3-0 out of 5 stars Doctor's Jokes Don't Work
Yes, I understand that Doctors believe the human body is SO complex that they feel they have to add little elves, sex jokes, and personal, inside humor to make the book readable; However, you can do basic education and keep people reading by not mystifying.I personally took offense at some of the body labels and the condescending way this book approaches the body. I've read several books similar to this, all in an effort to keep my 65 year old body young, and to protect my children from disease.I found Rayna Gangi's Book, and Andrew Weil's books to be much more respectful, and hence, more informative and readable. These guys are capitalizing on the YOU premise, and obviously laughing and joking all the way to the bank.

5-0 out of 5 stars I wish I could personally thank the authors
I also bought the RealAge makeover book.I highly recommend that if you enjoyed this book.It has even more details, IMO.I am following the workout plan in that book and have been for the last 48 days.I feel fantastic.I also got my multivitamins based on their recommendations.
4-0 out of 5 stars Yes - Basic - But Thats What The General Population Still Needs
As a Fitness Pro and Lifestyle Consultant - it is clear the general population still lacks knowledge of the basics. While a good number of reviews state this book is not a good one because it only covers the basics - I disagree.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great information...
This book has great information about all types of minerals and vitamins.I had a hard time putting the book down.I learned so much more about the minerals and vitamins and what doses you should be using. Now I know how much my body needs of certain vitamins.

3-0 out of 5 stars Careful - this book isn't as neutral as the author claims it to be
If you read this book you will be given lots of evidence and independent studies on the various benefits of vitamins and minerals. But while this book claims to be neutral and balanced on the good and bad of each vitamin, the author does leave out a variety of studies that have cast doubt on the benefits of "mega-doses" of various vitamins and minerals.

Looking for a great book with gobs of information? Look no further! This book explains what each supplement is used for and the doses to take for specific diseases or just for optimal health. Perhaps the best thing about this book is that it lists information about adverse results if too much of a supplement is taken. I refer to this book time and time again. ... Read more

Bill Phillips had been publishing bodybuilding magazines and marketing nutritional supplements for years when he had a weird revelation at a trade show: many of the most loyal and enthusiastic readers he had were totally out of shape. From that uncomfortable realization came his popular Physique Transformation Contest (top prize that first year: Phillips's own Lamborghini), now world famous, and this book.Read more

I've been using BFL on and off for the past 3-years.If you stick with it it really works.Just tailor it to suit you.If your a woman you might want to substitute some of the excercises for those that are geared towards women.Awesome book for just getting started and workout junkies.

5-0 out of 5 stars This "diet" works. Period.
I have read many of the reviews for this book and I am dismayed at those people who have given it less than four stars. I seriously doubt they have actually followed through with the program. Pick up a copy of Men's Health magazine. They are preaching the same thing: high-protein, moderate carbohydrate meals, six times a day. EVERY issue gives specific recipes supporting this eating lifestyle. Heck, I picked up a Fortune magazine a few weeks ago, and they said the same thing: six small meals a day. Bill Phillips just figured it out before everyone else did.

4-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Workout Program
This is a comprehensive program that includes both nutrition and exercise. Although there is nothing new in the nutritional part of the book (unless all you've ever read were fad diet plans), it's nice to have it included with the workout concepts. The program is meant to develop balanced fitness - strength, muscle mass, flexibility, power, and endurance - without shortchanging any component. There is an emphasis on recovery and good nutrition

