5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, Injury Free Running for the Masses
ChiRunning was the first running technique book I'd ever read. I found it because of a silly injury that wouldn't go away and the "injury free" on the cover dragged me in.
3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting technique, but less the expected
A decent book with some interesting ideas, but little to do with anything "Chi," which was a little disappointing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Truly Revolutionary Running
This book is easy to read and packed with lots of valuable information.I am training for my first marathon and have used this book to help me with this process. It has given me a new way of running without injury and helped improve my overall running efficiency.I am very thankful to have come across this book at this important time in my training. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Bible for Freediving
As a freedive instructor, I feel that this book should be manditory for ALL freedivers who wish to learn from a master of the sport.
5-0 out of 5 stars In Europe freediving is an art form.
In Europe freediving is an art form. It is against the law to spearfish using tanks therefore spearfishermen have had to dive deep in the cold waters of the Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea hunting their quarry. More than that, freediving is the building block upon which good diving and underwater skills are based.
4-0 out of 5 stars Freediving
The intent of this book is to help you become a better freediver. It contains excellent teaching to help improve your freediving skills. There is practical advice to help you relax and learn to be in tune with your body. This book will help you to reach new levels of performance, dive deeper, stay longer, with more comfort and ease.

5-0 out of 5 stars Career saving
When I was managing a software development group, a programmer on the team showed up at work one day with wrist braces. Turns out typing had become agony for him. He read this book, then diligently and conscientiously followed some of the recommended practices (strength training, yoga, serious workplace ergonomic changes). The wrist braces are gone, and his career has been saved.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource
I bought this book after all the glowing reports and am happy to say it lived up to my expectations. Just improving my posture (one of the suggestions) has helped with my RSI.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Want To Know Where I'd Be Without This Book
I have been putting off writing my review because I have so much to say and in the meantime my hands are not yet a hundred percent. BUT it is thanks to this book (inconjunction with THE TRIGGERPOINT THERAPY WORKBOOK, which I found later) that I am not disabled today. The doctors I went to were not only shockingly unkind but dangerously misinformed...so I feel it is my duty to pass the info. on ASAP and I will revise this review later.

5-0 out of 5 stars You "Kneed" This Book
Corny review title, I know. But if I only knew ten years ago (five years, one year) what I know now...what I know now because of this book.
3-0 out of 5 stars Readable knee book, but poor or lack of images
I found this book helpful, but dissappointing because the author could have made his explanations much clearer with the help of (coloured) pictures.

4-0 out of 5 stars Knee Crisis Handbook

5-0 out of 5 stars A 'must read' for everyone who deals with backs
Everyone who deals with backs, either in sports (athletes, coaches, trainers), physicians, therapists, and back pain patients themselves, should read this book. I am a physician who specializes in back disorders and back pain. I have followed Dr. McGill's reseach for many years and it has revolutionized my practice like nothing else. One of my top priorities with back pain patients is to review what exercises they have been given in the past.I invariably stop them from doing several excercises that Dr. McGill's research has proven to be quite harmful for the back. I Substitute the 'big three' excercises that are described in this book, and many of the patients need no further intervention. There is a great deal of misinformation regarding back excercise, and many of the excercise routines used in sports, schools, military, and fitness centers are harmful. That is why this book is so important; not because it gives another fitness guru's opinion, but because it gives good, scientifically based facts on one of the tougher clinical issues from a world renown expert. Thank you Dr. McGill - keep the research coming!
5-0 out of 5 stars A Good Source of Infromation
I refer to this book many times over over the years and has helped clear up that tricky patient that is not getting better as fast as they and you the doctor would like. Great source of information for any doctor regardless of how many years in practice. Also highly recommend a book I found to be execellent source for rehabing my patients is called The Backsmart Fitness Plan by Dr.Adam Weiss. A DC who has written a very good and detail source of exercises that patients suffering from back or neck pain can do and make progress. These books add many useful tips to my practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars For Every Doctor
This book is full of information that every doctor who sees patients should have in their office. A must have , detail of structure issues and resvoling layout and protocol.Highly recommended. Also recommend The Backsmart Fitness Plan By Dr. AdamWeiss, a book written for pateint care in laymen's term for a complete full body workout. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What Every Pianist Needs to Know About the Body
Very nice book.Excellent condition.

