4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting
I read the other reviews and ordered the book anyway!I found it very interesting and inspirational.Yes the trend in the book follows what you see the stars wear in that the ends are flying everywhere, but in any style you modify it to your own tastes, just tuck your ends in if that is what you like. For me it was great.I got lots of ideas on how to put my hair up for a low price.A bargain (beats $60 at the salon for left out ends)!By the way, I have done several of the styles and I tuck the ends in, most look very sophisticated that way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy Styles Designed For Consumers To Do
I bought this little book because I am all thumbs when I try to do my own hair.Yes, I can go to a stylist and spend tons of money to get a twist or an updo but I would rather learn to do my own hair myself so that I can be prepared for last minute dressy events. This book is just great. The styles are easy to follow thanks to the great step-by-step instructions.I was able to create 3 of the styles all by myself after just a few tries.I think the beauty of this book is that even as styles change the book teaches basic principles of updos and twists that hair consumers can do themselves. This may not be a high fashion trendy hairstyling book but I don't think that was the intended audience.I have looked at so called "state of the art" styling books and was befuddled.1-0 out of 5 stars A waste of money
I shared this booklet with the rest of the stylists in my salon. It received nothing more than a good laugh. The styles are nothing that any of us would dream of wasting our time( if even only 5 minutes) and the hard earned money of our clients on. Even my 17 year old daughter told me how ugly the updo's were and threatned to never let me touch her hair or her friends hair again If I ever did a hair-do as hideous as these were. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars You're kidding me right?
This guy is the "hottest trainer" on the scene right now? Give me a break. Aside from a little definition in his chest and abs, he looks like he's never set foot in a gym, at least a real one! He has no development in his back, shoulders, legs or arms, and no wonder: There's hardly any real weight training routines anywhere to be found in this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Energetic
Derek Noble keeps it simple with easy reading and easy exercises for the fitness newcomer, as well as the fitness guru. Derek's program covers everything from fitness and stretching to nutrition and the book is a great reference guide for his fitness program. The book even includes exercises for the couch potato and exercises to do while doing housework. And Derek says that you don't need expensive equipment or gym memberships to become fit. If you don't have a lot of time and you want to look and feel good, then this book is definitely for you!

3-0 out of 5 stars Practical everywhere!
Talk about finding opportunities anywhere! Derek is the type who would showyou that travelling or working long hours aren't excuses for not working out.I first heard about Derek on t.v, and when I purchased his book, I was really impressed by his resourcefulness, something thats really lacking in many publications out here.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book
I've got Groves' other three books and this one is really great. Her instructions make sense, they're easy to implement, and she motivates me to make yoga a big part of my life. I didn't think much of yoga before I read this book. Now I'm sold on it. It's a fast read too, like her other books. The woman knows how to pack stuff in without overwhelming me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pratical Lifstyle guidance
This is a great book if you want to decrease stress and increase energy.Since I've been following Dawn's suggestions I feel more energetic and relaxed while increaseing productivity.I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Tai Chi: Ten Minutes to Health
One of the best books ever on the Tai Chi long form. Whilst it is a fairly old publication it is timeless. The steps are clear and concise. This book has more information per page than any other book I have read and DVD I have seen. It is worth every cent and is totally under estimated and under valued!

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book for the self-taught
The illustrations and pictures showing the position of the hands and feet are VERY useful to those self-teaching.Far more so than most books and videos on this subject. However, over and over I found that reference to the words and meaning of the introduction was essential to the learning process and answered issues such as breathing and martial arts potential of the exercise

