3-0 out of 5 stars Good info despite pompousness
This book has some interesting anecdotes and good herbal remedies and qigong exercises.I did not care at all, however, for the pretentious "I'm so modest I must be great" style the guy has. This made me suspect the credibility of his tales. And this is too bad, because qigong is all that and more.5-0 out of 5 stars A book that I could not put down!
With each page I read I felt that this could work for me. I have Lupus and I am desperately searching for a way to at least, stop the pain, and to come back to the living. This book has given me hope.I am truly amazedat the things that Dr. Liu has done in his life, but I know that it is notimpossible. I do believe in miracles. I wish that I could meet himpersonally. Thank You Dr. Liu, the book was wonderful!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very interesting book
This book served as my introduction to Qi Gong.I had never heard of it before but since I have been searching for some pain relief I expanded my reading to healing techniques used by other cultures.I loved the authorsdescription in the first part of the book about becoming a Qi Gong master. After reading the book I became very interested in some of the exercisesand have included them in my exercise routine and have read more on thesubject of Qi Gong(Ken Cohen's "The Way of Qi Gong" is good). Most of the book is very easy to understand and implement.I have nottried any of the herb "remedies" he writes about because I don'tknow enough about them yet but feel the exercises are helpful. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great ideas
This activity book is full of great ideas and I have been using with my younger children that I counsel with ADHD. It has helped them focus and learn useful things about ADHD. It is a great resource

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensible Resource For Those Dealing with AD(H)D Student
This book is an invaluable aide for parents, educators, and professionals dealing with the challenges faced by AD(H)D students in school. It is a book that can be given directly to students as well. Written in a clear, visually appealing format, it presents worksheets and quick exercises thatguide the late grade school, middle school or high school student to anunderstanding of how this disorder affects their ability to learn. Itprovides information such as how to choose and adopt various studytechniques that will help children with AD(H)Dbecome successful students. It coaches students in using active study techniques to remember what theyread, or to develop written reports. Students are not resistant to usingthe concepts because of how they are presented and is a book that hasapplication to non ADHD students as well. I highly recommend this workbookand have found it much more much more useful that the "Putting on theBrakes" book by the same authors. Of all the self help books I havelent out to people, this is one that people use so much they forget toreturn it! I just keep buying more copies because I don't want to bewithout the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars It makes sense to my students!
"Putting on the Break" has helped several of my students/clients understand what is really happening when they can not stop. One student'smom said, "This is the first time I see Laura interested in a book, any book. She explained why she has trouble paying attention like a pro.Thanks."The book gives the children a perspective they can relateto.Adults can be too wordy, the books helps them "see" and"feel" about ADHD.Thanks for making the book available inSpanish. We need more for the Spanish- speaking population. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Low-Fat Diets Are Dangerous For 25% Of The Population
Right after a massive heart attack, my cardiologist put me on the Ornish Program.Yes, my total cholesterol dropped, but so did my HDL (good cholesterol). My LDL (bad cholesterol) increased. Most alarmingly, in less than a month, my triglycerides more than doubled! My cardiologist had no explanation for this phenomenon. So, I ate even less fat (down to 5% of total calories). My blood chemistry did not improve.5-0 out of 5 stars Saved my life!

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally an Offensive Thinker in the Game Against Asthma
Can you answer the following:
5-0 out of 5 stars information that every asthmatic should know about
I loved this book. Simple, consise, practical and honest. Look at your lifstyle and make simple changes to your breathing. You know you are on the right track when you feel a lot better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Absolute must for asthmatics
Buteyko breathing and helpful accounts of diet and exercise- ground breaking stuff. I would advise readers to do their research on Buteyko especially if they have breathing related problems. The site of the book is http://www.asthma-care.com/ - look at the history, conditions, and scientific evidence from the New Zealand Medical Journal and Australia Medical Journal. It is incredible that this approach has not being adopted into mainstream medication - maybe this will happen but will surely take time. You can take the first steps now- read this book ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Plan that works
I figured out my body type from the information in the book and did the appropriate exercises. The exercises are not hard and are not very time consuming.I have several posteral issues that I've had all my life. After a couple of weeks I could feel that my body had changed - not that I lost weight, but that things were in different places.Later I noticed more changes. It's really helped with my postural issues - something no other exercise program had done.I'd recommend it.