5-0 out of 5 stars This was exactly what I needed.
I am immensely grateful for this book.It was exactly what I needed to overcome various painful problems I was having at the keyboard, and I imagine would be similarly helpful to all the people who believe they have carpal tunnel syndrome or arthritis at their computer keyboards as well.Besides making the book available to my fellow music-lovers and students, I also make a point of telling my doctors about it.Have seldom underlined, dog-eared and added stars to a book as much as this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars A little bit of everything
This book can be used by pianists and piano teachers (often isolated in small towns) to find up-to-date answers to recurring injury problems, inspiration for playing "from the mind and heart" as well as the hands, and, in general, just talking about piano (although a lot of the information works well for other instrumentalists as well--especially the exercises for flexibility and strength). It's like a "class in a book." ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful guide for people with physical restrictions
This guide is helpful for persons with physical limitations and provide safe non-impact exercises. It would be helpful if the guide would inform the purchaser that assistive devices would aid with the routines.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
The best parts of this book are the detailed photographs of all the exercises, included in both a large format (one per page) and a small format (so that you can see many exercises per page). The only thing that would make the book even better would be if the small photographs were offered separately on water-resistant material, so that you could bring 'em into the pool. I'll probably photocopy those pages, and laminate them, so that I can do that. 5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous! Thank goodness I found this book!
I had a devastating knee injury about five and one half months ago (the doctor stated that I may never be able to obtain my pre-injury range of motion)The traditional rehab was going very slowly and very painfully. I asked my physician if I could exercise in the water, and after his approval, I started with the workouts in this book along with my prescribed rehab. I have gained 80% of my pre-injury range of motion and on a good start with my strength and balance with VERY little pain!! My physical therapist said I started improving much more rapidly after starting the water workouts and I have already exceeded the expected post-operative range of motion. I could not have done it without the water workouts!! ... Read more

I ha recommended this book to many people and bought it as gifts. i faithfully do the exercises and follow the menus. I even showed it to my dr. It is wonderful for those of us who are older and even the younger since I bought it for my daughter-in-law

5-0 out of 5 stars must have reference book for home library
I took out a number of books from the library including recent releases. Admittedly, I reviewed them from a different perspective than older folks as I'm just over 40.This was the most informative book with relevant information to my age group. Even though I work out regularly and thought I had a pretty good routine, there were plenty of enlightening strength exercises that have never been in my repertoire. That reason alone rates this book superior than others. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars YogaNap Works!
I love this book!A friend recommended it to me, because of mystressful schedule, and it has helped me so much.I started incorporating a couple of Kristen's exercises in my day and the tension in my neck is starting to go away.It is amazing how I feel immediate benefits when I stop running around for ONE minute and simply bend over and breathe.I do yoga on a regular basis, but these exercises have helped me to blend more peace and relaxation into my work day.I find myself doing half dog on my desk, twisting when I get in my car, and taking slow beautiful breaths in traffic. These fun and simple exercises really help me go through my day with more awareness and joy.
5-0 out of 5 stars As Easy As Pie...
I've come to the realization that with age and work comes stress...mind-numbing, balled-up-muscles, backaches, headaches...stress. Desperate to find relief in any fashion I came across "YogaNap." The author, Kirsten Rentz, has done a great job at explaining positions in true "Yoga for Idiots" fashion (aka: simply). The illustrations (softly done in blues, and greens) go one step further in making the whole process as easy as pie (mmmmm, pie). Anyway, the poses are a perfect way to end a long (mind-numbing, balled-up-muscles, backaches, headaches) stressful kind of day. Thanks Kirsten!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Yummy yoga rest
The perfect gift for the busy professional who needs to slow down, the stressed-out student, and every person who has avoided yoga due to fear of hot rooms and sore muscles, YogaNap is a fun and unintimidating introduction to the oft-ignored practice of restorative yoga.

