fromm them follows this with a variety of odd exercises and techniques which don't work. Even if you believe that this stuff works the idea that you would just buy this rather slim book and then be able to heal yourself and others is ridiculous. I don't know why the other reviewers rated this book so highly unless they have something to lose by telling the truth.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Book of (Rei)ki
This is a very enjoyable book; it's weird the author expounded on the subject for xxx pages without mentioning Reiki, which is what his doctor was practicing.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A lot of information in a small book
This work is a brief text written by Chen Wei-Ming, a tai chi master in the early twentieth century. It is in a question and answer format, and was written with the purpose of responding to common difficulties that students were having with the form. Chen covers a variety of topics, ranging from the history of tai chi, to the form, to combat applications. The answers are usually fairly short, but the translation is good, and this book contains much useful information. I would recommend this book for anyone interested in an old master's thoughts on Yang style tai chi chuan.

5-0 out of 5 stars The real treasure
It is incredible how in only 60 pages you get the most of answers you were looking for about Tai Chi.There is matter enough in this book to write at the least 5 books. Anyway this is not a book for beginner or not Tai Chi practitioners. You can get the most from this book only if you are an experienced Tai Chi student. The best chapters in my opinion are the ones dedicated to pushing hands exercise and real fighting. If you have approached Tai chi from years of study on a hard stile, the answers could also sound trivial but at the least they will reinforce your intuitions on Tai Chi. On the other hand if you don't have experience on fighting this book clarify you on the item.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
I found this an excellent book.
5-0 out of 5 stars greatform of Qigong
This is one of the best qigong exercises there are, certainly the best exercise there is for the back, hips and neck and the abdomen, and because it massages all the meridians, it is excellent for all the internal organs. Combined in a regimen with other forms of qigong, it has a profoundly beneficial affect on the health. In addition to this one, you would benefit by looking at the books by Master Lam Kam Chuen, especially The Way Of Energy, and the very excellent encyclopedic book, Qigong Empowerment by Master Shou-Yu Liang & Wen-Ching Wu. Swimming Dragon is a very enjoyable flowing form that is not difficult to learn. And although not the same, it is akin to another profoundly envigorating moving form called Chan Mi Gong. There is a book called Chan Mi Gong by Liu Han Wen.

I have reached a point where I'll buy anything David Twicken puts out.His works are a valuable part of my library, and this one is no exception.I always learn something. Thanks David!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Brilliant !
This is the first book I have ever met which deals equally well with the three-pronged approach to Chinese esoteric knowledge - Feng Shui, Chinese Astrology and Chinese Spiritual Alchemy ( in fact, this is a reflection of classical Jing-Qi-Shen, Body-Energy-Spirit integral method ). I strongly recommend it to any devoted practitioner of Spiritual Alchemy, especially the Spiritual Qi Gong chapters which give details about highest levels of practices such as Kan/Li, etc. And, most important, the teachings are targeted to integration of one's immortal True Self in everyday life. This is the greatest - and simplest - secret of the Golden Flower.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very detailed
Very detailed discussion of tai chi concepts, linking the techniques explicitly to the 8 trigrams, the five activities and five elements. The book is chock full of diagrams and illustrations that show these relationships, which makes it good as a reference, as you'll find few other books that lay it all out like this one does. Also discussions and presentations of the pre-heaven 16-movement form for both yin and yang parts, and the 64 move post-heaven form, the 8 hands, and the 8 stances as well. There's a huge amount of detail here also, which is bound to make it a little intimidating to some people, but overall a very detailed book although perhaps more than most people will want to wade through to gain an understanding of these concepts, since most tai chi practitioners are probably more interested in practical applications rather than an advanced knowledge of taoist theory. But at least some knowledge of that is necessary to become a truly advanced practitioner, and this book serves very well in that regard.
4-0 out of 5 stars Almost a home run
This book is difficult to review because if you are like me you love it when technical manuals of this kind are presented. This is a great effort and as always Mr. Olson does a great job, but I think it would have been a home run if the focus was kept tighter. I think this should have been 2 books and each might have been made even more to the point in clarity. It will be in my library though along with a simpler? version by Da Lui. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars More than meets the eye...
At first look this book might just seem like lots of Mantak Chia's books have been condensed into just one volume. That's not bad at all: despite all the material from Chia there has never been a good structured approach learning it by yourself. This book is *the* Guide to help you through the early training: the exercises are described well, the illustrations are better than in most of Chia's books and new things are gradually and methodologically introduced to the student. Sometimes I missed more detailed explanation on the theory (that's why I only gave 4 stars) but this book takes the practical approach: you learn by doing.5-0 out of 5 stars 100 Days to Better Health, Good Sex & Long Life: A Guide to

