5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference for any athlete!
As a graduate student in the field and a competetive division 1 NCAA volleyball player, I found this book to be a great reference for improving my speed, agility and quickness. The pictures, explanations and DVD made it easy to incorperate proper form into each drill.
5-0 out of 5 stars Something for everyone
This is a pretty good book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great help for improving base performance
We purchased the book a few weeks ago and since using the program my daughter is a new person. After learning the basic skills in each of the three categories: speed, agility and quickness, she has increased both her performance and attitude. She is working on her volleyball skills and is improving her reflexes. She really enjoys the drills. She has been practicing some of the rolls and moves even when she is not working out.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book -- for certain couples
Potential readers should start by considering what this book *isn't*. It's not an "erotic" book, intended to titillate. It's not a "how-to-make-your-hot-marriage-hotter" book or a "how-to-be-a-better-lover" book. Neither is it intended for couples whose marriages are extremely dysfunctional, erotically or otherwise. It also might not be helpful for people who don't have a regular sexual partner. With some modifications, it might be helpful for gay and lesbian couples.
1-0 out of 5 stars not a good book
I only bought this book because it was a dollar or two.If I had seen it in a bookstore instead of online I wouldn't even have spent a dollar or two.Not a very modern sex book.Wouldn't recommend it at any price.

1-0 out of 5 stars "For Each Other"-Should be "For Women Only"
VERY disappointed in this.Thought it was a way that both partners could share, but it's written by a woman FOR women on how they can work through the WOMAN's perspective.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teaches Lifelong Health and Openmindedness about Trying New Foods
This book educates your child about the health level and quantity-intake of different foods, using the traffic light gradations of red, yellow, and green.Even today, after reading this book to my 4 1/2 old daughter since she was 2 1/2, she will pipe up and say, "Hey, this is a green light food, Mom!"We also use some of the recipes listed towards the end of the book, especially our own version of a balanced fruit smoothie.
5-0 out of 5 stars As straightforward as it says: Eat Healthy Feel Great
-Puts the revised 2005 Food Pyramid designers to shame withits straightforward, clear approach (versus the revised pyramid 'stripes' that are supposed to indicate how much of each fod group to eat but who can figure it out at a glance?)
5-0 out of 5 stars Building Good Nutritional Habits
What a wonderful resource for parents who are trying to "do the right thing" -- to teach their children healthy eating habits in the midst of a society that promotes the fast, processed, and packaged. Dr. Sears categorizes food into green light/yellow light/red light groups, and it's a concept my children (ages 2, 4) readily understand. The text is simple and clear, and the message is presented in a fun way. This book would be a big help to any parents interested in changing their families' eating habits for the better. There are parts in the book that are just for parents: they explain nutrition, as well as make suggestions on how to incorporate more "green light" foods in the family's meals. My children enjoy this book. They ask for it by name -- we've read it dozens of times. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for back pain sufferers.Simple and effective!
This is a wonderful well illustrated book with easy to perform exercises that are effective for back pain. The descriptions are easy to follow and there is not an overwhelming amount of detail.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great entry-level text for cranky backs
I had purchased Ungaro's Body in Motion and Siler's Pilates Body to begin doing pilates, as they were generally the most respected texts. But my back couldn't handle the most basic level of some of the introductory exercises. This book, however, along with King and Green's Back Strengthening Workout, has given me a sequence of exercises and modifications that (I can already feel after two weeks of use) will get me where I want to be. The introduction to this book is a little too technical on anatomical detail, and the Ungaro and Siler books are superior in terms of illustration and textual guidance at the advanced levels, but without this I'd be quitting and/or hurting before I ever got going with Pilates.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pilates Basics
If you ever taken a mat class you will know these exercises front and back, if you haven't then this very basic book will show you how to do the moves without hurting yourself for the most part. The straight leg positions are not the most comfortable position to be in when your low back hurts you. I like the floor movements on your back. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Looking Good Certainly Does Make You Feel Good!
I purchased Facebuilder on a whim.Actually, I was turning 50 and started to see an older face staring me back in the mirror.Boy was I was looking tired! So I got the book and the DVD to go along with it.I practiced the exercises for 3 weeks and I gotta tell ya - I am a new man today! My face looks more energized, my eyes are wide open and my jaw looks toned an strong.Thank you Carole -- and you are such a hottie!