After suffering for more than 8 years with chronic low back pain I was fortunate to learn of Anthony Carey and the Function First Approach.I have always led an active lifestyle but after reaching my mid-thirties the years of misalignment had taken it's toll.Rather than "elect" for surgery I educated myself and found Anthony Carey.WOW... What a difference. After identifying the CAUSE of my pain, Anthony gave me the specific exercises to alleviate the pain once and for all.(All this without surgery or special equipment!)Now Imaintain an active, pain-free lifestyle.Kudos Anthony Carey and the Function First Approach. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Balanced overview of heart disease and treatment alternatives - provides pros and cons without insisting that it's the only way!
Although a pessimist could say that this is a low key ad for Dr. Whitaker's Wellness Institute, which in small part it is, the book provides a balanced view of just what causes heart disease and provides sobering thoughts on the fact that there is no "magic pill" or clear cut way to attack the problem.Differing views are presented and the background for such, although not clearly articulated in the book itself, is provided via the references so that the reader can further explore if more details are desired. The recipes section is somewhat of a waste of print but other than that I found the book very helpful in aiding in an understanding of heart disease and the array of possibilities for treating it.The book also pretty clearly delineates between a "preventative" program and a "reversal" program, dependent on one's personal situation and goals.

1-0 out of 5 stars CHELATION THERAPY IS QUACKERY
It's just that simple. There is NO credible clinical evidence that chelation therapists do anything for patients except lighten their bank accounts. If any chelation therapist wants to sue me for writing this, BRING IT ON!
3-0 out of 5 stars How do you know you're reversing heart disease?
How can you really know whether coronary heart disease is truly being reversed? Does just surviving until your next birthday suffice? Does not developing symptoms tell you anything? Does even losing 10 lbs really tell you whether coronary plaque has shrunk?

3-0 out of 5 stars Extremely clear illustrations and instructions
This very small spiral bound book lies flat while you are trying to use it.The illustrations are clear and the instructions for the various stretches are clear as well. The exercises look accessible to anyone who can sit up in a chair, but as with any exercise book you need to be careful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Getting fit is hard when you sit
As a wheelchair user, I use my muscles differently than the able bodied person so an exercise book geared for the able bodied is usually not useful to me.I found this book to be very helpful, with the use of therabandexercise aids (those long, stretchy neon colored things you've all seen) Ican work out specific muscle groups and areas of my body as I need.Alarge number of the exercises can be done in a seated position. The linedrawings are clear and very helpful. This would be a good book for anyone, able bodied or not who wants to ease into fitness following an injury, surgery, or just years of couch potato life. The spiral binding made iteasy to keep the book open in front of my while doing the stretches.Thisis a very practical consideration usually overlooked by writers of exercisemanuals. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This program works.
I do a lot of knitting and fibercrafts and had to take long breaks from it to recuperate, sometimes days. With these exercises my hands feel fine even after many hours of knitting.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great resource for repetitive strain injuries
I am an Occupational Therapist who specializes in Hand Therapy.Kate` Montgomery's book is a very helpful resource for anyone suffering from repetitive strain injuries. This wholistic approach is a good blend of techniques from various health traditions. It is written in layman's terms with excellent illustrations that help you understand the cause of the pain and why you should follow the suggested program of stretches and massage. The self-massage techniques and exercises are especially helpful for those who need visual reminders of how to perform the various massage techniques and stretches. This book is a good supplement to treatment for those who are currently under the care of a health professional as well as those who are not in treatment. It is self-empowering for those willing to take responsibility for their health and follow the suggested 12 step corrective program on a daily basis. The sports balm is a helpful addition that promotes healing and relief of pain.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a must if you have wrist problems
I've been playing drums for 10 years and using a computer intensively for the last 4 years for both study and work. About 12 months ago i decided i hadn't been practising drums enough and started to play again like i had before i started using computers - BOOM!!! Within 2 weeks i realised the occaissional pain i felt in my right wrist and hand after a long day on the computer wasn't the same as sore legs after going jogging. I've had semi-permanent pain in my right wrist and hand ever since and i've been extremely depressed and freaked out about it. Read more

