5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
It helped me a lot to understand the essentials of training my young kid, and designing an effective training strategy for his age.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Source for Youth Development and Training
It's hard to write a review without it sounding like an advertisement...This book dispels many myths of youth training like the need for early sports specific exercises. It covers exercises for all phases of youth development from ages 5 to 20.His advice, backed by world class achievement, can help you resist the pressure to put children through adult style training exercises and at the same time properly train children for future world class competition.I have compared his recommendations against many sources and have become convinced that they are correct. This book is a must have for Directors of Youth Coaching and Physical Development.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good information
This book is full of good "common sense" information.I read the book from the veiwpoint of a parent, most of the drills and training exercises would be of more use for a coach, but the book was stillinteresting. The author gives a variety of ways to train a child to becomea better athlete without burning them out at a young age.The book is verythorough in explaining the exercises, eg., which muscle is being stretchedor if your working on strength or stamina, making it helpful for a rookie. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS BOOK WAS GREAT! IT HAD A LOT OF INFORMATION THAT I DIDNT KNOW ABOUT DIETING AND FITNESS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Incouraging, well written, amazing ,helpful book
When I read this book I thought it was like any other girl help book but this one was different. I used to be shy but now I am strong and have confidence in myself. I used to be a tad overweight but now I am at mycomfortable weight w/ a lifetime of healthy eating ahead of me. I alsolearned the appropriate way to exercise w/o strain. It was a very good bookand I think I've read it over about 12 times now.I recommended it to all myfriends and they said it was the best book they have read.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the best book
This was not one of the best Charmed books at all. For starters it bored me so much it took me a couple months to pick the book back up after reading half way through. The first 3rd of the book pretty much nothing but tagging along places happens...
4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Improvement!
Actually this book would only have gotten 3 stars if not for the fact Jeff wrote another book 'Mirror Image', and this one exceeded the previous by a very wide margin. The demon is frightening enough and the plot is thick enough. Jeff learnt to plant little deaths throughout the story and hence increased the intrigue. A problem is that Piper's powers were not used much here, and hence it lacks the punch that it could have if all powers were utilised here. The exercise-based storyline is also a bit, weird. I feel that it was tacky. An amendment could be that Meg Winship was a talk show host (like Opran Winfrey) and her show was a conduit of some sort. The viewers get hooked and they finally chant the spell to open the portal, rather than DANCE it open. Still, big improvement.

3-0 out of 5 stars Exercise, Exorcisms, and Extraterrestrials
San Francisco has become host to a rash of UFO sightings. The Charmed ones might be needed to help an abductee but two of them can't take the problem seriously.Abductees seem to come back unharmed and with a new attitude towards exercising (they just can't stop).

5-0 out of 5 stars This book was the first step to our son's recovery
Two days after my son was diagnosed with autism, I dragged my mom to the library to see if I could find out what in the world this meant to us.One of the first books that we stumbled on was this book by Karyn Seroussi. After reading several excerpts about her son to my husband, we agreed that we saw a lot of parallels in our own son.By the end of the weekend, we decided to take a leap of faith and implement the GFCF diet that Ms. Seroussi described.
1-0 out of 5 stars Huge guilt trip!
I read this book to try and find more help for my son with autism. After learning about the diets I realized they would be nearly impossible for my family to implement. These diets are very expsensive and my son would probably refuse to eat most foods and recipes talked about in the book.Realizing this I felt extremely guilty that I wasn't willing to do everything possible for my son. I have had my son in early intervention, speech therapy and a very demanding and structured program for over 3 years. These therapies have made a world of difference for him but he is still autistic. So, if I am unable to put him on this diet does this mean I have failed him as a mother?I don't think so.We can only do what we are all capable of doing for our children. We shouldn't be made to feel guilty if we don't do everything that everyone else has done.It would be nearly impossible to try every single thing suggested for helping to improve symptoms of, or even "cure", autism.I say give yourself a big pat on the back if you are doing the best you can for your child with ASD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unraveling the Mystery of Autism and PDD: A Mother's Story of Research & Recovery
Excellent book! A must read for any parent (or teacher) of a child with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) or any neurodevelopmental delays, ADHD or allergies. It reads like a suspense novel, with the author/mother as detective, desperately, yet thoroughly trying to find clues to her son's sudden demise. Through her dedication and persevearance, she finds successful treatment for her son, and unravels a series of inexplicable biological mysteries involving foods, allergies, vaccines, viruses and their serious effects on the developing brains of children. It is a wake-up call to what we have previously viewed as "genetic" and "untreatable" and should make the medical community seriously abandon this old paradigm and put effort into establishing a new paradigm, where a causal relationship exists between ASD and its related disorders and biological and environmental triggers. This paradigm shift would dramatically alter the management of children diagnosed with ASD today and in the future. This book shows the power of a determined parent - reminiscient of the story of "Lorenzo's Oil". The moral of the story - don't rely on your child's doctor to tell you about this mode of treatment, or on any nutritional management - they are not prepared to do so. Traditional AMA medicine is geared towards quick diagnosis, treatment with drugs, and possibly some therapies. Often this involves treatment of symptoms, not cause. This book also made me wonder just how many 'troubled' or behaviorally challenged children could benefit from dietary changes, not medication. Mrs. Seroussi has done a great service to autistic and neurodevelopmentally challenged children and their parents. She has put into words an alternative choice for parents and offers hope, something the medical profession as a whole has not only not offered, but at times has suppressed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for a second grader
My son loved this book. I bought it awhile ago, when he was just learning to read. It wasn't the right time. So, it set forgotten on a shelf. A year or two later, when one rainy Sunday afternoon he ran out of his favourite Magic Tree House books, we found this one. And he loved it. It is a little bit more challanging to read, but he sailed right through it!