1-0 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me!
I followed this plan RELIGIOUSLY for over 8 weeks and I gained 7 pounds, mostly around my belly and face!I bought everything on the shopping list, some items were never even used in the recipies! This book contradicts itself several times about 'eating before working out, or eating after working out', '3 alcoholic drinks per week, or 2 per day', etc, etc. The other thing I found frustrating was the fact that most of the recipes if followed directly (which I thought was the idea!) are for 4 servings, so I found myself eating the same thing a lot, or a ton of leftovers and wasted food.
5-0 out of 5 stars Abs-olute fitness.
I live in Boulder, Colorado, the center of the fitness universe, where body fat is considered a physical disability.I hike, run, cycle, spin, do yoga, and work out daily.Six months ago, I started the "Abs Diet" with the objective of losing weight and trimming my stomach.I also adding moderate weightlifting to my workout routine.Although it really hasn't seemed that I'm "dieting," has it worked?
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read, great info
This book has inspired my husband and I to tweak our diets just a little, yet we've had remarkable consequences. We are not following the "diet" per se, but we are using the nutritional advice suggested in the book. We've both lost weight, although he keeps losing (luck of male genes). The book is easy to read and humorous, too.Great examples and even the exercises are doable.Everyone should read the book - it will get you eating to live.Don't worry about the "diet" in the title. But even if you do follow the diet suggested, it's quite reasonable, allowing for one meal of anything you want. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent strength training reference manual
I work out regularly, and when doing strength training, I frequently have questions about which muscles I am working, whether I am performing the moves with correct form, etc.I decided to read this book after reading the author's companion work, Women's Strength Training Anatomy, which focuses on lower body only, whereas this volume offers a full-body review.
5-0 out of 5 stars Strength Training Anatomy
Excellent strength training manual. I actually own the original version, but just had to buy the revised one as well. Do not regret the decision. This a clear, concise, well-laid out guide to weight training. I've been lifting for 9 years so I'm pretty advanced. Since I need to change my routines every 4-6 weeks, I always look to this handy book to put together new ones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Should be Mandatory Reading
I feel this book should be on the "mandatory reading" list for all women - especially young women. Our society and most of our mothers have wholly failed at teaching us about this sacred subject! Whether you are trying to get pregnant, trying to prevent pregnancy, or neither of the above, this is a must read.I would add, that there is a lot of information in this book that men should know too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read this and got pregnant the first month!
I had no trouble conceiving my first child when I was 35 years old. When we tried for baby #2, however, I was 39 years old and after 6 months of fruitless efforts we were beginning to get frustrated. A friend recommended this book to me. I got the book and began charting my cycle using the methods in the book. BINGO! I got pregnant the very first month I charted. What I learned in the process, was that I was ovulating a full week later than normal, so while my husband and I were diligently trying to conceive in the early part of my cycle, up through the time I thought I would be ovulating, we were stopping our determined efforts a little too early. The month I started charting, we just kept on going (much to my husband's delight: )until the thermometer said we could stop. A couple of weeks later I discovered I was pregnant and now our daughter has a little brother!: )
5-0 out of 5 stars The Bible of Fertility
I bought this book with a bit of hesitancy due to the fact as a medical professional, I thought that I knew all there was to the female body. What I learned in this book challenged everything I thought I knew. When I have a daughter, I will definitely be holding onto this gem to pass along to her...

5-0 out of 5 stars Least expensive tool to relieve pain!
I am a licensed Massage therapist in Hawaii.I stumbled upon Elaine's book and started using it for my neck & back pain.I was pleasantly surprised at how deep my muscles and spine could be worked while I did two simple things Breath and Relax.Although breathing and relaxing is simple it becomes more difficult the longer the balls are in one position and works deeper into the muscles. At that point I choose either to move positions or focus on relaxing further and deeper breathing to let the ball(s) work deeper.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best gift for chronic pain
This little kit, is a really wonderful and inexpensive way to change your life. Like most office workers, sitting for 8 hours a day, gives a lot of lower back pain and piraformis syndrome. These balls are great to relieve the pain. The only warning I have is to watch how long you stay on the balls. In some areas of the book, she recommends staying on as long as you want. This can do damage if your body isn't ready for it.I made the mistake and did too much of a good thing.Release the muscles and relax into the balls, but remove them and relax some more. This is the perfect workout if you hold your tension, stress and emotions in your muscularture. If you do, and try the workout, you will be free, relaxed, and happy!
5-0 out of 5 stars Pain free finally- I wish I had got this years ago! WONDERFUL !
I have been in very good shape most of my adult life.

Editorial Review

If you've ever wondered why the latest fad diet doesn't work for you... well, there are lots of reasons, mostly the fact that it's a fad diet. But it could also be that you're the wrong blood type for the kinds of foods the diet recommends. Peter D'Adamo makes a persuasive argument that your blood type is an evolutionary marker that tells you which foods you'll process best, and which will be useless calories. He covers the entire range for each of the four blood types, from entrées to condiments and seasonings, and also makes type-specific exercise and lifestyle recommendations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars How to Treat Your Illness or Disease with Relevant Herbs
Dr. Peter D'Adamo has written a very interesting adjunct to his superb book, Live Right 4 Your Type. If you have already read that earlier book, you will find this book adds to your knowledge by letting you know about the latest research about the statistical correlations of various diseases and illnesses to those with various blood types. I wrote down the illnesses that I have more frequently than other people I know, and the diseases I have experienced before reading this book. I checked my experience against what the book reports, and found a high correlation (I have had two additional problems not typical of my Type O blood, and have not experienced three problems often associated with Type O people). I did the same for my wife, who has a different blood type, and found that her pattern reasonably closely matched what is described in the book as well. Then, the book has an excellent discussion of why people with each blood type can be affected differently by each illness or disease. You are also given extensive suggestions for herbal therapies that match your herb type. I have not had experiences with the herbs that were suggested for me, so I cannot comment on how relevant they are. If you already use herbs to improve conditions, you will probably adore this book. If you don't use many herbs, you will probably appreciate understanding more about the potential strengths and weaknesses of your blood chemistry. The book is quite thorough in providing articles you can read for more details, and where to access these articles on-line. If you have not read Live Right 4 Your Type, you will find that this book covers almost the same background material but at a much higher level of abstraction. There is a fairly complete discussion of how blood types seem to have developed and what their chemical implications are. In other ways, the book is quite complete in similarity to the earlier ones. For example, you get the food indications for each blood type, essentially like the information in both Eat Right 4 Your Type and Live Right 4 Your Type. Many people are skeptical about Dr. D'Adamo's work. I found him careful about what he had to say. For example, he notes that the risk charts in the book describe how blood type "in conjunction with other factors . . . may be [associated with] an increased risk for developing a certain disease." As to the diseases and illnesses, I was impressed to see how much different cancers were broken down by the part of the body affected while different infections were also segmented. I always find it helpful to keep the research-based associations to blood type in mind when I read other books about nutrition, health, and diseases. Perhaps someday other health authors will add this perspective to their work, as well. Until then, I am very grateful to Dr. D'Adamo for helping me understand how to make the most out of being a Type O person! How can you turn your strengths and weaknesses into resources for improving the quality of your life . . . and those you care about? Keep your mind and your body full of the most helpful resources you can add!