3-0 out of 5 stars A lot of irrelevant information
Only about 30% of the book contains information about the exercises and related questions. The rest of time the author keeps on telling how wonderful the Facebuilder program is.
5-0 out of 5 stars Only 7 minutes a day!!!
I own a aesthetic and plastic surgery center in Scottsdale, Arizona.Several of my patients are men, I encourage a great deal of these patients to do "Facebuilder", in just 7 minutes a day these patients are able to dramatically tone their face.

The same brain chemicals that are altered by antidepressant drugs arealso affected by the foods we eat. According to addiction expert DesMaisons, many people, including those who are depressed, are "sugar sensitive."Eating sweets gives them a temporary emotional boost, which leads to a cravingfor still more sweets. 4-0 out of 5 stars A step towards an increased understanding of serotonin.
"Potatoes not Prozac" is the most popular of the serotonin literature that has been produced over the last several years. I have read two other books "Secrets of Serotonin" by Carol Hart and "The Serotonin Solution" by Judith J. Wurtman. They all agree that the best way to boost serotonin levels is to eat an nearly all carbohydrate meal or large snack at least three hours after consuming the last protein food. Proteins contain the amino acid tryptophan which is needed to make serotonin. However, the tryptophan molecules are large and have difficulty crossing the blood brain barrier when other amino acids are present. The eating of carbohydrates boosts the levels of insulin in our blood. Insulin moves these other amino acids into the muscle cells allowing the tryptophan to more abundantly enter into the brain.
5-0 out of 5 stars Deanna
This book has changed my life in only one month.I wake with balanced even mood.I have lost weight. The sugar cravings have disappeared. It is work to eat in balanced meals, but worth the effort. I am a vegetarian and it was hard to eat that much protein. I now can see how commercially processed food is overstimulating our taste buds, which then deadens them until they only want sugar and salt. Now I can enjoy the taste of quinoa, beets, and cabbage. These foods were unappealing and tasteless only a month ago.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Find!
This book has changed my life. I was all over the board emotionally, stressed out, depressed and gaining weight. By following the simple guidelines in the book, I have successfully eliminated sugar and caffeine from my diet, bringing about a stability in my blood sugar along with my emotions. And, as a plus, I've lost 5 lbs. in a week! America's parents need to get a copy and put it to use if they love their kids. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not quite my cup of tea.
I like the concept of making weight loss more of a spiritual journey, but Chumley's religious approach is a little more than I can accept.I think if you are really at rock bottom regarding your weight, or if you are quite religious to start with, this book is more likely to be helpful to you.On the plus side, it is simple to understand, concise and well-written.Not a bad read, and has some helpful bits even if you're unable to accept the entire book as a new way of life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Give God the Glory
This is a great book, easy reading, inspiring, and motivational. You can't ask for a better way to lose weight than with God. It's so great, in fact, that a friend and I have started a group at yahoogroups, based on the book...