4-0 out of 5 stars This program works.
I do a lot of knitting and fibercrafts and had to take long breaks from it to recuperate, sometimes days. With these exercises my hands feel fine even after many hours of knitting.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great resource for repetitive strain injuries
I am an Occupational Therapist who specializes in Hand Therapy.Kate` Montgomery's book is a very helpful resource for anyone suffering from repetitive strain injuries. This wholistic approach is a good blend of techniques from various health traditions. It is written in layman's terms with excellent illustrations that help you understand the cause of the pain and why you should follow the suggested program of stretches and massage. The self-massage techniques and exercises are especially helpful for those who need visual reminders of how to perform the various massage techniques and stretches. This book is a good supplement to treatment for those who are currently under the care of a health professional as well as those who are not in treatment. It is self-empowering for those willing to take responsibility for their health and follow the suggested 12 step corrective program on a daily basis. The sports balm is a helpful addition that promotes healing and relief of pain.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a must if you have wrist problems
I've been playing drums for 10 years and using a computer intensively for the last 4 years for both study and work. About 12 months ago i decided i hadn't been practising drums enough and started to play again like i had before i started using computers - BOOM!!! Within 2 weeks i realised the occaissional pain i felt in my right wrist and hand after a long day on the computer wasn't the same as sore legs after going jogging. I've had semi-permanent pain in my right wrist and hand ever since and i've been extremely depressed and freaked out about it. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Answers all the BS I hear when I do tours.
For the most part, there are two kinds of riders in the world: 1) people who ride, ride with others, and have expert knowledge based on experience, and 2) people who read and talk about riding, buy only the best and most expensive equipment, yet have trouble with such simple tasks as navigating obstacles or managing heat loss. The No. 2s out there are obsessed with weighing pasta, exact calculations of cadence, heart rate, aerodynamics, and shedding single digit grams from their bicycles. The No. 2s also make the No. 3s (novices who just want to ride more) nervous about taking on an event or increasing their distance because they're convinced by the No. 2s that they haven't the expertise or elite equipment needed to ride 'seriously.'
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Arnie covers common aches and pains, butt/groin numbness, nutrition, aging, etc etc.The dude is an MD and an avid cyclist which means he brings to the table the facts of the medical issues relating to cycling and the practical aspects (like how and what to eat before a race) of riding.

3-0 out of 5 stars A little disappointed
Maybe I had too high expectations for this book. A lot of solutions (eg lower back pain) are: change bicyle fit, but don't elaborate how and why! Also, women should not stay in the drops too long if they anticipate a romantic evening? It's not a bad read but I was hoping for more solutions and insights than it offers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars READ THIS AND START PLAYING AGAIN.THERE IS HOPE!
After a year of computer/instrument tendonitis, I FINALLY found this book, which really gave a lot of good, CURRENT information.Better yet, I made the pilgrimage to see Dr. Paull in Stouffville, Ontario. It was worth the 10-hour drive. She gave me a lot of important information that contradicted a lot of misinformation given to me by well-intentioned doctors, chiropractors, massage therapists, acupuncturists, pharmacists, etc. who seem to just perpetuate the status quo of repetitive strain injuries and rehabilitation without really researching new information about them. Read this book, consult Dr. Paull and start playing again.Christine Harrison, the musician who co-wrote the book, had a musician's horror story to tell and she is now playing professionally again after a FIVE YEAR UNNECESSARY hiatus. The book also has excellent information regarding stretches, posture, excercises and anatomy.READ THIS BOOK AND GET THE INFORMATION YOU NEED TO START PLAYING AGAIN!I did.I guarantee you can, too, if you follow Dr. Paull and Christine Harrison's advice.Good luck. 5-0 out of 5 stars An indispensible book for every musician
Every musician who wants to avoid a playing injury or is recovering from such an injury should own this book. This is not a read-once book but a book to use and refer to until one has it memorized. 5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Yet
This book is written with a tenderness that is lacking in other books on the subject. Sensitive issues such as sexual dysfunction, abuse, trauma, and body image need to be addressed with compassion- and this book prevails. Comprehensive in its scope but not overwhelming. It's modern, it's fun, it's THE book to buy for understanding your sexual self.