2-0 out of 5 stars If I Wanted to Read "The Tortoise and the Hare..."
I'd read "The Tortoise and the Hare." Unfortunately, this isn't a good start to the Arthur Good Sports series, which has many good offerings. The idea is that a race is being held to raise money for reading. Fern, however, doesn't really seem interested in all of the crazy training everybody else is doing to get ready for the race. The thing is, readers who've read "The Tortoise and the Hare" can smell the ending a mile away. It's terribly predictable and overall not a very good story. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Kids, sex, life -- they all gotta come together somehow
At www.goaskalice.columbia.edu, there is one of the best sources for advice on sex, relationships, and health for people ages 14 and up. This book is the print version.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent factual information
This book fills a definite need for adolescents. It presents the facts, not fallacy, to all of the questions they have that parents and other caregivers may be too embarrassed to talk about. It is from an extremely reputable source (Columbia University), and is readable and accessible to the average teen. Kudos to the people who put together "The Go Ask Alice Book of Answers".

4-0 out of 5 stars Kids on the Ballby Anne Spalding
This book of exercises for kids ... and adults in fact... on the ball, is exceedingly well presented. The explanations are precise and easily followed. The illustrations are equally as valid.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great resource for home & small group therapy
This is a very complete guide to using swiss balls (also known as therapy balls or gymnastic balls). The exercises are grouped by skill with the goals of the exercise clearly described. The suggested modifications for children with disabilities are also very helpful.Though the book is clearly targeted at school phys ed programs, we found it very easy to use at home with all our children. ... Well, I was forced to take the class I used this book for so I really don't think I am in a good position to give a reliable review about the book. I read the book because I had too. Although I can say, that I was able to take and adapt a few pointers here and there and according to a few of the guys that took the class with me, and those that are in the 'pedagogy' field this book is really helpful and really good. I hope that helps. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Outdated, old fashioned, and stereotypical
this book was dull, silly, and slightly offending. every single picture in this book was of blonde, gorgeous cheerleaders chatting up handsome white guys in track jackets. it seemed like the author had only concerns for white and beautiful people. whats more, the advice was not helpful and outdated.

5-0 out of 5 stars so good
i like this book because although upon seeing it many may dismiss it as a "makeup manual" it's not.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unhelpful and Outdated
I'm glad that I got this book out from the library instead of buying it. It provides extremely conventional advice about self-esteem and makeup, and the clothes the author suggests for teens seem like they're straight from the 80's. I really don't know anyone who wears scarves, overalls, or blouses to school. The language and general writing style of the author also seems outdated. I actually checked the publishing date to see if this was a 90's book; it's a 2000 book. Ms. Youngs even uses the 80's spring/summer/autumn/winter system of choosing clothing and makeup colors. It's also annoying that the book encourages confidence in one's looks and "beauty diversity", yet has photos mostly of stereotypical blonde-haired-blue-eyed all-american-girls.