4-0 out of 5 stars The search
This is a great book as an encyclopedia dealing in the development and history of Chinese Chi Kung, at a practical level I prefer the tapes of Al.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I've been studying Qigong for a while now and credit Dr. Yang for most of my progress. His books and DVDs are packed with accurate and substantial information with good form and detail. However it is obvious that Dr. Yang did not write this by himself. No offense to Dr. Yang but he can barely speak English and while he is able to communicate effectively verbally he is not by any stretch of the imagination fluent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Like Magic - made a believer out of me
This book is amazing. For over a year I have scoffed at exercise as a way to recover from repetitive stress injuries. Then I read this book and followed the exercises. Not only has it improved the way my neck feels (a key factor in my RSI recovery), but I feel like I did when I was a child again when walking and moving around -- greater flexibility, no tension in my trunk, back, etc.(I am age 50). As far as my neck, this book is as valuable--or perhaps moreso--than a trip to the massage therapist. Incredible.
5-0 out of 5 stars gentle, simple movement that WORKS!
When first reading this book, I immediately found myself wondering if this simple, straight-forward approach could really work? ...it sure did!! I live with a neuromuscular disease and this is the only addition I made to my wellness routine and worked with it for a year...with phenomenal results! I have sensation back, I'm walking, I just feel better in-touch with my body, better able to work "with" it. I finally decided to learn more about this and "how" it works so I can be the best functional soma (for myself) and help others to achieve this also. Very fulfilling movement - easy to do and very gentle with, I'll repeat myself, phenomenal results! GET THIS BOOK and contact a Hanna Somatic Educator in your area to get the most bang for your buck! Easy to access online to find someone near you.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for anyone interested in true health and wholeness
One of the most important books ever written! The only problem is that people don't learn from the book that there is a whole network of Hanna Somatic Educators out there who can help you to learn the exercises in classes or do hands on work with those who need it.That is a bit of a disservice to such valuable work. 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book and Program
I have been on many diets my whole life, until I read this book. The book is easy to read, pictures are easy to understand and follow. The nutrional part is easy to follow and understand. I have been following the book for 6 weeks and lost 15 pounds and feel great. I notice the difference between how the body reacts between the white carbs and the whole grains, my headaches stopped and I have energy, especially going to the gym for 20 minutes in my hetic schedule.
4-0 out of 5 stars Once a week versus three times a week
All exercise follows a similar process. Do more than your muscles can handle and your muscles, as a form of self-protection, adapt by getting stronger. This book presents just one of the methods that will work to produce body improvements. It does a good job. It is easy to understand and easy to follow.
3-0 out of 5 stars Did not work for me!
I joined the gym for the first time sevral days ago.First time when I went and set down on the first machine the book said to use (you have to use the machines in order), I just set down and started to do the reps when a guy came over and stood by me staring at me while I exercised.I got upset with him, so I just left without finshing the routine and went to another machine. I have noticed that people tend to want to use the machine that your on no matter what times you go go the gym. I even went to the gym in the morning and very late at night, but it was always so crouded with people. When I finally was able to do the routines the way the book says to do them, after a month, I still have not noticed any significant weight loss-infact, I gained weight!I was told by a personal trainer at the gym that the workouts that a person should be doing will be different depends on the way the person is shaped. For example, a person who is pear shaped should not do so much weight lifting but concentrate more on walking, running and things like that.Person who is already skinny should concentrate more on lifting weights to get their body well toned up.He told about other body shapes and what they should be doing more. After I followed my gym personal trainer's advice, I noticed that I begain to loose weight. Also, my personal trainer did not like what the Power of 10 book said about how you don't need to do any cardio exercises. He said it was very important to do some cardio exercises to keep your heart heathy.Lifting weights really does not do much for your heart-which I did not know this until my personal trainer told me.I am so glade that I only checked this book out at the library and not actually bought it.I will not recommend this book for anybody. ... Editorial Review