4-0 out of 5 stars Very detailed Long Form

2-0 out of 5 stars excellent beginner instruction
This video is excellent for beginners in that the instructor is very clear about the movements and also uses two "students"from a rear view,in order to better ,still, understand the postures.1-0 out of 5 stars A Major Disappointment
This book is mis-leading.In describing Tai Chi movements the pictures disagree with the written text..."foot directly below the shoulder" and it isn't in the photograph. There are more suchdiscrepancies. The analogies may be common to the writer but confusing tothis reader..."sand pouring down your leg".There is a large andgrowing number of Tai Chi manuals. It's too bad publications like thissound so good and read so poorly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very useful for office workers
Yoga At Work is a great book! This book has nice line drawings of theyoga stretches and postures and good explanations. Not only does it haveyoga stretches, but this book covers such topics as the causes of physicaland mental stress, improving your workspace, "quick-fix"solutions to common problems, diet advice, and 10-15 minute programs thatare easy to follow and fit into a busy schedule. The book discussesmeditation, relaxation, and yoga for travellers. The progression ofexercises in the book is logical and easy enough for a beginner or someonewith limited flexibility. For each exercise, there is a nice drawing (ordrawings), what area of the body the exercise/stretch benefits, and how thestretch will benefit you. There are a lot of tips that are very useful forbeginners. There isn't really any spiritual focus, mostly just practicalinformation.None of the exercises requires any special equipment, otherthan a chair, perhaps. All can be done in a small workspace like a cubicleor office. The drawings show people in professional clothing and theexercises are especially designed for those who are confined to offices. There are stretches for those who mostly sit and for those who mostly standat work. All in all, this book is very useful for relieving strain at workand the exercises are easy to use.I think anyone could benefit from usingthis book.Even if you are not an office/factory worker, you might findthe short programs useful if you are very busy but want to loosen up alittle and relieve some stress. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Universal Form : Transforming Stress to Power in Three M
Doing the Universal Form can improve your physical and mental health and you don't need special shoes, clothes or place. You only need to bring your mind and body in harmony with your breathing and movements.TheUniversal Form's simple techniques conceal the powerful benefits gained forthose who practice the three-minute program every day.Master Lawrence Tanhas devoted his life to the study of Martial Arts.He has devised a systemthat strengthens the body, with emphasis on the philosophical and healthpayback you give to yourself.Combat for the average Joe, doesn't takeplace in a ring; it takes place with our boss, significant other and evenwith our-selves; the every day struggle. The book guides you through theprogram to help bring you the Power, Energy and Peace that we all seek; tolive each day to the fullest.I would highly recommend the book and videotapes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tri-Harmony is power for life
I have studied Martial Arts for some time now and I have studied Tan's Tri-Harmony system for two years. When learning Master Tan's style, The Universal Form is the first form you are taught. It becomes the foundationfor the rest.It is both subtle and powerful. It incorporates trulyuniversal principles of Body, Breath and Mind.So often in life today, especially in the fast paced city life, we do not breath fully and deeply. We deprive our muscles and organs of oxygen and open the way for stress andillness. When working the form you are alternately using and stretchingall the muscles in your body, while flooding the body with oxygen. Thisstrengthens the body from within, while maintaining and improvingflexibility. One year ago I was hit by a car while riding my bicycle towork.I shattered a one inch section of my left collar- bone intofragments. The Orthopoedic Surgeon said there is no way to operate on thistype of injury and that I would not likely regain more than 50-70% mobilityin that arm.I waited for two and a half months for sufficient bone growthto take place, then worked with Sifu Rich Huang, who teaches Master Tan'sStyle. In only 8 more weeks I had regained all my former mobility and mystrength was increasing again.Master Tan's Universal Form I feel isdirectly responsible for my full recovery.I had been practising it dailyfor a year prior to the accident and I'm sure this helped to create anatmosphere within the body that made full healing possible. The OrthopoedicSurgeon was astounded when I last visited him, only four and a half monthsafter the accident. He could not believe after that severe a break, that Iwas able to regain full flexibility and strength. This excercise can beperformed by any age group, in any space in just three minutes.Yet, thebenefits are long reaching and pervasive.I have studied several movementforms, but this is the one I will be teaching my children.I cannotrecommend it enough!

5-0 out of 5 stars As with tai chi or yoga, you can energize and relax
"The Universal Form" is a very interesting yet skeptical concept. The Universal Form is a moving meditational exercise which combines movements of many Kung-Fu styles but is very different in that this form isorchestrated into a three minute meditation designed to alleviate stress. The logic of The Universal Form created by Lawrence Tan: Martial artstraining teaches us what to do under extreme life-and-death circumstancesagainst an opponent though disciplining our body, soul, and mind.Tandemonstrates that these same techniques utilized correctly can empower usagainst a more ordinary adversary, stress an obstacle that faces everyonementally, physically, spiritually, in one way or another more commonly thanothers. In Tan's 35 years as a Martial artist he has taught many people todefend themselves however, in realization that the chance of a person beingattacked on the streets is relatively small compared to the guaranteedassault of every day stress. The Universal Form inspired by Bodhigharna theLegendary master of Zen and Saolin Kung-Fu aspires to improve postureflexibility, strength, balance, coordination and your respiratorycardiovascular and central isolated muscle groups and the abilities tocontrol them.Like Bruce Lee Tan teaches according to principles, not justtechniques. As with tai chi or yoga, you can energize and relax, calm andfocus your mind, improve your posture and enhance daily performance. However Tan states the Universal Form is easier to learn but must belearned and practiced properly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Helps your heart heal
This book was such a help for me. My heart hurt so bad after our miscarriage, it was unbelievable. This book helped my head gain a better understanding of the odds, facts, etc. so that my heart could begin to heal. I highly recommend this and have passed my copy on to others who appreciated it too after experiencing mc.