5-0 out of 5 stars A True Master
Having trained with Master Ou myself, I can attest to the fact that he is a very high level qigong master. He has cured many of diseases, has body-sensing ability, and can do long-distance healing across thousands of miles.Though this qigong is simple in form, the results are much better if you learn from Master Ou or one of his instructors in person. This is because they actually send you qi during the training to speed your progress. This book makes a great companion to learning the form in person, though I would not use it alone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Send me money now for my Secret Qigong !
This is a pretty awful book for any person who either casually or seriously wants to persue fitness, health or even the spiritual aspects of Taiji or Qigong. I'ts the best example of "snake oil" I have seen in a long time. There are other examples of course. The more people become aware of Qigong, the more the "Do-it-yourself Masters" get out there and publish their "Own Family Secret Qigong". Maybe I should do that too. No prior knowledge of Taiji or Qigong required. This book is a good example of this and is a complete waste of time following the practice and spending the money. Yoga, Pilates, Taiji will do the trick.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Valuable Guide
I agree with the two most recent reviewers....this is an excellent book for those wishing to learn this ancient and powerful Qi Gong method. I learned the form 8 years ago from a Chinese master in Vancouver, B.C., and have searched for more information since. This book provides comprehensive descriptions keyed to clear photographs showing both how to do the form as well as describing applications. With any Qi Gong form, having an instructor standing in front of you is ideal. However, Peter Fenton does the next best thing for those without this option. I learned key information that my instructor had not provided and I continue use the book as a valuable guide.

A previous reviewer describe the form that this book documents as "too simple" for people interested in the martial arts... For the record, the form described by this book was a closely guarded secret of theShaolin temple and it formed the basis for developing "external"qi for both martial and healing applications. The form was made publicearly in the twentieth century and has become very popular in China. Mostextremely effective qigong are deceptively simple. 4-0 out of 5 stars A short read to a long life
Bob Flaws is a prolific writer in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).In this book he imparts the wisdom of a Chinese emperor on longevity, interpreting how it can be adapted to contemporary life. This wisdom includes: appreciating different body needs for different stages of our life from childhood to old age; a regular lifestyle; modifying one's eating habits to include more grains, fruit and vegetables, and less meat; moderation in sex; ensuring sufficient but not too much rest and relaxation; self-massage exercises; good types of exercise; and the benefits of qi gong. The book is interspersed with excerpts from classical TCM literature as well as anecdotes from Bob Flaws personal clinical experience as an acupuncturist and herbalist.Readers new to TCM may find some of the terminology in the book a bit strange, but all readers will undoubtedly want to make some changes to their lifestyle after reading it. A few suggestions on further reading would have brought this up to five stars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent background and instructions
This book gets to the point quickly describing the history of Qigong, along with the medical background and overall benefits of practicing Qigong. It is a quick and informative read and leads up very effectively to a "how-to" instructional. Its often difficult to describe the physical movements and mind/breathing techniques without seeing the demonstration, but this book does an excellent job with detailed descriptions.I highly recommend this book to practicioners, novices, and to future/present instructors.