Eating the right balance of carbohydrates, protein, and fat creates a hormonal response that leads to burning stored fat for energy, claim nutritionists Joyce and Gene Daoust. This book explains how the 40-30-30 diet works (40 percent high fiber, mostly low-glycemic carbohydrate; 30 percent high-quality protein; 30 percent fat), and how to plan meals following this formula. The "Sample Starter Meal Planners" are organized into three meal categories: Regular, Fat-Flush, and Vegetarian (heavy on cheese, eggs, tofu, and tempeh). There are a few recipes, such as Hearty Chili, Teriyaki Chicken Kabobs, Pizza, and Tortilla Turkey Roll-Up, and many quickly assembled meals, such as Scrambled Eggs, Tuna on Rye Crackers, and Open-Faced Ham Sandwich. A food value guide gives the protein, carbohydrate, and fat grams of many common foods. Though some nutrition experts would argue that this diet is too low in carbohydrates and too high in protein, the Daousts say that "There are no good or bad foods....The key is achieving the proper Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You Can't Pass This Up !!!
I have finally found a weight loss book that is simple to understand and easy to follow. What I found to be extremely helpful was the Meal Planner Conversion Chart. It's all figured out for you. You choose the plan that suits you best. Since I have been on this diet, all the cravings for junk food have gone. I was someone who lived for sugar and now I do not want any of it. I use to crave coffee in the morning as well but realized I didn't want that wired up feeling & acid stomach. I switched over to a caffeine-free coffee substitute made from soyabeans I found on the net at www. S o y c o f f e e.c om. It so easy for someone to tell you to eat less, but if you are craving bad foods, eventually you will fail. In the first five days I was on this diet all the craving ceased and I was already 8 lbs down. If you were like me and cannot wait for your next slice of cake and at the same time really want to change your lifestyle, Try this. I lost 9 pounds in three weeks. Went from a size 18 jeans to a size 16. This is the only way to go!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Zone made easy for regular people!
My doctor started me on this book in June 2004.I am 5'6" and was hitting the scales at my highest ever - 200 lbs.I was having trouble fitting in my size 14/16s and couldn't stand the thought of buying new, bigger clothes.I have always been a woman that "knew" what was good and bad in my refrigerator (I've read just about every article about dieting written), and had trouble fitting in exercise - especially after having two kids. The Zone was outrageously complicated, and so many other diets had huge restrictions on fruit and most veggies, and just didn't seem to make sense from a nutritional standpoint - I couldn't stick with them for long.My cravings, weird rules and the heavy restrictions on almost everything I loved was always a bomb ticking away inside. Then I found 40-30-30.
5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this diet
This diet is one of the only ones that has ever worked for me and I actually ENJOYED doing it!I have tried all of the diets out there.I have bought many of the books and tried most of them. But the 40 30 30 system is the most realistic and healthy system to use. The most difficult thing I had to do was to create menus at first. It was hard at first to come up with exactly the right combinations of food to give me the right grams of each nutrient for each meal. The book provides some sample menus which are great but I wanted to incorporate foods I really loved. What I did was create note cards with meals I enjoyed with the proper balance and once that was done all I had to do was pull out my card and make my breakfast, lunch or dinner. This diet is great and I think anyone who is battling the bulge should give it a try. It even gives you a low carb option if that is your preference. 4-0 out of 5 stars Masters are masters
This book is the authority of Tai Chi Quan.Thorough and explicit, it is the bible of practising Tai Chi Quan. Serious stuff! I wish it could be more lively and fun to read through.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on tai chi
This book presents the 24 and 48 posture tai chi form. The 24 move form is good for busy people, but the 48 move form is even better because it combines movements from the 3 most popular styles of tai chi, Yang,Wu, and Chen, so the student gets some background in each. At 150 pages long in large paperback format, this book packs a lot of info between the covers. For example, I learned that in addition to the Wu style, there is also a W'u style, which I didn't know, although I've studied both Yang and Wu style tai chi.
5-0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile
The simplified, widely practiced 24-posture form was devised by the Chinese government in the 1950's due to a shortage of doctors.Founded primarily on the Yang style, it takes 5-10 minutes to practice, less time than for the 37- and 108-postureforms.

4-0 out of 5 stars Reversing Diabetes: Reduce or Even Eliminate Your Dependence on Insulin or Oral Drugs
Very informational and worth reading by anyone with diabetes.Second only to Dr. James Chappell's "A Promise Made, A Promise Kept".

