This book is more than I expected. I only bought it hoping it would pinpoint the best stretching exercises to help in my bicycling. Besides getting sport-specific stretching suggestions, the book gives general stretching suggestions too. Chapter 1 walks you though a flexibility test for each general body part. Using the results of the test you can determine where you most need to improve on your flexibility. For example, if the flexibilty test determines that you need improvement in your hip area, the book refers you to which chapter or chapters of stretching exercises would most benefit you.

I think my title pretty much says it. There are no stretches to do on a daily routine. They all apply to specific things like golf or tennis. I don't play golf or tennis.

I'm surprised there are so few reviews for this book, and none really since it first came out.In my own life I have learned how truly valuable stretching is and how good it makes you feel.The title is very apt....because a consistent stretching program really is essential whether or not you exercise heavily.After you get into a stretching program you will WANT to stretch daily and if you don't you will notice the difference and be driven to do it, believe me!This book has about 62 pages of information, introduction to the purpose and benefits of stretching, and toucheson more esoteric benefits of meditation and relaxation gained from it.The rest of the book consists of various stretches...very well illustrated with photographs.Some of the more complex stretch take 2 pages and show step-by-step photos of each position thru the stretch. The printed descriptions are excellent...concise and easy to read.Each stretch tends to occupy one page, with a stretch name, description of what body parts it affects, a description of the benefits of the stretch, concise instructions for performing the stretch, and multiple photos of the positions of the stretch.Also included are some small stretches you can do at a desk, in a car in traffic, on an airplane, and so on.This really is the best stretching book I've yet to come across, and it's very easy to use.I just wish there were a video to go with it! ... I have struggled with severe upper back pain for over two years.I have been to see doctors, had x-rays (twice) and taken anti-inflammatory drugs off and on the entire time.It was extremely frustrating and led me to believe this was something I was simply going to have to live with.This book was an incredible revelation.The book not only gives you real practical help in identifying exactly what muscle is injured, but then goes on to give a detailed game plan for self rehabilitation, and beyond that how to strengthen the injured area so it won't become a problem again.I have only been using the techniques for a week or so now, but the change and relief I am starting to feel are amazing.I am so excited to know (and feel) that this problem will eventually be resolved 100%.I highly (or any muscle pain) recommend this book for anyone who struggles with back pain.This is not some kind of new age herbal nonsense.This is more like learning to perform physical therapy on yourself.