4-0 out of 5 stars I now feel armed with information
After a miscarriage during my first pregancy, I felt I needed answers.Even though there is rarely a known cause for a miscarriage, I feel better knowing there are steps I can take to make sure everything is being done for me that can possibly be done.I may never need to concern myself with another miscarriage again, but just having some knowledge is very powerful and has given me hope. It was very healing for me to know I now have "knowledge power" when everything else seems so out of my hands. I also plan to share this book with anyone brave enough to speak about their miscarriage.Unless you've gone through it, you don't know how it turns your life upside down.I'm glad there are good books out there on this often "hush hush" subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped me carry my baby to term
This book combined with Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler helped me prevent a third miscarriage and carry my beautiful little girl to term. What a shame it is out of print.Perhaps there is similarinformation in another book. The way it helped me was specifically theinformation regarding treatment options for low progesterone.Using theWeschler book, I was able to diagnose my probable problem. This book gavethe treatment of progesterone cream the thumbs down since she says 'mostwomen can't determine exactly when they are ovulating and the cream worksbest when used 48 hours after ovualtion/conception.'However, using theWeschler book enables you to know both before and after you ovulate and youcan even use a kit to help confirm you are ovulating if you want to be verycertain. With Weschlur's methods, you can save money on kits since youwill probably be so sure of your approaching ovulation, you will only needto use one or two sticks to confirm.Anyway, my heart goes out to all whohave experienced miscarriage as I have.God be with you and good luck.Ihope this helps someone else out there! ... Editorial Review

Anyone who isn't confused about exercise hasn't been paying attention. One organization advocates "exercise lite"--gardening and walking and taking stairs instead of elevators. But a significant body of scientific evidence shows that the more work you do and the harder you do it, the greater the benefits you derive. With "The 10-Minute LEAP," Brown has created perhaps the first system designed to help you get the best of both worlds. You can exercise as "lite" as you want on his program, and yet you'll still do it progressively--that is, work a little more and a little harder each week.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than Aerobic Points in the Ken Cooper books.
This book is an excellent way to determine a beginning program in terms of effort and time and a logical method how to progress without burning out.It has some questionaires, but don't be put off by the arithmetic. The charts determining your VO2 are accurate (correleated with my 1 1/2 run time) and the method of determining your first weeks target number and the increase for each week, helps you from being too lazy or pushing not hard enough. However it would have been good if the chart on the VO2 had been supplemented with a percentage(%) maximum heart rate chart, but the % heart rate and the correlated VO2 can be found on the web.In short, the point system is far superior to the Aerobic Points from the Ken Coopers books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome weight loss tool.
This is a great book. It illustrates the fundamental theories of health and excercise in a rational straight foward way. Also all the scientific proof is written in the book for the cynics. The point system may not be a favourite for everyone but once you get the gist of the program and start analysing food labels for yourself it is really easy to add in a few more exotic foods. It is very simple to keep track of what you have eaten and how much energy you have expended without having to anlalyse everything you do during the day. One point that may be relevant to note is the ratio that foods should be consumed in. Like all books, it is biased towards the authors background. Body builders like weider and bill phillips recommend far larger meat intakes than this book. This book also focusses on having a greater complex carbohydrate intake than some newer books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works for me!
The biggest benefit this book gave me was a reasonable, sensible goal. Without some kind of measurable goal (in this case, meeting the minimum number of exercise points per week), you have nothing to measure yourselfagainst and I always felt I wasn't doing enough! Now, when I've done myexercise for the week and I don't feel like getting up on Saturday morning,I just crawl back into bed! And it's working! Without changing my diet I'velost 10 pounds over the last month, just by using my stationary bicycle, hiking, and exercise videos. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars yoga for those pressed with time
If you want to feel fit but are stressed for time then you need this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
I had been interested in starting Yoga and found this book at my library. The fully-colored photographs convinced me to borrow it. As a beginner, I found this book VERY helpful. Aside from the photos, each pose is described step-by-step in detail, so it's very easy to follow. Also, there's a paragraph describing the benefits received from that particular pose (i.e. - what body part you're toning, stress-relieving purposes, etc.). At the end of each chapter is a list and of all the poses from that chapter's routine for quick reference.Read more
