4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
This book was definitely a good buy.Great sections on the theory of stretching and flexibility, and a good section on kinesiology.Lots of great stretches and it was great that they told you which stretches would benefit a certain muscle group.I was also really excited to find a section on improving kick height (the main reason I bought the book).Towards the end it gives lists of stretches the are good for certain kinds of martial arts (light-contact, full-contact, grappling, weapons, MMA, boxing, nd the author's favorites).Overall this book is very good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tae Kwon Do Flexibility
This is a geat book to improve your flexibility.Master Kim is a TKD master but the book would be great for any martial artist.I needed to improve my flexibility but too many of the book were too technical without a direct understanding of why and how.Kim does a good job of showing and explaining how things neeed to be done.I am not quite to the ground with my splits but am quickly getting there.

3-0 out of 5 stars good but not great book
this was a good book, but many of the stretches are just basic stretching that we already know, but there are some that are new, and there are a lot of photos, which makes it very easy to see how to do certain things.good book for very beginners, but not that great if you are already doing stretching excercises, it is probably just a repeat of what you are already doing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This book was exactly what I was looking for.I play softball regularly and am approaching the age of 50, and I was looking for specific stretches to help me prepare to play. The book contains specific instructions and illustrations and is easy to folllow.Their are specific stretches to help with all kinds of activities, and the author has a long history of working with athletes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensable to fitness for all ages and sports.
In the good old days of typewriters, carbon papers, and stencil sheets, literary authorship served society at highest ethical, scientific, and artistic standards. In contrast, today's word processors and graphic software attracted to the field of book publishing plenty of con artists and commercial profiteers. This book on stretching by Anderson demonstrates the utmost dedication of its author to public welfare. Without sophisticated cameras or elegant graphing capabilities, the author was able to present all aspects of motion of human stretching by relying on hand-drawn sketches.
5-0 out of 5 stars Essential to workout injury free
It you enjoy running, walking of jogging you must stretch. If you like weightlifting you must stretch. If you play any kind of sport,.. again you must stretch. And guess what if you are not currently engaged in any physical activity, still will benefit a lot from stretching.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
This book has changed the way I think of exercise, of health, of fitness, EVERYTHING! It's excellent! It's a well-written, easy to understand book that teaches you how to work out once a week for 30 minutes and receive benefits all week. I've been an RN for over 30 years and have learned things I had never understood correctly before.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
The slow Burn takes alittle use to if you have been working out for sometime. You will most likly want to rush through the exercises but don't! Learning a new way of pushing the weights will improve your strength.

5-0 out of 5 stars Flexibility Instruction That Works, Plain and Simple
I went from not being able to touch my ankles, let alone my toes, to full side splits, and it took only six months. If you want flexibility training the right way, with clear simple instructions that really work, you need look no further.Pavel is a master teacher, one who understands why things work in great detail but Relax Into Stretch is not a textbook, it is a how-to manual.Pavel goes into great detail about the techniques you need to do to improve your own flexibility. The devil is in the details, and Pavel makes sure you know everything you need in order to safely improve your flexibility.
1-0 out of 5 stars should be entitled: "Re-hashed"
Pavel wrote a precursor to this book which he admitted wasn't "user friendly." (a ridiculous euphamism on his part) His first book contained the following: several drills that were basically useless including his version of chest stretches, rocking the head from side to side, and simply reaching for the ceiling on tip-toes. also, there were drills that were already well known and done in high school gym classes all over america like toe touching, standing and bending to the side while reaching overhead and the common split. Lastly, he incorporated what he called shutdown threshold isometrics. now that i'm attending school to become aphysical therapist assistant i've come to discover that this maneuver is nothing new to the stretching/physical rehab world and is occasionally just given a new name by a fitness instructor to make it seem like they know something that most don't.
2-0 out of 5 stars PNF stretched into 150 pages
I loved this book when I first read it, probably because I was uneducated about stretching.Pavel introduced this stretching technique which "instantly allowed me to touch my toes".It's quite simple, it's called Proprioceptive-Neuro-Muscular-Facilitation.PNF is found in many of the basic physical fitness texts. It is not revolutionary, it was not discovered "on the other side of the Iron Curtain", and it is not something worth $34.95 of your hard earned money. The only contribution Pavel has is showing you how to do PNF yourself. So you don't have to spend the money, I'll tell you right now: Go to a decent stretch, flex the muscle(s) being stretched.Hold your breath to increase the intensity of the flex, and then release the breath and the flex at the same time.Boom, you're done.

Editorial Review

One of the dirty secrets of the fitness world is that for all the talk about the importance of stretching, many athletes and other fit people don't bother with it. It's hard to gauge the benefits, and it seems as if the time could be better spent running, lifting weights, or perfecting sports skills. This sentiment is expressed by Dr. Bob Arnot in the foreword to "The Whartons' Stretch Book," and he says that the Whartons changed his mind. He went to them with a stiffened hip that he thought needed surgery, but after a regimen using the active-isolated stretching technique, his flexibility in that hip had increased 40 percent.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Whole Body Stretch
I was looking for a good book that I could get ideas for stretching. I am getting ready to be a fitness instructor and wanted to learn new stretches for before and after the class. The book is really good, but most of the stretches are done on the floor. I wanted more stretches that I could do while standing up. But overall I am very happy with my book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for athletes
This book was recommended to me by a skating organization. I thought it would be for top athletes..and while it is...there is a section for typists, people on their feet all day, methods of stretching to avoid surgery in some instances, etc.
5-0 out of 5 stars beggining of carpal tunnel
I began to develop tendonitis in my wrist, when I began to over do it in my guitar playing. This book showed me some wrist stretching which after about a month and a half the pain began to subside greatly.