5-0 out of 5 stars Hi praise for this book
I was diagnosed with Diabetes just a few months ago.I told the Dr.I will not take his pills, thank you!I Purchased this book How to Reverse Diabetes and I am on my way.I test my suger, per my Dr., twice a day and it has dramatically dropped within the first month. Now all my testings are in the normal range established by the lab.
4-0 out of 5 stars Fact or fiction
As a diabetic I found the information interesting. The author was patting himself on his back abit to often. I had a hard time understanding his examples. It was like useing the word your defining as an example. Over all the book contained pertenant information. The book also offered good advice and warnings about the drugs and the food we eat. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars All inclusive... book and DVD
I'm glad I bought this book and DVD workout.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great program!
I've been doing Pilates on the Ball by Colleen Craig for a year now. The book alone is not enough; the DVD is essential. I keep one eye on the TV, both ears on the gentle background music and Ms. Craig's voice, and my whole body relaxed, as Ms. Craig leads me through my 45 minute workout, both verbally and visually. I'm in my mid-60's, and this program is helping my posture stay young and my body strong. I've recommended it to several colleagues, and I'd recommend it to anyone. Ms. Craig speaks the instructions on the DVD, so you can follow the exercises even if you can't really focus on the TV screen as you do them. She speaks to bodies which have sore backs or sore knees, and advises people how to be careful so they don't get injured. I just love this program!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a good book but don't pay a fortune for it
Brand new hardcover copies are available for 24.95 or less so where do these sellers come up with such high prices for used ones?

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting and useful
Dr. Chang has written and extremely interesting book.Read with an open mind because some exercises are beyond my scope.Other exercises and methods are extremely useful.Understand the 9 stages of a womens orgasm is extremely enlightening. It is a lot easier to get to score a goal when you know where the goal posts are.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS ONE'S FOR THE GIRLS!
Had it on my book shelf for a long time. Had a baby, nursed it... boobs gone. Already went to see a plastic surgeon. Then I remembered the book. Have been doing the breast massage for three weeks now and let me tell you: IT WORKS! No breast surgery comin' my way any time soon! Go ahead - give it a try! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Where's his proof?
Not once in his book does he tell ONE success story. He writes about several couples who were in the TRYING stages, but didn't share whether they ended up having a boy or a girl.I'm not sure how much stock I would put into this method... but I've not used it personally, so I guess I don't have a personal testimonial one way or the other.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too Much to Read and Too Long!
This book was too much to read and too long! For pete sake, we are trying to have a baby, not build a computer. I want a baby girl bad but after several tries of this book that didn't work, I'm going to find an easier way. Amazon, send my money back!5-0 out of 5 stars Worked like a charm!
I disagree with the other reviewers. I used this book and followed all of the instructions (no small task!) and had a girl. Maybe it was just luck, but I recommend the book to everyone. The problem is that planning a girl takes a lot of effort - charting, temperature-taking, etc. - but I found the book clear and very easy to use. ... Read more

I was very pleased with this book! It made counting daily carbs and sticking to the Atkins' diet plan a lot easier. It also showed you how to eat real food, not just diet food, as well as restaurant and fast food. I would highly recommend this book to anyone counting carbs!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly motivating!
This was an interesting and informative read. I quite enjoyed it. I never was the type to pick up a fitness book but i am glad I did. This book explains diet, it motivates and allows anyone to realize their goals for their bodies (ie. health, self-concept, and self-confidence, etc.). I would recommend it to anyone as I could not put it down at night and have carried it everywhere for the last two weeks.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful resource
I am starting a running program after a 15 year break, and I have read many books on the safest way to start (old bones you know).I found this book reassuring that I can start running again (in my 30's) and run injury free well into my life.I don't run fast, but I do it at least 4 times a week. The walk/run program is a great place to start and the author does include info on race training.I would definitely reccommend this to anyone interested in beginning a running program.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and motivating book!
After reading a variety of books on running, I like Kowalchik's work best as my guide and reference. She covers a wide variety of topics of interest to beginners and established runners (see the table of contents) and provides thorough explanations. She also includes a strength training program and a series of stretches similar to that used by my college cross country coach, and, training programs to attain particular goals and/or races. The book's tone is motivating and empowering.I highly recommend it. ...
