This is an excellent book for anyone who is just beginning to exercise and/or is out of shape. It is simple and gentle on the new-comer so it does not leave one discouraged. I noticed improvement in my posture almost immediately. I also felt my muscles were more balanced (some had been very tight from over-use and others had seldom been used at all). There is also a "dance" perspective: grace and balance. And most of all I think I have benefitted from being "oxygenated" and "stretched". The book emphasizes breathing and concentrating. Concentrating helps alleviate boredom for those of us who find exercising kind of dull. My suggestion: Buy some CD like "Ocean Dreams" to go with your little exercise session and it will almost seem "spiritual" because you will feel betterafterwards. This book is very practical, and I find myself now applying some of these Pilates principals of exercise throughout my day...even when I am at work. ... Read more

"Total Fitness in 30 Minutes a Week" started me on the road from couch potato to (3:12) marathon runner. I bought it in the late seventies and its regime (which really does only demand 3 x 10 minute sessions a week) showed me that I COULD get fit and feel good about myself.

I hate to exercise, always have. However, this program is amazingly effective. I have used it 3 times over the last 20 years and it has always worked great. Just finished up the basic 6 month program andcan, for the first time in my life, do 3 or 4 one arm pushups with either arm. For me that is almost unbelievable.

Although the book is small, it reads like a long book; I wish Dr. Morehouse would cut the stories and focus on the facts. Chris Freytag knows her stuff.I have many of her workouts on dvd and so knowing how good of an instructor she is, I knew she'd have good stuff to say in her book.She does.She is well educated in health and she is certified by the American Council on Exercise.While she doesn't really add anything new to what we all already know, she does add insight to what she sees with her clients.She talks about their motivation or lack thereof and how to deal with all of that.Then she goes on to talk about ditching myths, excuses, building better body images, and then goes into the nitty gritty about diet and exercise.

I highly recommend this book, especially if you have previously purchased the Video Tape or DVD. Excellent instructions and illustrations so you can practice them slowly on your own in the beginning, without having to keep up with video. This book was like a breath of fresh air for me, it has so many good suggestions for improving our daily lives in simple down to earth ways . I really appreciated MS. Capone's writing style, she explained the theories behind techniques in a language that stayed with me long after I finished reading.I keep the book in my library now and I use it as a reference to remind me of how making little changes can change everything.I find the way the chapters are organized excellent for use as a quick guide for information. I have given the book to friends and it was appreciated by all .

This book works well for me. I have also used his previous book - Body Sculpting Bible for Women plus I have done weight training for many years. I'm not sure how this would be for a beginner as it is pretty fast paced, but if you're used to weight training and exercise in general and are looking to vary your routine, then this should work well for you.

I wonder how much trial and effort is behind this book? From what I read in this well-illustrated, plainly-written guide I think this is not a bodily-improvement manual for the average woman and is more suited to someone who is already a fitness and health fanatic. I'm trying to incorporate a few exercises here into my morning yoga but I don't think I'd embrace the entire program. That's just me, though. I don't think anything presented here will harm anyone but it's also not going to be easy enough that anyone can pick up this book, read a few chapters and get going to where she'd see immediate benefit. I guess what I'm saying is the jury is still out on this since I've only had it six days and it's too severe and intimidating for just anyone to get major use from it. But, again, that's just my opinion and the important thing about any exercise or body enhancement project is to simply GET MOVING. If this helps with that then it's done what it's supposed to do. Determined to lose weight, I bought this book when I was 21, and I gave the program 30 days. I noticed results within 2-3 weeks and by the end of the summer, I had dropped 25 lbs and two waist sizes. It's a great program that's easy to commit to and easy to work into your hectic schedule. The book is well illustrated and easy to follow. I stumbled upon this book at my local library recently and am still going through it. But I have started using its 4-minute facial massage (using olive oil) everyday for past 3 days and am already feeling a difference in my facial skin. It just looks more alive. I must tell that I am 30 years old and have struggled with acne all my youth and adult life and I have tried almost everything out there that my skin can endure with completely unsatisfactory results. After purchasing numerous exercise books, video tapes, balance balls, weights, etc., I found I was still too out of shape to do even so-called beginning exercise routines. I finally hit upon this book and discovered a program which I could "start with". The pictures and written explanations are clear and easy to understand; and the stretches are quite executable. You quickly learn that even holding your arms over your head with your hands clasped for 30-seconds "hurts" when you first start. And, moves such as bending to the side again with your arms raised, which sounds like a piece of cake, can cause huffing and puffing. The "15-minute routine" took me 53 minutes the first day but was down to 30 minutes by the end of the first week. I was both sitting and standing straighter within a few days.