This book also addresses exercises and information for those with Lymphedema. However when you go to Google, Yahoo.com or any search engine.......this book does not come up when you type in Lymphedema. It does come up for a lot of other needs like cancer, exercise, health, disease, fitness, etc which is also what the book has in the way of exercise and information, but perhaps people with Lymphedema are missing out by not including the connection to Lymphedema as well.5-0 out of 5 stars Thriving After Breast Cancer

Upbeat, inspiring, innovative, medically sound, and therapeutic in the broadest, most uplifting sense! I was privileged recently to have been present at a Book Signing attended also by many women who had been members of the Focus on Healing Classes, some of them for a long time period. You have never seen such a vibrantly beautiful collection of "winners" gathered in one spot to celebrate the joys of participating in the program described. Actually, the ground theory of this book, Dahn-Hak(which is ancient yoga-like training method originated from Korea and China) is all about keeping strong dahn-jun(japanese:Hara). But brain respiration is very different. This B.R. focuses not on dahn-jun, but sang-dahn-jun, or brain. This is very dangerous approach. Before you can do B.R training, you got to have strong dahn-jun. It takes long long time to do B.R. Please reconsider buying this book, I don't recommend this book. I had been long time trainee of Dahn-yoga.
4-0 out of 5 stars Here we go again ...
This book is fine. It presents very standard and elementary ki and chakra flushing/balancing exercises and meditations, all wrapped in lot of Korean vocabulary representing standard well-known Indian and Chinese internal energy theory. That is good, as basic practices are always the most important in any field of work.
5-0 out of 5 stars impressive techniques that actually work
I bought this book together with the CD Instruction of the same title as an impulse purchase and found that it is a series of Qigong methods from a Korean perspective. It deals with methods for getting the body sorted out before one starts into Brain Respiration (dont be fooled by the title). It is a very effective method of training to sense Ki (Qi) and use it for circulation around the body. Further steps head towards a holistic Body/Mind/ Spirit approach devoid of the usual Chinese TCM/Qigong/Taiji terminology. Therefore making this great for Westerners. The Ki sensing exercises after the 1st week caused stress reduction and a mental calmness that I have not experienced in a long time. Because the feedback (feeling) is immediate only after 5 minutes of practise, it sure goes a long way to motivating oneself to do this every morning. Thoroughly recommend that the book and CD are purchased together and just try it for a month. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Yoga Series + Variety of Postures to Heal Ailments
This is by far my favorite Yoga book. I have been practicing Hatha Yoga for years (Hatha Yoga is the physical Yoga that is the most common form in the Western world), but have discovered that many of the techniques and sets of asanas (exercises) described in Yoga books were not very tuned in to Westerners. Acu-Yoga combines Acupressure and Hatha Yoga into a very palatable form for the common Westerner. It is the best book I've seen as of yet for anyone suffering an acute or chronic disease or symptom. There are symptomatic exercises for such discomforts as the common cold, sinus problems, menstrual tension to exercises for more serious problems such as hypertension and spinal disorders. I have often warded off an oncoming flu or cold by following some of the advice in Acu-Yoga. There is additional supplemental advice from Michael Gach, in terms of lifestyle and nutritional imbalances - and very effective solutions to bring our bodies back into a state of harmony.5-0 out of 5 stars Yoga for Beginners and Experienced Practitioners
This is the one book that I recommend for anyone interested in yoga and overall health. By combining postures with meridians, (flows of energy thruout the body)and specific organs of the body, the information gives the yoga practitioner a more complete sense of the benefits of that posture. This also allows for a better focus, more mindfulness of the posture and intent. The photos and essays are clear and easy to view. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Acu-Yoga
I'd agree that Gach writes a very straight forward and simple book. If you are a beginner to the acupressure/kinesiology world, you will easily understand the basics [with the aid of this book]. The book gives many useful points, but for general problems most of the time. His knowledge in some promblematic areas goes into more depth than others. So, if you are looking for help with a specific problem, little information might be given or non at all. For example, the book gives great explanations and cures for colds, indegestion, depression and headache, however, it explains very little about allergies and sinuses. Gach backs his explanations with a strong facts and basic common sense.Read more