This book shows you how to eat like a normal person and lose weight -- without dieting! The basic idea is that refined, high-carb foods cause weight gain, especially in the stomach. 5-0 out of 5 stars The best no-nonsense yoga textbook
There are innumerable books on yoga to be found; some emphasising the practical aspects with postures (asana), complete with colour photos - and some impossibly esoteric, meant for the select few with mystical leanings. This book combines a comprehensive overview of asana; while at the same time giving clear explanations of the deeper aspects of yoga, including breathing (pranayama), body attitudes (mudra), energy locks (bandha), energy centres (cakra), and yogic cleansing (hatha yoga).
5-0 out of 5 stars clear, helpful, and complete
The illustrations are clear for each pose. The explanations of the asanas and other practices are very helpful, and the over all presentation of the Bihar yoga discipline seems complete.Recommend.

In the good old days of typewriters, carbon papers, and stencil sheets, literary authorship served society at highest ethical, scientific, and artistic standards. In contrast, today's word processors and graphic software attracted to the field of book publishing plenty of con artists and commercial profiteers. This book on stretching by Anderson demonstrates the utmost dedication of its author to public welfare. Without sophisticated cameras or elegant graphing capabilities, the author was able to present all aspects of motion of human stretching by relying on hand-drawn sketches.
5-0 out of 5 stars Essential to workout injury free
It you enjoy running, walking of jogging you must stretch. If you like weightlifting you must stretch. If you play any kind of sport,.. again you must stretch. And guess what if you are not currently engaged in any physical activity, still will benefit a lot from stretching.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good job
The authors do a very good job of explaining how your body, and more importantly, your muscles work, all with their "Men's Health" flare. The beginning of the book goes over a foundation of your muscles and the different types, which really set the tone for the rest of the book. Later in the book, they do go into specific detail on exercises and do's & dont's for beginners, intermediates, and advanced situations, so all of their bases are covered. They have seperate chapters for all muscles groups and great pictures to help visualize.
5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book
1-0 out of 5 stars Are you kidding?
I purchased this book based upon the 50+ positive reviews and must say, I am disppointed. I will get right down to it. When referencing select muscle groups like shoulders, this book lists EVERY exercise that effects the muscle group and not the exercises that have a direct impact. For example, for shoulder exercises it lists Bench Press. The primary muscle group for Bench Press is the CHEST with the Shoulders being indirectly affected. The Bench Press should not even be in this category. This happens over and over whne discussing various muscle groups and it can lead a beginning weight lifter to have a strong misunderstaing of strength training.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone wants to look & feel younger
Beg, buy, or borrow this book & get started on the 4 phases over 120 days to take control of your destiny of aging: walking, strengthening foundation & non foundation muscles, then stamina. Dr. Roizen's books have been best sellers & this latest release should join the list.He explains it in a way that makes it very simple for everyone to incorporate the steps into their daily lives. It is based on walking, as he says, not everyone rows, swims, or bikes their way to work or up steps, etc., but everyone walks.Lots of charts, pictures, questions & answers pertaining to aging, etc.Even if you don't exercise, or like to exercise, read this book, begin the program, and see if you don't see results over time. Time can be rolled back, & you will have more energy. And who doesn't wish that?

The book is perfect if you'd like to track your gains and progress.Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best training log ever!
This training log is the absolute best I have ever purchased. In the past I have used Weider's Log, M&F Hers Log, and The Ultimate Workout Log.The Ultimate Workout Log was poorly bound with comb-binding and didn't hold up well. That is what led me to try Bodyminder's.It is bound well with nylon spiral binding.Nice thick faux-leather cover, a transparent pocket inside the back to store misc. papers (I tuck my pencil in there). Each day is a two-page spread with a myriad of choices. There is a great deal of room for recording each weight training exercise -14 rows and columns to record 4 sets, as well as columns to mark which muscle group and difficulty. There are a couple of spots for notes, reminders, supplements. All in all, it is the most thorough log I have ever owned.I love it!