5-0 out of 5 stars Recommendation from College Woman
This book was recommended to me in my Women's Health course at my undergraduate university.I picked it up and couldn't put it down! It has made my sex life much more healthy and enjoyable! My roomates and I have loved sitting around and talking about our sex lives and reading exerpts to each other. I am giving it to them for the holidays. I think it makes an excellent gift.

Editorial Review

This book has become a bible for those suffering from RSI. It explains what to ask your doctor(and why) when you go in for a diagnosis; it also lists more than two dozen types of RSI and relatedconditions, from cervical radiculopathy to reflex sympathetic dysfunction to fibromyalgia. If these termssound intimidating, then the book succeeds in bringing them down to clear, manageable definitions.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy into this book
Most books on RSI are poison for your mind. You'll read about: RSI horror stories, how the body is fragile and easily injured, and how you should curtail your work and daily activities. All of this will only make the pain worse, and will increase the number and the severity of your symptoms. You'll start to become afraid to do anything--the fear will make the pain worse, and the pain will make the fear worse, creating a downward spiral.
3-0 out of 5 stars good
I found this to be the best book as far as having pictures to show how to do stretches and on good typing technique.4-0 out of 5 stars Good comprehensive introduction to RSI.
"Repetitive Strain Injury: A Computer User's Guide" by Pascarelli is a good introduction for those who know nothing about RSI. Even a cursory search of the Internet will turn up several references to this book as the classic on the subject. It describes what RSI is, what the risk factors are, how to evaluate your physician in terms of his or her RSI awareness, how to treat RSI symptoms, and it offers tips on workstation configuration, typing and mouse technique, monitor settings, and daily living. If you think you have RSI and your first instinct is to go out and buy yourself a wrist wrest and a splint, stop and read this book first, it explains why these amateurish attempts at self treatment are a bad idea. I was disappointed that the book didn't offer more specific advice for actually treating RSI, though I understand that would have been difficult given the large number of causes and manifestations of the disorder. The book claims on the front cover to contain a "seven point program for treatment", but most of the advice for treatment itself consists of "go see a doctor". This is frustrating given the book's repeated claim that most doctors know nothing about RSI or don't even believe in it in the first place. Another thing that really annoyed me was the book's assertion that employers are largely responsible for RSI. The basic message was: "RSI isn't your fault. It's just another example of how `the Man' exploits you in a thankless and mindless job." In my case, my RSI was caused by my own obsessive work habits. The book does list "Driven Behavior" as a risk factor for RSI, but it gets only a perfunctory mention. Another negative is that the book focuses on tendonitis-type RSI, whereas my problem was clearly nerve-related (numbness, weakness, and lack of coordination in hands, forearms, and upper arms). The book that really nailed my problem on the head, and that I recommend as a supplement to this one if your RSI is caused by obsessive computer use, was "It's Not Carpal Tunnel Syndrome!", by Damany, who worked under Pascarelli treating patients for many years. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Don't let it scare you out of a massage career.
As a Licensed massage therapist of 8 years, specializing in deep tissue work, I went through a period of injury early in my career, and turned to Ms. Greene's book to get help and hope.Unfortunately, I came away more nervous than hopeful of being able to continue with many years in a massage career that I enjoyed so much.I learned from a colleague that Ms. Greene does not practice massage anymore, and does indeed make her living off of her book, and lecturing, as another reviewer commented. In her book she takes prevention to some extremes that a massage practitioner of any experience would scoff at. I found that my period of injury was a good time to research as much as I could from various sources and figure out what would help me. (And subsequently my clients)This is not to say that there isn't some good information to be gleened from this book, but the author has given up the practice of massage, just consider the source.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great information, much needed for students and prof's
My massage school offered very little information about injury prevention, so this book was an eye-opener for me.I think many students and even professionals don't take care of their own bodies and need the informaton that's in this book. Many of my fellow students became injured while they were in school and didn't know how to deal with it. I have many friends who are massage therapists, and when they have pain they don't know why or what to do about it.I have had pain in my arms several times, and this book helped me figure out why and get the right treatment to keep it from getting worse. I would recommend this book for any massage therapist.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must buy for massage therapist and bodyworkers