Editorial Review

Dancers get their beautiful bodies by dancing, right? Well, there's more to it than that. They also do specific exercises and stretches to build their strength and keep their magnificent physiques injury-free. This book offers 50 of those exercises, ranging from routine abdominal movements to "center exercises" (which develop coordination and stability) to advanced leg movements (which, of course, give you legs like a dancer). The book even offers suggestions for music to play while you follow the training tips. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars binding falls apart
The content of this book is OK, but the quality of the book is poor. After relatively little use, the binding fell apart and most of the pages are loose, so it's extremely inconvenient to use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful and easy to follow instructions.
I looked at several books before purchasingthis one.I was immediately impressed with the spiral binding which allows the book to be open next to you while you are learning the pose. The pictures are large and show multiple steps to reaching the pose.I also liked the "Take Care" instructions.I highly recommend this introduction to Yoga.

4-0 out of 5 stars Only One Thing To Say About This...
If you are a golfer interested in flexibility - get this book!
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent routines
You probably have noticed that when your body is loose, you play better. If any of your golf muscles is tight, chances are your swing becomes inconsistent, no matter how much concentration you put into it. So instead of buying another golf swing book, do yourself a favor and get this one. This book offers a pre-game warm-up routine, a post-game stretch routine. These two alone will help you keep those muscles loose. In addition to that you will find a number of exercises to enhance both flexibility and power.
4-0 out of 5 stars Hit's the nail on the head!
Golf Flex is an excellent guide for both flexibility and strength. If you've ever been confused with stretching for golf as I've been, then read this book. Clear, concise, simple and mirrors the exact protocal of the american collage of sports medicine.

1-0 out of 5 stars Correct aim, poorly executed
Being a hack golfer I'm open to anything that will help my game. Although I do stretch prior to every game, I was doing only the stretches I was familiar with from years of playing raquetball and suspected I was missing some key stretches for pre- and post golf. In other words, I know I could do a better job. 3-0 out of 5 stars Weak impression
I am far from being the most athletic person in the world. This was one of the reasons I became interested in fitness for golfers. I do, however, know how to set up a regular stretching routine from high school gym classes, and found little new here to add to the exercises I already knew.3-0 out of 5 stars Lacks a routine
Though this book does contain a comprehensive list of stretches, it lacks a solid routine for their use.The author states that you can improve your game in 10 minutes a day, but it would take quite a bit longer than that to complete the 30+ exercises. The only routine offered does not incorporate the exercises into a daily routine. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Extremely clear illustrations and instructions
This very small spiral bound book lies flat while you are trying to use it.The illustrations are clear and the instructions for the various stretches are clear as well. The exercises look accessible to anyone who can sit up in a chair, but as with any exercise book you need to be careful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Getting fit is hard when you sit
As a wheelchair user, I use my muscles differently than the able bodied person so an exercise book geared for the able bodied is usually not useful to me.I found this book to be very helpful, with the use of therabandexercise aids (those long, stretchy neon colored things you've all seen) Ican work out specific muscle groups and areas of my body as I need.Alarge number of the exercises can be done in a seated position. The linedrawings are clear and very helpful. This would be a good book for anyone, able bodied or not who wants to ease into fitness following an injury, surgery, or just years of couch potato life. The spiral binding made iteasy to keep the book open in front of my while doing the stretches.Thisis a very practical consideration usually overlooked by writers of exercisemanuals. ... Read more

The Supple Body is simply the best exercise book I have ever read. It is written in an easy-to-read style. There were plenty of photographs. This is the one book I would take with me anywhere. You don't need much space. ALL the exercises are do-able for an average person. The book combines stretching, yoga, and calisthenic exercises. No special equipment ( other than an ordinary kitchen chair ) is required. There are different routines to for varying time commitments and busy schedules. Even if you do other forms of exercise (weights, aerobics ), I would heartily recommend this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best stretching books
These days physiotherapy is becoming rather specialized, with "sports therapists", "dance medicine", etc. Unfortunately, there's a lot of quackery mixed in with some half-useful advice.

This is a great book for people who are just starting out with an exercise regimen as well as for people who are already active.I used this book to help me train for the Avon 3-Day Walk (60 miles in 3 days) and am proud to say that after doing the stretches in this book (even at the beginner level), I could walk 15-20 miles in a day and never have even shin splints. This is a great way to make exercise (relatively) painless. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A great hatha yoga book
A very helpful book detailing the use of props. The writing is concise and easy to understand. The photo layout is easy to determine the correct alignment and use of props. This book has helped my practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars TOTALLY COOL!
This book is totally cool, delightful and delicious, just like yoga! I initially bought this book for my 23 year old daughter, thinking she could relate to the title. I quickly saw that the "tricks", clearly illustrated by people of different ages, various body types and backgrounds, are techniques for safely deepening our yoga practice. The author, Miriam Austin, credits her most influential teachers, including Ramanand Patel, who is well known for his ingenious use of yoga props. I'm adding this title to my list of recommended books for older students and their teachers!

Lovers' Yoga is so much fun! This book is a joy to look at with its wonderfull illustrations, and easy to read with simple instructions. My fiance and I have been practicing Lovers' Yoga and have increased our intimacy greatly. We even did a weekend retreat with Darrin Zeer, the author, and had the time of our lives!
