5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book! Changed my life...
I would like to thank Gary Null for getting this book out to the public. It's helped me get back my health. I'm 54 and could hardly walk a 100 feet before starting these exercises. I'm walking 3 miles daily now and have lost 70 pounds and I owe it to Gary's advice from this book. The book breaks down each exercise routine into east to follow steps and gives plenty of great info about diet. I would also like to point out a rather suspicious review from Publishers Weekly. This review slams this book and I really don't know why. The complaint seems to be too much information for advanced runners. Well if you're an advanced runner any book for beginners to advanced will have info in it that's covering what you already know. I believe this is just another establishment crony looking to take a shot at a leader in the alternative medicine and holistic health field. Thanks again Gary

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource
I found this book through Tammy Crouch Fletcher's RSI FAQ and the many suggestions helped me to improve my symptoms without surgery. Full of common sense, written by a patient (Ms. Crouch Fletcher had two surgeries and researched virtually every treatment available), full of good interviews and tips, and designed to help you help yourself. Excellent read before visiting the surgeon!

5-0 out of 5 stars Surgery is not always the answer.
Tammy is honest about herself and in her book shares the importance of knowledge verses the quick-fix.The resources given in the book alone, are worth the price of the book.A must read! ... Read more

Written by "Runner's World" magazine's senior writer, this book takes the form of question and answer over a wide range of topics. Simply put, it's a FAQ manual for runners.5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite author
Hal Higdon is my grandfather, and I'd love this book even if it wasn'twritten by him. :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Stellar Running Device
Although I considered myself to be a seasoned runner, I knew there was much that I had yet to discover before taking on my first marathon. This book helped incredibly - with everything from nutrition to preventingpotentially painful or debilitating injuries. Though training to run amarathon is most certainly an arduous and daunting task, Higdon's bookhelps to put running into perspective and removes it from the realm of"only the talented can do it."He gives running back to thosewho don't know everything about the sport and are willing to learn.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical Information for Protecting Students
Although the media focuses on Columbine-type shootings, students are much more likely to get hurt at school by falling on the playground, a spill in the chem lab, or being injured in gym class. These are all much more commonthan you may think. This book--which would be useful for school principals, nurses, the head of the PTA--presents an overview of how these injurieshappen and how best to prevent them. Each chapter is illustrated with realexamples and ends with comprehensive listings of other resources, frombooks to organizations to websites to videos. I found this book to bewell-written, thorough, and organized. Readers can focus on a single issue, such as vocational education, or can learn the entire scope of the problemof children and teens getting hurt while at school. If you are concernedwith keeping kids safe--as every school should be--this book can assist youin designing or improving an effective injury prevention program. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad
He's good at putting medical terminology is plain English, and the muscle diagrams are very clear. But he doesn't cover all areas of the body, and seems to cover only common aliments. The appendices are very good, and the rehab exercises are very easy to understand. But the rest of the book is hard to sort through. For more detail, I prefer 'The Sports Medicine Bible' by Lyle Micheli.

5-0 out of 5 stars user friendly
This book has an extremely tender bedside manner; it manages to be both intelligent and humorous without condescension.A well-written guide.

5-0 out of 5 stars Execellent book, written mostly for a health practitioner
This is a great book by a really good author. He is very grounded in science and there are a lot of different exercises.I am someone who is working to overcome back pain and about 50% of this book is too technical for me. Like some other authors talk about, one of the key points in the book is the some back pain is caused by poor posture and alignment of the pelvis. This is central to Pilates as well.I have found this to be true, but correcting it is the tricky part. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book.
This is an excellent book to help you fix your back injury if you have been in an auto accident like me. Full of useful tips, and general good advice. It's one of these self-help books that will help you tremendously dealing with the pain and suffering experienced after a personal injury. I am fond of self-help books, self-help websites and other self-help resources too, and this book is on the top of my list (others like this website http://www.settlementcentral.com) have helped me a lot on the legal side of my personal injury claim too. They even talked about chiropractic care as well as providing demand letters and other stuff useful if you have been in a car accident. This said, this is a book definitively recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sound advice, especially when you are hurting!
Last year I had a back injury that left me immobile for two months.During that time I read four back books to "empower" me with knowledge and tips for recovery.Dr. Homola's book (now with post-it-notes stuck in numerous chapters) was the most helpful. From helping to determine causes of pain, to outlining simple excercises you can do without buying expensive equipment, this book was the only one I really needed to read. It's a book I'll keep on hand as a helpful resource for years to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Informative.
I found this book very informative and have reccomended it to several others. When my herniated disk was causing lots of pain, I was desperate to get some relief. I just happened to find a reference to the author somewhere on the internet and even actually called him. He was very gracious to talk to me, shared some advice and kept me from making a very expensive decision concerning chiropractic care for my entire family. His book is straightforward and understandable. I thank him for the words of advice and his expertice, if your back is giving you trouble in any way, you'll find this book to be quite an interesting read. Thanks Mr. Homola! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars It was difficult to do and did not help me
I am sorry, some people say this book helped them but I found the exercises to be very tedious and ineffective. It was actually a pretty upsetting experience, because it was all so uncomfortable to do, and I really needed to find a solution to my Repetitive Strain Injuries but could not.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book! These exercises helped me immensely!
As a musician, I play the piano about 30 hours per week. This became difficult with the onset of tendonitis and carpal tunnel symptoms. I did these exercises daily for about 6 mos. with a personal trainer and physical therapist. I now live symptom free!Thank goodness I said no to the cortisone injections!I highly recommend it to anyone with similiar problems. You can be healed with this system of exercises.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delivers on all counts
I had a chronic clenched muscle on the left side of my mid back for about 7 years. Some days it would be no problem, some days the pain was almost totally debilitating--I couldn't sit still for more than 5 minutes, which was a huge problem since I spent most of my time on the computer or at a drawing table. I tried chiropractic, massage, rolfing, yoga. Nothing gave me long-term relief. Then I found this book through my rolfer. I was skeptical about the back exercises, because you work on the thighs, not the back at all. Well, after doing the back exercises twice, the pain was gone. Entirely. Doing them once every three months now is enough to keep me pain free.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for all birth professionals!
It's clear that the book is writen for professionals because of the jargon, and in my opinion every professional should read it! I am on my way to become a doula and unfortunately this book is not on the required reading list, I think it should be. It is an important tool for when labor doesn't progress 'as it should', and offers options and ideas to try before the drugs and machines are introduced to speed up labor are introduced.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for the patient, too
Having labored with three babies who presented posterior and caused long hard labors, I have looked for information after each one. After the second baby delivered posterior, and I became pregnant with my third, I came across this book. Reading it two or three times before my delivery, I had it almost memorized and used a lot of the suggestions from it. The third delivery (thanks to help from this book and my doctor) we were able to turn the baby. I can't credit the book entirely since my doctor had to manually turn the baby's head, but I do think the positioning and activities the book suggested were half the victory. I wish all birth professionals would read and reread the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for Doulas
This book should be on the recommended reading list for all doula training programs! In a clear, concise, and thoughtful way, Penny explains what makes labor progress, how to recognize labor progress, and how to help with labor progress. My copy is always in my birth bag.I have used it at several births for various reasons, and have always found it to be helpful, with reminders or even just to reaffirm that I've done everything possible.I recommend this book for anyone in the childbirth field and for expectant couples as well! ...
