After purchasing numerous exercise books, video tapes, balance balls, weights, etc., I found I was still too out of shape to do even so-called beginning exercise routines. I finally hit upon this book and discovered a program which I could "start with". The pictures and written explanations are clear and easy to understand; and the stretches are quite executable. You quickly learn that even holding your arms over your head with your hands clasped for 30-seconds "hurts" when you first start. And, moves such as bending to the side again with your arms raised, which sounds like a piece of cake, can cause huffing and puffing. The "15-minute routine" took me 53 minutes the first day but was down to 30 minutes by the end of the first week. I was both sitting and standing straighter within a few days. If you have been discouraged with other exercise programs or are really tight and inflexible, give this stretching program a try.PS:I am 67 years old! ... Read more

IMHO, this book bests Stretching, 20th edition, by Anderson.for the info it provides regarding the circumstances of stretching, info which doesn't appear in Stretching.Also, unlike Anderson's book, the authors aren't trying to sell you equipment.The bibliography and index indicate that this book is a professional work. GUYS, do not be put off by the fact that all of the drawings are of a woman.It is worth the price.

This book is really good for someone who is new to putting stretching into thier routine. The book is about 200 pages. The first 30 pages talks all about stretching, the benefits, the different kinds of stretching etc. This part of the book is excellent and I would buy it just for that because it had a lot of good information. (I exercise a lot but didn't know too much about stretching). I like the way this section is written, its talks scientifically but explains everything in layman's terms so the average person can understand. The next 45 pages are the actual stretches. I think they're okay. I would have been happier if they showed more variations. They seemed kind of simplistic. However, the benefit of this is they all looked very safe, which is important. Minimum stress on the knees for example. Good for people starting out or are injured or older. I was looking for something a little more challenging and more variety. Anyway, a very few of the stretches didn't have illustrations which I thought was strange- did they forget? Overall, there are stretches for every part of the body. The last 100 pages is devoted to specialty stretches, different stretch routines for ALL different kinds of sports, as detailed as windsurfing, stretches using special equipment like a pole or ball, recommended stretches for morning and evening and that kind of thing.

This book is so comprehensive.I love that it covers the basic stretches for everyone as well as sections on stretching for chronic conditions.I have asthma and carpul tunnel syndrome, just two of the conditions it specifically addresses.A bonus to me: it gives suggestions for children and pregnancy.I was originally intending on buying at least two books on stretching, but because of all the ground that this one covers, and the fact that it was written by two chiropractors, I don't feel the need to invest in any other texts.

The word "yoga" is not mentioned anywhere in the title or on the covers of the book, but make no mistake, every "stretch" in this book is a yoga posture. This twist of labelling, however, doesn't take anything away from the fact that this is an excellent reference on how to stretch your body _using_ yoga postures. The book is entirely focused on increasing flexibility and fitness: No long discourses on chakras, spirituality, or benefits of a vegetarian diet in here; just detailed instructions on how to stretch in each pose accompanied by high-quality, annotated photographs that clearly show the correct body configuration. Note also that this is NOT a book that talks about the physiology of stretching or Golgi reflexes or the phys-ed approach to stretches. Go elsewhere for that kind of information. The stretches in here aren't designed to help you isolate a particular muscle so the descriptions are all high-level (e.g. "lumbar spine", "hip", "neck").4-0 out of 5 stars Great Way to Add Stretching to Your Routine

I'm a weight lifter. When my massage therapist toldme about this book and told me it was about muscle strength, I thought that no one could be stronger than I was. I tried a couple of the exercises in the book andrealized I was not as strong as I thought I was. All I can say is give it atry you will be surprised how much more effective you become in the weightroom and with all exercise. I can lift more and I look better. My body isleaner and more cut. I also enjoy my workouts more because I am not soreafterwards. I particularly enjoyed the CD-ROM. It is a very effective wayto learn about this therapy and to try it for yourself. I recommend thisbook highly to anyone who wants to look and feel better.
